  • Fallout 4 was highly anticipated in 2015 and has gone on to be a divisive game for old and new players alike. Although I didn't know it at the time, one weapon would go on to represent my feelings about the game.

The gun is pretty rare to come by on low-lvl, THE AMMO IS ABSURDLY INSANELY EXPENSIVE AND HARD TO GET, the results you get from using it are terrible and feel unfinished.
You could say so about pretty much half the guns in this game (while not even counting the numerous useless pipe-guns) god this game is boring torture without mods.

Maybe, but I think it makes sense that a syringe isn’t quite as powerful as .308 Winchester.
I don’t think every play-style someone can come up with should be as viable as every other.
Fallout already goes way out of its way to make melee and unarmed builds viable when they really shouldn’t be in a world full of guns.
I don’t think the syringer was ever meant to be a full-on play style, just a situational sidearm. It can frenzy enemies to act as a quick distraction instead of having them all gang up on you, it can pacify or paralyze aggressive people you don’t want to fight or want to sneak past.
The pacifist play style was certainly never intended to be viable, which is why every single pacifist play-through of Skyrim or Fallout 4 requires a bunch of bug exploitation and “I didn’t kill them, it was the blood loss from me whacking them with this spiked shield that killed them!”

One of the main reason(s) I always wait a few months (or a year) when a Bethesda game is released, to buy it. To see what the devs might fix/add (+DLCs), and what the modding community has and will fix/solve, by that time.
So when I started my FO4 I already had mods installed like: "unofficial patch"; "Right hand weapons" , "Everyone's best friend" and many other mods that restore cut content, or fixes the most annoying problems; one of my mods even extends the type of syringes i can craft, so I keep a striped down short syringe rifle, with a short-scope with me, all the time (pack mule build).

I feel like they missed out so many different weapons that could have been fun or useful. Pipe shotguns for instance, it's literally the most common improvised firearm there is IRL. Grenade launchers: You could have had a Pipe Cannon that converted hand grenades into launched grenades with a blank round (longer range with bigger bullets: 38 gets you short but better than a throw, 45 is medium, but 308 hurls it. Actual rifle grenades if the attachments worked a little different (maybe letting you hotkey a secondary weapon on some longer guns like underslung shotguns etc) and true grenade launchers. One shot rockets/missiles that are maybe lighter than carrying a full launcher but less potent. And the Syringer? It could have been bolted onto other weapons and used as a secondary fire somehow.

  • @wilomica

There is one and only one syringe that works reliably. The bloatfly larva syringe. You have to spend a lot of time killing bloat fly to make it work. But it always works (if you hit the target and it dies later). It's used because sometimes it spawns legendarys.
My phrase I say about F4: "Mod it". For every complaint you have about it there's a mod for it. Some of them even work until an update changes a line of code and you have to find a new mod to fix the same problem. Sometimes mod authors update their mods but you can't depend on that.
Anyway sooner or later I get a lot of larva syringes and hunt legendary drop locations so even with a mod free run I want one warts & all.

Single action is most commonly associated with revolvers and pistols in that to fire the gun you must cock the hammer each time you pull the trigger. All of the traditional rifles in fallout 4 will fall into one of three types, bolt action, lever action or automatic with the subcategory of being semi automatic or fully automatic. You could also make Chem Rounds for the same purpose. You're in a fight, you use melee, you're surrounded, your buddy sees a Super Mutant Suicider coming from your blind side, hits you with a shot of Jet to slow time so you can accurately assess the threats. Reload animations not aligned correctly with how many bullets you have (lever action especially) silly mass effect style dialogue wheel. It very quickly went from my most exciting new prospect to a dismal failure that left me feeling alienated from the gameplay I expected.

When I first found the Syringer, I immediately thought it was going to be one of those "dumb little weapons" that are incredibly powerful in niche situations. Stuff like the Dart Gun in Fallout 3, along with the Pulse and Flare Guns in Fallout: New Vegas. Needless to say, I was disappointed, especially seeing as crafting the ammo is super inconvenient.

I had this same experience when I rolled up a Gamma Gun build one time. Even with a perfectly optimized build and even with the upgrade that lets it also do energy damage, at best it was still just 'decent'. I could blast radscorpions and other creatures in 2 shots, or even a deathclaw in about 8, which is great, but I wasn't able to do it until about level 30. Other builds would cream radscorpions and even deathclaws at that point. And what did I have to show for it? A bit of extra effectiveness against human enemies, probably the easiest enemy type in the game?

