Lyrics:
These days are long, these lives are full
Just for tonight can we take it slow
I turned the breakers off, there’s no electric glow
And naked as the night sky we’re laid out on the floor
And in the lantern light, the flicker of the flame
You have never been more beautiful
I wouldn't change a thing, give thanks for every day
I came home to you
Well I can be stubborn and you can be hard
There’s nothing to forgive, it's just the way we are
And all we ever wanted is what no-one’s ever had
Just to never hurt the ones we love again
And in the lantern light, the flicker of the flame
You have never been more beautiful
I wouldn't change a thing, give thanks for every day
I came home to you
Don’t you hide those scars
Love every little wound that made you who you are
In the lantern light, the flicker of the flame
You have never been so beautiful
So beautiful
I think we both know
That you’re the stronger one
I think we both hope
This isn’t over and done
And in the lantern light, the flicker of the flame
You have never been more beautiful
I wouldn't change a thing, give thanks for every day
I came home to you
Don’t you hide those scars
Love every little wound that made you who you are
In the lantern light, the flicker of the flame
You have never been more beautiful
More beautiful
No matter what is going on in life, the moment I hear any TOAD music - be it their brand new brilliance or their masterpieces from the 90s - I am instantly transcended to an emotional and nostalgic landscape in my soul that only Glen's voice can make happen. And it is a continual occurrence that has spanned almost 3 decades now. It's magical. It's surreal. It's bittersweet. This place encompasses both my life's most cherished memories and my saddest days - all racing to the forefront of my consciousness with the first few chords of any TOAD song. I had the privilege of seeing them live in Connecticut in 1997 and am hoping to see them again next year at Mohegan Sun - 25 years later.
Glen - if you ever read this, please know that your music has been such a special influence in my life .. soothing and sacred and haunting and uplifting and simply etched in the fiber of my being.
Your voice and lyrics reverberate in my soul long after the music has stopped playing.
This world is blessed with the musical genius that you are.♡
Quite the same here. Long wait for this new album. Their songs never age for me. Makes me happy.
I remember back in 93’ I was in a apt. Cleaning it out and saw a box with Columbia house CDs that you can buy for a dollar and be part of their Columbia music exchange as I’m flipping through it I see this CD called fear by a band called toad the wet sprocket so I took a chance and put that CD in my CD player and still to this day I am a huge toad the wet sprocket fan there music is phenomenal! They do great work!
I play Bass and have a bunch of songs of theirs that i jam to Dean is one of my favorite bassists. This week learn “So Alive” GREAT song! ✌️
@@Keepmelevel Walk on the ocean was my first introduction, which played on MTV Alternative back then in 1991. That song clearly hooked me on to Toad to this day!
Well said.. I have loved them from the moment I heard that signature sound in the early 90's but never got to see them back then...saw Glen solo a couple times and just accepted that I'd not get to see TTWS together....... until a few years ago and in 2011 got to see them on my birthday and a meet and greet ..I was ecstatic.. exhausted from driving so many hours to see them.. but it was worth it 💖
Been a fan since the garage days . I had the privilege of meeting Glen outside of a Toad event and talked to him. He is such a down to earth grounded guy unlike others I have met over the years. His music takes me to a happy place no matter what's going on in my life. My life was at a cross roads in the mid 90s n I met a beautiful lady named Nancy but I was already in a relationship the song "Nanci" just came out and it's 27 years later and I am still with my Nancy. Thanks Glen for all the great memories and especially your help through Covid dark times. Starting Now album is a master piece.
Don n Nancy from Newport Beach
What a beautiful melody , arranged so well.. beautiful voice and guitars .. thanks Toad .. one more amazing song
It'd be hard for anyone to hold a light to the smooth harmony of the backing vocals in the song's chorus. That soothful blending of voices is quintessential TTWS.
Glen is one of the great, if underappreciated, pop/rock lyricists of our times.
This song is just awesome. The way the band come together in amazing harmony is mind blowing. Then we have of course the lyrics and vocals, so down to earth but shattering. These guys believe in their message and its certainly getting to me.
This sounds like it could've been plucked off one of their albums from 20 or 25 years ago. Beautiful and timeless. Thanks, guys!
Oh Toad...you guys just keep musically evolving with every song you create. I continue to be a fan for life 😌❤
Wow! That brings tears to my eyes!!! All we ever wanted, was something no one ever had. To never hurt the ones we love again!
Loving these new songs - just as i have loved all the rest before . I just wondered if I am in the minority ofyour fans who thinks that Coil is not only YOUR greatest album but one of THE greatest albums ever? ?
I couldn’t agree more. Coil is a masterpiece. Shame it didn’t get the exposure it deserved.
Coil is the home of my most favorite TTWS song, “Desire”. Also, the unwavering promise of “All Things in Time” We need more live recordings, too❣️ 🥰 😍 😍 🤩 .
Not the best but my favorite. Still waiting for the Coil double blue vinyl pressing to complete my Box Set.
This is great 👍 I actually prefer their first two albums ....Pale and Bread and Circus....Corporal Brown is a classic
@@georgeklavins7257 “Corporal Brown” and also “PS” 😍 🤩 🤩 💛
Everything is beautiful 😊❤️🎶😊❤️🎶. The song, ocean, lantern on the rock. Looks almost like a dream you don’t want to wake up from. Thank you Toad ❤️🎶❤️🎶❤️🎶
What a song. Evokes feelings of a dying marriage that one wishes could stay alive...something with which Mr. Phillips would be intimately acquainted. I just heard the do this live in Homer, NY in a fanst6astic, beautiful venue.
Yes I agree with this interpretation of the song. Glen doesn’t tend to like to overly explain his songs but I bet this is about his dying marriage from a few years ago. It could also be about a time period where you get back together with someone for a little while but you know it’s temporary and eventually she “will be the strong one” and end it.
Actually, I think this is about the reverse . . . of finding new love after dissolution of an earlier one (cf. "The Best of Me," off of the same album). I see in here the relationship that led to Glen's second marriage, with a couple learning to become vulnerable.
Fantastic band! Glenn Phillips is just a great singer!
Thank you guys… really. Thank you 🥹
Between this and Transient Whales are definitely my tops on this album but let’s be honest the whole album is incredible.
Another heartachingly gorgeous tune. Honestly, I don't think I can settle on my favorite song from this album - it seems to change with each new release. The song-writing, vocals & musicianship are blended brilliantly throughout these songs. Stunningly beautiful.
I'm from Brazil, I love your sound. I hope you come to Brazil when everything is better here. Hugs from Eduardo Mendes (Hunter Mendes)

