Though I'm Canadian, I'm a Route 66 SUPERFAN! I've traveled much of it at one time or another and photographed so much of the unique parts of it!!! It's truly an important part of Americana.
The American writer John Steinbeck called Route 66 “the Mother Road” as it took many jobless of the Great Depression (1930’s) to the promised land of California. Steinbeck wrote a great novel called The Grapes of Wrath of people fleeing the Dust Bowl of Oklahoma while using Route 66.
Written by Bobby Troup. Husband of Julie London. Both he and she played in the show Emergency. There was an occasional crossover between that show and Adam-12. One of actors in the Route 66 TV show was Martin Millner who was one of the stars in Adam-12.
@@davidneel8327 My grandmother knew Bobby Troup, she worked at his family's music store when she was young. She made sure to tell me that every time Emergency came on.
Dippin dots freak me out it's like they shouldn't exist, but I love them for some reason. Culver's Butter Burger is awesome. I'm glad you're having an awesome time here in the USA.
And all of those old trinkets at the Litchfield Museum are a hot commodity here in the antique trade market. Everyone wants to get a piece of historic USA, in our own country. There are TV programs here dedicated to guys and gals driving all over the states with tips on where to find garages and storehouses loaded with old dusty antiques that they rummage through and make offers to owners. The stuff they find sometimes is amazing.
I grew up in Illinois and you passed very near to where I am from. I spent a lot of time in Livingston, Mount Olive, and Litchfield! I have to say though, you missed an important place in Springfield. If you go to Springfield on Old Route 66, you really should have stopped at Cozy Dog. It's a very historic stop on the route.
Marie, when you were visiting Arizona and driving on Interstate 40 you were on the old Route 66 which still exists along side the Interstate in places. El Mirage, Arizona
Wow!! Quintessential Americana Marie 🤩 🇺🇸 It's great that you've been having such a good time along ⛽ iconic 66 , discovering some vintage attractions. The exhibits were inventive , have you noticed how holograms are becoming more of a thing , the paintings you come across are amazing , all those portraits can be overwhelming , I'm sure i recognise some photos from my lavish book I've had for years on Gettysburg & the emancipation proclamation. Visiting the family home was special , it was warm & cozy , they did a marvelous job recreating everything , I'm glad something original survived. Love your reaction to our country! But I love your country! I cry when I have to come home from France for many reasons. Dippin Dots was invented just down the road from our house in Curt Jones' garage. Glad you got to see some of the middle of the USA!
You are a very loving person that I want to welcome you back to the USA. I started following you when you took us on a tour to Normandy. As a military veteran (not of WWII) you hooked me when you cried for all the allied hero’s buried there and especially when you realized their age. You feel like family to me and yet we have never personally met. God Bless you!
You should take a trip down to the Ozarks, SE Missouri area. Spend a day at Silver Dollar City theme park, in Branson MO. The shows, the rides, the food, and the feeling that you've stepped back in time to pioneer days, I think you would enjoy that immensely.
5:26 I imagine the drive in car speakers still work, but likely they also will broadcast over the FM band as well, so you can listen with the car radio as well. The broadcast has a limited range of about 1km, though.
Hello from Michigan, USA. Just enjoying your video on Rt. 66. On your next trip to the US, please try to visit The Henry Ford Museum, and Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan. I'm sure you would enjoy it.
I have to thank you, Marie for as you say 'visiting the real America'. On a business trip to Los Angeles, I managed to have breakfast with a group of German tourists who told me they were on a trip to 'see America'. I asked what was on their itinerary. They said their tour included stops in New York City, Los Angeles and Las Vegas before flying back to Germany. I had to tell them that they were not 'seeing America'. It takes time away from the big cities and spending time in the heartland to 'see the real America'. Thank you for taking the time to see the 'real America'.
I actually disliked that comment, as someone who born raised in Virginia, lived in Iowa 12 years and now Las Vegas. It is all "real america" hate that sentiment.
