This is not Bed Stuy...it's Clinton Hill/ Fort Greene. This was Biggie's/ Faith Evans favorite Chinese spot
Facts 💯
RIP Biggie.♥
This is the ultimate Chinese food spot. Fried chicken spicy and the works. JL I was waiting for the General So chicken. Orange chicken don't cut it. No? Hey JL where is your tray that hooks over the wheel? Lol. Looks amazing bro. Keep scarfing for us.😋😋😋♥♥🔥🔥
Word that’s a dope fact
Clinton hills
“I never had a chicken egg roll in my life”
“This is the best chicken egg roll I ever had in my life” 😂😂
IKR... Funny.
perspective. he has none. amused me too. Great part about social media. Everyone is an expert. Nobody knows anything. Yet, just like a car accident, tough to not look.
Only $2 too 😆😋
😂😂😂
Lol hard to trust people who say something is th “BEST” especially when they never tried it before lol
"I never had a chicken egg roll in my life"
Five seconds later "that's the best chicken egg roll I had in my life" 🤣
😂 Yeah I was like, wait…what😂
I haven't been back to Clinton Hill in 15 years but it was definitely one of the best Chinese take out in Brooklyn. Just the fact that each order of hot/sour soup is made fresh from scratch and not premade in a big pot they scoop out of, tells what they are about and you can taste the difference.
Word da muva! 💯 I'm grew up on that place I'm from LG! RIGHT around the corner
I wonder if y'all remember a spot in the area called Tthe Crab Inn!
On the straw tip, as of November 1, 2021, New York City food service establishments may no longer provide single-use plastic beverage straws, except upon request. Kum Kau just keepin' it legal!
I was looking for this comment, cuz it's facts!
right, I was going to say that. it's like that in Jersey too.
But they can serve your food in bid non compostable plastic containers????
@@kdogg82 in NYC those go into recycling. And alot of people repurpose those containers. Also you gotta start somewhere see what works what doesnt. Not everything makes sense but limiting straws is a good start. I have tons of un used straws from take out. I get why they did this.
Its the Same in New Jersey.
Kum Kau used to be the spot. Was the only Chinese Restaurant that put eggs in the fried rice. It was still good when I left NY years ago. Used to have to call ahead it used to be so packed!!
Man damn near every Chinese spot in nyc taste the same. Y’all funny for even claiming a certain spot. Muhfuckas eat from 5 Chinese spots in there neighborhood they whole life and be like “so n so the best in the city hands down “ 😂
Back in the 80s and mid nineties, The wo hop in Harlem used to put egg in the fried rice.
Yup you’re so right the eggs made the fried rice so much better and stood out from the rest
it's actually Mexicans that make the food. the Chinese owners use a remote camera to monitor from California
@@taylort5219 wait a minute, you Americans dont get egg fried rice? egg fried rice is standard in the uk
I was eating there since the '80s. Lived around the corner between Park and Flushing. At one point, they had all 3 adjoining storefronts (for a large sit-down area). If you go there, try the Salted Baked Shrimp w/ General Tso sauce on the side for dipping. Didn't have time to do both when I was there a couple of weeks ago, so Farmer in the Deli won that trip. This video making me feel like another run-up this weekend!!! Kim Kau, Farmer in the Deli and Madina for oils... the Big 3.
Kum Kau has a children's book written about it. Still legendary. General Tso chicken is go to and so is the beef and broccoli. Live in ATL now but always hit that spot when I come home.
That wing and fried rice dish looked off the chart, those golden brown wings with the yellow rice and green scallions had my mouth watering, i could almost tast and smell it, ALMOST.
Ikr that looked delicious 🤤❤️
Im from brooklyn but moved to another state couple years ago this was biggie smalls favourite chinese food. These guys are legendary u didnt miss a beat anytime im back there i gotta stop by
I saw Faith Evans and Mary J. Blige and other celebrities come outta KUM KAU.
Me too hey my BK brother
Sure it was. Where’s your proof? BTW it’s spelled “favorite” Troll just starting rumors, trying to be “cool on UA-cam”
@@nextlevel5828 sure you did.
pretty sure every restaurant in the world was biggies favorite
Back in the 90's , this was my favorite spot .
