i play madame de la grande bouche at my college production, and because of that, the director told me to sing the soprano solo at 6:34, and the guy who plays lumiere said it was his favorite part of the entire song haha, it's literally so much fun!
I played Lumiere in my school’s production of this and it was so much fun! He’s an amazing character to perform and despite the copious songs, dances and lines I had to learn with no outside experience of theatre it was still amazing and I’m proud of everyone involved. This song was the highlight of my performance- my candles cut into my fingers and before this song began my finger ended up bleeding but the pure adrenaline of this song meant I didn’t notice until I got offstage. I’m gonna miss this performance and the cast with my whole heart, and I’m so glad I got to perform one of my dream roles 💛
Sophomore year I did this production at school (I was in ensemble, got the role of a fork.) but unfortunately, it turned out terrible. We used our school orchestra for the music but they were so late on the cues because the choir teacher who was in charge of them, spent too much time on the actors voice training instead of practicing with the band correctly so the orchestra had about a week to get all the songs memorized for the musical. The choreographers were pretty harsh on us despite doing our best after practicing for so long and gave us near panic attacks when it came time for testing day; had we failed to get the dance routine correct- we would be taken out of the dance line. (They never did.) Almost everyone complained about their parts and we nearly cancelled the musical because of that. The drama teacher chose her favorites anyways for the parts, most of the girls with lead parts turned into such divas and acted like such hotshots with inflated egos. (Especially senior girl who got chosen to play Belle, she was the worst. I'm not kidding, the girl was so rude by the time we got halfway through rehearsals and she acted like she was better than everyone else. Opening night, her boyfriend couldn't make it because he had college night classes to graduate and she ranted about it in rehearsal the whole time. Two months after the musical, I see her locking lips with another guy on his car. Felt sorry for her ex boyfriend, gave her a ruby heart shaped promise ring with the hopes to marry her someday after college and treated her like a princess. Meanwhile, she just stomped on his heart in return. Ugh.) It was just a big mess of a production, I was glad to be in the musical but it could have gone better.
Tsumiki Mikan oml. Last year my theatre class did it (because of mental issues I just did odd job helping) and our teacher got fired within a month of casting. A permanent sub came in (who happened to have a theatre teaching degree, thank god) and managed to pull it all together despite being told by literally everyone that it would never work. And it turned out really good! I’m so sorry that you’re didn’t go well.
My high school is doing it this year and ngl I hope it turns out better than yours did. We have some snobby people that get leads every single year because the director plays favorites and it's extremely annoying.
Can we just take some time to appreciate Babette? She's so underrated and overlooked in the musicals! Like 6:34 those high notes in such rapid frequency I'm shooketh :O
@@heartbrokeinninc.3259 No - I did the musical last summer and that line was Babette's, I believe. Our Babette actress sang those notes and she did fabulous!
One of the things I loved about Gary Beach when I discovered this show was how much he truly loved playing Lumiere and he really was perfect for the role. Heaven is happier with this wonderful being up there. I so wish they had professionally record the full show with him and Terrence Mann, I'd do anything to see them. All the great things happened before I was born :'(

hey!! are you auditioning for lumiere? good for you! i just got finished with this show, and let me tell you, lumiere is one of my favorite roles i have ever played. he's just the best! try not to be too nervous. just have fun and find his moments, cuz he has lots of 'em. if you're doubting yourself, especially if you think they won't cast you because of your gender, don't worry! i was almost completely sure i wouldn't be cast in a role like lumiere since i'm a girl, but after lots of hard work and a little bit of luck, i got the part! break a leg in your auditions kids :)
Actually solid advice, especially the gender role stuff. I’m auditioning in two days and my biggest worry is not getting the part because I’m a girl, so it’s good to know other productions have cast female lumieres before. Thanks man
AAC0813 the napkins have a special dance number in this song. They actually work harder than the leads and have more talent when it comes to choreography.
They did the same with mine! I was Lumiere, and we had to cut because we didn’t have enough time with the choreographer to get everything perfect, so it was axed. I still miss my tango part!
