I’ve been a fruits and vegetables snob for the last 3 years. Mostly because of my bad luck with flowers. 😮 This year I’ve had more success. I even got 2 nasturtiums to germinate. So I did the logical thing and planted 5 more seeds. 😅 My hope is that I can layer my garden. Grow the flowers in narrow containers I’m using as flower pots, and put that on top of a flower pot growing tomatoes. I hope the nasturtiums have deep roots for the big but narrow containers. That’s my only concern.
Great video, answered every question I had, except how to collect seeds afterwards. Love the accent and how sweet this gentle guy loves flowers this much!
Me too! We get all sorts as there's 3 huge trees over shadowing the garden. Wood Pigeons and Blue Tits are my favorite. I get to watch them hatch every year from our bird house :)
I threw a handful of these seeds on an empty part of my allotment last year. Then I forgot to visit my allotment for a few weeks. When I came back, nasturtiums everywhere! Kept the nettles away quite nicely.
@@ProjectDiaries I'm glad you said that. Planting in a bed I made so they'll be some what contained. Just planted English daisys Rose' and Leopard's Bane in that planter. Will these be a good combo one? What do you think. Also it's last years dirt so I'm hoping there isn't much left in the dirt nutrients. If I understood you correctly. I really liked the canary and the other exotic ones. Very cool! Loved this video and learned so much. Short, sweet and to the point. The coolest part and really a brilliant idea is the one's you planted in the see thru cup...duh. Really makes it easier to see how far along they are and best time to plant. I'm long winded but you were just so helpful. Thank You!
Thank you so much. Planting these today down here in Texas. Very thorough and to the point, which is what I like. You have a new subscriber. Thanks again!
Thank You So Very Much! So appreciate your teachings because of your extensive simplified clear concise gentle and caring delivery. You are such a down to earth Friend to have. God Bless You with good health please. So enjoying your cooking vids too. Thank You So Much!
Dude, I know this is an old video. I know this probably won't get seen. But, just in case it does I really like your vibe and presentation. I'm really picky about who's gardening videos I watch because so much can vary with area, climate, season, and a bunch of other things. But, you do a good job of keeping it about the plant. I appreciate it.
I know they say they are kiddies plants but I can’t wait to start growing them for the first time. Very informative and to the point video…. Will add to my salads in the summer…
Still a bit early for us - further north - but I love nasturtiums; handy idea. I usually save them until the tired end of summer to get a bit of late colour. I stick the seeds in a pot that something else has been growing in but is fading. Varying results. Thanks for the tips and ideas.
Thank you great video I just randomly bought these from ALDI and just realized how good is this plant. It has germinated so I am now going to transfer them from my seeding tray to the pot.
Fantastic video!! I really enjoyed the time lapse perspectives. I tried growing nasturtiums last year for the first time and I discovered some didnt germinate they just seemed to turn mouldy in the soil cups. This year I did the same thing and they are growing. Interesting to note it was seeds from last years packet that I tried to germinate this year and they actually did germinate and are growing no mold issue. Same exact process and everything . 🙏🏻🥰🇨🇦
Great video. Just starting to grow from seed. These are the first flowers I’ve chosen. And I’ve got some leaves! So excited. Now I know how to transplant thanks to you. I’ll subscribe.
It's planting day soon! We're due more snow in London this weekend and I only have a little mini outdoor greenhouse, no space inside to germinate, so waiting until the worst of the cold has passed. but what a great video, thank you!
Oh my god! Thank you so muuuuch! I've had seeds for this plant for quite a while but thought it was not easy to grow it. Will definitely try it out soon. Thank youuu!
Thank you love to follow you now I've found you. You are so easy to listen and learn from. You provide so much informative information and money saving tips. You are my favourite gardener.
Empress of India nasturtium are my favorite. Loved the video and I know I’ve said it before but your smile is so warm and adorable. Would you be open to doing some simple British recipe videos? I would like to see more everyday British eats. ( just in case I get a British boyfriend, I’ll know some things to cook for him, lol )
Thank you so much for the wonderful tips! I grew nasturtiums for the first time last year and just love them. I will be growing several varieties this year as well and excited to try them in hanging baskets-what a great idea! Thank you for another wonderful video!
You're very welcome. I grew some lovely hanging baskets for Grandad last year and I can't wait so surprise him with more this year. Did you eat the Nasturtiums last year?
I didn't eat them but my bunny Frank did :) This year I do hope to add them to salads. We love arugula and grow a lot of that and I think they would be nice together. I will let you know how it is!
hi there thanks for Uploading such an informative and easy to follow video .I was wondering what to do with the seeds after you harvest them ,ie where best to keep them
Hello! Loved your video as always. I love how informative it is and also how you show all the varieties that you know of and not just the one you are growing. I hope you're feeling better. P.S. I loooove your hair!
Awww Thank you! I did a fair bit of research on varieties for this video (As I do for every video) and i've really grown to love these flowers. I'm ordering a whole bunch of them this year :)
I have never had success transplanting these! I just plant them right in my dirt under our tree and they spring up like crazy and fill in the space of the flower bed.
I was surprised that you didn't talk about filing the seeds. In my research and the last two years of growing these, I found that if you use a nail file on the seeds, you have much better chance of germination.
It's a wet day in the subtropics in Australia where I live, so I am going to start Empress of India and Peach Melba from seed in a seed cells. My wife likes red and I like yellow. Cheers!
I eat the greens, they have a mild radish taste. You can also make pesto with them but it's a strong taste so go light on what ever you use it with. They grow well under my lemon tree
Thank you brilliant video having many unsuccessful attempts with my hanging baskets looking stringy and sparse because I can't find trailers I'm going to try these dayhlo under your instructions. Thank you again
I had this video playing on my TV while making salsa then turned around and saw you…. You’re so handsome. Thanks for the tip. I’m gonna grow mine soon.
best way to have nasturtiums is to give up a shady corner to them, plant some seed and forget about them. They'll come up in that one spot forever afterwards
Thank you. I been trying to grow Nasturtiums but only got greenery. I used cheap soil as I was aware that they don't need good soil. I'm going to try again, hopefully I get the beautiful flowers.
Nasties were the first thing I grew successfully. I was ten. The experience made a gardener out of me. I never go a year without growing them.🌱🌺
I am going to try this season. I got a few varieties. So pretty i hope i can do it
The first plant I ever took care of was African violet. Made a plant lover of me. I never feel complete without at least one flower.
I’ve been a fruits and vegetables snob for the last 3 years. Mostly because of my bad luck with flowers. 😮

