Man I'm so happy to see you being successful at this process, pushing 7k subs after a few months is pretty impressive, and you've barely had to show any skin at all... I'm wondering what it'll be like in another year when you might not be able to keep up with 10s of thousands of subs and thousands of comments for each vid, it does feel nice to be sub #550ish and watch you grow. Ok, enough ego stroking or whatever, bromance on hold, for now...
So I got a pair of these maybe 6 months ago for about $330, liked them alot so I also picked up the matching center channel for about $165, definitely worth every penny but with a few nit picks. Just like you I think they could be a bit better in some areas, and sometimes they're almost too good because they do seem to show every mistake in the mix or the harshness of a crappy recording. They definitely have their good moments when I hear and feel parts of familiar songs that I haven't really heard before. Lately I've only had my halfway decent onkyo reciever to power these (1st world problems) but in a few days I'll have my sprout amp from ps audio and we'll see what they can really do, can't wait!

Nice and I appreciate the kind words. The comments are getting tough to keep up with even now. I really love reading and answering each one right now and it will be kind of sad when I can't keep up with them and still put out content... you noticed I didn't say "good" content...

Ya I almost want to apply for an internship or something to help out, lol, really questioning alot this year but I don't think that'd workout too well. If I could just win the lottery or something instead of having to work a regular job for decent pay and do regular average people stuff all the time, man it's tough (kidding of course, kinda)

Got these a few months back, and would have to agree with your assessment. This line of Jamos have always flown under the radar and I don't understand why. They deserve the highest of praise. The clarity and instrument separation is unreal. The thing is to wait a bit after Jamo first releases a line of speakers, because their price usually drops at least $200 about 6 months after... then sells out.
I got these for $380, originally around $600 or so? Saw them get as low as $315, just insane.
Love your review style. Keep it going!

Awesome review! I have the OG c93s and I have been enjoying them for close to 3yrs. I have no thoughts of upgrading. The mkii you describe sound very close to the original. My favorite aspect of them is the imaging/Soundstage and also the looks of the speaker. They've been a real pleasure. I also got mine on sale for $239. Absolute steal!
Just found your channel this week and have really enjoyed your style and dry humor. Very good stuff. Also like your interpretations and your song test selection. I'm in my early 40s so I can relate to your musical sensibilities. Keep it up man!

I just got these speakers at a steal price from Crutchfield and paired them with an NAD C368 integrated amp. They sound, for the price, incredible! When I first hooked them up and ran my goto song to hear them I was impressed with their separation and detail. In more than one instance I found myself thinking "wow! never heard that before!" Very, very happy with this purchase.

Still busting a gut over here Randy! The "role play" is yet another great ingredient of your tasty reviews. I'm very happy to hear your take on these good lookn' squirrel coffins. Anxious to get your thoughts strictly on the bass of these compared to the Jamo S 805's... thanks again for your educational, hysterical, and overall wonderful insight. What a way to start the day!!! :) Hugs n' Handshakes

    • @cheapaudioman
      @cheapaudioman  3 роки тому +5

These are way more refined than the 805's and depending on placement you can get similar bass out of them. Actually the 93's are rated lower. This is definitely a next level speaker over the 805's. 93's more exciting on top.

  • @nc3419
    @nc3419 3 роки тому +11

Just hooked up these puppies to my amp. Initial impressions are generally favorable with some caveats but still too early for definitive analysis (my POV anyway). What stands out with these speakers is they are very detailed and with commensurate resolution in comparison to alot of other budget speakers. Tonality is good enough but not reference level, whatever that may mean to you. I definitely prefer these to the Wharfedale 11.2s. Generally sweet, airy higher mids to treble. Very good instrument and voice separation. Also, while reviews have given sensitivity in room lower than the stated 88db, I don't think so as they keep pace with my larger speakers rated at 92db and 88.1 anechoic. Stage is wide, tall and deep enough without instruments sounding stretched. Only wider presentation I've heard were on MA Silver 50s I had but those were too laid back for me. I want something that does well for music and movies. I listen to most everything but rap and opera.
So is everything perfect? I am trying to determine what these speakers have as to drawbacks. They are pretty much how Sean described them in his review. Exciting, revealing...seemingly everything you want in a small speaker. Smiley faced voicing which is fine as the lows reach down enough most of the time without having a midbass hump/thump/chuff... the Wharfedale 11.2 and Monitor Audio Silcer 50s I had. These do everything better than the 11.2s except perhaps, the 11.2s may have had a bit more reach in the lower bass region relative to a small bookshelf.
So, what stands out as an issue? They are definitely bright in spots, more than I am used to with Focals and my Triangles. They keep up with my Focals in most regards with the Focals having that added musicality and dynamic range I look for as I haven't enough experience with the Jamos regarding dynamic capability just yet. Thinking just a bit may be close enough but just a bit separates one tier of speaker from another. The Focals are larger, have more impact when needed and can play louder, expected as it cost more than triple.
The Triangles, I haven't done a direct comparison yet, uses a Titanium speaker and while not quite as detailed (perhaps), is still resolving and I really like its' musicality particularly for voice, piano, etc...it's definitely a visceral speaker for its' size. If I could have gotten another at the time, I would have but they were sold out (old new stock) when I was ready. The Triangles don't give me ear fatigue at all, voices are great and its' among the best in the budget category IMO (can't say if it is similar sounding to the Borea series). The Focals, while also mostly smooth, get brighter, more energetic than the Triangles but I still don't notice hearing fatigue, at least that affects me over time. With the Jamos, I kind of strain at certain passages more so than I would with the Focals. It could be I'm not used to it, or that the increasing top end is affecting me, or it has trouble with certain passages when there is lots going on.
I wouldn't have thought it would have affected me that much as I don't hear well past 13K Hz (Salad days behind me) but I do well enough under that. With a dip between 9 to 10 KH, I thought they would be fine. I have alot more music and soundtracks to listen to. I think these are fine for movies, perhaps a warmer amp would make the adjustment. I have a KECES E40 which I havn't tried out which is supposed to have a milder high end but a warmer midrange and strong bottom end so I'll see. A cheap class D might also work as they seem to smooth out the upper mids to the highs. Lots to unbox this month.
I think these speakers keep up with or beat most anything at their retail price and below, with the caveat concerning brightness/harshness/etc. These are lively, energetic, relatively visceral at times which is what I look for in a speaker.
Build quality, is good enough and it is definitely budget so don't expect to get more for the price point. In black, they are unobtrusive, rather pain looking with no branding from the front view. Seemingly well braced and inert from knuckle wrap on side.
The thing that bothers me about this as well as all other budget standmounts I've tried is the speaker terminals, while nice enough looking, don't allow the plug to go all the way in. My Focals do, they take it "deep". How difficult is it to allow a plug to be fully inserted? Minor but irritating issue.
The biggest problem is if they may be too bright and fatiguing over time, which is what I need to determine. So a warmer or smoother upper mids to highs amp may balance the sound out. In comparison to what I have now, they'd be in third place as I think the tonality for voice falls just short of what I like/have. Sean at Zerofidelity stated a honkiness that some people may be sensitive to so I am wondering if that is making a difference for me?
I am being critical here, generally I really like these speakers for what they produce in SQ. In comparison, Dalis I have tried were a bit more laid back and a bit drier sounding but I liked those as well. I also like these better than budget Focal Chorus with the V woofer while producing a taller stage, distorted instruments to sound stretched, although they have the best finish of all budget speakers, as do Dalis. I like these Jamos much better than comparatively priced/budget Paradigms, Whafedales, Infinity Reference (too dry), Ascend Acoustics CBM series (detailed but too bland), Kef Q100 (Jamos are more detailed), the list goes on.
It's a really good speaker whose biggest issue is some harshness which may even lesson as they break in. It could be the harshness results from difficult passages where alot of frequencies are being produced which might indicate some spacing issues regarding multiple instruments/voices, or some honkyness from dips in the mids, I don't know for sure without spending alot more time with them.
Feel free to comment and/or include your own experience with these or its smaller sister standmount which was tempting as well as I am looking for smaller options.
Lastly, as to price, these originally retailed for about $700 (too high a price), typically sell for mid 500s (probably a realistic "retail price"), however, I think these are priced fairly at $400 and have heard these could sell as low as $329?. At that price or lower, they'd be an absolute deal. Resale, don't know. Jamo isn't a top brand name in the US, the resale market is really cheap and these don't stand out as premium looking at least in black. As in everything, we like what we like. If these are your first speakers or you aren't used to higher end products, there's alot to like about these speakers.

