    Funny story, as part of my participation in religious forums, I have Christians tell me all the time that Mary was a "consecrated Temple virgin" and that's why they know Jesus had no real brothers and sisters. They get really mad when I tell them "Well first of all there were no Temple virgins, or nuns for that matter, in Judaism"

    When I was a Catholic, I had two dates with a man whose “vocation” to monastic life was interrupted because the monks rejected him.
    The gentleman started talking marriage on the second date, and his idea was that we would only “you know” when we wanted to have a child. Otherwise, we would sleep apart and have no affection between us.

    The early Church was definitely Ascetic but if you stop isolating verse 12 in the passage read it context of Jesus saying NOT ALL CAN ACCEPT THIS SAYING BUT IS FOR THOSE CAN EXCEPT IT referring the teaching Jesus had been explaining from Genesis It becomes clear that Jesus supported marriage as ordained from the beginning but recognized people's right to renounce it for various reasons

    Hamakom yinachem eschem bsoch aveilei Tzion veerushalayim. Maybyou be comfirted smong the mourhers of Zion and Jerusalem.
    To your points:
    1. Augustine was initially drawn to Manicheanism and was involved in that church for a bit. Ultimately, he converted to Roman Catholicism, studied for the priesthood and, having been a master of rhetoric, etc. earlier, he was a rock Star and was ultimately named Bishop of Hippo.
    2. His writings are indeed impressive. Besides his Confessions, his City of God is considered by academics to be one of the world's greatest literary contributions. It is unquestionably the longest work extant from that period (completed in the early 400's) and has had an oversized impact on the Western World. It was a defense of Christianity against pagan Roman accusations that Rome fell to the barbarians because Christians refused to worship the gods, so the gods took revenge on Rome.
    Jews have Augustine to thank because he argues there that, in the spirit of Psalm 59, "don't slay them" means leave the Jews alone, we need them to be alive and economically downtrodden (not murdered!) so people will see the punishment meted out to those who reject Jesus. That saved Jewish lives during the Second Crusade (thanks, St. Bernard!).
    Whew. A lot there.

      my priest just shows up outta nowhere-didn’t call, didn’t knock, just strolls into my yard like he owns the place. He looks at my dog, then at my neighbor’s cat, and goes, “By the power vested in me through the priesthood, I command these two to unite.” I swear to God, I thought he was joking, but he wasn’t. He raises his hands like he’s summoning rain or something, and BOOM-my dog and this cat suddenly start acting... I don’t even know, weird. Like, they were drawn to each other in this unnatural way.
      I KNOW animals don’t work like that, right? Dogs and cats can’t, y’know, do that. But a few weeks later, the cat straight-up gives birth to this... thing. It had fur like a dog but this weird slinky cat body, and its face? Man, it was like it couldn’t decide which species it wanted to be. It just stared at me, like it was mad I even existed.
      And then-get this-the priest shows up AGAIN. Just walks right into my yard like he’s on some divine mission. Doesn’t even say hello, just grabs the weird hybrid creature, looks me dead in the eyes, and says, “This is holy work.” And then he just LEAVES. No explanation, no nothing. I didn’t see him for months after that.
      That whole experience messed me up, man. It’s like I couldn’t trust anything I thought I knew about faith or reality anymore. I started questioning everything, digging deeper into other beliefs. Eventually, it led me out of Christianity altogether. That’s how I found Judaism. It just... made more sense after all the madness. Still don’t know what happened to that hybrid thing, though. Probably better I don’t.

    Elijah never slept with any lady according to kabbalist literature he was super natural can you imagine he will have 4 parents because he lives 2 lives- Exodus 4:2. Moses returned her wife to his father in-laws when he was going to Egypt,Elisha was celibate never married never had children, John the baptist never had wife or even family he used to live alone in the wilderness ,NT make a claim that he is the Elijah.
    So did all these big people go against the Torah?🫣🙏

      Orthodox Judaism has a wonderful system of halacha (Jewish religious law).
      That is how we know what to do.
      There are all kinds of stories that you can find in Jewish literature. After all, the Jews have been around for thousands of years but that doesn't mean that all those stories are literally true.
      Many things are just there to tell a story or make a point. The important thing is keeping the law.
      To be fruitful and multiply is required by halacha.

