I am a Financial Advisor. Rule of thumb, my clients own around 3%-5% - precious metal FUNDS. I do love the Numismatic Side! I've personally bought Morgan's, Key Date Peace Dollars, etc., etc. (slabbed) several years ago that are worth substantially more than what I paid for them today....and, I truly love coins. I PERSONALLY think graded Eagles are a joke! My advice, buy coins because you enjoy the history and eye appeal - buy slabbed (no guess work) with a long-term outlook! I do love the hobby!
Really good video today from the opening Loop shots to the final stack! Enjoyed the entire conversation with Russ ... learned about the O mint gold and the two other branch mints. I've ordered five '23 ASEs, plus I too did some random ebay shopping as well for a few singles ('23s and '05 for grandson's tube). I want the one for my Whitman album right now! lol I also keep a current year/date coin in air-tite capsules and tubes for each of the six countries I stack plus Libertads. Already have my '23 Krug, Phil, and Brit... so I'm getting impatient lol. Love that you go in to see Russ so often as that store front and counter always bring back such vivid memories of my one visit there in the late 60s when I purchased my 3oz J-M poured bar.
I really enjoyed Russ's commentary on ASE's. The gold portion of the video was informative, love listening to all that Mint history! Big fan of your pick ups of course- vintage silver rocks! Look at the 1984 toner- wow👍👍
11:21 Along this same theme I find it so weird when Americans buy slabbed Perth Mint 1oz silver roo's. Recently saw a youtuber buy more than 20 in MS69 grade. Those 1oz coins are the most generic form of silver you can get in Australia, paying to get them graded makes no sense to me at all
The one I try to nudge people to if they want to slab something "generic" and Australian is the 1966 Round 50c coin. it's 80% silver and a PCGS MS66 1966 50c is worth around $450AUD But you can get unopened Australian 1966 mint sets for $65 in america (found some on ebay) MS65 is still somewhere around $170-$200AUD, MS64 around $120AUD I've never slabbed anything myself, but thats the one I'd be looking at
I love the pre 33 gold. Definitely a few of them on my bucket list to own but not sure I'll ever have any unless they were to be a gift lol. I need an everyday carry piece of history.
Hey, thanks for bringing us along T. I just started stacking in march of 2022. Throughout 2022 I only bought ASE’s because I was scared to venture into silver that I didn’t know anything about. Through your channel I’ve come to understand the value in metals and no longer feel locked into US mint pieces. Thank goodness because those premiums were something else. I must say that toned round was the star of the show at the end.
Thanks Peter! I’m glad you found the silver stacking lifestyle and discovered me. Your comment means a lot to me. Thank you for sharing and best wishes on growing that stack!!
My LCS have second quality eagles about a week ago for $29. I was contemplating on buying them out to turn around and sell them immediately to put the profit back into the stack but I decided to not pull the trigger since I don't have an eBay page and the sales would probably be far and in between. I just wish EVERYONE would stop paying 35 for them. The premiums would drop fast if everyone voted on it with their wallets.
I’ve seen several videos now that say interest in silver is dropping or stagnant. I wonder if it’s just the interest in the LCS that’s dropping. I try to visit a couple local shops often but the deals in various social media outlets are so much better. I just purchased beautiful generic Liberty 1 oz rounds for $2.00 over spot and that person was selling 25 tubes. With today’s prices in everything else, we have to get deals where we can. Anyway, love your videos T. Cheers buddy.
I have a couple of those American $1 gold coins. I bought one as a birthday gift to myself and my daughter bought me the other one my lcs had. They are buried, so I don't know what mint they're from. I'm actually looking for two more Newfoundland $2 gold coins, to finish my collection. Sadly no funds to buy right now.
my lcs has a bargin bin of silver. small box of random coins/ bars. on occasion though, there will be 10 to 30 ase in the box. i got some for 27.00 each. they're not perfect, but they are good.
I'd like to hear a plastic holder vs silver stacking question. Which one is the best for stacking/resale/flipping. Im still hashing this one out. Seems short term flipping would be the plastic case value
I don't see the ASE premiums getting to low either. The companies that have more of an Impact on prices have already paid to much for the Eagles they have and I'm sure wouldn't let it come down too much.
You have to remember those guys have way lower overhead then we do. I'd love to sell you silver cheaper, I'd love to buy it cheaper! However, we have to feed our families. You also have to think about shipping and the convenience of walking into a shop. Also, singles are $5 over but we do better on quantity.
@@themillennialnumismatist oh believe when I say this I do know. I've bought Poured silver. Graded Morgan dollars and peace dollars. And I also love everything 90% and the last couple of years believe me when I say I paid up to get what like.
Shit, I've been buying gov minted bullion for around those prices. I just shop around. If I'm buying generic I'm getting 10 oz bars because I couldn't understand why people are paying the same price for generic rounds that I am for gov minted stuff. I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just genuinely curious.
And you’d rather have a buffalo round rather than a vintage Engelhard? I enjoy the coin shops because of the awesome finds that can be had. Not gonna find that by saving a dollar or two online. Not to mention, I don’t have to give my credit card or address when buying at an LCS with cash.
I don't stack silver I just collect coins, but I've heard what Russ was saying about exhausting the silver supply in the earth's crust. I think that demand will breed innovation, maybe we'll figure out way to extract dissolved silver from seawater or find a source of silver that hasn't been thought of yet... maybe we'll start mining asteroids or something.
You have to remember that there overhead is virtually zero where ours is very high. We keep thousands of ounces in stock for our customers at a time, we have rent for a store front in the financial district, a dozen employees to pay, etc. I won't lie and say we can always best the online guys 🤷♂️
@@themillennialnumismatist understand, my point was you were making sound that generics were selling for $4-$5 dollars at above spot in the general market place, when they are not.