They grow so easily, one of my faves! I used your amazon link ages ago and never looked back. Thank you for introducing them to me so long ago.

Honestly this is the best growing guide I have ever seen on UA-cam. Loads of good information and insight
Glad it was helpful!
I remember the Empress of Inda all over the garden back in the day. I was truly in love. Such a perfect shade of red with the dark green omg gorgeous.
Great video, answered every question I had, except how to collect seeds afterwards. Love the accent and how sweet this gentle guy loves flowers this much!
let the flower dry out the seeds will he in threes on each flower stem
This is how you do a growing guide, from seed starting to transplanting to months later. Well done sir, thumbs up!
I 100% agree!!
Nasturtiums have it all - looks, ease of growing & edible on top of that!
Agreed!
BONUS: They’re medicinal too @Tamara B
I really liked the birds chirping in the background
Me too! We get all sorts as there's 3 huge trees over shadowing the garden. Wood Pigeons and Blue Tits are my favorite. I get to watch them hatch every year from our bird house :)
Peaceful
This was so lovely. Not pushy or stressful. I feel like I can do this ❤️ thank you kind sir
You are a great grandson, bless you!
I threw a handful of these seeds on an empty part of my allotment last year. Then I forgot to visit my allotment for a few weeks. When I came back, nasturtiums everywhere! Kept the nettles away quite nicely.
Yep! they're a much better ground cover than weeds but they i'll take over if you forget them :)

Lovely video. Very informative. Thanks 🙂
Just watched two videos showing nasturtiums are phenomenal superfoods, too. Stocking up!
There's no actual definition for a "superfood" but they are good :)
I loved seeing the different varieties. The leaf is a beautiful shape as well. Thanks for the demo! 😀🌸🌱
You're welcome :)
Great video and nice shirt! Love plisken

My idea is to teach people how to grow most ingredients and then i'm setting up a cooking channel, as I love to cook just as much as I love growing :)
I just picked up a mix of these called Papaya Cream and some jewel as well. Very helpful and great video!
They sound lovely! Good luck :)
Great video! I'll be adding them to my garden this year too
Awesome video

Awesome!
I was surprised that you didn't talk about filing the seeds. In my research and the last two years of growing these, I found that if you use a nail file on the seeds, you have much better chance of germination.
Also, you can soak in food grade hydrogen peroxide. that is what I do. It works great to open the seed and sterilize the seed.
that’s a common tip but i never bother with that.
I put this one on my list👍🏾
It's a wet day in the subtropics in Australia where I live, so I am going to start Empress of India and Peach Melba from seed in a seed cells. My wife likes red and I like yellow. Cheers!

Amazing!!
