“It’s set at 1000, ya know, real mild, streetable….” 😳
My favorite muscle car video and car. too cool, and yes I want one!
i love how alot of toms clients are seniors hah
It will get that job done with no problem. I just hope the old timer doesn't develop a vacuum leak in the process.
Dodge hellcat couldn't touch that,, very beautiful car dude !!
I'm sure you're on all your neighbors Christmas card list .......
Lol doing about 60 in a 25
What a beast very impressive .and well crafted.
Awesome build congrats & thanks for posting the video. I'm a little disappointed it's not a Pontiac engine though. They have after market aluminum Pontiac blocks now that can be punched out to over 600 cubic inches & huge Ram Air 5 type heads on 2200 HP turbo charged engines like the one Justin Shearer aka Big Chief has in his car. Yes I'm a PONTIAC MANIAC!!! "IN THRUST WE TRUST"
Jet Engine Thrust big chiefs engine was a 482 though....
holy shit brotha thats some art right there, great lookin ride and even better looking engine
a race track has turns in it, a drag strip is straight.
If God drove a car, this is what it sound like!
The factory radio is a nice touch :-)
love the videos, just curious why every turbo motor i see you test drive sounds like it has an off idle stumble from a dead stop.
I wonder if he puts the engine in the car by removing the front axle and installing through the bottom like they do in the factory?
this NEEDS bigger turbos, 6psi WHAATTTT, thats just fucking crazy that engine must have a stroke of 5 gigalitres
I know 2000 hp is alot to handle for tires, but in the 21st century I'm sure he could get the rubber and suspension setup so it hooks instantly. I'd love to see the G's once that's done.
It would be nice just to have one of these around the shop....
Fast. As Tom said, it'll go 7's, cars that go 7's trap anywhere from around 175 to 200+ mph, depending on weight, torque/hp, etc.
For comparison, Larry Larson performed a 6.9 second pass at 209 mph with a few thousand RPM left to go. Big Red (NORC/Silver State Classic Camaro - big block, all motor) was doing 230 mph back in the 80's on open Nevada highway. Given room, Larson's Nova, this Pontiac etc. should have enough grunt for 250+ mph before they hit an aerodynamic wall.
Any videos of this car on the track?
I love how the fuel pump running at 2:11 sounds like any other car has already been started... Them aint no small rear tires either.
About as street-able as a 7 sec car get's I guess .... granted its probability a hell of a lot easier to drive then a Pro Stock mountain motor is on the street.
You should jump up on the highway and stab the gas for about 2 miles, just to test the highway drive-ability!
@gokartmaster123
Did you just say turbos are sluggish at an engines top end? When the hell do you think they make power?
The guy drives it like a Japanese motorcycle Crank that sumbitch up and drive it like you stole it son
He is right, granted at the amount of power they have...gas mileage is not really there, but you can turbo or super charge a car and not ruin your gas mileage by much if at all, unless you well drive it like you stole it. but if you drive it normal...don't get in the gas. you won't mess up your gas mileage
Yeah, smallblocks maybe.. And thats only when you're idling down the highway, staying completely out of the power.. So yes, less power used = less fuel used.
Rarely hear a man saying that his wife is ecstatic with a hot-rod.
I've never heard 1000hp described as "real, real mild" before.
Think i could put 1 of these in my '70 challenger :)?
Lebaron thank you
its not my argument its yours hence the reason you started it. i was just saying your the one talking about respective venues when between ricers and muscle cars they all can do the same thing just as well...
Damn, man. You could take her out on the highway and make five-o cry & shit their pants.
F'n Sweet Tempest!...
So is that half throtle of 1000 hp?
1200+hp to go get groceries....love it.
what kind of shifter is that
hahah, no doubt. i also wish i could afford such a sexy machine
The millenium falcon has fewer switches in the cockpit
Got a '64 tempest.. how much for the engine haha??.. all mines got is a stock 389
Sick
i dont think that mpg was the intent when this engine was built
beautifull machine , love it.
5 people are mad that at 1000 Rpm's it makes more HP and Ft lbs of Torque then there civic's.
Yes, the gas mileage isn't really there at all.. That's why I said the dog33 guy must have been joking when he said "these don't get that bad of gas mileage" It's best not to even bring up mpg's when one is talking about big blocks! LOL
That's crazy!
truthfully unless ur just driving it like u stole it these dont get that bad of gas mileage with the turbos
how many gas galons per inch?
it actually was awhile ago
wtf do you need 1000 HP and twin hairdryers, to tool around at 2ooo rpm. You're going to hell to light a cigarette, and with a car like that, how it hooks at the track is what matters.
wow! 1000 hp and only 6 psi! fuck yeah big blocks the shit!
what does that mean
Big Block Chev in a PONTIAC...What a travesty
its funny reading all the comments that say bad things cause its a automatic when will kids learn that no matter what when it comes to real racing and automatic is gonna be faster then a manual everyday of the week hands down
NOOOOOOOO i mean there sdluggish at bottom end lol
jesus christ i feel like i smoked a shit ton of meth for the first 11 seconds lol
I want one of those..
2JZ Supra killer
Just a little miss once in awhile?
Poor comparison. This guy chose to have a 2,000hp engine. I did not choose to have 2 balls.