Great review and comparison-thanks for your feedback! I was a little more curious about the Monitor Audio Silver comparison-could you embellish some more? I already have the Jamo C95 II but have considered Monitor Audio Bronze or Silver 50 and even more so the 100. Thoughts on how your Jamos compare?
In my experience I do like the Jamo concert series but they are definitely bright which is great for low level listening but become harsh and sibilant at higher levels. Good trade off I think as I don't generally crank the volume up too much. You could also reduce the treble in your receiver settings but I generally leave flat whereas with many speakers Ill add 1-5 db. Not needed here. Only thing needed is a good subwoofer and while the Jamo is good enough for most and crushes soundbar subs dont expect it to compete with something like an SVS which costs 3-5+ times the modest $200 price tag, and looks fantatic. As far as aesthetics go the only thing as nice looking as these is Monitor Audio. Imaging is great, bass is really good above 50hz and midrange is pretty good with a slight dip in the low mids.

@@st.thomas5802 Well, I sent the Jamo 93s back as something in their sound, not that I could hear it but something grated on my nerves after 20 minutes of listening. It could be the high frequencies. I think for movies they were fine with above average resolution and detail which I liked. But for music, something wasn't quite right.
I also tried the MA Silver 50s which were also resolving and detailed but sounded small, as they are small speakers but they were alot better than the Jamo c91 which I also tried. Also tried the Bronze 50s which weren't bad for small speakers but they looked kind of cheap in construction to me. They would work as rear channel speakers which they were designed for.
As to the Bronze 100 (I didn't hear) and the Silver 100s 6G which I did try, first I will say they're nothing like the 50s. Better in every way. I did sent back but nearly kept them. In comparison to my Triangle Zetas, they were so full bodied they made the Zetas sound like a ghost in comparison. Lots of detail and resolving enough but not like my Focal 807Ws. While I initially preferred the low end to lower mids on the Silver 100s, the upper mids and highs while preferred on some music would get a bit congested. I liked their sound with some music but that congestion, or maybe having to throw everything at once into your ears vs the Focals which had nice, more separation in the upper mids and highs made me prefer them with more of the music I listen to.
The Focals have less but tighter low bass while the Silver 100s have more, fuller bass but not flabby, just not quite as fast. On movie soundtracks it could be very exciting, even overwhelming as it throws everything at you all at once. The other speakers are more nuanced but a bit less exciting. So two things, my ears would get tired alot sooner (not grating like the Jamo c93) just tired. And 2.) they aren't for late night listening. When there's boom, or a loud passage, you just can't turn them down low enough.
So overall, I still preferred my Focal 807Ws as a really good general purpose speaker, vg for movies, rock, has vg clarity and excels with jazz and classical, voices, etc. They aren't too sibilant, the little
triangles though a bit laid back, more diffuse but still well focused can be even a bit more sibilant/strident but I overlook that for all they do well. I do like the Zetas for night listening as they sound like toned down Focals to me, with a bit softer, laid back but still forward presentation, hence giving some depth to the stage. I like these much better than Borea series.
But to the Silver 100s credit, it's still a fine speaker and while they throw alot at you all at once, they surprisingly do control sibilance, even thought they are forward sounding. If I had them in isolation without comparing them to the Focals, I'd be fine with them and probably would get accustomed to their sound nature. Easy to drive as well. The new 7G seems to have included an improved dispersion for their tweeter so maybe better now, but can't say for sure. The main drivers are aluminum and I seem to generally prefer paper. The Focals and Triangle Zetas seem to have a bit deeper stage which I like, the Silvers seemed a bit flatter but nothing like Quad S2 speakers which I tried, which were exceptionally 2D. The MAs don't disappear as easily as my two speakers do, so dialing them in and room treatment would help. NOTE: MA Silver 100 are known for giving a very wide stage and these didn't disappoint.
I have been listening to my Zetas more as I now prefer a softer, yet still detailed sound. Tried Dali Menuet SE, yes I acquired a pair but while highly resolving and a nice deep stage, the Zetas also sounded larger with a nice deep stage and more detailed and musical...to me. Plus they demanded alot more of my amps. So, money doesn't always buy better overall SQ. The dalis had a bit better attack, could reach lower notes but was missing upper bass lower mid bass so sounded uneven, to me, even though a well regarded audiophile speaker. In desktop setting it would excel but so would the Zetas at a fraction of the cost.
In a nutshell, I did like the Silver 100s despite the differences, as to the Bronze 100s, they are stated to have exceptional clarity as well but can't make a direct comparison. I would expect bass to be not as defined, perhaps some other small differences between the Bronze and Silvers. Yes, the Silvers should be better and the finish is exceptional. A still nice size for a bigger speaker (the Focals are even bigger) the Silver 100 look great. If you need a full sounding speaker, they're it.
I think if you like Jamo, you won't be displeased with Monitor Audio. The Silver 100s might be overkill as rears though in price and performance. Hope that helps.

