    So, I decided to pickup a clarinet over a cheap soprano sax and is liking it a lot more than I expected. Think the lower register aligning with alto sax helped get me over some initial hurdles and, since I tend to read in concert pitch due to my low brass upbringing, switching between the Eb alto lower register and Bb sopranissimo upper register fingering isn't that bad, though, that Bb-A-G "break" is going to be challenge to get down.
    Anyway, I bring it up because I've seen a lot of people with Backun barrels & bells yet remember seeing a different bell on your clarinet and was wondering what type you use and how you feel different bells/barrels affects your sound?

    Adriene, tell me your thoughts on why the Canonball VR mouthpiece feels much better compared with a Guardala MB II? I believe the brand mouthpieces are all hype and the production cost is no nore than 20$ with a 90% margin unless is entirely handmade.

      I haven't played the Guardala MB II. If you have them and the Cannonball feels better, I would first take a look at the tip opening. My Cannonball mpc is a 5* so it is very comfortable. I don't know if any of the MBII's came with a tip opening that low. The angle at which the mouthpiece and the reed separate (facing curve) may be very steep on the MB II also. Keep in mind that real gold and silver are used in high dollar plated mouthpieces. Michael Brecker worked with Guardala to produce the MB series mouthpieces also. ABS plastic mouthpieces are a different story all together though. They in fact are super cheap to produce

      @@Sirvalorsax I absolutely agree with your words 👍. The other day was trying to play Bird "Now's the time' comparing the MB II with the Canonball. There was impossible to keep up with the fast transitions with the MBII which is a 8*. However the Canonball was "a piece of cake". PS: I'm playing sax for 10 months but feels to be playing for much longer

      @@Sirvalorsax most likely the greats were playing in the range of 5* and going bigger tips 8,9,10 are just a reflection of our society bigger, faster. But not necessarily better or happier

    Hi, thanks a lot for your videos.
    Are you sure that these mouthpieces are not toxic?
    I know that most of cheap versions of hard rubber mouthpieces from china are made of Bakelite that is a quite toxic material.
    I don't have informations about metal ones.

      Bakelite is not toxic, isn't it? Rubber mouthpieces are not really made out of rubber, it is bakelite I believe

      @ryancrow2773 3 роки тому +1

      @@jazzman_10 they are made of a combination of latex and sulfur that creates the material that is called hard rubber or ebonite

    • @jokai1
      @jokai1 3 роки тому +1

      @@jazzman_10 It's not the same thing, hard rubber is 'ebonite', it doesn't resist at all to high temperatures. if you put your mouthpiece in hot water, you will see oxydation, the coulour will change from black to brown. Bakelite is much cheaper, it resists very well to high temperature and often contains asbestos (it's not forbidden to use it in china). (I'm not a native english speaker, I'm not totally sure about the specific words that I use, sorry if there are mistakes)

    Silver and gold are heavy metals and toxic in various forms. But so are clubs...... and chicks (as I recall) .

    I'm a 50 year old. A beginner, about 6 months into alto sax. My "buying philosophy" is: I need everything possible going for me. If i bought a cheap mouthpiece, I wouldn't know if it was a dud. I don't even know the difference between a good and a bad reed.
    I know I'm not ready to appreciate more expensive mouthpieces. no matter how pretty the look, or how sweet and smooth Mr Sirvalorsax makes em sound.
    I'll stick to my Yamaha 4C for another year.... maybe then I'll clear a shelf and start the collection..