Syringer in Fallout 4 is honestly bad, because there's no level scaling to the effects.
15 damage per second bleed could be cute on a level 1 molerat, or one of the very basic raiders in the tutorial. - But it doesn't scale beyond that. - Plus it doesn't feel like it stacks the same way bleeds do from legendary effects.
This could've easily been remedied if the Chemist perk let you craft more complicated syringes, instead of giving effects that would have the perk be more aptly named "drug junkie", rather than "chemist". - Like being able to use dirty water and glowing fungus to make a syringe that dealt radiation damage per second. - Or use batteries and fertilizer to make corrosive syringes, or rad scorpion pincers to make poison syringes.
Bloat fly syringes could've been awesome if it didn't require the target to die before it took effect, and instead had a 10 second timer before the small bloat flies burst from the target dealing a sudden burst of damage as that happened. Modifications could include things like multiple barrels, larger gas tank, different types of scopes, maybe even an "advanced" variant of the gun being a tranquilizer dart gun you'd find at like a zoo or a prison. - Kinda like upgrading from a pipe rifle to a hunting rifle.
Or even debuff syringes that scale up in potency, the same way you have different tiers to illusion spells in Skyrim. - Which, let's be real.. The only reason the syringer is in Fallout is so they could inject (heh) the code of some illusion spells into some sort of gun and maybe one or two grenades but then realized nobody's gonna want to bother, because it sucks, so they didn't invest the effort to make it not suck. - Most folks playing Skyrim and Oblivion most likely didn't touch illusion at all until they were way past their main playthrough and into the "let's fuck around with random game mechanics" territory, because throwing around fireballs or shooting mini-nuked respectively are both more fun and efficient ways to play their respective games than shooting a little hypnosis and watching two mobs wail at each other with the damage output of a wet noodle, the armor and health bars of absolute bullet sponges, and the accuracy of drunken storm troopers with their helmet visors fogged up and their guns drowned in dust.
So all that's left is the skeleton of a work-in-progress system of "having fun within the game without actually playing the game" that nobody deemed worth the effort to actually flesh out in any relevant way, and evidently didn't even pay enough attention to it to realize it's pointless, because if they did, they'd have removed it from the game entirely to gain that 0.05% increase in performance on consoles.

    1. Killing enemy
    2.killing bloatfly
    3. Crafting the meat(bonus meat from wasteland survival guide that doubles meat)
Early game this is valuable especially if you go Medford for one or plumbers secret.

One syringe that could of saved the weapon outright is to cripple or at least reduce the leg health to 1 so it would be like the Dart gun from Fallout 3 which made taking on Deathclaws a menial task although your companions still would allow them to get in close as they didn't keep their distance.
The other 2 weapons that got absolutely ganked was the Minigun and the Laser musket, 1 just doesn't scale well damage wise and ammo is a bit hard to keep up with the demand while the laser musket is pretty much redundant by any gun that's outfitted with a scope.

1st and most important, my thanks and respect go out to Modders, I was glad to make videos highlighting their work. 2nd, the vanilla Syringer sucks because there is a very low level cap (30 I believe) on the enemies that can even be affected. If that wasn't the case, using a beserk syringe at Gunner's Plaza, Quincy or trapper strongholds in Far Harbor would be worthwhile.

When you kill a high level enemy, especially a legendary enemy, after hitting it with a bloatfly round, it has a good chance to spawn a legendary bloatfly, making legendary farming easier on survival, or just for standard if you want to cycle through a bunch of legendary effects to tee up the one you're after. Looking at you explosive shotgun\minigun.

My example of this is the raider mourning at a grave. There's a raider in the open grave and the living one is kneeling next to it...
And the first time I came across that I approached and I could get pretty close, which had me thinking this was -- after all the raider bases with terminal entries and all the same goons to fight -- finally a raider I could interact with in some fashion. Like not only was this different but given everything about how the raiders are depicted one of them burying a comrade in arms and being by the grave? Strange!
...and then the raider gets up and goes aggro and the only way I could interact was by shooting them.
And that was when I stopped playing the game for quite awhile, just sporadically testing mods here and there for friends. I only really picked it up again when Kinggath's Sim Settlements mod first released.

I see the Syringer differently, like you’re a wizard with some crowd control spells. It’s like skyrim, where you spec into a school of spells; you don’t get it all. Your weapons are the “destruction” school. I understand your desire for it to be all-purpose. Around which a build and entire roleplay develops. I don’t think modders are picking up the slack, in this regard, but giving you what you want. It’s ok that Fo4 made it a niche weapon. There’s several examples of that, like Basher. Even when souped-up, is still niche.

And you are about to explain it to me.
    Let's go

  • @GoTorino
    @GoTorino Рік тому

The issue I had with it, is that it never quite... worked? I wanted to steal/pickpocket fusion cores from raider bosses in power armor. My Sneak perk wasn't fully realized, which would make a rational person think that one could sneak closer and closer to an enemy before being detected, as you filled the stars of the perk... Right? Only issue is, until I had maxed out the perk, if I was within twenty feet of an enemy (without ANY clothes or armor), even leaning in any direction would alert them!
I thought I could circumvent this issue with The Syringer, with the mind-cloud syringe or the "won't notice you" syringe, whatever their names are... But hitting the enemy with ANY syringe just instantly alerted them to your presence, like any other action. So, obviously, I never touched it again, and sell every one I get.
The real kicker is, once I maxed the Sneak perk, I can do almost anything near an enemy, even just in their periphery, and they are oblivious. So, needless to say, I have almost 2,000 fusion cores, and I use the stolen suits to build sprawling fences around my settlements AND elsewhere in the world to stop or redirect attackers from key positions. I have 454 suits just at The Castle, and I'm almost finished with a complete Atom Cats Garage defensive perimeter.
In short, why is Sneak WORTHLESS until maxed, and Syringer WORTHLESS indefinitely?

How hard is it to create an effect in which you simple make the enemies unconscious without killing them? Putting them to sleep etc... considering the type of game Fallout is and everything thats been so far it really is silly how it doesnt have an alternative to simply killing everything, a very simple alternative at that, which would be to KO enemies in this case with the perfect object for it, a poisonous weapon
