- Welcome to the video about 20 Rarest AMC Muscle Cars Ever Made! | What They Cost Then vs Now
75. This UA-cam video highlights 20 of the rarest and most unique AMC muscle cars ever produced. Although not usually regarded as one of the top American muscle car manufacturers, AMC (American Motors Corporation) developed some powerful and special performance models during the 1960s and 1970s muscle car era. Models like the AMX, Javelin, and Rambler Rebel positioned AMC as a serious player in the muscle car wars alongside Chevrolet, Ford, and Mopar. With a focus on lightweight designs and potent V8 engines, AMC muscle cars like the SC/Rambler and Hurst SC/Rambler offered American car buyers distinctive and nimble alternatives to the heavy muscle cars from other brands. AMC even partnered with Hurst for specially modified versions of their Javelin and AMX muscle cars. While short-lived, AMC was an innovative force when it came to muscle cars. This video shines a deserved spotlight on the rarest AMC-produced muscle cars that have been largely overlooked for too long. Any true fan of classic American muscle cars needs to see these special AMC rarities.

Have you ever driven an AMC muscle car?
Yes
Thank you for featuring my 1971 Javelin in your video!! I was pleasantly surprised and shocked 😲 🙏 Great video!!
Thanks again!
I like the A M X cars because, among the plethora of Pony cars, they are so unique.
Yes, thank you.
All of the cars are amazing
Great. Thank you. Do you own any of them?
The AMX 2 seater lasted three years. ‘68, ‘69, and ‘up. AMC some of the AMX drag cars to Super Stock Teams to see what they could do with them. With the technology of the day, one team got 529 hp out of a 390. This engine used cylinder heads made by Crane Cams. The 1970 and later Dog Leg heads performed better and most racers used those, fully ported and polished.
Yes, thanks for watching.
The 2 seat amx was available 3 years, 68, 69, and 70
Those were great cars. Very underrated. I had a chance to buy one in 76 but I was only 16 and my mom and dad said no.😢
Yes, you must be a muscle car enthusiast.
Man that Marlin is a beautiful machine. Love the brown colour scheme 👍🏻
Have you ever driven that car?
@@qmusclecars Unfortunately not. Never drove an AMC 😢
What muscle car have you ever driven?@@rovervitesse1985
Love the video, most of the muscle cars from AMC looks great and incredible as well, good to go with this one and keep it up.
Thank you. Please continue to watch my videos.
@@qmusclecars you're welcome and I will do that.
Yes, great@@claytonthomas1980
It's really cool to see some really cool Muscle Cars from the badass Independent Car Company called AMC. Imagine what AMC would've been like had both Studebaker and Packard merged together with Hudson and Nash along with Kaiser and Jeep to create AMC in 1954?
Can you share more information?
@qmusclecars Well when the 50s came the big 3 we're taking huge ground by learning everything from. The independent car companies and destroy em as well, if the Independent car companies want to survive either they'll to merge with one another or have all of em come together to merge into a Corporation and that is AMC and those would be the divisions under AMC.
Great. Thank you for your very useful information. Glad to have you back to my channel.@@CJColvin
@qmusclecars Hey no problem brother
Thanks@@CJColvin
Just like to add a few things. They put 304 V8's in Pacers and they made a 1980 Spirit AMX but with no V8. Thanks!
yes, thank you.
Amazing video❤
Thanks a bunch for watching our muscle cars video!
If you come to the Kenosha history center you can see some renderings that have been done by the original designers of what modern day AMC could have been. There's also cars on display.
Yes, you must be a muscle car enthusiast.
I remember as a kid my 2 much older brothers had AMX's n Javelins. The oldest had a rare AMX with Pierre Cardin interior. Was ugliest interior I've still yet to see! I had an AMC built 77' CJ5 with 3spd and a 304, what a wild ride that was!!
Do you still have your car?
@@qmusclecars I had the CJ5 AMC made traded it years ago like an idiot but I was only 20. My older brothers sold their Javelins and AMX's about 30yrs ago. The 2nd oldest built the 360 that came in the Javelin and it was a nasty greenish factory color. He painted it candy apple red and changed it from auto to a 4spd with a 200 shot. The AMX's the oldest had were all 3 black the 2 had that ugly expensive interior but all 3 had that 401 and that Javelin always smokes them. They were neat cars especially the cockpit of the drivers side of the AMX the way the dash curved and the shifter was like an upside down U with real wood handle. I was only 13 when they had them n they are 15yrs older than me. Oldest is almost 60 now so was a while back....
