- Tried fishing for snakeheads again. Fortunately, snakeheads & nice bass are found in the same ponds. Unfortunately, apparently my "hook setting" technique needs some improvement.

I think a lot of times the fish just strikes short or has got a hold of the baits frame and didn’t get the hook in its mouth, cause I know I do everything right!😅

I feel your pain. I've had days where I couldn't set a hook to save my life. Makes you wonder what you're doing wrong. 🤔 A day or two later and you're catching fish left and right...even though you're doing nothing different! I've learned to blame the fish and not me 🤣🤣🤣

Top Water can be tough at times ! Adam tells me the slower the better with hard baits that float or hollow body frogs. But other will yell you to burn it and wait 2 seconds before setting the hook. I thinks that just another personal preference and nothing is written in stone. Keep trying and be safe my friend !
Thanx for watching & commenting. I imagine there is no 1 written rule for retrieval speed. I do try to pause briefly now & then & I try to never set the hook buy sight, always by feel.

Sure thing let me know they are my favorite! Takes some time to get them dialed in but they are a blast
Let me start by asking do you fish them the same way every time? I usually cast, let it sit for a few seconds then retrieve it by twitching/popping it 2 or 3 times, let it sit for a second or 2, then repeat. I've been told you should pause intermittently & that's often when they bite
I don't always fish them the same. I'll change up the rhythm depending on if I'm using a walking frog or a popping frog and what type of cover I'm fishing. If I'm trying to find where they are at and I'm using a walking frog I tend to keep it moving with no pause. If there's an area I think they are I will slow down or pause to keep it in the strike zone longer. With a popping frog I generally do two-three pops and pause like you mentioned. Sometimes I'll do one big pop and kick up a bunch of water if they want that. If I'm fishing heavy grass or matted vegetation I'll throw the walking frog on top. If I'm using a popping frog I'll work it along the edges