Lumeire I can just imagine the high schooler that was lumeire doing body rolls in the beggining, because we just did this musical in our school and he did do that. Also my brother wich was a nife doing the line kicks 😂😂😂😂
halfthefiber I think Evan got confused cause he thought Ian Mackelin was playing lumeire because of his deep voice. Lumeire had a deeper voice than cogsworth in the original version
Seeing that in the 2017 movie that remakes the cartoon upon which this play is based, they changed the line "Ten years we've been rusting" to "Too long we've been rusting" and got rid of the line that the rose would bloom until the Prince's 21st year to eliminate all ability to pinpoint how old the Prince was when the spell was placed upon him, can future performances of this play have the same edit? If they could fix this mistake when they made the 2017 remake movie, they can fix it in the play's script.
I’m in a production at school and we open tomorrow! I can’t wait it’s going really well so far and we’ve been rehearsing for 6 months now. Wish me luck!
Disney SHOULD release the proshot of the OG cast on streaming. They could have easily professionally filmed the OG cast in 1994 for release like a movie and they didn't :'( it was before I was born and I don't want other casts I want to see Terrence Mann, Beth Fowler, Gary Beach, Tom Bosley, Heath Lamberts. They are and will forever be what made this magic and they deserved recognition. Tolkien was right about Disney they make so much money destroying the European stories they appropriated. Parasites.
6:23 If I wanted to play Lumiére I would show off my inner Lin Manuel: (Course by course) *WHAT?!* (one by one) *WHAT?!* (Til you shout) *WHAT?!* (Enough I’m done) *WHAT?!*
1:57 My favorite verse! If I was included in the original Broadway production, I would take that verse as a solo here, except for when the women sing, "It's a treat for any diner…" and the men sing, "Singing pork, dancing veal…" and I trill on the next line, "How could anyone be gloomy or depreEeEeEeEssed?", and then everyone comes in on "We'll make you shout encore…"
Luke Cammack we're doing it this year, cast list haven't come out, I can give as much French as an entire cast of Les Mis, but I also have about as much experience in dance, so I'm terrified
if they did not play this wonderful song in the movie i was going to walk out of the door. and you know what they played it and i stayed the whole movie. Emma Watson was so good in it and she was really a Beauty and wow, wow, wow, wow, wow lovely and wow again. i love every min.

Kat Ralson don’t be rude to others just to make yourself feel better. You have no right to say chorus members have more talent dancing than main cast.
Awww. I really wanted to be a napkin! That's really awesome tho.
I am Lumiere in my school's production of Beauty and the Beast. Big number for me here. Hope we get a standing o after this.
I played the baker’s wife and an ensemble member in my school’s production all through Irish. It was such a good experience ❤
I actually met the cast in a store and they remembered me! they personally invited us! so cool!
I was Lumiere for my towns summer theatre a few years ago. One of the best roles I ever had
I love the tango part and the dance with the napkins 😌
This was an absolute blast to perform. Playing Lumiere has made a huge impact on me as an actor. Thank you B&B
I just finished my final production of batb. I was Lumiere. This was… amazing.
I love this and Gary Beach is a legend 😭❤️
I saw this a few years ago. Beautiful and give me chills!
I can't wait to hear Ewan McGregor sing this. Do us proud, Obi-Wan!
Me too.
from Star Wars??
MinionFan1024 none other.
Gandalf will be singing.
What are your thoughts? I thought he did pretty well.
Excited to be singing this in my school's production! :)
So excited, I got this part while I do Beauty and the Beast over the summer and I can’t wait to sing this song
Does anyone else always envision Mary Poppins singing Mrs. Potts' part?
+ADaveO Fun trivia: one of the Broadway Belles was the Original Broadway Mary.
For some reason I think of Kat from Twokinds.
@@jamiemoreton4705 Ashley Brown, you meant. Her version of “A Change in Me,” brought me to my On the Record roots.
I play Babette in my musical and THEY FRICKEN CUT THE TANGO PART OUT IF THIS SONG AND IM VERY ANGRY ABOUT IT
Rip
They did the same with mine! I was Lumiere, and we had to cut because we didn’t have enough time with the choreographer to get everything perfect, so it was axed. I still miss my tango part!
