The US didn't do that. In 2013 the Ukraine voted in favour of beginning the process towards joining the EU. If the Ukraine wanted a more pro-Russian government then they could have changed it at the next election. Russia chose a more direct action and is rightfully condemned for doing so.

Didn't this all start when there was talk of allowing Ukraine into NATO. Wasn't there a promise/agreement with Russia of no foreign troops on their border? Wouldn't allowing Ukraine into NATO be breaking that agreement?
They already broke this agreement by inviting Estonia. This took a long time for Russia to respond. The first response was the speech of Putin in 2008 but the US kept pushing.
It has nothing to do with NATO. NATO is just an excuse. The only reason for this war is Putin's imperialistc ambition.
There was never an agreement. It was stated by ex soviet president Gorbachev himself. People keep making this fake story about an agreement up though to justify Russias invasion.
Ukraine announced in 2013 it had abandoned its interest in joining NATO but was pursuing joining the EU. NATO membership only came back on the table following the Russian invasion of Crimea.
