    A good time was had by all, except David, Rick and Nick. Waters immediately tried to take over during rehearsal and David had to step in. You can see how upset Nick was in this video...he said it was a miserable experience and couldn't wait for it to be over. There's a short video of the rehearsal here on youtube.

    Nice choice for Pink Floyd Friday! Great to see the band together again, but not everyone was happy about it. I did see Roger Waters back in 2000, and did like the Floyd songs, but I’ve not been a big fan of Waters’ solo work. I wasn’t the most enamored with The Wall, although it has several epic songs, but liked The Final Cut even less. It was too much a Waters’ solo album. I was so glad when PF released A Momentary Lapse of Reason then later The Division Bell. Just a suggestion for the next time you’re thinking of doing another Porcupine Tree song is “Stranger By The Minute”. It’s from Stupid Dream, same as “Don’t Hate Me”, but this is way more uptempo and surprisingly doesn’t have the usual trance like qualities.

      Thanks, somethin different... Yea, I get the feeling that Roger is not well liked by much of the PF fanbase. I did look into some of the recent drama, so I see what's been going on. Maybe my Final Cut reactions will have crickets!? Added SBTM to the list. Do you have a favorite off that album?

    • @drmagic60
      @drmagic60 Рік тому +1

      The entire Stupid Dream album is a masterpiece IMO. It opens with “Even Less” which is epic, followed by “Piano Lessons”, also “This is No Rehearsal”, “Tinto Brass”, you’re obviously familiar with “Don’t Hate Me”. It’s great from start to finish! “Stranger By The Minute” though is one of my favorites.

    However, the best sequence of this brief collaborative performance is "Comfortable Numb" (for me the best live video version) as this is where Roger and David take turns singing, as originally on some original songs like "Run To Hell".
    As the three songs show, D.G. has a monotonous, sleepy voice over time, but R.W. is partly chaotic to crooked, but taking turns together creates an interesting vocal tension. Neither of them are rock singers for me, so the three statistical jackdaws don't save anything on Pulse either, ha-ha; don't take it too seriously.

    they put away their differences for 30 minutes and after it was over the conflict continued between David and Roger sad notice where Roger put Richard kid of in a lonely corner out of the lime light That is what most of the feud was about how much Roger distained Richard because of the Wall incident

    You mentioned how excited the audience there must have been, let me tell you I was like a kid at Christmas for like a full month leading up to this thing. The anticipation was almost unbearable. This was the first time since The Wall tour of 1980 they would all appear on stage together. (This was all broadcast live for three whole days over that weekend). There are videos of them rehearsing for this and they couldn't be more congenial with each other. Having lunch together, etc. But word is that Gilmour let Roger know in no uncertain terms when he suggested tweaking the setlist, that this was Gilmour's band and they were going to do only the songs he'd already selected and there will be no further discussion on the matter. Their final moments on stage after it's all over made it all worth it for uber fans like myself.
    And yes, Gilmour does hit those high notes during the fade out of the studio version of Money. You might have missed it because it's overtaken by the other speaking voices that are fading up. 👍

      Solid comment, man. I heard something similar about the set list conversation, yet a little different. The quote I had read wasn't that Gilmour said it was his band, but he told Roger "You're here as our guest, we're not here playing with you", or something to that effect. The implication being that the band was all 3 of theirs equally, not a different face on the autocracy of the past. It's subtle, but worth noting considering the history of the band. Cheers, my friend!

    An amazing performance, considering the fact that Roger and David basically still hated each other. For all his early brilliance, Waters became embittered jerk who though HE was Pink Floyd. He never reconciled with the fact that PF moved on without him, while his solo career fizzled.

    they gave us the reunion the beatles never did, even if for just a few songs. at the end when they gathered at the front of the stage roger had to kind of coax david to come over for a group bow. a sight no one ever thought we would see. it's sad that this performance did nothing to close the rift between roger and david, but it was for a good cause, and gave fans what they'd been yearning for years.

    You can imagine how the announcement of their reunion performance, being the brainchild of the guy who played the protagonist in the movie version of The Wall, exploded my brain into a million giddy pieces, and that half hour did not disappoint. Incidentally, Live 8 is where I discovered or re-discovered several acts that remain favorites, most notably Muse, whose work I know you have sampled. ANYwho, when that signature heartbeat began, I looked over at my partner and we uttered in unison "pigs have flown"...minutes before we saw the front-row fan holding a sign saying the exact same. Considering their iconography, I suppose that was the only proper response lol

    In 2011 Roger and Dave would find another reason to perform together on stage when during a live performance in London of Comfortably Numb during Roger's live tour of The Wall that year, suddenly David appears for the chorus and solo instead of the usual touring singer Roger uses for all of Dave's parts. The audience went wild. The performance is on UA-cam... look up Rodger Waters - David Gilmour Comfortably Numb Live 02 Arena.
    Nick Mason would join them onstage for the finale bringing all three surviving members of Pink Floyd on stage together one last time. Dave even puts his head on Roger's shoulders at one point. You'd never know any animosity ever existed.

    The original Live Aid concert of 1985 was, in my opinion, the most exciting live music event in rock history after Woodstock. 16 hours of great music from a huge bunch of famous music stars on two stages in London and Philadelphia. I am especially remembering the appearance of U2 with their song "Bad" (brilliant!!!) and the performance of The Who.

      @@retroreactions.... By now you know, considering some of my comments, you realize that I sometimes have a somewhat to say the least...unusual perspective. 🙂
      I don't like Queen at all. Mercury undoubtedly has a strong voice, but his intonation and especially his stage performance was always far too theatrical for me. At that time, in a group of friends who watched the event with me, I described his appearance on Live Aid as that of a "puffed-up peacock". In contrast to Roger Daltrey's performance, which embodied the gritty (though slowly aging) rock shouter. This did not go unchallenged. But...I'm a little weird there. Besides U2 and The Who, I also really liked George Thorogood, David Bowie and Sade.
