Fun fact: The first goaltender to be recorded wearing a mask in a hockey game- although it was a fencing mask- was Elizabeth Graham of Queen’s University in 1927. She donned the fencing mask in her school’s hockey game to protect her face as she had recently had dental work done and didn’t want the risk of ruining it with a puck to the face, but also didn’t want to miss the game. Was she the origin point? Pretty likely that she’s not, but it’s still a cool fact to learn.
I love how far BarDown has progressed, but these videos are CLASSICS! Also, this was the origin video where Corwin started talking about Gretzky’s inability to “raise the puck.” And this video is also the origin of Luka’s rivalry with CUJO!
Luca: “...It’s what the Romans used, one slash to heart heart and you’re done.” Me: In the Colosseum the Romans actually cut the jugular, the entire front neck, open when Gladiators killed each other.
Fun fact. Clint Benedict of the Montreal Maroons was actually the first person to wear a goalie mask. He only did it once cause it obstructed his view so much but Jacque Plante did it consistently
3:08 Brodeur succeeded Chris Terreri as the Devils' starter, and I also remember Corey Schwab, Kevin Weekes, Scott Clemmensen, and current Sharks assistant/goaltending coach Johan "Moose" Hedberg all backing up Brodeur at some point. And wouldn't you know it with Hedberg...
We want more Kishan!!!! I'm not sure if he's still at TSN, but he's great. He's like the opposite of Jesse because he knows a lot but talks a little, lol
"He did the reverse Jacques Plante...This game feels a little too safe" what makes that funny is that hasek was a goalie who just didn't care and would always full send it
Martin Brodeur backups: Roger Clement, Kevin Weeks, Johan Hedburg (Played 10 games when Marty was injured) Corey Shneider (Current starter) and Keith Kinkaid (current backup, was brought in from AHL when Marty got injured again to backup Shneider, finished a game against the Lightning) Never Heard of Scott Wedgewood tbh
You know what's kinda funny when you rewatch the bardown videos and you see funny things like Luca saying that Cujo's mask is a polar bear instead of a St Bernard named Cujo? Is now the Leafs have an affiliate in the ECHL called the Newfoundland Growlers and their mascot/logo is a St.Bernard like Cujo! Lmao How Ironic
Most hilarious thing was David Ayres wearing a Toronto theme mask while playing for the Canes AGAINST Toronto 😂 I know he was only emergency but still hilarious the Leafs couldn't beat their own Zamboni driver 😂😂
Jacques Plante got a Puck to the nose and being the only goalie for the canadiens at the time he had to play but refused to if he couldn't wear a mask he wore in practice, after an 18 game win streak the mask stayed.
When it came to Eddie "The Eagle" Belfour and his mask everyone was quick to say almost every team he has played for. The Team you missed that he also played for were the San Jose Sharks in 96-97 season. 13 games to be exact!
He only wore a mask for a few games at the end of the season to protect his broken nose. There were other goaltenders that wore a mask before him as well, just not regularly. Plante was the first one to make it a regular thing.
Surprised they didn't know Richter, his mask was the best of that generation, so clean and solid that you could see it on the crappy TV's of the time, while everyone else was going for complicated designs that ended up looking like mud. They even made a third jersey out of it.
The first goalie on the list who played with Leafs ties was the first goalie on the list actually. Jacques Plante slummed it in Toronto for a few years later in his career.
I surprised myself with knowing more than I thought! ... When he asked about Devils backups I knew a few obviously and then on 24 it got to my head thinking that it was Scott Clemmensen because I had said Wedgewood probably wouldn’t have such a cool mask made in time for the NHL cause he started like 3 games for the Devils before being basically a career AHLer
you guys should do a quiz where everyone has to answer history for the other guys favorite team. So Jesse answers leafs/Avs. Luca does Jets/leafs. and so on
I immediately guessed the Wedgewood one but he's a goalie with the Yotes this year so that probably makes it a lot easier. He is still playing with a Devils mask. It's a different mask but the style is the same.
Fun fact for the Bardown team. I still have 3 of those goalie masks from McDonald's, including the Potvin one. Also have some of those holographic cards sitting around. My uncle use to be the CEO of McDonald's Canada so I got some great stuff growing up
Luca and Corwin really showed how young they are in this one. Didn't know who Alpha and Puddies are? and barely recognized Richter and Potvin? This was a cool one though.
Someone should point out Clint Benedict was the first goalie to ever wear a mask in the NHL (1930) for the Montreal Maroons. Plante popularized it and was the first to wear it full time.
Yann Danis, Kevin Weeks, Johan Hedberg, Scott Clemenson, John Vanbiesbrouck and Cory Schneider split time with him in 2014. Don’t forget the first player that backed him up after he lost his starting role, Chris Terreri. I’m a Devils fan.
Plant was the first NHL goalie mask. First ever goalie to wear a mask was a Japanese(!) goalie at 1936 Olympics. He needed it cause he wore glasses and IIRC it was an adapted Kendo helmet
According to Luca, Ed Belfour was the first goalie on this list with ties to the Leafs... But Jacques Plante actually played for the Leafs, and he was the first one out of the 25 goalies
So Luca doesn't know that Cujo is a dog, doesn't know who Mitch Hedberg is, and doesn't know Alpha or the Putties from the Power Rangers. Honestly I can forgive the Cujo and Power Rangers references, but not knowing Mitch Hedberg is unforgivable. Luca since you don't win at these quizzes very often, it seems that you (and the Colorado Avalanche) are taking the great Mr. Hedberg's words to heart, "I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're going and hook up with them later." :)
Wedgewood is my personal favorite goalie because I was playing with my friends in chel 18 and they were so bad I said I would beat them with the coyotes. I put wedge wood who was like a 72 and he got like 3 shutouts 😂
Jacques Plante was the first goalie to regularly wear a mask during games, starting on November 1st, 1959. He was NOT however the first to wear a mask therefore the first mask in the quiz was NOT the first goalie mask ever used. That medal goes to Clint Benedict who wore a mask for 5 games in 1930 after breaking his nose.
These guys need their own channel.