It’s crazy to see this place still getting love. Been going here since I was a kid.
General tsao chicken and fried rice is amazing here for sure
Hey if anyone ever wants to try great heroes / hoagies a few blocks down from Kum kau is a deli called “farmer in the deli” they made the best sandwiches idk if they still do but people used to come from all over, different cities and all just to try their sandwiches… and this was prior to 2005
Yep they still do! Always a long line
Yup, Farmer in the Deli is still doing their thing!
He just did a video on that place. 😊
@@christinalafleur3813 I saw lol 😂 crazy I was not expecting it.
You are so chill and so excited when doing your reviews. It is a very nice style to watch
😂😂 JL you’re inhaling tf out that food you almost choked lmao
Naw, it was that pepper he ate that got him.
Well, it's good to know that his first and only chicken eggroll happens to be the best one he's ever had in his life. Batting 1000%.
I live in Queens, NY and I travel to Bklyn to Kum Kau's for Chinese food quite often 😋
I'm in my 50s KUM KAU has been there since I was a kid. That's the first place I go whenever I go back home.
The movie he was talking about was 'LIFE' lmao 😅😅😂
The situation with lil hood Chinese restaurants is that the owners & cooks keep coming & going every 5 years or so after they pay their debts for coming into the U.S. So that's rare & actually amazing that this certain location maintains their quality so high.
Just a piss off when u spend 100 bucks almost on food n it's trash. Chinese food ain't cheap
The family run spots keep the quality high but they are rare these days. If the owners were from Hong Kong then expect some crazy good food. The newly arriving Chinese from the mainland can’t duplicate that.
That beef chow fun looks incredible 😭😋
I grew up on Kum Kau. It changed with ownership. It's not that great these days. Back in the day, it was the spot (mid-80's early 90's). I guess, currently, they're slightly better than most "Chinese" takeouts.
I sadly must agree. I hope they can get back to what they once were
💯
Yoooo @jljupitertv don’t leave yet !! You gotta go try HARDEE’s Chinese restaurant a couple blocks up on Myrtle Ave , it’s Hood AF & Good AF 😂
I never tried that Hardee's but I tried the one on troop and Dekalb
Yeah, my boiii Ricky be going to town on his menu's. He owns a Hardee's in the ville
Hell yeah
Kum Kau is legendary. I am so shocked you are there LOL. Kum Kau does so many thing right. The Salt Pepper Shrimp is soooo amazing. Im going today! you sold me. I need this. Next door was the sit in side but I think after the pandemic that changed.
Bruh that quote is from the movie LIFE 😂 Eddie Murphy was funny asf. Welcome too Ray's boom boom room lol
Spreading love the Brooklyn way. I'm glad you enjoyed my neighborhood spot 💯💪🏿
I grew up in Brooklyn. That’s the best Chinese food in Brooklyn. No debate.
No debate.
Myrtle Ave and Washington would be my weekend destination when I lived in Brooklyn. Man the shrimp fried rice was sooo good 😊😊😊
This right here
Not anymore
@@dpacino6830 where it at then? What's the new spot?
"My man pushing down a bbq grill" 🤣
Wow just seeing that sign brings back so many memories! Fort Greene Brooklyn.. If you ever wanna get one of the best cold cut sandwiches 'Farmer in the Deli' it's just down the road you won't regret it
Been going to Kum Kau before it was Kum Kau (it used to be a pet store). There's a book, "Big Jimmy's Kum Kau Chinese Take Out" by Ted Lewin. He used to live down the hall from me. Kum Kau became known not just for the food but the portions as well. And it's not in Bed-Stuy, it's in Clinton Hill.
Lowkey, big jimmy’s kum Kau Chinese takeout is a lit af children’s book. His wife Betsy also did some of the illustration.
One of the goated local children’s authors and a pratt alumnus.
@@edenstern-rodriguez604 My brother is in two books he wrote. My mother has some original artwork of hers.
