after our convo the other day I had to watch this - truly an epic catch to remember on that light of tackle, seriously man. cudas that big have some serious runs too. as as you were landing it, your wife is like "can you put the rod down?" and you just kept it under your arm even though its a cheapo travel rod, the instinct to keep the rod unharmed is a sign of a true fisherman, hahaha
Haha, for sure Peter! I will never forget this fish! As soon as I hooked it, I expected it to snap the line... or the rod! The fact that I landed it, despite everything working against me ... and getting it on video too!... Unforgettable!
Thanks! Yeah, definitely one of my top catches to date! I hope you slay'em in Cancun, and hopefully look forward to seeing how it goes on your UA-cam/IG!
Awesome catches man!! Epic!! I'm going in a month or so.. staying by playa del Niño (about 10-15mins south of that jetty). How do you rig the 5" senkos..? Just texas rigged, without a weight? What size and type of hook? Thanks!!
There are a lot of things that work… for artificials, I’d go 7 inch senkos or flukes, un-weighted or minimal weight. I you especially want barracuda, you can catch small fish and live line them… just be careful as the birds will go after them too! For hooks, I’d say nothing smaller than 1/0…
Whats your travel tackle? I have an 11 ft 5 piece Diawa Ardito surf rod....12 to 25 lb with 2 to 6 oz casting weight.....fits in my luggage with a Diawa BG 5000..50 lb braid with 60 pound mono topshot of 40 feet for rocks and reef....ive caught sharks big snapper and cudas, also bring a 8ft6 4 piece fenwick with a penn 4000....30 lb braid with 40lb topshot. Last setup is a 7ft diawa exage telescope rod with a 3000 diawa fuego with 20lb braid 20lb topshot. Fully set up for different size fish conditions and potential breakage My biggest cudas about 17lb....that's a beast
Nice! Generally I keep my travel tackle fairly cheap… just in case it gets confiscated… I’ve been using an ugly stick gx2, 3 piece, and whatever real I have on hand that can get the job done! Thanks for watching!

What a fish man!! I'm in Mexico next week, any tips/lures to use?
Outstanding!
Thank you! Say what you will about Barracuda... this was one of my most accomplished catches, considering the tackle I was using!
@@FishinAccomplished very cool catch! We're headed to playa del mar in a couple weeks so ofcourse that's how I found this vid. New subscriber lol
@@Midwesthookset Awesome! Hope you guys catch'em up! Just subbed back to your channel, tight lines!
@@FishinAccomplished thanks man, I don't have any fishing content yet but I just ordered my first gopro and plan on filming some.
Epic catch . Maybe try to prepare and get the better gear. Try to keep fish in water and avoid holding out for too long :)
Thanks, yeah, honestly I wasn’t planning to catch that fish… I was 100% expecting that it would snap off!
What lures were you using to get the jacks/cuda? I'm going to be back at the resort there again in July and want to try my luck. Thanks
I was using very large senkos to target the jacks. I also had some of them hit a larger sized Yozuri SP minnow.
A good Rapala and salmon spoons work for me......need to try senkos
which hotel is it? didint know there is a jetty like this in Cnacun.
Iwould love to go there too
This was in Playa Mujeres... the hotel is called Beloved
Definitely 30lb class
What hotel location. Trying to convince the wife
Beloved, playa mujeres