If anyone else is using this for practice, the song starts at 0:23
I'm performing as Lumiere for one of the show nights this Saturday and it'll be my first time ever on stage aaaa!
Yay I'm so excited I found out that I'm Lumiere in my school production. I can't wait to sing this song!
oh my god
+Isabel Lopez-Diaz OH MY GOD
+Lexi Costa OH BOY
Brianna Howa
This show is a monster and I love it.👏👏👏👏👏
5:18 to the is end is my most favourite part of the song
I'm an enchanted item in this production!
One of the most fun and toughest dances I am in 😂
Lumeire I can just imagine the high schooler that was lumeire doing body rolls in the beggining, because we just did this musical in our school and he did do that. Also my brother wich was a nife doing the line kicks 😂😂😂😂
I sang this at Carnegie Hall in 1996, part of the National Children’s Choir.
Bruh I was a napkin in my schools musical and I kid you not we had the worst costume 😭😭 they were literally sleeveless nightgowns
At 5:55 I want to stand up dance
" *NO NO NOT THE KICKLINE* "
I can't wait to hear Ian McKellen sing. Sing really good, Gandalf.
What do you mean? Ewan McGregor will play Lumiere, not Ian McKellen. Cogsworth doesn't sing here.
halfthefiber
Dude! I'm talking about in Something There.
halfthefiber I think Evan got confused cause he thought Ian Mackelin was playing lumeire because of his deep voice. Lumeire had a deeper voice than cogsworth in the original version
I mean cogsworth.
My school is doing this production and so far it has gone really well. I'm on running crew.
I’m in a production at school and we open tomorrow! I can’t wait it’s going really well so far and we’ve been rehearsing for 6 months now. Wish me luck!
How was it?
The things I would do to get to play Lumiere. My dream 😍
Parasites.
0:27 0:32 0:37 0:44 0:55 1:04 1:12 1:21 1:29 1:34 3:21 3:28 and 3:37
It is a Beautiful OMG OMG I Lovit this Musical My Favorite 1
I can't watch listen to any of these songs anymore with out seeing the lighting rig and choreography of the show my school put on!
Wasn't expecting it but I just got cast as Lumiere! Excited to act the crap out of this role, haha
I am doing this in my drama class and I got Belle!!!:)
This year we are doing this at school and I am a.... plate!!
Hannah Morrissette me too I am chip!
The Gracie Show I tried out for chip by I got Maurice's understudy

Me too! But guess what? I'm also a............ villager ensemble!
Same here man
6:23 If I wanted to play Lumiére I would show off my inner Lin Manuel:
(Course by course) *WHAT?!*
(one by one) *WHAT?!*
(Til you shout) *WHAT?!*
(Enough I’m done) *WHAT?!*
Playing Cogsworth at my school!
Alex Kellagher saturday was closing night for Beauty and the Beast. I played Cogsworth. Absolutely best part I’ve ever played.
NO NO! NOT THE KICKLINE!
Thumbs up if you're listening to this song up because you're Lumiere in a play!
Luke Cammack ha
Luke Cammack we're doing it this year, cast list haven't come out, I can give as much French as an entire cast of Les Mis, but I also have about as much experience in dance, so I'm terrified
Luke Cammack Belle but yeah
No matter what version i always hear "we ate the police" instead of "we aim to please"
5:45 just a marker for myself
This song is legit: How well can you sing AnD DAnCe!!?¿!¡!
i am going to be a Guest for the movie in 2017 in March.
Looking forward to see Emma Watson as Beauty.
That's Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts. Not Emma Watson.
emma watson plays belle. that's what he was excited to see
is every one excited to Emma Watson to plays Belle.
Just preformed this at an event, so fun to sing!
My school is doing Beauty and the Beast this year and I'm going for Mrs. Potts at auditions in a few months! I'm super excited! :)
if they did not play this wonderful song in the movie i was going to walk out of the door.
and you know what they played it and i stayed the whole movie.
Emma Watson was so good in it and she was really a Beauty and wow, wow, wow, wow, wow lovely and wow again.
i love every min.
