    Reviewers always compare the Integra to Hyundai but there is no comparison when it comes to reliability whether it's compared to Audi, Mercedes, or now Cadillac. Long term reliability and maintenance costs far exceed what you'd get in a Honda and as an actual owner, that cost matters.

    • @TheBreakfastLover
      @TheBreakfastLover Рік тому +4

      AWD would be wishful thinking as the Integra/Civic platform wasn't designed for SH-AWD. However, the 10-speed automatic from the TLX Type S would've been reasonable. We know that transmission can pair with the CTR-related 2.0T from the TLX A-spec/prior Accord, and it can handle at least 355 hp/354 lb-ft from the TLX Type S. Perhaps Acura has that in the works?

Might go back to drive that Type S while I wait to drive an ITS. I think Acura is making great cars for the money. Looks are subjective, and to each his own, but the ITS and TLX S are good looking cars to me. As an aside, drove a Lexus IS350 FS at the dealer next door. Not a fan. Salesman sat in the car with me. Automatic negative. Acura guy just gave me the keys and said enjoy - the way it should be.

      According to Matt Farrah from the Smoking Tire, they have the capacity to double the output of the CTR. While that’s not crazy numbers, it’s a far cry from limited . The demand is just nuts right now. One dealer in Atlanta has a list of 80 buyers with an initial allocation of 10 cars. They have the highest allocation numbers I’ve seen in GA, AL, TN, SC, and NC. But they aren’t charging over sticker so people are lining up to buy from them.

    While I much prefer RWD or AWD... At least this Integra Type S has one of the best FWD setups out there between... Using a dual axis strut front suspension. One of the best mechanical Helical LSD's available. Very wide 265 mm Michelin PS4 tires... Plus, with the adjustable adaptive suspension, you can set the suspension in it's stiffest setting which helps prevent some of the weight transfer to the rear tires upon take off, versus a softer suspension that will allow more of the weight to come off the front tires. For a FWD, it's pretty darn impressive! I would definitely buy one if I were in the market. I like the Civic Type R, but I'd want to remove the rear wing... This is that car, but with more features as well. $52k+ is pretty steep for a car like this though. Freaking inflation is mainly at fault for this though. Anyway, as usual, great review of an amazing machine, Matt! Very nicely done! 👍

    *Flame suit on* I keep seeing to the same comments over and over again which I think completely miss the point.
    1) Not AWD. If you want AWD you have the TLX Type S which would probably fractionally more expensive than what the price would have been with a SH-AWD ITS. You're missing the point. It's supposed to be a nimble canyon carver which is able to keep up with cars double it's price in the twisties, not a 0-60 queen where you can brag how fast it accelerates from a stoplight.
    2)Moonroof. I'm actually happy there isn't one. Less weight, less things to leak/fail and realistically they are useless. Next to no air comes in and if it's open, more often than not you get bad glare from the sun. Why do half measures, buy a convertible if you want the wind in your hair.
    3) Value. Buy once, cry once. Don't get me wrong, F**K dealers who sell it for a dollar more than MSRP, don't buy it, but those claiming it's too expensive for what it is (at MSRP) have probably never owned a Honda/Acura. Yes they are declining from their glory years but for someone who intends to keep the car for more than warranty period, the IT-S *should* easily give you 10 years of redline fun with nothing but scheduled maintenance. With the exception of the GR Corolla, there's no other car remotely similar in nature or price point that will give you that kind of long term value.

      Acura already has the SH-AWD system, just slap it on. AWD will help immensely with the handling. It will eliminate torque steer. No amount of engineering will get rid of torque steer. When a vehicle accelerates, the weight transfers to the back wheels, and the back wheels is were there is traction. The AWD will help with that. It also helps with control and safety overall. For all these benefits, I would not mind an extra 500 pounds and an extra $5,000 to the price.

    Hey Matt always appreciate your videos and thoughts. I have a 2020 FK8. I am first in line with a deposit to a dealer that is selling it to me at MSRP. Do you think the Type S is a step up? Can you please compare the FK8 to the Type S ? I would really appreciate your input.

      Congrats on finding a great dealer and being first in line! Obviously the Type S will feel pretty similar to the FK8 from a powertrain standpoint, but to me the shifter is even a little bit better, the exhaust is way cooler, and the suspension is a bit more livable, even though the refreshed FK8's comfort mode is also very good. It'll be fairly small, incremental improvements in driving dynamics. But you also get the much better infotainment system, the fantastic stereo, more comfortable seats, more sound deadening, etc. Everyone's preferences are different but I'd 100% upgrade to a Type S if I had an FK8 and had the extra money to spend on the upgrade.