@@mellifluousthoughts1395 What I dislike is our beautiful country being represented internationally by the dirty, uninspired, broken cities of NYC and LA. It’s no wonder the rest of the world hates us, when they visit they only go to those two places. I would hate us too if that was my only experience of America.
I definitely recommend going to a drive-in if you ever get the chance to, especially seeing as they're beginning to be phased out. I used to have one in my town before it closed down. Bring bug spray though depending on where you are. Lots of mosquitos especially during the summer time. Cheers! 🍻🍿
I do tours in Gettysburg, where Lincoln gave his famous address. If you ever return to the East Coast, I can show you more of Lincoln and the history of the war that changed the US and how we think.
So glad you got some more stampage in your book. Springfield has my favorite presidential museum. I can't say there aren't any better because I've haven't done them all. From and back to St. Louis makes for a long day. I noticed your Mickey T shirt. Walt was born in Chicago. His family spent years in Marceline and then Kansas City. Back to Chi town and perhaps some WWI activities in France with the Red Cross and back to KC where he met Mickey. The point is Marceline is about the size of Hermann, and there is a museum and childhood home. KC and Chicago probably have places too. I don't know. Anyway, I had some college friends from Marceline, and we never talked about Mickey and Walt. That's another curly W.
The Lincoln museum looked really well done! That's a place I would definitely like to check out sometime. It was very heartwarming to hear that Lincoln would bring stray cats home, too. A true gentleman! I'm also glad to see you got to try Culver's and Dippin Dots! Two staples of my childhood.
Hi Marie, you are really seeing the true America and i hope you find it as beautiful as we Americans do. I think its great your getting to experience all these wonderful places in our country. I moved to Arizona years ago but was born and raised in beautiful Michigan which was a french settlement.
You weren't far from New Salem, it was where Lincoln owned a store and it has a lot of artifacts from Lincoln's era. What you enjoyed was what we call "Americana". It is little things that were common in everyday life in rural and small town America.
Hey Marie, you're around my neck of the woods. Hope you enjoy the hospitality of the mid-west. Be polite and kind to us, and we'll be one of your favorite areas of the country. Love ya darlin and hope you have a good time.
It's wonderful that you came to my city, St. Louis, and the surrounding area! The Lincoln sites in Springfield are amazing, and the Lincoln Library and Museum have very well-designed exhibits. I realized that I had not been to Hermann in a while, and I needed to go back! The Midwest is a very special part of the U.S., with lovely people and interesting history!
Thanks for visiting my hometown the place I was raised and still live in Springfield Illinois the vast majority of tourists just visit the big cities on either coast it's really great that you're seeing and enjoying the real American Midwest. We have a twin drive-in theater at an amusement park called "Knights Action Park" here in Springfield if you're really interested in going to one you can pick which movie you want to see...check it out online.
I love watching your adventures in America! I am wondering if you have gotten to see hummingbirds yet? I think they are the most amazing and beautiful birds we have in North America even though they are the smallest! Enjoy your travels. 😊
Bonjour Marie! Always love watching your videos. Culver's burgers are fresh, handmade, and very good. Their crinkle cut fries are kinda bland (Arby's has better IMO,) and their most famous thing is their Cheese Curds. Did you get to try those? A few things... Lincoln the second L isn't pronounced, typically it's pronounced as Linkohn or Linkon. Pieces is typically pronounced Pee Says. Route is usually pronounced Root like Rootbeer or Boot, with the long O like boo boo. Glad you got to experience some of the Midwest, hope to see you make a trip to Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, and Cincinnati at some point! Bone journee! ~Be Blessed
I enjoy learning about my country thru your eyes. Things I didn't know as I have never been to those places. I hope you stay long enough to go to the drive in
If you have not been already, a must visit museum to me is The Henry Ford in Michigan. Plan for 2 days to get through it all without rushing to much. Greenfield Village one day and the inside museum the other day. They also offer a tour of the working Ford plant that's down the road a bit. The museum is not just about cars, it is full of all kinds of antiques and historical items and monuments. Another smaller museum I liked a lot is Dragonmans. It is a private military museum east of Colorado Springs CO. There is also a shooting range and other activities on the site as well. The guided tour is a little over 2 hours I think.