This is Broadway not the live action movie
im in the pit orchestra and omfg miss playing this song 😭😭😭😭
Green and Blue loser pit gang!!!!
Im in this number and I'm cheese souffle so excited
I performed as an ensemble, but even as an ensemble, I had SO MUCH FUN playing in this amazing musical, I miss early 2019...
This was my favorite song when I did it. I was a silly girl 🤪 “GASTOOON”
NOT *JACKSON*
5:45-7:01 is what we all came for...
I Love This Version. the Original is great too.
I have to do this song for my Broadway final.
LUMIERE]
Ma chere Mademoiselle, it is with deepest pride
An the greatest pleasure that we welcome you here tonight
And now we invite you to relax, let us pull up a
Chair as the dining room proudly presents-
Your dinner!
Be our guest! Be our guest!
Put our service to the test
Tie your napkin 'round your neck, cherie
And we provide the rest
Soup du jour
Hot hors d'oeuvres
We only live to serve
Try the grey stuff
[CHIP]
Oh, it's delicious
[LUMIERE]
Don't believe me? Ask the dishes
They can sing, they can dance
After all, Miss, this is France
And a dinner here is never second best
Go on, unfold your menu
Take a glance and then you'll
Be our guest
Oui, our guest
Be our guest!
[LUMIERE & ALL]
Beef ragout
Cheese souffle
Pie and pudding "en flambe"
[LUMIERE]
We'll prepare and serve with flair
A culinary cabaret!
You're alone
And you're scared
But the banquet's all prepared
No one's gloomy or complaining
While the flatware's entertaining
We tell jokes! I do tricks
With my fellow candlesticks
[ALL]
And it's all in perfect taste
That you can bet
Come on and lift your glass
You've won your own free pass
To be our guest
[LUMIERE]
If you're stressed
It's fine dining we suggest
[ALL]
Be our guest! Be our guest! Be our guest!
Be our guest! Be our guest! Be our guest!
Get your worries off your chest
Let us say for your entree
We've an array; may we suggest:
Try the bread! Try the soup!
When the croutons loop de loop
It's a treat for any diner
Don't believe me? Ask the china
Singing pork! Dancing veal!
What an entertaining meal!
How could anyone be gloomy and depressed?
We'll make you shout "encore!"
And send us out for more
So, be our guest!
[LUMIERE]
Be our guest!
[ALL]
Be our guest!
[
[MRS. POTTS]
It's a guest! It's a guest!
Sakes alive, well I'll be blessed!
Wine's been poured and thank the Lord
I've had the napkins freshly pressed
With dessert, she'll want tea
And my dear that's fine with me
While the cups do their soft-shoein'
I'll be bubbling, I'll be brewing
I'll get warm, piping hot
Heaven's sakes! Is that a spot?
Clean it up! We want the company impressed
[ALL]
We've got a lot to do!
[MRS. POTTS]
Is it one lump or two?
For you, our guest!
[ALL]
She's our guest!
[MRS. POTTS]
She's our guest!
[ALL]
She's our guest!
Be our guest! Be our guest! Be our guest!
[LUMIERE]
Life is so unnerving
For a servant who's not serving
He's not whole without a soul to wait upon
Ah, those good old days when we were useful...
Suddenly those good old days are gone
Ten years we've been rusting
Needing so much more than dusting
Needing exercise, a chance to use our skills!
Most days we just lay around the castle
Flabby, fat and lazy
You walked in and oops-a-daisy!
[COGSWORTH, spoken]
Lumiere! Think of what the master will do if he finds out about this!
[LUMIERE]
And now, for you continued dining experience:
Napkins! S'il vous plait!
[NAPKINS]
Oh la la!
Un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept, wheee!
[ALL]
Be our guest! Be our guest!
Our command is your request
It's been years since we've had anybody here
And we're obsessed
With your meal, with your ease
Yes, indeed, we aim to please
While the candlelight's still glowing
Let us help you, We'll keep going
Course by course, one by one
'Til you shout, "Enough! I'm done!"
Then we'll sing you off to sleep as you digest
Tonight you'll prop your feet up
But for now, let's eat up
Be our guest!
Be our guest!
Be our guest!
Please, be our guest!