What a good song. Can't wait to listen to the rest. I'm so glad you guys still put out such good stuff!

In mexico in the nineties we have to wait for weeks or even months to be lucky to hear the new toad's song until the radio plays it.... not any more. Thankyou guys!!! Please give me a heart!
They will be in Mexico next year at Hootiefest 2022
You sing like you never slowly grow old... Still love your singing style...
He's one of those singers who sounds just as good live as he does recorded.
@@kenbolden7921 to see them perform live is a wish ungranted...
@@rodolfocarantojr3780 I've seen the band play once, and Glen Phillips solo twice in a tiny cafe. He's just great.

🙏💙 much love from Santa Fe, NM 💙🙏
My dad love this music
Took me back to the 90s and my teens 💗 Thanks to one of my favourite bands 💗
Simple stories that we can all relate to. TWS music has always been that way.
The opposite of a love letter; lamenting a love that is ceasing to exist. One could get introspective and notice the sentiment juxtaposition of this tune vs “The Best of Me”.
I didn’t get that
Glen did mention in one of the livestreams that this was more of a breakup song. It changed my appreciation of the song and actually made it, well, more beautiful.
@@WhyTheHorseface Fair enough, these are my perceptions! 🤣
@@dacs98 Yes, the background story does add a different depth to the song❣️
Worth the long wait. Just realised you have a new album! Listening now. Thank you Toad the Wet Sprocket for making me so happy at this time!
Love this!! New sound, yet classic Toad all over it!!!
These cats will always have my heart.
Thanks guys!
blessings philippines❤💛💚
Might be my favorite song from the new album !!
🥰
Love it! Hope all Squirrels are well!
Yes, missing everyone! Good to hear from you both!
One of my favorites as well. Missing squirrel friends- good to “see” you here!
Is this song perhaps about the end times of Glen’s marriage or any relationship where you know it’s dying slowly, but you still want to enjoy those last moments together? It could also be that phase when you’ve broken up, but you reconnect out of pure loneliness. But you know “she’s the stronger one” and she will eventually end the relationship for good.
This is just lovely. Stunning really.
So beautiful
I have been a Fan of TTWS since Pale and songs like these, are why I'm still a fan. So glad for new music
Love this song so much. Thank you 🤗
Wow great song with melody, and looks like a different kind of genre.
a must have cd! solid toad!
Meu coração vai explodir! Aaaaaaahhh eu amo essa música! 😍😍😍😍
Linda né a canção! Amei! Sou do RJ
Gracias maestros. Gracias Glen tu voz me acompaña desde los veinte años.
P.d. quiero estar en esa playa, cerca de la linterna. Y quedarme ahi.
Man, this hope thing just keeps on getting better. #Toad
great song!! you guys are so good..you should be much bigger than you are. you remind me of another great band...The Clarks (from Pittsburgh)...they too have great music but it seems like they aren't as big as they should be....
Thats funny you say this because Toad is my favorite band and my 15 year old daughter actually listens to The Clarks quite a bit.
Absolutely beautiful!
So beautiful OMG !! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
So Beautiful! ♥️
Beautiful!
🤘
Rio de Janeiro Brasil 🤟😉
Cool
SO absolutely Beautiful!!
I'm ashamed to say that I didnt think I would like this album, based off my first initial listening of Game Day. Almost sounded like they went in a different direction with this album. But.....I was completely wrong, and have listened to Lantern probably 25 times in the last 3 hours. The harmonies are so soothing.
Great riff
Very very good!! I'm from Brazil!!
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Very nice! I'm a Seattle folksinger, and not familiar with this band (though I've certainly heard the name before). Maybe I should listen to more of their songs, after all this time... :)
I would highly recommend it; they are probably my favorite band. The albums Fear, Dulcinea, and Coil, I believe are their best.
Either way, if you look more into them, I think you're about to discover a lot more amazing music.
Cheers from Wisconsin.
Bela melodia.
🥰
those harmonies!
Me encanta su música y su voz
🥰🥰🥰🤗🤗
Bad music from Toad doesn't exist
I literally dgaf ABOUT me at this MOMENT
Love this song. Learning the bass part but getting lost around the 2:30 mark. Can't find any tabs on the internuts, can anyone help me?
