Our team of international allies have joined together to support the
Wixarika Nation and their request for aid to protect their sacred lands
of Wirikuta, their sacred medicines, and their cultural way of life.
Currently, our team is raising $200,000 to purchase 500 acres of land
in the desert of Mexico near San Luis Potosi. This area is a World
Heritage Site declared by UNESCO is under threat to mining
companies and tomato plantations. The Wixarika Nation has been
pilgriming to the desert for thousands of years and now look to their
children to carry their way of life forward. However, without the lands
themselves, their way of life and the future for their children is put in
danger. The heart of their culture and their creation story rests in
these lands and in the sacred site of Wirikuta. The Wirikuta
Preservation Project has been initiated by myself, the CEO of For
Goodness Sake, and the direction of our intertribal relations, Santiago
Alonso, in order to help The Wixarika Nation receive their land band,
and thus initiate Indigenous land restitution efforts for their people.