Holy guac if Jesse isn’t on the next video I am going to LOSE IT
Next video should be “Name popular fighter jets from the 1980’s”
Jordan Henry i relate
Same
Jordan Henry I hate Jesse
Jordan Henry I agree
Everyone knows Brodeur’s backup was G. Backup.
Duh
rip jesse in TSN videos 2018-2018
Jesse will be back in the next vid...he's just on vacay in the 'Peg!
Wouldn't have "pegged" that city as a vacation destination
We need Jesse out here talking about body parts
Tell Jesse the jets got pegged by the knights
TSN thats what we need, (jesse willget more wins)
Luca: I hate everything that city stands for
Me: New Jersey is a State
To be fair there is a Jersey city. The Devils don't play there, but it exists.
I love how far BarDown has progressed, but these videos are CLASSICS! Also, this was the origin video where Corwin started talking about Gretzky’s inability to “raise the puck.” And this video is also the origin of Luka’s rivalry with CUJO!

its always better with jeese also he would have gotten most them wrong cuz there werent any jets
Fun fact. Clint Benedict of the Montreal Maroons was actually the first person to wear a goalie mask. He only did it once cause it obstructed his view so much but Jacque Plante did it consistently
Oh yeah, this is big brain time
Thanks for stating that, I was about to put that into the comments! Cheers!
Lovin the BarDown Vids... Keep it up TSN!
bro tht girl w the scratchy voiceee is perfection......
She needs to clear her damn throat
Which one
I was gonna say the same thing
Can someone let Luca know that Cujo didn't have a polar bear on his mask? 😏
TSN yes luca
TSN plz do
Luca you’re dumb
I believe Jacques Plante played for the Leafs at one point too!
I think luca needs to watch Cujo and then he may understand
Being around all these guys' ages made this one a breeze for me. As a kid I was obsessed with goalie masks and would draw them all the time.
Do team captains!
Person Goes Nuts yaaas
One strike because that should be easy for them
that would be entertaining to watch
3:08 Brodeur succeeded Chris Terreri as the Devils' starter, and I also remember Corey Schwab, Kevin Weekes, Scott Clemmensen, and current Sharks assistant/goaltending coach Johan "Moose" Hedberg all backing up Brodeur at some point.
And wouldn't you know it with Hedberg...
you guys should do Stanley cup runner ups
10:27
I am actually crying RN...
Not just saying it either, I am really crying tears of laughter!
16:22 When you'rs so salty, you think New Jersey's a city instead of a state
canadians, amirite
Jersey city. NJ is a city though
When referring to Marty: “Can you think of any of his backups?”
Later in the quiz: Johan Hedberg.
Me, a Devil’s fan: screaming intensifies.
RIP Jesse
Person Goes Nuts He is not dead he is in the peg
Love the Corey Schwab reference....twice! He gave me his stick after warmups years ago when he was with the Leafs playing in DC against my Caps.
ive followed corwin on insta and we're still not dating. come on bb come thru
okay he didnt know my boy richter so maybe i need to rethink our relationship
whats his insta?
@corwin 😍😍😍
@@bridgget522 Pavel Bure would have got that one ;)
What's corwin thinking.
We want more Kishan!!!! I'm not sure if he's still at TSN, but he's great. He's like the opposite of Jesse because he knows a lot but talks a little, lol
There's a major lack of teeth. Oh wait, where's J.?
„It is a polar bear of some kind“
„a pOlaR BeAr?“
Hanna 8898 to be fair, he knew that STL’s mascot is a polar bear, which even I as a blue-blooded Blues fan thought was a dog.
Logan Mainord Yeah, honestly these guys still know a shitload of stuff about hockey, there‘s really nothing you can say against that
"He did the reverse Jacques Plante...This game feels a little too safe"
what makes that funny is that hasek was a goalie who just didn't care and would always full send it
Martin Brodeur backups: Roger Clement, Kevin Weeks, Johan Hedburg (Played 10 games when Marty was injured) Corey Shneider (Current starter) and Keith Kinkaid (current backup, was brought in from AHL when Marty got injured again to backup Shneider, finished a game against the Lightning)
Never Heard of Scott Wedgewood tbh

