I rented one of these and I found it hard to use. I found the big wheel kept wanting to slide out on the stairs and I was trying to move a bandsaw which was pretty top heavy and this tool didn't help with the weight distribution. I ended up returning the unit within about 2 hours of using it on one step going from my garage into my home.
Nate, Sorry to hear you had trouble, especially when you only needed to climb one step. We always recommend practicing with the StairCAT empty before moving a heavy load for the first time, so that you can get the feel of how it operates. The StairCAT is essentially a hand truck. It will balance in the same fashion as a non-powered hand truck. Weight distribution is dependent on the load, unless you are using one of our forklift type units to adjust the load up and down. I've worked for a lot of moving companies. Time and efficiency are key. A good set of shoulder strap and a dolly with large wheels is most helpful. I could see this being helpful for a 500lb fridge on some straight stairs, but again, if there is a turn in the stairs, you won't have room to tilt the dolly, and small wheels make large items very hard to dolly over the smallest of cracks.
Question: I have 2 of the 700lb units and one of the motors burned out(both units are over 5 years old), do you sell just the motor, or can I send them in for repair? I don't recall seeing this info on your website.

You still have to have incredible strength to pull it towards you to keep this from happening.