    • @dsher503
      @dsher503 Рік тому +1

      Depending on the condition of your FK8 and how many miles it has, you can probably get over what you paid for it by selling and come out ahead as long as you aren't stretching to pay for the ITS at msrp.

    Honda did not learn anything from the rsx. When the civic Si got 200hp it was a cheaper rsx amd peole bought the Si shocker! Now the typeS is just an expensive typeR

    • @Marbind
      @Marbind 7 місяців тому

      So in the past honda sold a similar vehicle for less.
      Then today Honda is selling a similar vehicle for less too.
      I don't know what is the surprise here. Is was like this always. 🤷‍♂
      You forgot to mention that the SI was released in 2006 the same model year that the RSX was removed from Acuras line up.
      Learn about the history pal.

    • @blue_lancer_es
      @blue_lancer_es 7 місяців тому

      @@Marbind oof course I should learn my history. Like the first civic Si came out in 85. There was an integra from 86 up. Now lets compare.
      86 Si 1.5 12v 86 integra 1.6 dohc 16v
      90 civic Si d16 90 integra b18.
      See the difference? Yes the honda was cheaper for less car. But lets continue.
      94 Si d16 vtec 94 integra b18 vtec
      99 Si b16 160hp 99 gsR b18 180hp. (See there are still differences up to that point)
      Then 2002 ep3 came out being essentially the same rsx base model down to the drivetrain weight ect. (see how the Si caught up to the integra? Well rsx. )
      Then in 2006 the Si was going to have the the exact same numbers as the rsx even having the first sedan in Si trim(in the US but since I don't know the history I couldn't tell you that japan had Si sedan trims since the late 80s)
      Now to recap just in case. Yes the acura should be more expensive but should also be more car. The new base spec integra makes no sense against the civic Si. It costs more for not more substance. The typeS vs typeR is also non sense since its just a typeR with better interior and 5 more horses.
      Now if the typeS would of been awd even with the same power figures(it would be heavier i know) it would differentiate it self from the typeR.
      But hell I still need to read history I guess.

    • @Marbind
      @Marbind 7 місяців тому

      Yup check your history again.
      You never had been inside a current integra 1.5T 6mt right?
      I can tell by your statement that "it cost more for not more substance".
      The ITS has more than a mere 5hp. Look savagegeese mini documentary for the dyno comparison. In that video you will see that the whole purpose of this car is to bring the same CTR formula and make it more daily friendly. They did a great job.
      Again your history knowledge have a few holes.

    I have a 17 FK8 and 98 ITR. I find this car a bit contradictive with the flares and crackling exhaust. Yet the car has seats that won't support you for the track and softer suspension settings compared to the FK8/FL5. As mentioned in the video, it seems the Type S was built for street use and is an exercise in maxing out the sales of this platform by reusing the the same chassis, engine, transmission, brakes, suspension etc as FK8 and FL5. I'm sure they will sell plenty. On the upside, Type S sales may lead to slighly reduced FL5 demand and increased availability.

    Matt, curious why you think Honda is limiting production of the ITS? A dealer I have a deposit with says they are only getting an allotment of 9 cars this year. Corvette seems to be able to match production with demand for the Stingray. As a result of limiting production, all Long Island dealers are charging an ADM, but it is not as bad of the CTR's ADM

    • @MattMaranMotoring
      @MattMaranMotoring  Рік тому +2

      SavageGeese mentioned in their video that Honda is limiting it, I’m assuming partially because they can only build so many of these engines and Type R is the priority, and partially because they don’t want it to be too common. I don’t have any solid info on why though.

    • @briangasser973
      @briangasser973 Рік тому

      Thanks for the answer. I am getting stuck with $2500 ADM for the ITS. At least that is cheaper than any ADM I have seen on a CTR. I'm curious why you say the CTR is a priority when Honda can make $7k more on each ITS vs CTR? I think the profit margin on the ITS has to be greater.

    • @MattMaranMotoring
      @MattMaranMotoring  Рік тому +2

      It's not about profit for this car, it's because the Type R is sold internationally and the Integra is only sold in North America. Honda is more worried about fulfilling the huge demand globally, which is why Japan sales are prioritized for the Type R, making them scarce here in the U.S. Pulling engines from the Type R when there's way more demand for Type R than Integra would be counterintuitive for them.