    • @nathanielsweet7614
      @nathanielsweet7614 24 дні тому +1

      Excellent question. From my recollection, Moses realized it was impossible for a man in his position to continue to be with his wife Tzipporah. Because he had to be ready at all times to communicate directly with God, he unfortunately could not give his attentions to his wife, because doing so would leave him in a state of ritual impurity and it would not be proper to speak to God in such a state.
      As for Elijah, I don't know of a definitive source which says that he never married (it is not stated explicitly in Nach). Assuming your information is true, the same answer as above could be used.
      A difference between them and John could be that while John sat alone in the middle of a desert, they actively transmitted the word of God to the entire nation. Therefore they had a true necessity to be in a state that could allow them to be ready in a moment's notice.

    Chastity is taken to a completely illogical extreme in the nt. Per Jesus, adultery can be committed merely by thinking of making love to a woman who is not one's spouse (or, presumably, a man); no physical contact or even intent to complete the act is required.
    G'd makes it clear in His Torah that adultery is an express act, not a mere thought. This false and inhumane teaching about adultery is another example of Jesus teaching contrary to the Torah of G'd.

    • @johnnastrom9400
      @johnnastrom9400 29 днів тому +5

      And the way it is worded in Matthew, it suggests that it does not matter even if both parties are single. This is ridiculous since if we did not lust, we would have been extinct a long time ago. However, I have heard that Biblical scholars argue that the quote from Jesus (from the Sermon on the Mount) is a mistranslation and should more accurately read "if a man looks at a married woman with the intention of (not merely fantasizing about) committing adultery with her". This would put it much more in line with the commandment against coveting thy neighbor's wife. The problem is mainstream Christian leaders will never listen to Biblical scholars unless they support their hyper-extreme views.

    • @johnheaton5058

      Coveting is just a thought as in 'do not covet your neighbors wife', So Jesus advice to not lust after someone else's wife etc. seems right in line with the original commandment.

      When someone has strong thought and deep desire for adultery then he crossed the hardest lines. Heart is the most crucial decision part. Now what prevent that person from action could be just any dummy thing. When God doesn't set a punishmenet for that it is just by mercy since the person didn't corrupt or harm anyone. A part that, yes he did "adultery" in his heart.
      That's a serious pre-alarm that he shouldn't ignore and have to work on it very seriously.

    • @paulplotsker
      @paulplotsker 29 днів тому +1

      My understanding is that halachically, of course that's not adultery per Jewish law. A mere thought in one's mind? No way. Remember,it's got to be a physical act. To punish with the death penalty (sleeping with a married woman is definitely a capital crime in the Torah) one would need two kosher, majority-aged men to warn the male perp that they see what's unfolding, and that if the two of them go into a secluded area for a certain amount of time , they would be witnesses at the trial. That warning is a necessity. Without it, no punishment on earth from the Sanhedrin.
      But I've recently seen sources in the Mussar (self improvement) literature
      (which movement was initiated mostly under Rabbi Israel Salanter in the early 19th century in Lithuania among the non- Chasidic Orthodox) which argues that sins of the mind are indeed terrible things, possibly even worse than physical ones, because they are nothing less than pollutants of the mind, and the mind is the sacred Holy of Holies of the body.
      Well. That would seem to place Jesus as the actual founder of the Mussar movement!
      Just something to consider.

    Socrates was 74 years old, so maybe had reasons to not be so pleased with his body anymore. He'd rather this than exile, because he's an old man who would have to try to start a new life in another city state.
    & the account attributed to Socrates was written by Plato. Who was clearly of the more Gnostic way of thinking; he helped inspire it. I just don't think we can say this with any confidence for Socrates. I think he was closer to a radical skeptic, than Platonist. His other, less well known major student, Xenophon's, writings suggest that might be true.

There was no advice to 'make yourself a eunuch'. The speaker slamming his bible shut over eunuchs is missing the point - it's not meant to be literal or for everyone, just for some few people who wish to consecrate themselves to God and are willing to sacrifice physical relationships for Him.