I do route 66 from Oklahoma City to LA in my Jeep with the top down every few years. easily my favorite road trip. diversions up to moab, sedona and tahoe, occasionally. you should check those spots out. nothing like them in europe! well, maybe there's some nice mountain lakes like tahoe in the alps, but i promise you'll never see trees like the sequoias in austria!
When my wifes father came into town, both are French, I took them to Springfield on our way back to St. Louis from Chicago. We didn't have time to visit the museum but we got lunch and visited Lincolns grave. Its cool to see it again from another French perspective.
My hometown, I was born and raised in Springfield, ill. If that was the 66 drive-in, where the grass is in front of the screen, there used to be a playground there... Very cool seeing it all again... Thanks M...
I absolutely love your videos :) I’ve said it before and I say it now. I love your mind. So much fun experiencing the world with you. Thank you for being who you are. Pls don’t stop, and pls always share.
Have you considered Denver or the Pacific Northwest for trips. PNW has Seattle,Vancouver and Portland…and endless trees…volcanos too! Denver (Mile high city) has everything, mountains, mining towns, old west, Red Rocks. You would love both destinations.
I forgot about dipping dots we used to get them as kids when we went to the zoo and water park here in Columbus Ohio. But havent been there in ages so i haven't had them in a long time forgot they were a thing lol.
Museums are fantastic! As long as they tell the whole story, which is kind of hard to find nowdays. I have never been to Culver personally, but I have heard that the Cheese Curds are really good!
Great vidéo and Great Music too. It's Abraham Lincoln who said :"If I had eight hours to chop down a tree, I'd spend six sharpening my axe " .Time in preparation ... Thank you For that Beautiful vidéo.
You’re reminding us to not take all the great things in our country for granted, and that we should get out there and go see the sights ourselves! Thank you, Marie! Glad you are having so much fun!
I love that you get a true experience of being in America. So many people get sucked into the tourist traps and get very skiewed ideas of what it is actually like. Love your videos!
You did a marvelous job! I've been to al of these places, and you nailed it! Thanks! Chicago soon please! :) (See the Art Institute!) This IS the real America!
Marie, thank you for visiting Abraham Lincoln's home and grave in Springfield. He has always been my hero. But more than that, I always find it interesting that when you go to the place where someone was born, or grew up, or lived, or is buried, it reminds you that this person was real, and was once alive. They are not just someone in a book. It brings you closer to them.
Marie, those wild horses at 12:54 are Mustang horses. That's where the name was taken for the cars you like. In the back of the cars you'll see the Mustang emblem. 🐎
Excuse the correction but the horses weren't wild or Mustangs. They are behind an electric fence. The buckskin is a quarterhorse and the other is a paint.
@@annfrost3323 P-51 Mustang is a long-range escort fighter designed and flown during World War II. The company responsible was North American Aviation; they designed, built, and flew the prototype in 118 days. The first P-51s that saw combat were flown by the Royal Air Force, who named the P-51, the Mustang. Letter P stands for Pursuit.
Marie, it's so good that you got to go see all of those things! It's always fun to see what you focus on and the facts you share. Route 66 hold a special place in a LOT of American's hearts. Before freeways, that was the way a LOT of people got from the east coast to the west coast. If you've ever watched the Pixar movie "Cars", it basically tells the story of the little towns along Route 66 that no one stopped to see and experience anymore because they were on the freeway that bypassed all of these amazing places. I always try to navigate to places without using freeways so I can see what real America is. Thank you for bringing us all along on this journey! Keep smiling!
I remember going to the Lincoln museum. And standing next to Lincoln statue. We were about the same heights. Lol So glad you got to enjoy yourself and learn a little history.
I am from Springfield and my girlfriend loves your channel! She was so excited to see you visit our local community. Glad you stopped at Jubelts. They have some nice, cozy food. Hopefully you can visit again.
I've been to Springfield a couple time's on school field trips. Yes Mr. Lincoln's museum is so cool. Not to mention all those amazing places on route 66.
