Townes Van Zandt and yes he has. I've always wanted to go there and now I now how to pronounce it! Thanks for the behind the scenes look and history. I love Townes, Guy, Jerry and of course WILLIE!! But on The rock side I'd hafta say Roky Ericson
Love your channel Chet. Marty Stuart is my favorite, I haven't seen his band there. I've seen 50 years of bands but the best show I've ever seen was the Arc Angels at GH, awesome. 🎸 Other faves at GH were, Asleep at the Wheel, REK, Raul Malo (without the Mavericks) & Randall King.
This is the Dance Hall I went to with my now husband in 1981 when living in San Antonio. I remember the wooden tables & benches and it seemed so big back then and so packed with people dancing and the music was excellent. We were only 18 and was able to get in with hubby's step dad and we had so much fun. Love those young memories.
I was blessed to catch King George back in the day as well as Merle and Hal Ketchum and a few older school country treasures. Local legends like Robert Earl Keen. I even saw the Marshall Tucker Band couple times there. Now that I'm older, I'm diggin these younger bands coming to Gruene that call themselves "Red Dirt" and "Americana". Gruene Hall is a gift from God himself to us Texans. It's such a jewel of a place. Thanks Chet!!! 👍🏻
The memories there! My Aunt got married there, I drank my first beer there, my little brother got drunk for the first time there lol, and the list goes on!
Who's your favorite Texas music artist? Have they played at Gruene Hall?
George Strait
