more personality than many a sportsman can muster. and the reason i still go to the national now. 3oth year this time, not including bomb scares and convid, only ever saw him lead the parade of champions and he was cheered like he'd just won another.
How in gods name did that horse go round that course with its fearsome fences 5 times never finishing outside the top 2 is probably the greatest sporting achievement ever by man or beast 👏
Best horse ever..loved him, I choke every time I watch his national runs. There will never be another one as graceful as him over those fences. A true hero.
RIP RUMMY you are greatest wherever I see your races from 1973 to 77 I shed a tear why because you was a very special horse 🐎 Ran the Nationals 5 times 3 times a incredible Winner 2 times Runner up Also he he has never fallen ever amazing RIP the peoples favourite 100%
A remarkable horse. Even when his chances of winning that elusive ground breaking grand national seemed impossible after 2 runner up positions in 1975 and 1976, Red Rum defied all odds and claimed his holy grail with his historic 1977 win. The king of Aintree was back where he belonged at the top of the tree. As luck would have it, Red Rum retired as champion too due to an injury. In retirement Red Rum enjoyed his celebrity status, quite simply there will never be another horse that touched peoples hearts like the late great Red Rum. RIP Grand National King.
I remember his last run I wanted him to be pulled up so he could live.He won it..his last GN. I sob my heart out when I see him. Rummy..you were the BEST
I'm his biggest fan no one knows him more than me I love him so much r.i.p rest in peace boy who was a great racehorse and I miss him because he's dead and not coming back r.i.p and rest in peace u will be missed
First horse I ever won money on and won' the National when it was a killer of a course to complete. Shame he suffered a late hairline fracture which kept him out of the 1978 race and would loved him to have won and ended with a record of 1,1,2,2,1,1.
RIP.Red Rum never to be forgotten.youre the magic national horse.born to run win the national.love you darling.thanks for the magic memorys.love respect from i wolf paul.

@@duffduffbeerbeer it surely was Chris 'I was present at the Grand national 1981 and it was Fab very emotional. I was a big Spartan Missile fan n may be if John Francome had ridden him I think he would of caught Aldanti possibly

Great horse, but still can't forgive him for beating Crisp!
Yes my dad was at that national and he's never seen anything like it since
Crisp was a superior horse. He did defeat Red Rum comprehensively at level weights in a race after the 73 GN.
