I’m getting sad knowing each of these One Takes brings us closer to the end of the series. They’ve been such an integral part of my morning for years now and since RCR only uploads on Mondays I don’t know what I’m gonna watch while taking my morning dump. Perhaps I’ll start from the beginning and work my way forward again lol.
I stopped at 2:20 and had to scroll down to see whether there were more comments like this. I hope this dude reads it and changes his attitude. I would never buy from him. No wonder it's hasn't sold yet.
One of my best pieces of advice my own sales manager gave me about taking customers on test drives was to show them how to adjust the mirrors and then shut the fuck up. This guy could use a lot of the latter piece of advice.
This guy knows painfully little about this car. The North American 380 was still a V8, it was just emissions-choked down to the power of a six. the 280 and 300 were I6es. Also, 1980 and newer cars used the 4-speed automatic, not the 3-speed. And yes, there was a 500SLC.
I still can’t believe your leaving us! Happy New Year! May this new year all your dreams turn into reality and all efforts into great achievements! We’re going to miss you man! Good luck to you!
In older Mercedes "S" means slope. It's meant to be used when you drive on hills. It just overrides the last gear (which usually is an overdrive). The "L" just means low (as in low gear).
"S" actually stands for slope. Choosing slope starts in first gear and upshifts to 2nd gear only. Useful for engine braking effect (as per SL/SLC owners manual). Thanks
It seems slot of people are giving the salesman crap for being loud and interrupting, but lets be honest here, Matt is the king of being loud and interrupting people. I understand that it's his show but he isn't the one who builds the cars he reviews, so the input of the owners are very important in my opinion.
You could get the C 107 (SLC) with a 5 liter V8. From 1978 to 1980 it was called 450 SLC 5.0 and featured the M 117 with 5025 cc and 240 hp/402 Nm (German config without catalytic converter) and a 3 speed automatic. Don't know if it was available in the US. From 1980 to 1981 it was upgraded to a 500 SLC, which featured the M 117 with 4973 cc, 240 hp/404 Nm and a new 4 speed automatic.
I have a 75 450slc sitting in my garage right now, my family is the only one to ever own the car. Had a coolant leak but trying to fix it so I can get it back on the road like it is supposed to be!
I'm going to miss your show so damn much Matt! Don't go! This is really tough for me to swallow knowing that I may never see any content from you again. Especially since I've already watched basically everything you've ever posted more than once. The car review world on UA-cam will never be the same without you. RIP The Smoking Tire 2009-2018 :(
I agree I hate to think that this won't be part of my morning ritual. These have been part of my morning for years. I just got so excited just to see it on since it had a little break. But Matt will do something else that will kill it!
High Guys, I was just looking up in the Owners-Manual of my 280 SL, what "S" an "L" stands for: "P" is for Parking "R" is for Reverse "N" is for Neutral "D" is for "Direct" (Really. It says: Car starts in 1st Gear, all Gears available, normal Drive mode) "S" is for "Steigung" (Slope, Pitch; for going uphill or downhill, Car won't shift no more than into 3rd Gear. "L" is for "Last" (Load, Strain; for really steep hills and mountain passes, Car won't shift no more than into 2nd Gear)
A couple of facts for those that are not as familiar with these cars (as in the case of the two in the video): ALL 380'S are V8s. All automatic transmissions after 1980 in these models ARE 4 SPEED (not 3 speed as stated). The letters L-S-D are essentially "hill" hugel or first, S is for Steigung or slope. Each selector will allow the transmission to stay in a limited ability meaning that in L you can only shift up to second and in S only up to 3rd. Unless there is a B1 on the shift indicator there is no way to start out in first gear. The transmission does shift into 1st on hard acceleration from stop. A "Nardi" steering wheel was a dealer add on option. There is also an AMG option at the dealer for that. There were several other options as well.
I have a 380SLC euro specs 1981 215Hp automatic and I have driven long distances and the way they sit in curves and a nice V8 that car shines on the road. They are going up in prices due to the fact that so few of the SLC where built where as the SL version, you can get them anywhere.
Don't be too hard on the guy. It's obvious he's excited. He seemed very knowledgeable and technical about the car and was passionate about cars in general. Hope he does well.
The "S" in transmission engages 2nd gear for starting off in slippery conditions or holding it in gear for downhill driving. The "L" engages 1st gear. Those were very well sorted cars, they just need a looser torque converter and obviously 4 gears instead of 3.
Every used car salesman ever: WELL IT'S COMPLETELY STOCK AND IN PERFECT CONDITION except for a different engine, front suspension, rust through the frame, changed interior bits IF I HAD THE MONEY I'D BUY THIS CAR MYSELF!
Car slash LHD JDM V8 nature of it is refreshing and compelling. Dealership not posting a price is less so. Guy's okay. He's not portraying himself as a Benz expert and he lets Matt guide stuff.
Eh, it depends on the car. On something stock like this I'd agree, but if it was something somebody built from the ground up (like the no-fucks-given-rx7), I wanna hear the passenger talk a lot about it.
The license plate is HUTTON! Love it and you’re so mysterious and enigmatic. Miss Liz, are you the secret grandchild of Barbara Hutton and Cart Grant? I thought so!
Mercedes benz did sell a 500SLC it was a homologation special they built 2,769 of them as well as the 5 litre V8 they also had aluminium bonnet and trunk also the wheel base on a C107 is 360mm longer than a R107 so a little more than the 100 mm the salesman mentioned also this car being a 1981 should have a 4 speed auto transmission but you wouldn't notice it as to get them to engage first gear you have to force it to choose 1st by putting the care in L and giving the car full throttle from a standstill
Great color! That being said funny how the same car couldn't even meet reserve at less than $7000 on Bring A Trailer in 2016 and now this guy wants $20k.
The American "3.8" was the same V8 in 1982, just a detuned, emissions-friendly version. They actually made these with a 4-speed manual, too... I got to drive one (a 450SLC) that was completely fucking trashed a long time ago, but it was cool. This car looks dope but I dunno about that price. There's probably an SL fanatic somewhere out there who would pay it, cuz those guys do exist, but you can find good SLCs for half that price - even the Euro cars... there were shitloads of grey market SLCs imported to the US back then.
BTW. A friend of mine has an 380-it isn´t slow. I dont know something could be wrong with this one here. The auto is following: D = Direkt, S = Steigung und L = Last (German) in English: direct, rise/uphill and load :D

