The rugged sides of Spain and Portugal - crossed and discovered by train, beyond the vacation clichés. Where they border on the unbridled, cold Atlantic, both countries show a completely different side of their own.
Rugged cliffs, surfing paradises, steep vineyards, and villages with centuries-old traditions: the train takes you from Portugal's west coast to the Spanish border in the northeast, a journey of discovery characterized by a variety of colors, landscapes, and climates. The FEVE narrow-gauge railroad takes you through the contrasting landscape of northern Spain. From Bilbao in the Basque Country via Santander in Cantabria to Asturias. The train takes a good eight hours to cover 300 kilometers. A journey at the speed of earlier centuries, through a region that has retained its originality to this day.

Excellent documentary. Now I have to watch Part 2! I just came back from another Portuguese holidays and feel like to return right away! I still would like to move back someday!... We'll see! Canada is, was a great country! Portugal was, is and always will be!

That grapes foot pressing is now rare and something of the past! When I was a kid, in the fifties, we had at home a "lagar" for wine and olive oil in Bragança. But even at that time they were no more used! Of course some people still does it as a tradition but it mostly disappeared for health, practical and technological reasons! To have a more comprehensive perspective learn more and visit that great, small, different and beautiful country!
The world would be better if people continue with bill traditions etc,you live longer like the old man.

To be fair the documentary was interviewing him about the location. Wearing the shirts was likely fitting for the occasion.

It's not "Barsa d'Alva" but "Barca d'Alva". Here the "c" sounds "k"

The only element that ruins in a way this documentary is the useless facial mask! The rest is just wonderful!
Unfortunatelly this was filmed back in 2021, when masks were still mandatory in many places (and, I mean, they had their purpose back then). They're not anymore, as in most of the world.

We Brazilians owe Portugal our language and some aspects of our culture. But make no mistake: the differences between Brazil and Portugal are greater than the Ocean that separates the two countries. The Portuguese are proud to be European. We Brazilians have a very ambiguous relationship with our own uniqueness as a mestizo people who have local indigenous, Portuguese and African roots.
Actually not, Brazilians and Portuguese have much more similarities than you might initially think. We're not that different.
You just think the differences are bigger than the Atlantic because unfortunatelly most Brazilians have very little to no contact with today's Portuguese people.
@@diogorodrigues747 In Brazil there is Samba and Capoeira, two things that Portugal does not have. The Portuguese appreciate Fado and attend churches. In Brazil, the centers of macumba and candomble (cults of African origin that incorporate indigenous traditions) are very common, two things that the Portuguese are unaware of.
@@fabiodeoliveiraribeiro1602 Claramente tens um grande estereótipo sobre Portugal e os portugueses:
- a gastronomia brasileira é uma gastronomia de base portuguesa (inclusive a feijoada é um prato português e com várias versões dentro de Portugal, os brasileiros simplesmente adaptaram o prato à realidade do Brasil). Muitos pratos típicos do Brasil são idênticos aos portugueses;
- o Fado pode ser o ritmo tradicional português mais conhecido fora de Portugal mas está longe de ser o único e tampouco é o mais popular dentro do país. Muitos dos ritmos e músicas brasileiros têm uma enormíssima influência portuguesa. O forró e o corridinho são muito parecidos e o sertanejo e o pimba também, e há muitos mais exemplos disto;
- apesar do pseudo-modernisno que ocorreu nas cidades brasileiras no último século, as influências portuguesas ainda são visíveis. O interior de Portugal e o interior do Brasil (e sobretudo o sul do Brasil) não são tão diferentes assim...
E eu podia continuar com isto em muitos mais pontos. O Brasil teve influências africanas e indígenas? Sem dúvida, mas o Portugal urbano também teve nas últimas décadas uma forte influência africana. Muitas das músicas nas tendências em Portugal nos dias de hoje são músicas com ritmos baseados em Cabo Verde ou Angola, por exemplo.
Quanto à prática do catolicismo, isso pode ter sido o normal há 50 anos mas hoje em dia pouca gente pratica religião (nas gerações mais jovens então a percentagem é muito reduzida). Nos dados apenas aparece a população portuguesa como sendo 84% católica mas isso é porque ainda há uma grande tradição de batizados e comunhões fora das grandes cidades. Por essa razão aparece nos dados estatísticos essas pessoas que foram batizadas em bebés como sendo "católicas", quando na realidade não o são.
@@diogorodrigues747 Você pode falar o que quiser sobre Portugal. Mas você obviamente não conhece o Brasil e ignora as espificidades da língua e da cultura brasileira. Ao valorizar tanto sua "portuguesidade" você nunca conseguirá perceber que nós brasileiros não somos e não queremos ser portugueses nem tampouco construímos um país filhote de Portugal.
A nossa culinária é muito diferente da culinária portuguesa. Cá nós comemos arroz com Pequi, fruta que não existe em Portugal. Vocês não conhecem Coruja (nome popular do pão de farinha de mandioca). Aliás, a mandioca (também chamada de aipim e macacheira) está presente em inúmeros pratos brasileiros. Portugueses fazem Bacalhoada com mandioca? Eu suponho que não. Cá, nas áreas rurais, ainda é possivel comer tatu ensopado com arroz e farinha de mandioca. Essa culinária brasileira você não conhece e nunca vai conhecer. Você já chupou "uva de baiano" tomando cachaça numa praia brasileira semi deserta?
@@fabiodeoliveiraribeiro1602 Ninguém aqui está a dizer que o Brasil é igual a Portugal, é óbvio que há uma identidade própria de cada país e somos nações diferentes. Agora, a realidade é que, se virmos bem, é muito mais o que nos une do que aquilo que nos separa. O Brasil não é um país de génese indígena, é um país de génese maioritariamente europeia e sobretudo de génese portuguesa. Os brasileiros nos dias de hoje maioritariamente são descendentes de europeus e não dos indígenas que viviam antes das conquistas europeias (aliás, no Brasil de hoje em dia os indígenas ainda são maltratados enquanto cidadãos, o que é bem hipócrita tendo em conta aquilo que muitos brasileiros gostam de dizer por aí).
É bem irónico vir alguém com um nome e um aspeto bem português dizer que o Brasil não é "filhote de Portugal". Talvez o Brasil não seja, mas tu és certamente e nem te apercebes disso.