Deep Purple "Child In Time" - When I heard you describe the electronic sounds at the beginning of "More Human Than Human" It made me think of Child In Time right away.
Van Halen "Eruption" - If you like rock music this is an obvious choice to hear how speakers handle quick transient guitar sounds particularly in the mid / treble range. Sounds much better on quality speakers vs. a cheap speaker.

Outstanding review as always. If I were a man of means, I would personally buy and send you every single product that JAM-O sells. They really seem to be a cheap audio friendly company that is constantly making products that punch above their weight. And their products do look GOOD, all of them! Seriously, more JAM-O reviews please!
I've heard rumors that they are going to have a new, high-end line called JEL-O, but it's just rumors.
I don't know why, but other reviewers call these things YAW-MOES. Probably because these speakers are from Denmark, and even though the Danes speak better English than we do, they just wanted to make fun of all of us non-European English speakers by using that "J" that sounds like a "Y" in Scandanavia and Germany. Not cool. I'm sure everyone in Denmark is playing this video right now, and making fun of that dude in Texas who can't pronounce JAM-O properly. They are probably making memes about it as we speak. Well, the joke will be on them when we announce that Denmark is now the 51st state of the union.

The white speakers with black accents match the white PowerNode - looks awesome together. I noted the "male vocals" review comment and added Johnny Cash and Bill Medley to my evaluation playlist - They sound great! Female vocals are simply awesome. These speakers have great clarity. The only downside is if the recording is flat (compressed), you'll know - these speakers don't hide flawed recordings. Speakers sound very good on their own but I felt the bottom end needed to be filled out and the Jamo sub did just that. The PowerNode crossover has both a high and a low pass filter, so the bookshelves don't receive frequencies below the crossover point - the lows only go to the sub. You can't go wrong at the current pricing.

Did you use these with the stock bridge? If yes, which binding posts did you use? Danny from GR Research measured the bridge at 2.7ohms I believe so depending on which set terminals you use actually effects the tonal balance a bit as he showed. Figured it was worth mentioning as that could easily change your opinion of the speaker depending on how you hooked it up and would be worth cutting a couple of 6" speaker cables to replace the bridge to see how you think that sounds. Hopefully one of those suggestions improves the sound for you. From the looks department Jamo is killing it! I have the Paradigm Monitor Atom SEs now as computer desk speakers and I love them. I can return them to Amazon still - How much of an upgrade would these Jamo c93s be? Worth the $160 more?

That's a tough one. The paradigms are great great great. These are more refined and fantastic at low volumes. that's a tough call. I do think the Jamos are better. $160 better is up to you but I'd probably say "yes" if you had a weapon to my head.

@@tomeberhard74 I kept the Paradigms and missed the sale on the Jamos and didn't order them so didn't hear them. I still love the sound of the Atoms so I'm happy. Listen to a variety of music from 70s rock to modern to 40, classical now and then, chill, etc. Paradigms are very much like the B&W bookshelves.

I do believe the brand is pronounced "yah-moe" my good man. Sound is all that matters in the end i suppose, but some judge a speakers quality by how well the enclosure is made and the parts used in the X-over, gauge of wire ran to the drivers etc. I doubt you opened them bad boys up, but how would you rate the enclosures quality?

Cabinet is great. Lots of stuff going on with the wave guides too. There was some serious consideration and engineering put into these speakers and it's a shame they didn't do a better job of describing it on their website. At this point I only am pulling apart lower tier speakers because I don't want to mess anything up. This thing is far from a flat measuring speaker if I had to guess though and I'm sure there are higher tolerance caps and inductors that would improve the sound but I like a bit of a flavor to my speakers.

Jesus, that was a dark reference at the start. Trying to make people cry?
Used to own a pair of Pinnacle PN-8+ bookshelf speakers in early 90s. Had an 8" polypropylene woofer and, I think, and a 1" dome tweeter. They were efficient, accurate, with good bass down below 30 Hz according to Classic HiFi and Stereo Review articles. Think they ran about $379. Kinda hard to believe these new speakers, with their 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 woofers could hold a candle. But, on your recommendation, might go listen to those Elac's sometime.
Thanks for your informative and entertaining efforts.

Yeah, sorry. The family dog actually had surgery to fix a pretty badly broken leg so it was at the forefront of my mind and paying the bill was solidly in my brain as I thought of what kind of system/systems I could put together...

Josh I have almost zero experience with floor standing speakers. I’d love to be able to point you in the right direction but I just don’t have any real world experience. Jamo Concert series is probably worth a look.