I doubt these will end any time soon. People will continue modify cars and new cars are coming all the time.
Hene193 he said he's ending them in a couple months.
Hene193 ya Matt says they are ending, so they probably will end.
Robert Hull where has he stated that? :( I assume it's some random older video?
Hene193 latest update video
Starting your sentence at a louder volume 2 syllables into someone elses sentence is about the worst habit you can have as a salesman.
I stopped at 2:20 and had to scroll down to see whether there were more comments like this.
I hope this dude reads it and changes his attitude. I would never buy from him. No wonder it's hasn't sold yet.
Check out the website mentioned. His "inventory" consists of 2 cars. 😂
mother F I HATE when people interrupt and talk over other people like that. So ridiculously rude and annoying.
He out interrupts Matt, I'm impressed...
One of my best pieces of advice my own sales manager gave me about taking customers on test drives was to show them how to adjust the mirrors and then shut the fuck up. This guy could use a lot of the latter piece of advice.
Shouty mc shoutface
I would seriously walk right out of that dealership. I'm having flashbacks to my sales days.
Why is he yelling into Matt's sentences
Glad somebody mentioned it.
"I am really starting to like this car I am selling!" -Every car salesman ever.
Couldn't watch it, I felt like I was Matt and all my sentences were being interrupted and it hurt me inside
Matt constantly interrupts his guest lol
It's low-key funny lmao
What an odd car sales person, I’d tell him to shut up
Alex there's nothing odd about a car salesperson not shutting up
He’s creepy, I wouldn’t get in a car with him.
Hes only sold two cars, and only has two for sale.
He's passionate and knows what he's talking about. Rare for a sales guy.
he seems like a regular guy to me. Just passionate about cars
This dealer guy was kinda annoying...cool car though.
ChaosphereIX In his defence, he is a car dealer..
That's why he's selling cars lol. Need to be chatty.
Doushey mc dousche bag
He couldn't say 20k with out that ass eating grin
imagine trying to buy a car from this dude..... lol!
Early morning dump club returns
vnitto I was all constipated going thru tst withdrawl.
All you dudes talking about your "dumps" are idiots. Not funny or clever, nobody cares, stfu
Afternoon dump time!
Finally a golden era Mercedes! Not many cars are built with better solidity and quality than an 80s Mercedes-Benz.
I've got a 450slc I just got done fixing up last year, new paint and looking fresh 😁😁
This passenger is a combo of Frodo and Casey Neistat.
"S" stand for second gear and "L" is for low or 1st gear
S actually stands for "slope" believe it or not. At least it is what it says on the w123 manual.
Those Rial wheels are dope. I used to have a set for my 5 series.
I still can’t believe your leaving us! Happy New Year! May this new year all your dreams turn into reality and all efforts into great achievements! We’re going to miss you man! Good luck to you!

