Curry isn’t close to being as skilled as Kyrie. Curry needs picks to get slow bigs on him a lot of times to get his shot off when he faces elite perimeter defenders. Kyrie cooks anybody and everybody. Kyrie has a better mid range, post game, better finisher, and more clutch than curry. What are we even talking about, media hates Kyrie.
There’s no debate he’s the most skilled. He is elite at shooting from all over the court. He has the best handle ever. He has elite foot work. He can turnaround fade over any shoulder. His layup package is top notch with both hands. The closet thing is maybe Kobe in all around skill.
One of the most skilled in the modern era of NBA is fer to say and yes Chris I agree that he will be an Icon highly reggarded by his peers and the one's who really knows basketball..and Chris I would put AI on that list too he was finishing in traffic like crazy had a bag, ball handling and in today's game he would shoot it way better without any contact
What is the criteria for skills? Is leadership a skill? Is reading the defense a skill? Is passing a skill? Is defense a skill? Is engaging teammates in a game a skill? Is rebounding a skill?
Right?? And you didn’t even mention dunking. Isn’t playing ABOVE the rim also a skill? Kyrie is a supreme ball handler, no question, but he only plays one side of the floor, offence. Folk so desperate to crown players from this era, literally prisoners of the moment.
No that’s mental No thats effort and athleticism No that’s iq anybody has the skill to pass the ball iq makes you a great passer The last one can be scoring skills makes more opportunities for teammates so I’ll give you that one No effort size and athleticism Skills are your bag
The reason I believe he's more skilled than curry is because he simply can get a bucket in more ways on the fly than anyone in the entire league. Plus i think he's the best tough shot maker in the entire league. dude just sinks everything with or without a hand in his face at an absurd level.
Skill is relative. I like the argument laid forth by Jason over at Hoops Tonight. Kyrie Irving is someone who can do a lot of things pretty well versus not doing any one thing. You pick one thing of Kyrie‘s and compare it against the all-time great, Kyrie will come in second or lower all of the time. However, he is a great swiss, army, knife, being able to do all of those things at a superb level. Jason also talked very well about the difference between the flash of a scale versus core foundational skills skills that contribute to team success or winning or overall basketball intelligence, and not just an individual highlight wheel type of a skill. When it comes to the NBA fans who love streetball /AND-1 style of hooping, Kyrie is their hero all day long every day each day. When it comes to moving without the ball, you might choose Steph Curry. If you’re an older fellow, who can’t stand that every time curry or Irving, or most current NBA players move that they are traveling, like they’re running a football game, you’ll fall in love with Bob Cousy, and call him the most skilled Just opinions
I agree. You hit it on the head on personal taste. So many people confuse players from other era's as being unskilled. Like Cousy couldn't dribble but fail to realise palming would have been called everytime if his hand wasnt on top of the ball. But its easier to just see a highlight and conclude they had no skill. Only basketball fans feel the need to insult other era's. The 90's will hate on today's, and today's will hate on all the ones before. But I guess thats just how it is.
Been a Kobe fan my whole life but I agree with you. You just can't beat that. Just watching the highlights it's unbelievable. Talk about being on fire 🔥
We are talking about a player who's never won MVP, never won a scoring title and never ranked with the best 3 points shooting percent and never ranked 1st in assist. He doesn't defend either

