Konkan Railway is part of Indian railway. But its not a zone like other zones. Its another corporation under indian railway.
It is not a part of Indian Railways. It is owned by the Central and State governments jointly. Also KR has to pay Indian Railways for locomotives that get assigned to KR.Recruitment is separate and you cannot transfer to any other zone unlike a transfer from NR to WR. Opportunities therefore are limited to within KR.

Not to forget the first highspeed train trail run at 2002 was done and initiated by Konkan railway where they ran a WDP 4 from madgaon until Roha with 8 lhb coaches at the speed of 170 km/h, and that was able to maintain a constant speed of 150 km/h even with the curves, gradients and rough terrains, also the time where Indian railways realised how much they underestimated this powerful diesal beast thanks to KR

yes you are right about track support speed. KR laid track which can support up to 160 kmph speed. Trial run done with then latest LHB coaches of Shatabdi and rajdhani coaches. For supporting this fact check the news of how 3 hrs late Tejas express arrive on scheduled time at its last destination station CSMT, in that run Tejas express run at 150 kmph between KUDAL to RATNAGIRI and 155 to 160 kmph between RATNAGIRI to RoHA or PANVEL.
@@Thetrainmusafir Already premium trains runs at mps of 130 kmph but there is technical problem such as single line, hill area, vibration, and mainly KR route is super busy as it carry 110 to 150 percentage traffic than it's capacity.

Konkan Railway should be dissolved and made a part of IR. Roha to Madgaon should be with Central Railway and from Madgaon to Mangalore should be with South Western Railway. Had it been with IR today, it would have been a double track line.

The 160 km/h 100% true, it was even posted in newspapers, this was made 160 fit at year 2002 December where they tested a SGUJ WDP 4 locomotive which touched 170 km/h on these tracks and initially they decided to make the average speed or trains in this section 126 km/h but due to resonance on bridges and heavy trains functioning at the same time this was called off by CRS to ensure safety, but yes even rn KR is a 160 fit route during summer time and not to mention it was the fastest average speed train that had ever ran on Indian tracks, and I'm really proud to say that the that speed was achieved by a diesel locomotive WDP 4 ✨
