I love that his songs sound like the greatest RPGs I have ever played. Nostalgia comes back and inspires me to create something like this. Kim Jung Geol is similar.
I just bought the "Best Of" book/CD called "Oriel" yesterday, just so I can learn to play this song. :) Thankfully it seems to be one of the easier pieces by Masaaki (no barre chords!), so I have hope I can learn it in a reasonable time. Now I can't stop listening to that song on the CD. It's so calming and soothing like no other guitar piece. You just gotta love this man.
@ShitPickle62 its a 'Water Road' guitar made by japanese luthier Akio Masuda they are the most beautiful works of art i have ever seen his is a SJ model :) hope this helps
@stuandnat deffo, has the Nobuo Uematsu and Yasunori Mitsuda feel to it. 1:04 especially sounds like the little melodic run in Wind Scene from Chrono Trigger.
Masaaki-sensei was inspired that night. A perfect version of a perfectly beautiful song. Besides Sungha Jung, you might like Ewan Dobson, different style (different from anything!) but amazing, Andy McKee and check the links you get. Also Tanaka Akihiro is someone who should have more music more available...great, great talent and plays with passion.
wow this guy is awesome. i just stumbled upon him. I noticed one person mentioned kim jung geol. can someone mention other players that play similarly?
I think so.But I always has the capo on second fret.SO there is one problem,when I play 1:56 on this vedio,I have to use my little finger to play 6th string/6th fret.Maybe it is a little difficult.So Masaaki has the capo on the 4th fret.
@fgnscalater hmm... from the looks of it i think it's just his fingers, i'm not sure if he's using fake nails because some guitarists do that but i think it's just his fingers
I have a question. this song is usually played in DADF#AD with a capo on second fret. but here Masaaki has the capo on the third fret. so does that mean he initially tuned his guitar to Db Ab Db F Ab Db? When i try DADF#AD with a capo on the third fret it sounds really crappy.
Music at it's best. Something so simple, yet it's totally perfect, and anything else would ruin it. Simply amazing :)
this guys a legend
This song is absolutely beautiful, and the guitarist is amazing!!! His playing is so clean.
My uncle is my guitar teacher and he taught me this song.
I never get bored listenning to this . its an amasing composition. As far as I am concerned, Masaaki is a genius.
playing this song for my final exam it's challenging but it's so pretty when i manage to play it all the way through!! great performance!
i can't believe the last comment on this video was 6 moths ago. This is a great song........
How did I miss this one? It is stunningly haunting. Beautiful.

Oh my lord that was beautiful
That was beautiful, I gonna have to listen to it again.
flawlessly simple and beautiful.....a magical performance.
I love that his songs sound like the greatest RPGs I have ever played. Nostalgia comes back and inspires me to create something like this. Kim Jung Geol is similar.
Whenever i feel angry i find myself here to calm myself.

@feilog
He plays "Water Road" guitar (made in JAPAN)
maker is "Akio Masuda"
This can only create 10 handmade, so each year.
only a word : WOW
it is not the fact that one performs his song but the way massaaki interprets it....
This song draws a Harbor in my mind.. somehows...
Bravo
I knew him through a guitar performance of my senpai, I never forget that time!!
@ShitPickle62 its a 'Water Road' guitar made by japanese luthier Akio Masuda
they are the most beautiful works of art i have ever seen
his is a SJ model :)
hope this helps
unreal
@powerdesa Thank you...we'll be here all week.
one word god
Andy Mckee did a cover of this song on his new EP. The original is so good!!!
I think I just saw heavens gates.... Just beautiful.
i can lay this song :D
좋다
Beautiful song, I wonder why he puts the capo on the 3rd fret when playing live though. In the album version he plays the song on the 2nd fret.
คิดถึงน้องยาวมากๆนะ^^
Capo is on the 3rd fret
@Qpidon
Yeah! Just never get bored!
@hofei
Your performances are also very good!
If ever a song sounded like the end of an RPG...
@stuandnat deffo, has the Nobuo Uematsu and Yasunori Mitsuda feel to it. 1:04 especially sounds like the little melodic run in Wind Scene from Chrono Trigger.
@feilog it look like a Taylor Grand Auditorium but the headstock don't look like a Taylor.
i think it's an handmade guitar made by a luthier
awesome. love to learn this. where can i get the music?
@SamIbanez351 In this song he use Open D (DADF#AD) sometimes he use DADGAD tuning
simple song to play. impossible to play it like this :(
yeah, bro!
it's hard to produce such a quality sound.
How he manages to make this flawless sound is quite amazing.
Nothing is impossible, it's all about practice

This song sounds so calming..only if my guitar could sound like that..any tip for making a guitar with no amp plug to sound like that?
@feilog it looks like the newer paul reed smith or PRS acoustic guitars
@7kunchan I bet that means this song fucking rocks!
It seems to be a "Grand auditorium" model (the shape suggests it), probably made by a Luthier.
shoot ,, my tear just came out when i heard this part: 1:18. LOL can't believe myself !!
wow this guy is awesome. i just stumbled upon him. I noticed one person mentioned kim jung geol. can someone mention other players that play similarly?
@tobethelight It's too bad he doesn't have a website. I'd love to view other guitars he's built.
@feilog He's just add effects on his electro acoustic
Beautiful stuff, this kinda crap speaks to your soul.
Are they sold outside of Japan? Do they have a website? I like the sound of his guitar and I wouldn't mind trying a water road out for myself.
@vulcanraven188 Sungha Jung. He plays mostly covers, but very well and adds a lot of flare to them. He has originals if you dig into his page.
I think so.But I always has the capo on second fret.SO there is one problem,when I play 1:56 on this vedio,I have to use my little finger to play 6th string/6th fret.Maybe it is a little difficult.So Masaaki has the capo on the 4th fret.

@bearcolin It's ok.
@holysmile
there's a tab on Ultimate Guitar.com
he is playing through an amp, theres a lead at the back, try adding reverb aswell if you dont have an electro acoustic
BPL stream
Nevermind...thanks soccerfish07.
@chrisdkdk open D tuning, buddy
wird if U played in DADF#AD with a capo in 3 hould be good
he has the capo on 3'rd :P
I mean what brand
try a little reverb at 75% bass (diff on all pickups) and vibrato the notes.
emotion wise, i can't say much >.<
@johnfinbarburke thats 3 :P
I can see it's an acoustic!
Does anyone know what kind of guitar he play? (Please, no one respond with, "acoustic", or "steel string"...that much is apparent)
わたしはこの3カポの「花」のほうが好きです。
How did you find this info?
How does he tune his guitar?
I thought he had a giant foot for so long
Is that Apoyando ?
@MrTOSOS That's not what I asked
What kind of Guitar is he playing?
@mpv1010 10 per yer?! Well, in this case he can't be a good guitar maker if he doesn't practice his craft all the time :P
acoustic guitar i guess...
@chrisdkdk DAF# DAD
nah it's DADF#AD
lol
sorry i can't help you...
sit in a big empty room (:
