Guys the Tsar bomba's explosion was so big the Russians thought it was too big. That is when you know you don't need to go farther
Thomas Dank engine that is the only point when Russians went over-powered...and never did it again
yes because if you detonate a bomb with a power around 100 megatons it would cause a global fallout and this is more than useless and dumb
As maritime said, it was only half of what it could be, and as Kaffohrt said, it would probably cause a global fallout due to radioactive cloud blowing up high into stratosphere almost as high as mesosphere (50 km or around 30 miles).
But there was also the fear of lead designers that it would burn the Earths atmosphere, hydrogen and oxygen in it. After the test of Tsar bomba, one of the designers (Andrej Saharov) was so shocked that it was so powerful, became worried about the future of humanity and was the one who signed the treaty of no nuclear test in 1963.
They thought it was the max efficiency of a nuclear blast, as any bigger would extend into the atmosphere and only serve to irradiate large portions of the globe, and possibly even completely remove the Atmosphere.
Sinful Melodies No it would remove the atmosphere allowing us to be bombarded by the suns radiation (and asteroids)

What is the meaning? Does he mean we will have destroyed everything and only have little?
+huntman777 obviously lol .... Life would be completely different after a nuclear war
+Gordon Pritchett he helped make the first nuclear bomb though
+DanAxleerUA-cam He never was involved in the production of the atomic bomb. He was asked to write a letter to propose for the first production of it, since it involved his equations and he was famous. Einstein was really against anything to do with warfare but he had too write the letter because of concerns that Nazi Germany will get it first.
I wonder if the scientists involved feel genuinely proud of their achievements. To quote Ian Malcolm, “they were so concerned about whether they could, they didn’t stop to think that they should”.
A simple, clear and easy to follow explanation. I've been curious about this subject for a long time; thanks!

It's simple, an Atomic bomb is a fission device, meaning that it gets all of its energy from the splitting of heavy atoms. A Hydrogen bomb is a fission/fusion device. This means that to start the reaction, an atomic bomb is used as the trigger. The heat and X-ray blast then causes the secondary fuel ( Usually a form of lithium) to fuse. Thus the Hydrogen bomb gets it's energy from fusion which is as the name says, atoms fuse together to create a new element releasing tremendous energy in the process.
I really do wish China could keep proper control of their pet north korea.
Thrakerzad .. Yeah.. I agree. But it seems they don't have much of an influence on the North, at least not like they use too
Thrakerzad .. Yeah.. I agree. But it seems they don't have much of an influence on the North, at least not like they use too..
Atomic Bomb -> Traditionally Fission Reaction. Hydrogen Bomb ->Fusion Reactions
Thank you for this explanation, I still don't understand but I still appreciate it.
A step by step guide to make a Thermo Nuclear Bomba.. Can you make a video on that ?
Hahahahah
+barackolizard what's so funny? it would be very helpful
+ironmantis25 you can by uranium
+barackolizard you need a permit to buy uranium that contains the isotope uranium 235, and you need billions of dollars to separate it from the much more common uranium 238

Underrated.
Best explanation ever: (2:13) "....a turducken of Armageddon."
Actually, the AN602 was originally designed for three, but in the end only used two stages. If they had used all three the detonation would have been equivalent to approximately 100 MT instead of "just" 57.

North Korea is just posturing. To get an idea of just how bad of condition their country is in, take a look at satellite photographs taken at night, very little light showing, whilst South Korea is lit like a Christmas tree.
Great explanation! Thank you for that!
Anybody has an idea of what happens to radiation after months or years? I wonder, does it spread around for miles with the wind in time? O does it stays kinda in the same area? I need to know
The H-bomb you are referring to is a Teller Ulum design. This is the most powerful version of the H-bomb that has been tested, and is the only version of the H-bomb that derives a significant portion of its power from fusion (i.e. usually the majority). The one thing you got wrong is that generally, lithium-6 is used instead of tritium because it is more accessible and provides a higher density (lithium deuteride is a chemical compound and lithium-6 will fission and produce two tritium nuclei when bombarded by neutrons). There is another "fusion" device, or "H-bomb" that is a more likely culprit for the recent test. It consists of some small amount of hydrogen or deuterium in the core of a conventional fission device. A small amount of the already tiny amount of fusible material actually undergoes fusion, so it does not produce much additional explosive yield. However, it does produce a massive number of additional neutrons, which increase the efficiency of the fission reaction by several factors (a pure fission bomb has an efficiency in the neighborhood of 20%. That is, the bomb reaches a subcritical density when 20% of the nuclear fuel is consumed). Because this type of weapon is orders of magnitude simpler to produce, and because we did not see a likely yield of 100+ kilotons, it is likely that this is what they tested. Google: Boosted Fission Device.
This is the bad Korea right

In my youth there was a saying--"One nuclear bomb can ruin your whole day"--so yes, North Korea's unstable leader and authoritarian police state possessing nuclear weapons is a major concern. I don't like the idea of ANY of us having them--but growing up during the cold war left a bit of skepticism in my mind.
I was going to panic, but then I read your t-shirt.