Fort Greene actually * That area is fort Greene right by the highway and next to navy yard
@@souelyoung2233 i thought Fort Greene started in the middle of Vanderbilt Ave and extended down to the navy yard as you said. I thought Washington (where kum kau is) would be Clinton hill.
@@souelyoung2233 The dividing line is Clinton Avenue, which is two blocks away. However, when I was growing up, depending on what happened it would be either Fort Greene/Bed-Stuy or Clinton Hill. If it was good, it was Clinton Hill. If it was bad, Fort Greene or Bed-Stuy. Now, with gentrification and real estate agents twisting narratives to fit their agendas, lines are extremely blurred.
Lived on Clifton Place in the heart of Bed Stuy early 2000's and ate Kum Kau religiously. It was head and shoulders above other Brooklyn Chinese spots, I fell in love with General Tso's Shrimp there. Great review JL!
Legendary spot 🔥sidenote: this is really clinton hill
Over 40yrs eating there! They use to have a eat in spot there with a giant fish tank and exotic fish was awesome. 😇💜❤
Oh man. I'm craving Chinese so hard right now, I FELT that egg roll crunch & the wing too!!
Our little local take-out has been closed for about 2 weeks & I'm hoping the old guy just went on a well deserved vacay& nothing bad happened. 💚
Oh snap ✊🏽 that Clinton hills your a few blocks always from me. 👍🏽
Happy New Years to you and your Lovely Wife and Family. Thanks for your Awesome Channel. From Jacksonville Florida
GO JAGS!!!!
This is my first time seeing your channel. I watched this video because I have been loving Chinese food lately, completely satisfied.
I 100% agree with the level of comfort that Chinese cuisine provides a weary traveler.
Bon soir
I remember subbing to JL at 25k subs after watching him say grace before eating with his wife. Fan for life after that. Keep being amazing JL!
This is what it's about - the mom and pop / local joint with the fire Chinese food. I have a spot that has chicken and shrimp egg rolls and I gotta get an extra order sometimes 😂I'll also judge a joint on some beef chow fun, too. If they don't offer it, it's a no go. If they do, it's gotta be good.
I'll never understand people that stan Panda Express when there's local spots far better, cheaper, and give you a ton of food. Thanks for sharing! I think I gotta order some Chinese today 🥡
To be fair, some people just don't know any better especially when they live in areas where the local Chinese restaurants aren't the best quality you know
@@user-zlxelaZz what are your top 25 Chinese Restaurants, and why? Serious questions because I want to try them. The ones close to me on Long Island are not that great. I drive past Kum Kau restaurant numerous times but never thought to try it.
We got Panda Express twice & never ever again.
It was beyond nasty. & We only got it twice bc we thought the first time had to be a mistake it was so terrible LOL!!
Soy wings at Snyders is amazing
Thanks for bringing us along, I’m definitely going to give it a try!! I love ur channel. ❤Newark Jersey ❤
JL love your show, you always keeping us on the up and up at the food spots!
in elementary school, we didn't have pizza parties; teachers would order from kum kau for end of year celebrations, i miss it soooo much!
only thing, this isn't bed-stuy though, more like fort greene/clinton hill but i'm glad you put a spotlight on this gem!
I was about to comment the same thing about the area being in Clinton Hill cause Fort Greene is only a couple blocks away close to Downtown Brooklyn.
Clinton Hill.
Say thts a proper end of the school year party not tht pizza and soda crap. Ya lucky. .i love Chinese food
Some of the workers dropped in the special kum kau sauce!
Very much downtown bk
80s throughout the early 2000s that place was the best Chinese food in Brooklyn as time went on the quality and customer service fell off. Honorable mention to Synder's on Utica and synder ave, people will be pleased when you show up with those chicken wings.