I have been to Springfield and visited the Lincoln home & museum. Both so worthy of a visit. Amused you had a meal at Culver’s. vintage Midwest Burger & Frozen Custard fast food restaurants.
As one who has physical limitations and unable to travel that I am thoroughly enjoying your videos so I can kinda travel along with you and see the things I’m not able to go to see myself so I just wanted to thank you , you think you are just having fun and exploring but you are actually helping folks out , it’s a bit ironic that a American is watching a lady from France to take her on a tour of America, hey I’m good with it and thank you again it is appreciated
Marie, If you have the chance try Jollibee they are all over in America and try Filipino food they are all over in the U.S. as well Also there are Jollibee's in Europe but if you want the real Jollibee try the ones in the Philippines
It's nice to see a foreign traveler visiting small town Midwest (where I live) instead of NY or LA.

Thanks for the heart...your certainly welcome to come back and see some other sites you missed if possible.
I love watching your adventures in America! I am wondering if you have gotten to see hummingbirds yet? I think they are the most amazing and beautiful birds we have in North America even though they are the smallest! Enjoy your travels. 😊
Ohhh I did 😁 They are so tiny!
Bon joure, Marie. Always happy to see you.
I enjoyed that, but I kept waiting to see your reaction to Dippin' Dots, only to have you just show a picture of the bowl!
~Be Blessed
You’re editing keeps getting better and better. I like your music selection. Cheers from San Diego!
Yes, definitely the real America.
Stop it. Real America is both rural and city.
I enjoy learning about my country thru your eyes. Things I didn't know as I have never been to those places. I hope you stay long enough to go to the drive in
14:13 Hey, I know that church! St. Paul in Hamel is a wonderful place! ❤
Still waiting for you to rent a Mustang...ESPECIALLY on route 66!!!! ❤😂
A French gal didn't get the cheese curds at Culverts, c'mon. 😉
Awesome video Marie, looked like some very cool places to visit. Thanks for sharing.
I love that you get a true experience of being in America. So many people get sucked into the tourist traps and get very skiewed ideas of what it is actually like. Love your videos!
St. Louis is one of the best art cities in all of America. Phenomenal Museums.
Your videos are sooo professional and well done. I love watching your videos
Route 66 was called America's highway. I wish I could drive Route 66.
Marie, those wild horses at 12:54 are Mustang horses. That's where the name was taken for the cars you like. In the back of the cars you'll see the Mustang emblem. 🐎
Actually, the Ford Mustang was named after the P-51 Mustang, which in turn was named after the horse
Excuse the correction but the horses weren't wild or Mustangs. They are behind an electric fence. The buckskin is a quarterhorse and the other is a paint.
@@reindeer7752if we are being "correct" the smaller horse is a "pinto" Spanish for the dark spot on the side. Not paint.
@@maxwellharris507what is a PT 51? An airplane. Or you really don't know.
Excellent video.
I am enjoying the richness of your experiences. I feel I am experiencing them second-hand. Welcome!
Brings back so many beautiful memories. Thanks Marie!
I live in St Louis, few blocks away from Route 66.
I don't think they'll let you try on the dresses, but you could ask. lol
I have been to Springfield and visited the Lincoln home & museum. Both so worthy of a visit. Amused you had a meal at Culver’s. vintage Midwest Burger & Frozen Custard fast food restaurants.
As one who has physical
limitations and unable to travel that I am thoroughly enjoying your videos so I can kinda travel along with you and see the things I’m not able to go to see myself so I just wanted to thank you , you think you are just having fun and exploring but you are actually helping folks out , it’s a bit ironic that a American is watching a lady from France to take her on a tour of America, hey I’m good with it and thank you again it is appreciated
You went to Culvers and didn't try some frued cheese curds? Oh you're missing out. Try them next time.
Marie,
If you have the chance try Jollibee they are all over in America and try Filipino food they are all over in the U.S. as well
Also there are Jollibee's in Europe but if you want the real Jollibee try the ones in the Philippines
