The premise was that the actor who played Superman in the show Smallville was disappointed that he never really got to be Superman since the show ends right when he gets his costume. She’s freaking crazy and I love her. The Broadway Lion King is an absolute spectacle that stands on its own from the original film.
    I know Favreau wanted to do 2019 Lion King as the same story in a different medium, but film is a much more literal medium than theater. With the musical you knew it was an adaptation of the original film and you give it suspension of disbelief. With the remake, it comes off as just rehashing the original. It’s like how Frank Oz had to change the ending of the Little Shop of Horrors movie, which originally had the musical’s downer ending where humanity is eaten by Audrey II, because the audience wouldn’t get to see Seymour and Audrey’s actors take a bow and show they’re fine at the end of the movie.
    The remake would’ve earned some points though if it used He Lives in You or Shadowland from the musical, though. It was nice to see Zazu’s line about Mufasa as a cub get lifted from the musical, at least, and a few other nods like the mouse.

    • @Sea-Salt
      @Sea-Salt 3 роки тому +3

      @@Sea-Salt My idea for a live action Lion King remake that takes inspiration from the Broadway musical is doing something similar to the 1973 film adaptation of Jesus Christ Superstar where it’s a group of tourists re-enacting the plot of The Lion King using the familiar African culture elements from the Broadway show like the instruments, masks and costumes but without the puppets.

      Because the idea of the Green goblin or norman Osborne in general, Is that he Is suppoust to be a Lex Luthor type of villain pretending to be a Joker type of villain. He Is just as menacing as both a guy in a suit as a guy in disguise making it a pretty unique type of villain making it seems like he Is always in control of His loonasy. The movie tried to make him More sympathetic by giving him the Split personality trait that it works for someone like two face, or even scarface, but for him it just make him look pathetic, even though William Dafoe is friggin enjoyable as the goblin he isn't writting like the comics did him. The best version of norman Osborne was in spectacular Spiderman, if you saw that series he makes Dafoe look like Arnold as mr freeze in Batman and Robin. I hope the sequel from the ps4 Spiderman give Is the same character, since in the first one norman was already a piece of shit person with octavius.

    Watching "Across the Universe" while studying in middle school motivated me to learn more about the american political background of the 60th and to get across the amazing world of the Beatles' songs (still my favorite band up to this date). This kind of influence on people's minds is the aim of the true art, so great respect to the brilliant Julie Taymor!

    I'm honestly surprised that Taymor's Spiderman didn't include Mysterio. That seems like it would've been the perfect villain for her to go nuts with; a character that seems tailor made to work with her style.

    One thing I like about her work is that she takes one shape/thing, and it’s the main idea of the story which helps in design. For the Lion King, it was a circle. For Tempest, it was a sand castle. Midsummer: a bed.

    I never actually went to college, but I hung around a friend or two that was on campus or in the last bits of a class before I was driving them home, and my stage/acting pal knew a lot about Taymor and her works (which was topped by Across The Universe at the time, since I'm fucking old), so he showed it to me. The opinion I've come to settle on with her is she's a genius who can paint a puppet show with actors in the place of colors. She could probably score a movie with John Kage's 4'33", or turn a knock-knock joke into a character. She's an abstract, beautiful nightmare that stays in the mind in the best of ways, and I'm glad NC put the magnifying glass to her talents~

    Lion King has been my absolute favorite Broadway show I’ve seen (saw it in late 2009).
    Spider-Man was okay such as the action and set designs, but yeah the story overcomplicated and over explained many things.
    The absolute worst part of it though was uncle Ben’s death. When he gets hit by a f’ing car when he was supposed to be murdered.
    I know changes are always made adapting a comic, but you should never change something that massive.
    Though I saw an early preview, and did see they made it more accurate in the final version.