Everything looked so delicious! I'm a fan of Chinese food ❤️ I could eat it anytime, anyday! Breakfast lunch or dinner 🍽️❤️🙏 you the first one I seen eat wing tips! I said oh ☝️okayyyy! 🤭 Tore that lil wing tip up didn't you. I had the chance to visit the Bronx back in 2008. I'll never forget the trips I made from NC to NY. I use to stop at Kennedy's fried chicken spots, I can't remember the street I was on right off but I will say this, I remember the wings and the sweet tata pies they had! My very first time eating at a Dunkin donuts was in NY and I'll never forget that. Even though they are everywhere now, us southerners just don't eat at Dunkin like that but anyways thank you JL Jupiter for the hook up and the love and dedication you propose sir! We the people appreciate your content! ❤️💯 Much love fr the Carolinas baby 😘🫶🫶🫶
Many blessings to you Mr. Jupiter, it's always good to see you introducing us to another fine restaurant! 👍🏼🤗
We got chicken egg rolls in Oakland, Ca. Most Chinese restaurants make chicken egg rolls , when they set up shop in black hoods, they cook and modify their menu according to what’s going to sell in that particular hood. None of it is original authentic Chinese food anyway, it’s all americanized.
Watching this as I'm eating my homecooked turmeric/safran jasmine rice and Chicken Tikka masala with extra cream and butter :P
i purchased some very exspensive saffron and don't know what to make first with it...hmmm.
Kum Kau always hits the spot. Really good description of how the food taste. I would have called it the same way. They never disappoint!!! And the people who work there are always super cool.
NYC Chinese is The Best!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉 I’ve never had it as Good anywhere between Bmore & NYC🍎
That looks like the best Chinese food I've ever seen omgoodness you made me hungry glad I'm cooking lima beans with ham . Rice . Mac and cheese . Baked chicken. hot wings. And yams can't wait to get it done
Nothing absolutely nothing like NYC Chinese food. I can smell it thru the fone yo lol
Nice vid✌️
SF Chinese Food
I love so much when you do videos by yourself or with wifey!!! Those are always the best!!! Let the others you've uplifted do they're own thing and don't be grinding off of your coattails!!!
Another great food video! JL Jupiter keeping it real.
General TSO on white rice you can't go wrong
Happy new year JL. I'm from Brooklyn that was the joint. Real talk bro.
I used to go here as a kid on school trips for the buffets and food was banging. You could sit down in there and just enjoy the food. Also, I pass by it everyday and I want to go back and try it because of this video, thank you ‼️
The movie is LIFE! Food looks delicious.
Happy New Year JL Jupiter! Beautiful Presentation! Everything looks mouth watering.......Yes I am watching this on an empty stomach......Im about to dip to my local Chinese spot! Very nice my friend...... Infinite Blessings to both you, your wife and family
Should have walked up a few more blocks to Hardee’s both spots are good
Legendary spot‼️..salute to JL on this one
That is correct. This is one block from the house I grew up in on Willoughby Avenue. This is Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, where Biggie grew up, where the jazz legend Wynton Marsalis and Gang Starr lived (DJ Premier and Guru), Lawrence Fishburne, among others. Kum Kau has been official since I was going there back in 1981 (over 40 years)...who knew they would last this long!!
Props to you J for coming this far to try 1 if not the best Chinese fast food spots in Brooklyn they been there for many many years! You are also right the attached storefront next to it was also their sit in Restaurant so fast food to the left on the corner and Restaurant to the right. All the Best J keep leading us to the spots.✌️
Chicken egg rolls sound amazing!! 😍😋
Use to live around the corner from there & that was yrs ago the fact that they are still there speaks volumes i Love that place!
I'm from Yonkers, so for me if they have homemade iced tea and lemonade that to me is a legit spot.
JL you represent cultures in a very great way! Appreciate you and your content sir!!!
Looks delicious. Nice review. Thanks and take care.
Real cool videos I love the Vlog style with the food and you keep it moving at a fast pace great content!
After watching this I think I'm gonna have to run to the local Chinese, hopefully it'll be half as good as what I'm looking 👀 at here! Great work there JL!!!
Hey guys 😁👋🏽 hope everyone is having a blessed day. I'm a big JL fan as well. He inspired to start my foodie channel. I hope you check me out and subscribe as well. Thanks 😊
That's Junior Mafia's favorite Chinese spot.
