      @@SportStorm23when the 2015 padres went all in it also caused bauer to the dodgers and plenty of other big moves.The 20`4 kemp trade led to the 2017 and 2018 kemp trades which led to puig to the reds which caused puig being traded for bauer in 2019.This may have caused bauer having a great 2020. If Bauer wasn't as good in 2020. maybe the dodgers wouldn't have signed him. The padres going all in also caused trea turner being a national, Max Fried being on the Braves, Will Smith being a dodger as well as donaldson being a twin, It also caused tatis, grisham, darvish, snell, and machado all to be on the padres which may have caused the dodgers to sign bauer. I'm not even mentioning some of the moves that may have been impacted by the padres going all in such as patrick corbin to the nats and harper to the phils as well as plenty of other moves including lindor to the mets. The padres going all in also may have caused the white sox rebuild which led to lucas giolito, yoan moncada, eloy jimenez, dylan cease, michael kopek, and dane dunning who was traded for lance lynn. These are just some of the scenarios.

    Dan Duquette was so underrated. He traded for Pedro, Derek Lowe and Jason Varitek, picked Tim Wakefield off the scrap heap, signed Manny Ramirez, drafted Nomar and Trot Nixon and he ruined Roger Clemens' legacy and shot at the Hall of Fame because his remark about Clemens being in the twilight of his career after 1996 led him to (allegedly) take PEDs.

    • @fromulus
      @fromulus 3 роки тому +5

      He laid the foundations for breaking the curse. His work was just as vital to it as epstein and luccino's was.

    • @warlordofbritannia
      @warlordofbritannia 3 роки тому

      Duquette had two problems (well, actually three) that doomed him with the Sox:
      -his poor communication skills that not only ruined his relationship with multiple managers but also with the insatiable Boston media (his best manager, Jimy Williams, was canned when Duquette sided with “Jurassic Carl” Everett in a dispute)
      -his infatuation with project players, especially the last couple years of his tenure (Troy O’Leary was originally a nice fine but Duquette didn’t cut him after he started to decline, while Mike Lansing and Dante Bichette in 2000-2001 were veterans given full time jobs at the end of their careers...the 2001 Red Sox were just full of these guys, last good about three years earlier, including Darren Lewis, John Valentin, Jose Offerman, David Cone, etc)
      Funnily enough, the same thing started to happen with the Orioles - he hung on and overpaid guys like Chris Davis and Mark Trumbo while also relying on retreads like Ubaldo Jimenez and Jeff Hardy for several years, and his relationship with manager Buck Showalter continually seemed to deteriorate over time

    That strike eliminated SO much more than a World Series and 1/3 of a season: an incredibly loaded, and good, Montreal team that effectively ended competitive baseball in that city; Gwynn flirting with .400; a possible Atlanta championship, that could have further cemented their status as a dynasty. Toronto and Cleveland were stacked unit's, destined for an epic playoff matchup; speaking of Cleveland, it stole opportunities for people to see Dennis "El Presidente" Martinez pitch and see a rookie by the name of Manny. Yeah, THAT Manny.
    I know there was a wicked fan backlash; but, as a teenager who was, absolutely head-over-heels, in love with the game. All of it, the lore, the player's, the team's, the whole romantic lot. And, of course, the game itself. That strike, absolutely, ripped my heart out- and I know heartbreak, I am a Cub's fan that grew up in Cardinal territory.

    I dont know if this has enough to it, but you could do how the Bobby Bonilla “worst deal ever” led to the Mets getting David Wright.
    Bobby Bonilla getting that $1.2 Million contract for 25 years, led to the mets getting Roger Cedeno, who was then involved in a trade for Mike Hampton. When Mike Hampton signed with the Rockies, the Mets got a compensation pick c of how much they paid Hampton, and with that pick, the Mets picked David Wright. Pretty crazy and it makes me as a Met fan not hate Bobby Bonilla day as much every year.

    I just thought of a Butterfly Effect I hope no one has brought up yet.
    The National League's Veto of the Giants moving to Tampa brought about the 2010-2014 Giants Dynasty.
    When the Giants went up for sale after their quick failure to win the 1989 World Series, investors from St. Petersburg Florida schemed to relocate the club to Tampa Bay. They failed when the National League rejected the deal. A deal was made fo keep the club in San Francisco, but the new owner Peter Magowan knew he needed to sign a huge star to draw more crowds in and prove they were committed to winning. They ink Barry Bonds to a huge deal and he puts up monster numbers, but the Giants don't win. The Giants FO soon starts to focus entirely on bringing in older players and relying less and less on Farm Players, trading away players like AJ Pierzynski and Joe Nathan for rentals in an effort to sin while Bonds was a great player and also relinquishing draft picks in both 2004 and 2005 to sign Michael Tucker and Armando Benitez. As most older teams do, the Giants started to underachieve and soon lost Bonds for most of the 2005 season. With such a bad season (the first for the club since pre-Bonds), the club gets a high draft pick and uses it to draft Tim Lincecum. The club further sheds its need to win while Bonds was present to ultimately draft pieces like Connor Gillespie, Madison Bumgarner, Zack Wheeler, Joe Panik and Buster Posey, all of whom played supporting or key roles in the Giants push to win multiple championships from 2010 to 2014.

