David Soul was an American singer, actor, and radio personality. He was born on August 28, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, as David Richard Solberg. He was best known for his hit single "I'm a Believer," which was released in 1976 and became a chart-topper worldwide.
Soul began his music career in the early 1960s, performing in local bands and clubs in the Midwest. In 1965, he moved to Los Angeles, where he recorded his first solo album, "The Soul of David Soul." However, it wasn't until the release of his second album, "David Soul," in 1975, that he gained widespread recognition. The album included the hit single "I'm a Believer," which was written by Neil Diamond and featured Soul's soulful vocals and catchy melody. The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and sold over two million copies in the United States alone.
In addition to his successful music career, Soul also acted in numerous television shows and films, including the popular 1970s crime drama "Starsky & Hutch." He played the role of Detective Ken "Hutch" Hutchinson alongside Paul Michael Glaser as Detective Dave Starsky. The show ran from 1975 to 1979 and helped establish Soul as a household name.
Throughout his career, Soul released several other successful albums, including "Playing to an Audience of One" (1977), "Imagination" (1978), and "Best of David Soul" (1980). He also toured extensively and performed at various concerts and festivals around the world.
Sadly, David Soul passed away on January 4, 2024, at the age of 80. His legacy lives on through his music and acting work, which continue to entertain audiences to this day.
