  • This was a new one for me, at a chill spot that I regularly visit at the Sauble River on the Bruce Peninsula. I've never seen such big clams before in the river, and thanks to the Clam Counter app I was able to learn a ton more. I had no idea there is 41 species of clams in Ontario alone, and they can live over 100 years. Have a look next time you are exploring the rivers or lakes of Ontario 🙌😎

In Malaysia...our crocodiles speak to riverbed clams to grant them 3 food wishes: human flesh, monkey flesh and the flesh of chututulamatu (virgin orangutan).

Eastern Elliptios are not endangered. They're the most abundant mussel species in Ontario.

Hey Matty the dirty side of the clam is up. Check out your post, all good brauh. I think the clams valves have to be in water to breath and eat not in sand? Not sure

Yes mathew, outdoor as usual. I've never seen them alive and open. I think it would have been easier if the app allows you to take the picture and it brings up the correct clam

Hi Matt. Cool video. I live on the waterfront in Vaudreuil Quebec and we have a lot of them down on the shore near our dock. The muskrats love to feast on them. I've seen the empty shells but never looked for the living ones under the sand. I don't know what type they are but I will check the app tomorrow and see if I can find out. Thanks for the video!! Take care.

its good that they stay hidden it makes it even harder for zebra mussels to choke them out they get even bigger then that i once found half a sell on lake erie that was about the size of a dinner plate i took it a guy down the road from me and he said the clam is possibly one of the oldest he has ever seen and probably died a couple years ago they are hard to spot or fine because they stay hidden most there lives
