My first year in business as an LGS - we did $360k, I remember that a 60 day delay on turning product that normally turned in 3 days, had almost sunk the business. Bills would become due and new product launches were popping off. Cash flow delays are brutal when you are just getting into things.

Hey Brian! Been a minute since we last did business!
This video is too real. I started my business right before COVID. I was in graduate school and hated how much my stipend paid. I took a HUGE risk in selling a bunch of stocks and taking on debt to start doing Pokemon on the side. Fast forward into COVID and the hobby was booming, I pivoted to my passion being Weiss Schwarz and I haven’t looked back since.
There was immense risk in what I did and how I did it. Sleepless night wondering when my JP products would clear customs after being stuck for days, trying to move products ASAP before the next deadline and managing livestreams and a whole discord community.
It was far more stressful than getting my PHD, but in the end it was worth it and I haven’t looked what I have now because of it. I think I was incredibly lucky and also found my niche because I was the first channel on twitch to break non-big 3 JP products and Weiss Schwarz at the volume that I was doing.
Now I still do it “part time” but even then it’s a really a full time job.

You share all this because it takes a lot of work and knowledge. These people have no clue how much you work, knowledge and stress it is to run a TCG business. 😅
Gate keeping is only being able to get Pokemon from only 4 different supplies and they get to pick and choose who and how to distribute it all…

These points go beyond just Pokémon card business. Many business owners face these problem there's a immense amount of risk and sacrifice, but that's what separate's people who have made it and who have not. You literally can't get anything in life without sacrifice, I think 99% of people would take the stress of owning a business that catered to something they love to do. If you have a dream go for it!

The way we move money in 2025 feels more like 1925. So wild how expensive/slow/miserable so much of it is. Have had so many issues with Chase, WIse, Paypal, etc holding money, being slow with money all kinds of things. Mostly have it all figured out now, but still have issues from time to time.

Nexus has two triggers. One is not only the amount of sales made to a certain state, the second trigger is the number of transactions made. In our case, we rarely hit the sales Nexus, but very quickly hit the transaction number Nexus. We use Tax Jar and is a very good company. Crazy stuff! Keep up the good work.

Brian.. you’re killing it. I’ve been following for a bit and got directly on making my dream come true. I know that dream is dependent on ME and not the person who inspired me. These haters are tools and just that, HATERS. When you get bigger there’s always an influx of naysayers. Thank you for this video. Hopefully those fools make it more than 3 mins before they start their bullshit in the comments. I, for one, will forever be indebted to you for your inspiration and clear concise, and realistic take on how to do this thing. My family is grateful. Not where I want to be yet, and I’m exhausted, but I’m actually taking action and getting after what I truly want! Thanks Brian! A thousand times over, thanks. Your fanbase loves you!

  • @Petrefied

I've never once thought you have been gatekeeping. All your videos seem to be realistic of starting a card shop business. The fact that you've been successful should be clear that it wasn't "easy". Most people don't get "rich" by taking the easy way out lol. You've also clearly said multiple times that being online only and working from your house is a big help too. I think people are just jealous tbh.

I did see a wix article about "3D Secure (3DS)" could this be what you were referring to? I would like to implement something like this on my store because chargebacks are something I am the most worried about(since I started recently).

The truth is 99% of your videos about "managing a business" have much lower views, likes etc. than simple hype train videos, reels about new sets, clickbaits or hot takes.