Kyrie might be the most skilled because hes had many record setting performances and can have all time great efficiency in scoring games and he does things that we've never seen before. Some of his finishes are just acrobatic wizadry. The way he does certain moves is unlike any player in history. It's like he's the most fluid and creative player we've seen. Some of his best scoring performances are record setting performances. The thing though is that Kyrie doesn't play great all the time and I've seen him have bad series and get shut down and limited by certain teams before. So it's kind of hard to say. He's got the most potential for greatness but part of greatness is how consistent you put it out. In kyries defense, he would average 30ppg if he got to the line more. He's always been one of the league leaders in ppg without free throws. The refs rarely give him the benefit of the doubt.
It’s not about certain performances, it’s about skill level and mastery of these skills! All these guys getting paid millions, why he the only one to master dribbling shooting and passing like this! His post game, his footwork it’s unbelievable! Nobody has ever been on this level, his ability to finish at the rim either hand!
Chris is flat-out wrong in his take and choices. Curry is great for speed and shooting, but not for passing. Kyrie smoked curry everytime they met up! Curry cant hang with kyrie! Watching Irving highlights is like watching Jordan, but if you are honest - you are more astounded by Irving! Most skilled is Irving without a doubt and that title does not just stop at PG. If these guys cant recognize his high level of skill, then I question how they got their jobs - unless they are just hatin.
Chris is supposed to be a basketball expert but lost all credibility with this ridiculous take. None of those guys have Kyrie's handle, could finish with either hand or had a deeper bag than Kyrie. Which one of those guys could hit a runnin left handed hook?
Proof Kyrie is the most skilled: The topic comes up only when Kyrie is been mentioned. Haters (media) come and dispute then disappear and never bring up the tittle until someone praises Kyrie again. Past and current players all agreed on the topic already aka expert opinions
To me KI is like your favorite rapper's favorite rapper, has a couple 🔥 mix tapes, and a few collaborations with your favorite rapper. But like MJ we'll emulate or steal, inspire a few moves to add to our own bag
MJ, Penny, Magic, Julius, Pippen, Bird, Isiah, Iverson (though he took bad shots and didn't always play as a good team player) Hakeem, Robinson, The Most Skilled and Athletic players I've seen, As for PF's I'd say Kemp, McHale and Rodman were the best of the best. Duncan was just big like 7'1 with 7'7 wing span 260 and played PF but he was really a C.
Curry is not more skilled than Kyrie. Curry is better 3pts shooter but I don’t know if we can definitively say he’s a better all around shooter. Kyrie is better from the mid range, from the free throw line it’s close, Kyrie clearly is the better finisher at the rim with both hands. Kyrie has better handle. Supreme basketball instinct and skill is required to make a shot like that in that kind of a clutch situation. Just watch any Kyrie highlight video and show me a similar player making such plays with this incredible frequency. Almost half of his regular possessions are career-highlight worthy for other PGs in the last decade. None can navigate in the crowd and make tough shots (many times with insane flair and creativity) like Kyrie. None. You have a great list. I would add Jordan and Kobe to the end of that list and that's it. (Curry and Kyrie's shooting ability is above those others in the list, which is a huge deal, AI would be close to those two if he could shoot more efficiently from distance).
These guys like always miss the point....aint no NBA player talking about passing and shooting lol. Skill look what he does on the floor no one plays like kyrie
Guards are ubiquitous in the game because there are more at that height. NY has a host of guards who had the same skill level which he got most of his sauce from.
being dominant is better than skill because dominant means none can stop you skill can be guarded and you can make it hard but Shaq Gianni's and LeBron all go to the hole and get the easiest shots and you can't stop them but offensively skilled I'll say Kyrie and Vince and Kobe but overall skill it gotta be Kobe because defense matters
I love all of these qualifiers for “best ever”. Now we have “the most skilled player ever”. What does that even MEAN???😭 if he’s the most “skilled ever” then why has he never been in the MVP conversation? Wouldn’t you think he would at some point? And this is definitely the era of ZERO defense because it’s not considered a skill. It’s not even a part of basketball anymore and this conversation alone highlights it
Y’all tripping. Everyone commenting in this section qualifies for the NBA Hall of Fame. The standards are super low, and Kyrie has done more than a lot of the current NBA HOF members.
I get the feeling that many of these guy either object to start a conversation or they don't know what they are talking about. Time after time, you are in awe of Kyrie's moves in shooting, passing, stealing, handles, pint scoring, shooting, breaking legs and making other players look as if they just got started! Watching his highlight are like watching Jordan's at the LEAST! All of those other guys that Chris mentioned are not even close. Curry is good at shooting and moving fast, but without that on his side, he can't compete. Irving vs Curry always ends up with Curry not being able to look like Curry next Irving! Irving is so skilled, that I am always in awe when he plays and when I look back on his highlights and I realize that the man is still ballin now, so we should appreciate being able to see him! Bringing up any political stuff or team switching has nothing to do with his SKILLS and are only an excuse to hate. Overrated James Harden has switched teams in the worst ways, and now they love him again. Anyone objective observer who actually knows basketball, the players and the history - know that Irving is the most skilled, with people like Jordan, Magic Johnson on passes and play making and a Hakeem being at least his equal. Irving could very well be better. Skills don't matter position, it is what they have.
I love how you guys conveniently leave out above the rim finishing and dunking. Or post moves and footwork like those arent elite skills lol that wouldnt fit your narrative though. Kobe and MJ waaaaay more skilled than those guys Chris mentioned if you arent holding their other skills against them 😂 oh yeah and skilled on the defensive end as well but yeah that doesnt fit the "most skilled" narrative.
I’m glad you brought that up, because it’s one of the reasons Kyrie is considered the most skilled……his post game, footwork is “dreamlike”! His fadeaway over both shoulders is “Kobesque”! The total package is unmatched!
Hats of to Damian Lillard to say that publicly! Dame is Cream of the crop in NBA and his opinion matters. Not alot of players would say that in this position