Which countries have H-Bombs? Can you make a video about it?
+Anan pokhrel Just about every country that has nukes has hydrogen bombs, except possibly North Korea.
+Sarge Rho They had missiles, but they were so badly made that they fell into the ocean before they could hit anything.
+Sarge Rho umm no North Korea claimed that they have hydrogen bombs and there is also a rumor that they tested a nuclear or possibly hydrogen bomb deep underground
+Sarge Rho it was just stated in this video that NK claimed they tested a hydrogen bomb -.-
LostSoul XI Exactly, they *claim* to have tested a hydrogen bomb. There's reason enough to doubt that they did, and to think that it probably was a regular fission bomb.
That's why I said except POSSIBLY North Korea. Are you illiterate?
umm note7 ...I'll just put that out there

Good informative video. the Tsar was reduced because they calculated the delivery plane could not get clear of the blast, thus missiles became the only viable option for delivery and the Russians had less than a great records with their larger rockets. The good thing about a hydrogen bomb is that the fusion reaction doesn't create radiation. Although it does wield more destruction
Is the atomic detonator too small to create lasting radiation or does the fusion energy afterwards negate this?
because of those glasses his eyes are bigger than my future
very well explained.
I have a question, boosted fission + thermonuclear hydrogen bombs work quite differently, but yet is it truely possible to compress hydrogen isotopes or at least create them inside the core with lithium deutride to create an explosive fusion detonation? If so, how small do the isotopes have to be compressed? Im guessing immensly, so immense that you would need a fission reaction to compress it, just how explosives pressurise plutonium like in the pumpkin design bombs such as the "Fat Man"
That’s what the primary is for in a thermonuclear weapon. The primary detonates, and creates X rays. These X rays are directed to the secondary, and compress the fusion fuel via radiation implosion. Basically, the X rays hit the surface of the secondary, and vaporize the surface. These particles from the vaporized pusher fly off the secondary with tremendous energy, which, due to conservation of momentum, pushes in on the secondary. This creates the pressure required for the fusion of hydrogen. While this is happening, the spark plug made of fissile material (usually U235) undergoes fission, and creates heat, and more pressure, which compresses the fusion fuel from the inside. These two forces cause the deuterium and tritium to fuse and release more neutrons.

I'm a bit late to the party, but..
This is mostly pretty accurate, though the secondary frequently also contains a fission 'spark plug' in the center that kick-starts fusion, and the fuel in more modern thermonuclear bombs tends to be deuterium and lithium since lithium produces tritium in-situ and doesn't require a lot of expensive tritium to be manufactured before-hand. Also the tamper tends to be not-very-enriched Uranium, mostly 238. The reason a bunch of extra stages aren't used is because the primary purpose of fusion is to make lots of extra neutrons to make the fission reactions burn more nuclear fuel which means you need less material and can actually make more, smaller, cheaper bombs for the same amount of fissile material. Since it's better strategically to have more smaller bombs you'll almost never find huge bombs intended for deployment.
Also you're correct that the Tsar Bomba was a 3-stage device, but they disabled the 3rd stage (which would've taken it to 100 megatons or more) because the scientists were worried it could be way too powerful.
Source: I read a lot about nuclear bombs.
Sit could you pleas tell us how much heat in 100 megatons ?
@@NH-pv9tm Megatons is a measure of explosive energy (the force of the blast wave), not the heat it outputs. Those things are related just not in a 1:1 fashion. So the short answer is: I dunno, a lot. The slightly longer answer is: millions of degrees; the heating of the air is one of the primary means of generating a shockwave, it just gets so hot so fast that the air literally cannot get out of the way fast enough.
They probably got the instructions on how to make the bomb, just by watching this vid lmao
Im scared for what people will use these weapons D:
Most likely as defence mechanisms from other countries
but its still less scary than using them as a defence mechanism agaisnt an asteroid
true
Stephanos ikr
Stephanos if it happens it's gonna hit California first
You're wrong on the tamper. The tamper is made of U-238 (depleted uranium)-not U-235-which can undergo fission from fast-neutrons. U-235 tampers are too hard to purify in that quantity, so they figured out that U-238 can undergo fission if bombarded by fast neutrons. U-235 is ideal for primaries because they undergo fission from slow-neturons which can start the chain-reaction; however, after the secondary is ignited, there are plenty of fast neutrons available which can cause even U-238 to undergo fission.
It gives us so much information!

Well Done---But do not build your own thermonuclear devises in your garage.
the shirt fits the topic...
F bombs are easier to learn........
At what yield (-also know as size of the warhead in either kilotons or megatons) does a atomic bomb became a H-bomb?
atomic bombs have size limit before they detonate too fast and blow away fissionable materiel and when they become so big they self detonate, hydrogen bombs dont have this limit unless its the size of the sun wich in its self one huge hydrogen bomb, hydrogen bombs are entirely different from other nuclear bombs, they produce much less radio active fallout but still require a smaller atomic bomb to detonate.
There's no loss of mas in fission contrary to popular belief. The energy comes from the loss of the binding energy used to keep the nucleus together.
tsar bomba was a test there is a bigger one
gibbel zoob Tsar Bomba was the biggest ever produced bomb. There was plans for a bigger bomb , but when USSR disbanded, the designing stopped.
JuhaJGaming there are currently bigger and stronger nukes that the tsar bomba, but we are not allowed to use it in war, only as a test
the bigger one is only designed it hasn't been tested
TheCoreCG No, there were plans for 100mt test, but russia abandoned it
@JuhaJGaming: No, the Tsar Bomba was dropped in 1961. The full blown version did not take almost 30 years to get cancelled. The design was finished, but not implemented. The USSR made their point with the smaller version which actually yielded 57 Megatons of TNT.