Most hilarious thing was David Ayres wearing a Toronto theme mask while playing for the Canes AGAINST Toronto 😂 I know he was only emergency but still hilarious the Leafs couldn't beat their own Zamboni driver 😂😂
Well they didn't get Mitch Marner for...wait no im pretty sure it was Brandon Gallagher i don't know
Freddy VASQUEZ he is a crossover of Mitch Marner and Brendan Gallagher
Brendan Gallagher
Jacques Plante got a Puck to the nose and being the only goalie for the canadiens at the time he had to play but refused to if he couldn't wear a mask he wore in practice, after an 18 game win streak the mask stayed.
First cup? Patrick Roy won 2 cups with the habs
Yeah, he never really says it was the "only" one. But he did indeed win his first with the Habs!
Toad 456 yes.... and his first one with Montreal.
And they're plugged in his ears!!! Just ask Jeremy Roenick about that. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
When it came to Eddie "The Eagle" Belfour and his mask everyone was quick to say almost every team he has played for. The Team you missed that he also played for were the San Jose Sharks in 96-97 season. 13 games to be exact!
No clint benedict? Literally the first to wear a mask in the show!
He only wore a mask for a few games at the end of the season to protect his broken nose. There were other goaltenders that wore a mask before him as well, just not regularly. Plante was the first one to make it a regular thing.

Love these videos. Luca drives me crazy with the yelling but he’s funny
At 10:00 Luca clearly knows Fiset's helmet....
But didn't know he won a champ with the Avs in the NHL Favorite Teams quiz
Luca is like my favorite person now. I gotta meet this fellow avs/the office fan
The first goalie on the list who played with Leafs ties was the first goalie on the list actually. Jacques Plante slummed it in Toronto for a few years later in his career.

Michael Boland 😈🔴⚫️⚪️🏒🥅
I am a goalie and just last week I told my coach to have pucks be shot at my head so I will take it without flinching and moving my head. xD
Oh Emilie.. you Coldplay shirt wearin', hockey lovin', sailor mouthed goddess
*swoon
That offer to marry me still stands. Hit me up.
Lmao cujo the dog lmao this is hilarious, a freaking polar bear I'm dying.
Petr marazk's peter griffin helmet bettet be here
I stopped watching when almost all of them didn’t know the FREAKING LEGEND named Mike Richter!!!
you guys should do a quiz where everyone has to answer history for the other guys favorite team. So Jesse answers leafs/Avs. Luca does Jets/leafs. and so on
Nicole Hill YES
I was thinking an Avs quiz with Luca behind the camera.
They asked if Marty Brodeur even had any backups yet Johan Hedberg is later in the quiz 🤔
Ha! Cant raise the puck until 1990
Wilkes beare penguins my faverote is Christian Thomas i know it
I immediately guessed the Wedgewood one but he's a goalie with the Yotes this year so that probably makes it a lot easier. He is still playing with a Devils mask. It's a different mask but the style is the same.
I really enjoy those videos, keep em coming guys! 👌🏻
Ed belfour wasnt the first goalie on this quiz to have leaf ties juaqe plante played for the leafs
I love goalie's it's my favorite position and I love the costume helmets it's a chance to show personalty on ice
Fun fact for the Bardown team. I still have 3 of those goalie masks from McDonald's, including the Potvin one. Also have some of those holographic cards sitting around. My uncle use to be the CEO of McDonald's Canada so I got some great stuff growing up
I really wanna know who the guy behind the camera is
Rory Allen Skip to the end of the Smelling Salts vid 👋