Ok Kum Kau started as a single level storefront in late 70s then built the 2 story building was built, rumored some family or workers lived upstairs. Kum Kau is actually in FORT GREEN or lower Clinton Hill right outside the line of Bedford Stuyvesant
I'm in Brooklyn now, might have to swing by there after I go get that oxtail pizza
Oxtail Pizza? Where Dat at?
@@takeshawilliams9011 place called cuts and slices in brooklyn

Oxtail pizza and Chinee fuu??? You making moves playa??? What that bev looking like tho?

Yoooo JL you Gotta Go down Myrtle Ave and get a Sandwich from Farmer on the Deli ,, Best sandwich in Brooklyn
Dang I wish I saw this last week I was just there I'm subscribed so I wont miss this awesome channel . Thanks JL for all you do
Welcome to my neighborhood JL 😄 Kum Kau is actually in Fort Greene, Bed Stuy is further down. Live in the Atlanta area now but me and Kum Kau go way way back. My grandmother use to live around the corner so I grew up eating Kum Kau. Enjoy!!!!
Kum Kau had a great reputation several years ago. They were very popular. In my opinion, the quality has gone way down over the years.
Me, my friends, and associates don't go there anymore.
Smh I watched this on an empty stomach 😪... Good Content my brother
Nutreez with Mizz the Grizz anf and Pryme Mega😁
"don't watch this on a empty stomach"😂😂..my boi every time I watch your channel for sure I have something to grub on😂😂
That food looked awesome. Love the video, New subscriber🤎🤎
Like what you said about the Chow Fun. That's always been my main go to for take out, especially on a cold winter's day or night. If they can do the basic comfort foods right, then you know everything else there is gonna be good, but why pay more for the fancy stuff on the "chef's specials" when the simple stuff is all you need.
The chicken crunch was awesome made me hungry again 🍗🥘
Mmmm I’m in the mood for an egg roll. 😊
California has chicken, pork and veggie egg rolls. We have sweet & sour sauce which taste like duck sauce. I had duck sauce in Indiana with my cousins. I like them both
Kum Kay is legendary! 🔥🔥🔥 Catered lots of my Netflix & chill nights when I didn’t want to go to the city! Dope spot, good food.
Wow back to back videos! I'm loving this and i had Chinese so I'm ready lol
Wait you never heard of chicken egg rolls
I was about to say he gangsta for eating that pepper straight like that lolol
Like the food review videos. Chinese food is so good up north.
grew up in LG right up the street.. This is definitely world renowned goodness!
You make this meal look and sound yummy scrummy. We favourite takeaway food A+
I always keep straws in the glove compartment along with plastic utensils and also always have paper towels and hand sanitizer
Same or in a bag in my truck with wiped for these occasions
You just need that period with C-19 still out in full effect.
JLJUPITER u have done it again..Another nice place to eat..Peace and Blessings and Happiness to you and your family and friends 😁
Chinese take out is the best. I crave for this almost everyday.
Dude was literally pushing a grill I’m weak🤣🤣🤣
All I ever ate back at Pratt for cheap eats 🤣🤣🤣 Bar none the best. My order was half chicken with spicy beef fried rice. with lots of hot oil on the side. As a joke my colleagues would call it Kau Kum lol
In the Bronx there’s a Chinese spot that they are Chinese an cuban The food is fuego 🔥✊🏾💯✊🏾
What's the name of it?
Where @? Someone said on Treemont Ave
JL the food looks delicious and well prepared. And yes I could taste the food thru tv. Thank u Cooks🤗
Thanks for coming through....
Truesign a place is a legit Chinese place is if there’s actually filled up with Chinese/asian customers
Damn JL you be everywhere bro! Next time you over there try SoCo Brooklyn and Thai 101. They're both on Myrtle near Washington too.
Been to Kum Kau many times back in the day. You're spot on....not only excellent hood Chinese food, just excellent Chinese food....period.
I loveee that spot. Been going since i was a kid ! Me and my family and friends used to dine in. When they had a bigggg restaurant to sit in (rt next door) back in the day! 🥰