    Rabbi, the men followed Yeshua (Pbuh) to avoid taking responsibility for their actions. "We are putting our lives on the line. Are you going to guarantee our sins will be forgiven and we will be in the "Kingdom Of Heaven?" This is how they spoke to Jesus. There was absolutely no respect. It was all about what God can do for them, not what they can do for God. The men had to turn Yeshua into a God to avoid being stoned to death for adultery. As you know this sin is punishable by death. In Christianity, you can live however you choose without consequence. When these people die, they realize the punishment is worse than anything they could imagine. If you are following the true teachings of Yeshua, you will see "Hashem" as God and NEVER question his authority. A LARGE majority of Christians end up in the "Lake Of Fire" because they argue in their interrogation room after they die and refuse to take responsibility for their actions. The suffering Jews experienced at the time of Yeshua was beyond horrific. Every day they were getting raped, tortured, mutilated, crucified, and starved to death by the Romans. I still have nightmares about what your people have gone through in their history. May "Hashem" bless you and your family for leading others in the right direction.

    So sorry & grieving for You at the Passing of Your Parent, so deep of family & emotions, may GOD & Jesus walk with you & family. Parents passing is deeper than words or actions...jolting emotions.
    Briefly, I see Mat 19:12 as Jesus Teaching things far beyond gnostic idea or Paul. HEs also Teaching all can follow Kingdom,humans are equal, & present situation has no impact on GODs plan. As Also GOD (& Jesus Says in John 1, Luke 11) Said in Isa 56...following HIM, His Teachings & Ways..., is the Kingdom....
    Praying for You & Your entire family in your Father's Passing.😢

    It is not good for man to be alone. Therefor a companion was created as a blessing. Yeshu' taught from parable. His response to a political question is what is in view (snappy answers to stupid questions). As in removing the eye if it causes us to harbor hate. If the the eye is single (meaning generous) then the body is full of light. In Yeshu's time skoffing and ridicule were common place, and are alive and well to this very day. I believe Solomon was quoted on rebuking fools. Thank you always for your very well informed insights Rabbi. Shalom.

    Celibacy is a thing in Christianity due to the influence of Buddhist monasticism which requires it of monastics but not for lay followers.
    Christianity and ascetic Judaism was heavily influenced by Buddhism as Buddhist missionaries were sent to Antioch, Alexandria and various Greek kingdoms as early as 200bce by Emperor Ashok of India.

      Words of Agur, son of Jakeh:
      I am the simplest of all men;
      wisdom of men is not in me.
      God has taught me wisdom,
      knowledge of the Holy One,
      who ascends up to Heaven,
      and who descends thence,
      who gathers the wind in his fists,
      who binds the waters in a garment,
      who established all ends of the Earth.
      What is his name? (YHWH!)
      And his son’s name? (Israel!)
      Surely you have known!
      (Proverbs 30:1-4)

    Chastity is the godly ideal for all people outside of the bonds of one woman and one man in marriage, faithful for life.
    And those who choose to serve others instead of raising a family are special and to be respected.
    But there was no demand for celibacy among the early church's elders/overseers or deacons. That was a much later regulation.

    Tikkun Olam would indicate Judaism considers the world to be broken today; modern hygiene would also render circumcision and a ban on pork unnecessary.

    • @zaharabardavid
      @zaharabardavid 29 днів тому +2

      G-d wouldn't render circumcision unnecessary for a Jew. It's the crux of our covenant with him. Pork is a filthy animal. He doesn't want Jews to eat it. If everyone followed the commandments given to the Jews, they'd be a lot healthier mentally, physically and spiritually.

      Tikkun Olam is not Biblical. It comes from Jewish mysticism. Many of these kabbalists suffered from the expulsion of Jews from Spain. No one lives in a vacuum. A person is going to be influenced by events in his life, even being affected by other groups and religions.
      The way that Tikkun Olam is used today is so new that it was not used that way for most of my own life.
      The Reform Movement was very big on social action, that is helping others, social causes, and liberal politics. Somehow the name got changed to Tikkun Olam and the Jews in America have gone ape over it.

    No one can see God and live... If only I could see your face, I would not be living the way I am today.
    If you have seen him, you have been born again, repented from the life you have lived.
    How do you know, you are living up to scratch; perhaps the surface of the living water is still on the horizon.