Its Z
Hey Mike Richter! He's an alumni from my school, love that guy!
You guys are the best keep up the good work
Thanks, Alex! Appreciate the support!
No way I never expected you to like it and back
TSN was
That awkward moment when Luca doesn't know that New Jersey is a state.... not a city
When I first saw Haseks I thought it was Jessie’s helmet
Was surprised not to see Guy Hebert (Anaheim Mighty Ducks) or Hannu Toivonen (St. Louis Blues) masks displayed in this list.
This mask quiz was way too easy - try different goalie masks (some of the more obscure ones) ... or goalie pads. That's an interesting one.
Yasssss Z, talking bout the OG Power Rangers. That was the best one and nobody can convince me otherwise that they were not
COME BACK NORDIQUES!!! 🙏🏻
These dudes need their own channel
RIP Emery
Started uncontrollably laughing at 13:31.
Teal is blue. All im gonna say
Teal is a green blue
Fax
No cyan is blue.
It's actually an equal amount of blue and green
Luca and Corwin really showed how young they are in this one. Didn't know who Alpha and Puddies are? and barely recognized Richter and Potvin? This was a cool one though.
But even though hasek was “too safe” he’s still arguably the best goalie of all time
Someone should point out Clint Benedict was the first goalie to ever wear a mask in the NHL (1930) for the Montreal Maroons. Plante popularized it and was the first to wear it full time.
4:11 head trajectory goaltending
Actually Jacques Plante was the first goalie on the list with Leafs ties. Played for them from 1970-73
Brian Hayward had the best mask of all time.
Clint Benedict was the first goalie to wear a mask in the NHL
Jacques was not the first goalie to ever wear a mask. He is however the first goalie to permanently wear a mask.
Love these videos. Do Calder Memorial Trophy winners :)
How can I get a job at BarDown? Talking about hockey 24/7 and the coworkers are cool? Yes please!
I thought for sure u guys would have used chris osgood's weird helmet
Love how Luca forgot how Cujo wore an altered version of that mask with the Blues
Hey man, i watch the coyotes.
Puck Daily sorry
who do you watch
Puck Daily the atlanta thrashers
Croatia I was lying my favorite team is the humboldt Broncos (pre crash roster)
Puck Daily thats not it chief smh
Also, Clint Benedict was the first NHL goalie to wear a mask in a game; Plante merely popularized it.
4:12 me in warmup for games
Plant was the first NHL goalie mask. First ever goalie to wear a mask was a Japanese(!) goalie at 1936 Olympics. He needed it cause he wore glasses and IIRC it was an adapted Kendo helmet
I see people mention another NHL goalie which predates even that one *shrug* in any case, still not Plant
How do I get to be on one of these lmao. I wanna work for TSN
According to Luca, Ed Belfour was the first goalie on this list with ties to the Leafs... But Jacques Plante actually played for the Leafs, and he was the first one out of the 25 goalies
Saw Maria Papadakis
Nuff said
The tfc reporter chick
Making Corwin a Nickleback fan is kind of a low blow. But, I love it
5:45 i own that potvin mask
As a kid Mike Richter Played for the Wissahickon Warriors I know because he played hockey with my dad
HOW DOES NO ONE KNOW MIKE RICHTER! AS BOTH A BADGERS AND A RANGERS FAN I AM THOROUGHLY IRRATATED
Exactly!! Richter has one of the best damn masks ever
@@isyaboigenji2483 HE'S ONE OF THE BEST
For the record the guy saying only 2 Leaf goalies in the top five there are actually 3 as Plante once played for the Leafs as well.
Maria is so beautiful...plus a Leafs Fan. Thumbs up for me!

Wedgewood is my personal favorite goalie because I was playing with my friends in chel 18 and they were so bad I said I would beat them with the coyotes. I put wedge wood who was like a 72 and he got like 3 shutouts 😂
Clint Benedict was the 1st man to wear a goalie mask. Jacques Plante was the 1st to wear one on a regular basis.
Henrik Lundqvist...?
Diskriminering
Jacques Plante was the first goalie to regularly wear a mask during games, starting on November 1st, 1959. He was NOT however the first to wear a mask therefore the first mask in the quiz was NOT the first goalie mask ever used. That medal goes to Clint Benedict who wore a mask for 5 games in 1930 after breaking his nose.