    How the Marlins trading their Rule 5 pick in 1999 got the Mets to the 2015 World Series. Florida had the second overall pick in the Rule 5 draft and had agreed with the Twins to trade it for their first overall pick (Jared Camp) and $50,000. The player that Minnesota got? Johan Santana. Then in 2008, he was traded to the Mets for a package including Carlos Gomez, who they tried to get in 2015, but failed to because of physicals. Then they got Yoenis Cespedes, and the rest is history.

    This one might be a bit of a stretch but if you pull it off then that would be amazing
    There could possibly be a butterfly effect involving my favorite obscure player, Brandon Moss, and Tampa bay going to the 2020 world series.

    • @mr.wafflestack68
      @mr.wafflestack68 3 роки тому

      This could work with 2 current rays, Joey Wendle and Randy Arozarena. I'm going with Wendle cause its the most direct relation.
      After acquiring Moss from Pittsburgh the A's converted him to a 1st baseman while also keeping him in his lefty outfielder role as well. Moss did great for the A's and was even an all-star on the stacked 7 all star player 2014 Oakland A's team. However by having more 1st base prospects such as Matt Olson and Mark Cahna, with the inclusion of Yonder Alonso, Moss's time as an athletic was cut short. Seeing Moss's value during the offseason and needing a 2nd baseman the A's traded moss to Cleveland and got Prospect Joey wendle. Wendle smashed in the minors but with the A's having a slew of other 2nd base prospects coming up the A's traded Wendle to the Rays for Jonah Heim. Wendle placed 4th in ROY voting in 2018 and became a regular player in tampa. When the 2020 postseason hit wendle played well in the ALDS batting .353 and scoring 4 runs. He was only rivaled by randy arozarena in average and runs scored. The performances by those 2 players, and a walkoff blast by Mike Brosseau, led to the rays going to the ALCS winning that and heading to the 2020 WS.
      There it is, its the only interesting one i could think of
      If you haven't noticed im an A's fan

Ridiculing us because we only had his D.A.R.E. baseball card (that they gave away that game) Brett Butler saw Reed's attitude toward us, pulled him to the side and said something to him, Reed just stormed off. Why are you carrying water for MLB by parroting their claim that the strike killed Montreal? A little more history could be helpful. Expansion in 1993 only occurred because MLB needed the expansion fees to pay off the lawsuit they lost for colluding against the players (in re free agency and salaries) in the 1980's.
    This was the first expansion draft that included both leagues in the draft when teams were going in only the National League. But the National League wouldn't share the expansion fees with the American League if only National League players were exposed.
    Montreal had the second lowest payroll in the Majors in 1994. So while revenue may have been down after the strike - it was a concentrated effort by the MLB to get the team out of Quebec as the government in Montreal refused to play the stadium game. As the then premier put it - paraphrasing, " I'm not willing to authorize public money for stadium construction while I'm being forced to close hospitals."
    The players struck in 1994 to avoid a lockout. And the Expos were stolen from Montreal. I had no love for the Expos but truth is truth.
    PS: I'm a Met fan and loved your video about the Wilpons.

    I’ve been waiting for someone to make this video for years. The Dodgers brought up Pedro along with Young, Mike Piazza, Antonio Alfonseca and Henry Rodriguez in 1992. I always wondered if they had held onto all those guys , would they have approached the impact of the Yankee’s 1995 debut class of Jeter/Rivera/Pettitte/Posada. Unfortunately for the Dodgers, they were all gone by 1998. By leaving Young available in the expansion draft, they ended up trading Pedro for Deshields as the video mentions, but then when Deshields failed in LA, they traded Alfonseca to Colorado to bring back Young in 1997. And by early 1998, Piazza was gone too. Pedro and Piazza both ended up in the HOF and both led other teams to a World Series appearance. Young was really good for a really long time, and was an elite lead off hitter in the National League, like a poor man’s Kenny Lofton. Alfonseca was a nice middle of the order starter and Rodriguez was a good outfielder for a few years and I believe an all star who also spent time in Montreal. World have been really interesting to see how they all performed together in LA, but the Dodgers sabotaged them before they could get anything going.