Love these videos! In the older cars "S" stands for "second" haha. Low, Second, Drive
or Snow?
"S" actually stands for slope. Choosing slope starts in first gear and upshifts to 2nd gear only. Useful for engine braking effect (as per SL/SLC owners manual). Thanks

always refreshing to to witness an American begin to understand a quality European vehicle..have fun xx
The definition of CLASS. Unique and exclusive all day any day preferred.
I have a 75 450slc sitting in my garage right now, my family is the only one to ever own the car. Had a coolant leak but trying to fix it so I can get it back on the road like it is supposed to be!
Great car, passenger - not so much.
Beautiful car! A friend of mine had a gold 350 SLC when we were at school, loved going in it.
I'm going to miss your show so damn much Matt! Don't go! This is really tough for me to swallow knowing that I may never see any content from you again. Especially since I've already watched basically everything you've ever posted more than once. The car review world on UA-cam will never be the same without you. RIP The Smoking Tire 2009-2018 :(
Nice car, but minor corrections. The 380SLC uses 722.3 which is a 4 speed. The 500SLC was also available in 1980/1981.
That was me! Soon as I saw the picture I said YUP this is it! (I was taking a dump so perfect timing)
I agree I hate to think that this won't be part of my morning ritual. These have been part of my morning for years. I just got so excited just to see it on since it had a little break. But Matt will do something else that will kill it!
That driver's seat ballast will get you every time.
High Guys,
I was just looking up in the Owners-Manual of my 280 SL, what "S" an "L" stands for:

"R" is for Reverse

"L" is for "Last" (Load, Strain; for really steep hills and mountain passes, Car won't shift no more than into 2nd Gear)
Matt is an idiot
E=Economy
That one looks pretty special. A great color for it, certainly in that desert colors setting.
Beautiful classic
Please don't completely get rid of one take.
Spartan Barton ?
Staggered mesh wheels.
yeah i want them

280 SLC still my most favorite car ever. I will get another one day
Absolute gorgeous car
i have a 81 280se, these cars were amazing.
I had a 83 380sl, 30k miles. Immaculate, oversteer was on another level, lol.
i love cars like this.
My 1975 230 has a s mode in the shift gate. Looked it up in the manual it means “slope” XD
I'm more than happy to see this One Take this morning... I thought you were done with One Takes :D
20 grand....bwahaha
do a street view of his address LOL
Sticky Anthrax so basically a car flipper
20 grand for a AUTO LMAOOOO
Love the SLC!! I believe the wheelbase 14 inches longer the SL version. Cool car. Cloth seats are so rare in North America.
I have a 380SLC euro specs 1981 215Hp automatic and I have driven long distances and the way they sit in curves and a nice V8 that car shines on the road. They are going up in prices due to the fact that so few of the SLC where built where as the SL version, you can get them anywhere.
It’s a nice car. It was on CL for 5000 last year and never sold. Than it was on BAT and didn’t sell. Was imported from Canada
I miss you Matt
#NoHomo.. happy new year
Don't be too hard on the guy. It's obvious he's excited. He seemed very knowledgeable and technical about the car and was passionate about cars in general. Hope he does well.
he literally said everything wrong about that car...if he doesn't know the real answer he should simply say, "not sure".
Matt Whitmire what did he say wrong, but Matt didn't say anything wasn't true.
Hows the dash cam at night tho
Is the charging cord to the cig lighter adequately long enough?
I just got this thing on samcrack's recommendation. Feels like an Apple product in quality if that tells you anything.
That on some bags....
The "S" in transmission engages 2nd gear for starting off in slippery conditions or holding it in gear for downhill driving. The "L" engages 1st gear. Those were very well sorted cars, they just need a looser torque converter and obviously 4 gears instead of 3.