Can y'all build me a Ford 460 for my truck?
very streetable -_____-
no civics have to change bodys every 3000 miles not oil....besides gm small block and even some big blocks are damn near industructable
Did he just hit the American version of V-Tec???
If your worried about how much fuel it burns then go watch fucking prius videos.
51 other people also spell it "there" :P
think and tell me does it really matter for spelling on the interwebz?
Bad Ass
"their"
must be a bitch to repack the shoot at every light ;-) haha nice ride
u need to bring that round my street and show all these chavs that there nissan micra aint fast :)
lmfao.. that dude wow..
i was like "no way that would fit in a car"...
and then 1:18 came and i was like holy shit...
" I can't imagine what a 90 year old couple would need with a car like this." The same reason a 48 year old would, intimidate & destroy everything in its path.
only coming from toms mouth will you hear the phrase "its only set at like 1000hp right now, so a real real mild setup" hahaha bot many can say 1000 is "mild"
i know....hes a proper badman!
1000 just for the street just because the other 400 is a little too much...ok
I am convinced that if you need a hot rod engine and you can afford it go to Nelson Racing Engines and let Tom hook you up with what ever your heart desires. Apparently, he can build that twin turbo set up on any motor. I would love to see it on a Boss 429 engine.
I thought it was a tempest like a corsica lol
money well spent!!!!
Apples to oranges, my friend. Your muscle cars are just as easy to make fun of if you imagine them trying to take corners on a mountain road. Lets keep to our respective venues, shall we?
3:57 'that's half throttle' ----> i was like holy shit :O
OMG HOLY SHIT nice also u do know u get more power out of a carburetor because with a fuel injector u are limited on the supply of air and gas with carburetor u have have way more air and gas because direct air flow and a super charger would be better because u dont have loss in hp u lose a lil bit of torque but its worth itand u may slug in begining but u dont lose top end turbos sluggy at top end
dude if i dont know what im talking about then why do pro dragsters use carburetors its not because there lazy and dont wanna put them on if they could they would use those to make as much hp as possible why dont we ask tom nelson?? hes the pro soo yeah lets ask him
So far that’s the best looking car you have built I just love those little pony act like that and I love the paint job on that car you build the best cars out there and maybe one day I’ll get you to build me one like that if I ever win the lottery so congratulations on a beautiful car wherever the owner is Mr. Nelson you made for me NASCAR
I think it uses 1 liter of gas on 6 km when you drive it normally without pressing full Throtlle
Yes, I know turbo's don't damage the mpg's too much if you don't spool them, But I wouldn't say the same thing about supercharging, considering their constant parasitic drag on the engine...
But c'mon, he's right you say? A twin turbo 2000hp big block "don't get that bad of gas mileage"?!? compared to what? an aircraft carrier?!? Even if he drove it like a grandma (which would be pointless) I bet it would still struggle to break 5mpg!! LOL
Yup guaranteed! And it's not just for the huge engines either.. I remember how shocked I was when I found out how thirsty Mazda's wankel equipped RX-7's were! Just 1.3L yet they drink more fuel than a V-8!! Sucks how all the most entertaining engines guzzle gas. : (
nice one , but wait till some rich dude brings a civic to tom and tom scratches his head and has a think about it , im sure tom would have enough experience and the skill to quickly learn to make a quick 4 cylinder too.....you wont look so smart then hey?
Superchargers don't take it down but about 2mpg, because of the other mods you have to do to the car. They don't ruin it the gas mileage unless you get in it, and as i said in my first comment, with the power they have, gas mileage isn't really there at all.
The owner of this car is gonna have a heart attack at the wheel if he ever gets into it. You need to be in shape to drive a monster like this. I can't imagine what a 90 year old couple would need with a car like this.
@supra1 well yeah 30k a year is barely above the canadian poverty line of 25k...i make 33k a year working at tim hortons man....u can't expect to build something liek this making less thana tim hortons wage
Nelson is fuckin crazy! 2000hp? like the owner said,ya cant use it? I went on their website and they build 355,408,572! and bigger! That's a death wish! Only place u should see 2000hp,is at the dragstrip!
Well in that matter ya I hope he is kidding.. lol. and ya know...hell when it comes to anything muscle/sport car related then gas mileage is not something you worry about because it will be shitty
the drag strip is obvious, but if you hate on japanese cars because they dont have 2000hp youre stupid. Because then we are allowed to hate on this car for not being able to take a corner.
want to see so bad a zx14 and a busa a lambo bugatti GTR Supra Evo F16 jet line up against this bad boy and watch all the fan boys cry!!!
I'm no expert but there seems to be too many "experts" commenting here.
Good old fashion american cars!! See who can go fast ina straight line!
Wait.. Are you trying to say that a twin turbo big block "don't get that bad of gas mileage"??? LOLOLOLOL!!!!! You are joking right?
also like i said what do you drive to out do this beautiful machine ? just wondering if you could even afford the tires of this car.
get someone who isn't afraid to punch it behind the wheel. The tach barely hit 6000 RPM. Whats red line on that m-f anyway?
@TheCivicguyd16 problem with that is this engine has more money in it then those supras would be bought and built for.
I LOVE IT!
I'm going to assume they put a traditional drivetrain in it - that motor would tie a knot in the "Rope Drive".
