Oh man is that a Thömus Farmair??? When I was in the US Air Force, we weren’t allowed to drive cars while in training for my job so everyone rode bikes to get around base and when further along in training, to hop on a bus with and head into San Antonio. SS MTB’s or BMX bikes were the norm. In fact I don’t remember seeing a geared bike. Many of them were hand-me-downs or purchased ridiculously inexpensively from trainees in previous classes. This was my exact bike. I know it came back with someone from Germany. I was never quite sure of the year but it was the same red frame with black accents and logos that appear to be on your bike underneath the paint job you sanded off. Mine was also converted to SS prior to my having it. I passed it down to a lower classman when I graduated and I’ve never seen another one since. Great job, thanks for posting!!!
Wow i swear i seen this type of bike rolling around when i was younger good job! bringing any type of cool hard tail back to life is cool the frames are just bomb proof and can shred for generations.
Awesome work, bike looks new 🙌🏻 What brand and type of orange paint did you use as it’s really nice and I’m looking to spray paint my bike frame and fork?
The bikes didn't even have major damages. I love what you did with it but it looks like it'd take an evening to fix (without all the work in paint and body filler you've put into it)
I would say that painjob, cranks and rear wheel were major things.I had to repalce whole rear wheel and build a new one and do same for the cranks because they were destroyed. And i lost a lot of time waiting for parts..
@@Nexmtb Okay then maybe im just swapping to many bike parts around... Since middle of last year i started building new bikes from used bikes and mostly new parts ordered online... It has become somewhat of an addiction and rn im building and keeping about 1 bike / month. I usually only spend about 300 Euros per bike and sell what left... Now I've got a ton of nice bikes and don't know where to put them nor do i want to sell any of them... I usually settle for 26" bikes because they're just cheaper to get and parts are also cheaper. Although 26" is a tiny bit too small for me it normally doesn't bother me all that much. (Im a 1.9m ~6'3 tall guy)

hello, I'm restoring a dirt bike and I'm only missing a rear wheel because it's broken and I don't know where to find one for not too expensive(I live in France and finding bicycle parts is complicated)
@@Nexmtb yes I have more chance of finding parts but I am looking for rims in particular and they are very rare, they are the spank spoon or the halo sas
Nice! I’m guessing for $15, that was you painting the parts then? Looks clean! Also, how did you end up stripping the paint? Looks like either sanding or media blasting?
Guy didnt rode it for a while and bike was neglected And on top of that he needed money fast, probably for weed lol So he said $70 and I dropped it to $60
If you read the service manual it says that it needs only 3ml of 15w oil in air chamber just to keep the air assembly work smoothly. So it should have oil in there and if seals are good it shouldn't leak oil in the negative chamber
For bikes like this with vertical dropouts you can use any 26" wheel that has 135x9mm axle. For other dirt bikes that have horizontal dropouts you need 135x10mm hub. Hope that answers your question.
Well.. i had a rear brake for it but it started leaking so i decided to build it without one until i buy a new one. I am happy how it rides without the brake so i might just keep it like this.
@@Nexmtb I rode brakeless bmx, but added one for dirtjumps again. If you ride brakeless i would remove the disk, you dont need. You can save a few grams and have a cleaner look
I bought bike something like yours, but full suspension specialized,it was completely damaged bike, when I restored it fully, beatiful bike, then selling and police camed to me ... so I dont reccomend to buy this bikes like you, it was painted before you so it could be stealed..

Why do you still have installed the brake disc?
My plan was to put a rear brake that i had laying around but it was leaking oil so i left disc on the bike for when i buy a new brake.
the oil that you added to the air chamber of the fork will drain into the negative chamber and the fork will not work correctly
If you read the service manual it says that it needs only 3ml of 15w oil in air chamber just to keep the air assembly work smoothly. So it should have oil in there and if seals are good it shouldn't leak oil in the negative chamber

how to make mtb wheels for dirt jump wheel?
For bikes like this with vertical dropouts you can use any 26" wheel that has 135x9mm axle. For other dirt bikes that have horizontal dropouts you need 135x10mm hub. Hope that answers your question.