Are you excited to drive that car?@@chrisspatz1032
Wow, Your going the Xtra " Quarter Mile" to get us some super vid's. Thank you as always❤❤❤.
Thank you. Please continue to watch my videos.
@@qmusclecars For sure.
Thank you@@SunShine-dk6rk
Purple SRT thanks with a touch of blue😁
Thank you. Hope you continue to watch my videos.
There were around 2800 sc/Rambler made, in 2 different paint schemes..
The first Matador machine looks like an AMC Pacer coupe
You can see the car name in my video.
My Uncle bought a new, 1970 Mark Donohue Javelin in orange, and black.
Have you ever driven that car?
A friend of mine had light blue Mark Donahue Javelin 390 4spd 4bbl.
I had a 68 javelin sst,, 290,auto, w/ typhoon kit, also traded for new 69 AMX, 390 4spd, both were great cars, very quick w nice interiors, but in 70 a hemi roadrunner took their place
Yes, you must be a muscle car enthusiast.
Surprised you didn't mentioned the AMX/3...ultra rare...some say 6-7 were built but Dick Teague involved.
Thank you for your information. I will learn about this car. Are you ready to watch it?
When i was in college in the mid 1970’s had a Gremlin with a 401 V8 and that little beast could blow the doors off a Dodge Charger with a 440 V8 because the Gremlin was ridiculously light weight by comparison. 😂
Yes
after owning not one but two Pintos I "stepped Up" to a '72 AMC Gremlin with an inline six and a three speed manual stick shift.....of course having Pintos as priors a wheelbarrow might feel quicker but that six mated to a stick in a "2/3rds" body made for a pretty quick vehicle.......
Do you still have your car?
@@qmusclecars not in decades, sold it for 800 bucks when I graduated from Rutgers College....even had a Craig 8 Track Player!
It's a shame you sold that car.@@agrippa1234
The zoomy camera work made me a bit seasick.
I'm sorry for that. I hope you continue to watch my videos.
You have so many facts wrong. The Amx was built from 68 thru 70, hp was 315 from the 390, the ss amx Pic is not an ss.
Thank you very much. I really need criticism to make me better every day. I will study the script more carefully for the next videos.
AMC made exceptionally appealing cars and only three things crushed their potential success; lack of confidence in their survival by the press, and lack of capital for growth (especially for promotion/advertising), and no presence on the NASCAR scene (because of lack of capital). The big three US car manufacturers had friends in the press who were always leaking articles about AMC being in the financial ropes. That caused the buying public to stay away from AMC as they feared buying a car that could become worth almost nothing overnight and have trouble getting parts and service. It was a sad reality as AMC really made good cars and that was because they had great people at all levels.
Thanks for your information. Where did you get this information?
I lived through it. @@qmusclecars
The matador machine was never a thing. You showed the matador x 401
First car in the video and you’re already wrong. The studebaker golden hawk was faster than the rebel v8, and the corvette
Your information is very interesting. Thank you.
Unfortunately AMC got the public marquee of being simply a Rambler...something old people drove....still have a '70 AMX 360.
Do you drive that car often?
Haven't for awhile as it needs some work but hopefully soon...pretty rare now, especially with only 4,116 built back in the day.@@qmusclecars
You need to get your facts straight. The two seat AMX was made for 3 years, plus AMX carried on in the second generation and even in other models.
Thank you very much. I really need criticism to make me better every day. I will study the script more carefully for the next videos.
The video of the Matador Machine is wrong. The video is of the 74-78 Coupe not the 2 door hardtop made from 71-73. The Matador Machine is the rarest of all AMC true muscle cars. Only 50 were made and only 2 are known to exist
Thank you very much for your comments. I will ask the editing department to reconsider this issue.
I like the content, but the choppy video is annoying.
Thank you very much for your comments. I will ask the editing department to reconsider this issue.
Right-hand drive Australian Ramblers would be rarer.
Thank you for supporting our channel with your views.
11:46 the javelin didnt win many street races "
LOL umm,we all hopped our cars up back then and my 73 amx javelin 401 4 speed was NEVER beaten in street racing,i even beat the King of the Hill down in NC with that car.
there were quite a few of these cars running around bitd, the commentor is speculating with his commentary on a bunch of the details of various amc`s.
So what is the clickbait car in the thumbnail?
I made some adjustments to make the car more interesting. Hope you are satisfied with it.
@@qmusclecars I like it enough that I was highly disappointed it wasn't in the video lol
Yes, thank you very much.@@oddreign
The Matador Machine package was only available in 1971. Why would you show a 1974 ugg-mobile Matador coupe? And where did you get your information on the 1979 Pacer X? Cracker Jack??
The 4.6 Inline 6 was only available in MEXICO and was not used in the USA or Canada. Secondly, the Pacer X is merely a dress-up package of a regular Pacer. There was no such thing as a "Performance Package" for the Pacer. Even the 304-equipped Pacers were still nothing to write home about. Get your facts right and stop producing click-bait.
Thank you. I will learn more information in the next videos.
So much misinformation in this video.. what about the 77 hornet amx, or the 73-77 hornet x.. that gremlin you showed is a gremlin x not a gremlin gt.. 🤦♂️
Yes, thank you.
First of all, the car in the thumbnail doesn't exist and is clickbait. So many inaccuracies, I'm never going to click on a Q Muscle Cars episode again and waste my time. Also, just like in a Tex Avery cartoon: "Due to popular demand, we're going to show you the girl again!"
Thank you very much. I really need criticism to make me better every day. I will study the script more carefully for the next videos.
no 1981 AMC spirit turbocharged amc 4.2 liter efi inline 6 engine with 450 whp pace car...booooo!🥸..AMC ya!🎯
You are a wonderful audience on my channel.
The 390 was not the biggest engine AMC produced the 401 was.
Yeah, he says that at 8:53
Thank you very much. I really need criticism to make me better every day. I will study the script more carefully for the next videos.
Get your facts straight…AMX lasted 3 years NOT 2 years
Yes, thank you.
That Rambler Rebel is not a American car what is that plate the country it’s in I lived just south of of Kenosha
Please watch the video carefully to get the answer.
@@qmusclecars I watched it don’t tell me I don’t know my ramblers slash amc I lived just south of Kenosha I asked a civil question it must be a South America car weird plates and looked a little smaller maybe Brazil
Can you put some effort into your thumbnails instead of using gross looking A.I?
Thank you. I will learn more photoshop to make better photos.
@@qmusclecars you’re the man 👍🏻
Thank you@@dylannelson826
Too much misinformation here 😂
Can you say clearer?
Please dump the goofy voice. If you use your own voice, there won't be mispronunciations.
Can you point out which word I mispronounced? I'm very grateful for that.
everything they made short of the AMX was just proportionately ugly as f.....
I was there and few people went w AMC over chev, ford or dodge. they just were not attractive and the interiors/dash cluster setup was goofy.
They got it right w the AMX and scrapped it after only 2 yrs.....vette is still a two seater and still going.
Thank you for watching my video. Have a good day.
No disrespect to your video bro, keep up the good work!
thank you very much@@richardobryan8041
A slightly thinned down ORIGINAL Marlin wouldbe the perfect AMC.. inch anda half ,,two inch chop,, air ride,,, 401,,, had a Javelin ,,, wish I still had it....
Have you ever owned that car?
Another stupid AI generated thumbnail pic for attention and click bait. I'm not watching your video!
Don't you realize that's a 1969 AMC AMX 390 SS?
@@qmusclecars that's really not a recognizable Javelin sst
Yes, thank you.@@mr.b2107
@@qmusclecars not sure your getting it. The stupid AI generated pic is not accurate, it looks like a amalgamation of Cutlass on back sides. Firebird on front sides and I don't know what the hell that is in the front.
This is total joke. 😂
Can you say clearer? I do not understand you.
AMC was garbage and any good car was only made for a year or didn't make more than a few like the javelin and amx but the rebel was my favorite but you can't find one only made for 1 year the rebel had everything
Do you still have your car?