Nice Ride these old school Benz are amazing 🎉
Thanks for sharing Matt :-). Ps In Europe there was a 450 SLC with a 5.0 liter engine in the last years.
Matt, Shifter S position is definitely not sport mode. Its for snow driving and hill descent because it holds you in different gears
Damn Matt quit talking over your guest LMAO 😂😂😂. I had to rewind 3 times.
Was there a 500? YES! In Europe we got a 450SLC 5,0 from 78 on. Quite rare cars, because a lot died for spareparts to keep the SL´s alive....
Those are some big shades.
Got to love old Benz great video Matt
Stunning vehicle.
Car slash LHD JDM V8 nature of it is refreshing and compelling. Dealership not posting a price is less so. Guy's okay. He's not portraying himself as a Benz expert and he lets Matt guide stuff.
WOW. First R107 I thought looked good.
777k subscribers .. Keep it up Matt! I hope you double your viewers in 18’ .. keep the good content rolling!
The 560SEC is where it’s at Matt. Review one you won’t regret it
What a beauty!!
Cool car and nice GMT Master!
Nice car, I've always loved the look as long as it has the right stance, most of them always sit too high but overall I'd rock it all day long.
I hate it when Matt has a too talkative passenger. It"s the car we are interested in not you.
How was this guy talkative? Especially for someone trying to sell the car, he was definitely one of the quietest
Eh, it depends on the car. On something stock like this I'd agree, but if it was something somebody built from the ground up (like the no-fucks-given-rx7), I wanna hear the passenger talk a lot about it.
salesmen are irritating af
Your advert made me press pause, the comments made me watch the video
On these automatics, S doesn't mean "sport" but it means "slope" and L means "low". By the way, i have a 350 SLC (euro)
happy new year bud! Been a while since ive seen your posts. Glad your still busy brother. Cheers.
You have to love a V8 that has no power.
SLs and SLCs the only people that bought those cars were wealthy people MBs goal was to make it a cruiser
That's a Gorgeous Merc!
Morning Squad I know you're out there =p
The license plate is HUTTON! Love it and you’re so mysterious and enigmatic. Miss Liz, are you the secret grandchild of Barbara Hutton and Cart Grant? I thought so!
123,000 km is 76,000 miles on the car (for those who don't know, just multiply kilometers by .62 to get miles).
Beautiful car
Damn that's beautiful
Mercedes benz did sell a 500SLC it was a homologation special they built 2,769 of them as well as the 5 litre V8 they also had aluminium bonnet and trunk also the wheel base on a C107 is 360mm longer than a R107 so a little more than the 100 mm the salesman mentioned also this car being a 1981 should have a 4 speed auto transmission but you wouldn't notice it as to get them to engage first gear you have to force it to choose 1st by putting the care in L and giving the car full throttle from a standstill
4-speed for sure, they have the granny gear gearing. you have to stomp on the gas from stop or start in L
Nice. Great color.
Gorgeous Car.
All the reviews hating on the guy for talking loud. I think we all know if you want to say something with Matt in the car you better speak up.
God damn thats a badass car
Yes, they made the Mercedes 450 SLC 5.0 in the last years of production with 240 hp
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_R107_and_C107
Great color! That being said funny how the same car couldn't even meet reserve at less than $7000 on Bring A Trailer in 2016 and now this guy wants $20k.
The Rallye versions were only 500 SLCs with the alloy block engine with 370hp on the dyno.
LOL.. finally, a product endorsement I can actually use.. Good Job Matt.. also, nice car.
Building one of these right now with a 4.6 swap.
Sick find!
You can sit people in the back of an SLC. I know because I sat in the back in one. The plush seats made me forget the abysmally low amount of legroom.
Always a cool car.
You had 450 SLC 5.0 in us. In Europe it was called 500 SLC with 5 litre alloy V8 and 4speed auto You should get the euro one that has more power.
Beautiful design...ruined a bit by the bods; still lovin this.
The American "3.8" was the same V8 in 1982, just a detuned, emissions-friendly version. They actually made these with a 4-speed manual, too... I got to drive one (a 450SLC) that was completely fucking trashed a long time ago, but it was cool.

Matt getting SO much mileage out of loggate.
I'm ok with this
With manual swap this d be blast to drive!
Nice one take!
I have owned lotus, Ferrari, but my most favorite car was a Merc 280slc euro spec
BTW. A friend of mine has an 380-it isn´t slow. I dont know something could be wrong with this one here. The auto is following: D = Direkt, S = Steigung und L = Last (German) in English: direct, rise/uphill and load :D
Waiting for 'SARAH-N-TUNED' to appear in the comments section
Bunka Fas lol that bimbo hasn't commented yet..........I was looking for that bitchs adivertisment comment too.....
Lol, yep, how to get subs on UA-cam - Be a womanz and put your face as your picture, then comment on things ??? Profit. Haha
Bunka Fas that's what she said.
Tavarish, doug, hoovie, I can’t escape that bitch.
Sarah has a quality channel. What's the issue?
