    Are they really so deluded that they think their accent and syntax doesn't give them away as being from the Indian Subcontinent?

    • @ScorpioNick
      @ScorpioNick  7 років тому +9

      Some of them actually believe they're convincing enough to pass for westerners. But if he thinks I have an American accent, then I wouldn't be surprised to find out he's delusional.

      They are deluded very much. One scammer mentioned that he is calling from Mountain View, California. I asked him, if I can take him for lunch. He told me he would love to but he is shifting to Vancouver.

    Hi Nick, I'm from the UK and your accent definitely sounds Australian to me just as their accent sound Indian. By the way your accent/voice is nice and calm. Sorry can't offer any technical feedback, I watch just out of fascination of technical expert vs technical bullshitter.

      I'm boggled by how many of them (for some reason always the females) claim I have a British accent, though it's as you suspect - Australian. Not to worry about technical feedback; I too get all the feedback I need from them. The 'show' wouldn't be possible without them (I ought to let them in on that fact at some point).

    at 13:30 did you program whatever that is yourself? (i mostly put your videos on as background noise while i draw i gotta admit, so i dont toootally catch all of it) if you did write it, you should totally try writing a text adventure for a scammer and see if you can get any of them to go along with it. maybe one guiding them through the typical "fixation" of a computer right up until they try to charge you 6k. i'd love to see that haha

    • @ScorpioNick
      @ScorpioNick  7 років тому +5

      Yes and no. I wouldn't call it programming, but I did do it.
      Scammers never play along with games created for them, unfortunately. It would be hilarious though.

And last question, i've seen other youtuber using 'Rats' and they can fully take the control of the scammer computer, (webcam microphone) i know thats a bit extreme but if you could make a video out of solthing like that that would be hillarious :) !

      I'm not sure I believe that, I've seen some strange videos of supposedly killing their machines. You'd have to convince the scammers to do certain things before getting that type of control. I wouldn't have thought they'd even have webcams on their machines.

    Hello again! Sorry for writing back this late, couldn't find the time to answer you earlier. Regarding the intro: I will start working on a prototype this weekend, probably Sunday. I'll upload that prototype to my channel and provide you with a link. Don't worry, I will set it on 'not listed' in the settings so only you could see it :)
    And another question: do you want/ need any transition-animations or an outro/ endcard?
    Nice video by the way!

    • @ScorpioNick
      @ScorpioNick  7 років тому

      Cheers. Usually this sort of thing would be done a little more privately, but it's ok. I can't imagine a transition, but occasionally a recording ends on a bombshell which might warrant some sort of outro. I'll need to think on it, but best we speak less publicly about it.

      Yeah they've also used wrestling names for the Americans, apparently. I'd have had a hard time keeping a straight face speaking to Haydos with that accent, but I'd have treated it as just another challenge regarding not laughing. The whole scam thing is a troll anyway, trying to get people to believe that the event viewer shows viruses for example. But they hate it when they're on the receiving end of the joke, having their time taken up.

    • @ScorpioNick
      @ScorpioNick  6 років тому +1

      Hmm well I've been tinkering with computers since I was about 7 (I'm 37 now), but TAFE would be a good place. I did my Advanced Diploma of Computer Engineering a few years ago, enjoyed that. Now I'm at uni going for a degree (feels a bit odd at my age, but still enjoying it). Virtual machines are used quite a lot nowadays for many reasons - you'd very likely be making use of them in a TAFE course. But if the academic world isn't something you're interested in, enough searching around online would probably provide the answers.

    • @alicanyilmaxinittt6269
      @alicanyilmaxinittt6269 6 років тому

      ScorpioNick thanx mate... Yeah it was an advanced diploma in computer systems with CCNA. At the time I think it would have been the best and most difficult course at tafe! • @ScorpioNick
      @ScorpioNick  6 років тому

      Yep that's exactly what I did (with CCNP in the final semester). I have to agree about experience being more important; all the theory in the world does nothing unless it's applied, and the most useful lessons happen in real world scenarios. They can tell you about the need for policy & procedures until the cows come home, but that one time someone screws up and it costs the company a big client...that won't be forgotten in a hurry.

    BSOD on a white screen? Maybe that should be a WSOD.
    Scammer unsettled by cognitive dissonance from 12:05.
    When they asked if you were Matt or Mack, I was wondering if they might have previously dealt with Astro, who sometimes passes himself off with the latter name.
    When the scammer denied being Indian, I was waiting for you to play the Pakistan card, and was relieved when you finally did. Actually, if he were from Bangladesh, he still mightn't be keen to be identified as Pakistani, given that those of us of a certain age remember when Bangladesh was simply East Pakistan before they got their independence from (West) Pakistan.
    I don't proactively scambait, but I do generally lie in readiness with a VM ready to go if scammers happen to call me. After a hiatus of a few months, I suspect that I might hear from them again soon - presumably from an outfit that has not previously dealt with me and blacklisted my phone number after an unrewarding and time-wasting experience. Early this evening I received one of those silent phone calls where a woman's voice merely says "Goodbye" and hangs up, and I later received a call where there was background noise, but nobody spoke to me, and then they hung up.

    • @ScorpioNick
      @ScorpioNick  7 років тому

      Damn, I remember thinking I'd confront them on that, then forgot. Maybe a WSoBS.
      Upon listening back to it, yes I thought maybe he'd run into Mr. Mack Affie. I might be imagining things, but he seemed to chuckle a bit much at the notion of Sri Lankan, so..maybe that.
      Oh yeah, those calls where they just mostly stay silent when you answer. Those upset me. If I can be bothered walking to the landline only for that - I'd rather toy with them a bit. Maybe those calls are just to confirm other sketchy information they have on the number such as 'we believe a white male in this age range lives here', and they follow up later with solar panel crap or whatever else it is. I really want another one of those 'survey' calls though, because you can give them the most outrageous answers, and they continue, trying to fill out their forms.

      Yeah, I don't really know what to do creatively with those calls about solar panels or purportedly from the "accident helpline", so I usually just revert to baser instincts with a suggestion such as "How about you insert a thousand elephant trunks into your Third World arse?" The call tends to die immediately thereafter.

      Here's what I generally do. Tell them I live in an...odd place. Like a tent, for example. Then when they ask, tell them you already have 7 solar panels and you're not sure the tent could support more. I just wing it though.

      It's been getting cold quite often lately! But keeping the One Power at bay, can't complain about that. (I'll go through a few names I think).

      I can't imagine movies doing it justice. Possibly a TV series, one season per book, but I'd hate to see it ruined.
