I’m two years late, but agree a lot
This tune "Nutville" is one of numerous great compositions by the legendary Jazz pianist, and one of the most prolific composers in Jazz Hi story...Horace Silver. They played it like he wrote it. So did Buddy Rich. Horace is not mentioned here and should be credited as THE creator of this music (NOT Buddy Rich who merely covered it) as well as numerous other standards. If you don't know...NOW you know!!
As Johnny Carson would say, "I did not know that! Weird, wild stuff."
I studied with Greg Hopkins at Berklee, then I went on to play with Buddy Rich as a member of his band from 1978-1981. I must say that I'm extremely impressed with this flawless performance, the very good solos from all, and the excellent work of Chris Bruya who is obviously a huge inspriation to these young players. Buddy would have loved this clip!
78 - 81 I heard and saw you live then, and yes this group of musicians are talented.
Did you play on the direct to disc recordings? Class of 78 and Mel Torme?
This jazz program is great!!
Congratulations on your win at The New Generation Jazz Festival in Monterey! What an incredibly tight group! Impressive.
That is the first thing I noticed...how tight these guys are!
Wow the solos were amazing
+ !
Excellent performance! Also very good recording quality!
Agreed, sounds great!
Been around some great musicians mostly from Indy in the 50s what a sound group the director has kept big band jazz alive I’m sure he sacrificed his own career to teach these young people to move own they seem to have the talent my late friend Dr. David Baker of IU would light up to hear this . Central Washington the University has got to be proud .
Man, this is a tight band. Difficult chart but played very cleanly. Excellent job!
what an awesome jazz program they have!
Great job! That's a hard chart to play!
That trombone solo was awesome
Nice job, fellas...One of my favorite charts. Thanks for this.
I love this song. I cannot recommend the Buddy Rich album that this appears on highly enough - The Roar of '74 is a perfect album. Simply amazing stuff, and it leads off with Buddy and his band playing a smokin' version of Nuttville!
Love the sound of the bass violin
Deeper than the fender
Nutville is such a great one :) I wish someone would do a fresh big band remake of the Johnny Quest theme song. That song swings like mad!
Amazing to hear dynamics, attacks, and releases done impeccably. Well done! That said, the lead trumpet part is a lot more challenging to play than I saw it performed in this gig. Hopefully he'll come around in time. All around, the solos were fantastic, the band's tutti sections were tight, and I ENJOYED hearing this performance.
Those are some damn good soloists!
Very well played congratulations
HELL yeah. Great job!
Outstanding performance
Wow. This performance is fantastic!! I really appreciate the attention to dynamics. So often I hear this, and the majority of it is in your face volume.
Amazing solos!
Muito bom, bons solistas, o rapas do trombone fez muito bonito tambem!!! parabens!!!
Outstanding!
Fantastic arrangement ! Love this maestro Horace Silver bebop collection ! Greetings from Jazzman Kuala Lumpur.
Wow very impressive

That's really clean. Nice.
This is the buddy rich chart.
Not quite my tempo.. ;)
Well done everyone, this is not the easiest chart in the world. Sounds great. The solos were Fabulous.
And the sound recording is great!
Great band!!
Nice work!
exceptional. not an easy chart. Doc Sevrinson orch had to learn it in one afternoon
Even those seasoned Tonight Show studio musicians were a bit challenged by Nutville. Good thing BR was driving! CWJazz group has some chops though.
Tight drummer.
APPPPLLLLLEEEEEE
I wonder if that snare has stopped ringing yet? lol
nice trumpets and soloist
The second alto player used to be my band teacher.