Both Vince Carter & Gerald Green would have worked tirelessly on their crafts of dunking, in order to perfect their skill-sets, to do it repeatedly well. Natural ability can only carry you so far. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. Carter’s dunk repertoire in particular, was skilful as hell, so anybody suggesting that dribbling or shooting the basketball takes skill but mastering a 360° windmill dunk on a 10” rim doesn’t, is just flat out WRONG. This. He's a very good ball-handler, but is up there with probably the top 4 or 5 guys who really benefit from carrying/palming not being called anymore. Plus, skills and their application are relative. In the past 5 seasons Kyrie has barely played half of the available games....highly skilled or not it's not benefitting his teams all that much.
Kyrie benefitted from being the second option Everythere (Cleveland, Boston, Brooklyn, Dallas) while KD has been the first option almost everywhere. The type of attention he gets from defenses is way more intense than what Kyrie receives. In the 17 and 18 finals Golden State was focused on stopping LeBron rather than kyrie, Boston on stopping KD and the other day the Nuggets on stopping Luka rather than Kyrie. He was a dickhead so he ain’t pass as much but he has much better vision than a KD or a Kyrie Irving. I could go on and on. Every single move you could equip offensively Kobe mastered.

Yea. This is crazy. Because he had great handles and can make some difficult shots does not make him the most skilled.
Skill is often overlooked for some reason. Its ridiculous how they forget there are 2 ends of the court
Players past/present have been saying this for years now! Only analysts (old media) disagree! Chris answer was, “I can’t give it to Kyrie!” 😂
Exactly
Its politics. They are told not to like the dude...its praise Lebron and Steph. That's the narrative and its getting played out. I haven't seen a small guard in the NBA that does half the things Kyrie do. So how we having a debate? Next argument is he hasn't won anything after Lebron.

Letting players carry certainly makes them look more skilful, but Kyrie certainly seems to have the best handle of the carry era
First ballot HOF? Surely the criterias need to be stricter.
The reason I believe he's more skilled than curry is because he simply can get a bucket in more ways on the fly than anyone in the entire league. Plus i think he's the best tough shot maker in the entire league. dude just sinks everything with or without a hand in his face at an absurd level.
That is true though Kyriee is all around more skilled
Kobe's up there.
If you’re an older fellow, who can’t stand that every time curry or Irving, or most current NBA players move that they are traveling, like they’re running a football game, you’ll fall in love with Bob Cousy, and call him the most skilled
Just opinions
You went from Curry to Cousy when relating to the old heads 😮 Damm that’s cold

Kyrie has better footwork and he has a better mid post game. Kyrie is definitely more skilled than Curry.

Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.
