Check d2 and d3 on the rf board.
Kenwood has a service bulletin on this issue. I have fixed many 120 and 130s with this problem

Thanks, Kevin. I will check on this the next time I pull the radio out of the box. I really appreciate the feedback! 73!

Very nice, i was 16 years old in 1982 and had just got my license, how i used to wish i had a TS130 or TS120, funny thing is i still do !!

Yeah, it's definitely been a great little radio! Which is why I can't seem to part ways with it...
      Thanks for watching, Anthony. 73!

The replacement relay board is nice improvement, I hope. I picked up an extremely clean TS-130S last year. It’s been in the original box for the last 35 years I imagine. Hope to try putting it on the air soon.

Yeah, I was happy to find that replacement as relays for the 130 are getting harder to find. Sounds like you scored on a nice rig! Hope you have fun with it. Thanks for watching. 73!

No ideas here to cure your power issue, but gosh, you have a framed image of the *San Diego Chicken* on your wall! That alone was worth the price of admission...73! de WX0V

It's autographed to me, too! I've had that damn thing in a frame about as long as I've had this TS130. Both classics! Thanks for watching, Scott es 73 back at you.

I would push on the boards while trying to transmit. I would also unplug and replug all the connectors. And last try a different mike. I have a TS-440s that came to me with alot of issues...

Kenny, unplugging all the connectors is the next task. Not something I'm looking forward to either. I'm starting to think that maybe it might be a cracked solder joint (or multiple) somewhere. Nonetheless, it's a work in progress.
The 440 is a great radio! I have one as my backup rig. Thanks for the advice and take it easy. 73!

Another common fault with these is that the earthing to the top righthand board fails. It is accomplished via the board location screws. Unscrew and retighten. The fault manifest itself as - on SSB transmit and with no mod power is indicated. This courtesy of the brilliant Brenton Meadows ua-cam.com/video/dFWFHd2gnow/v-deo.htmlsi=11GuWoNYchL4IYTc

John, thanks for the comment. When I had it opened, I loosened and tightened every screw I could find. All boards included. I'm starting to think it is a cracked solder joint (or two) somewhere. Will try to work on it another time...Take care and 73!

I’m getting one tomorrow and it’s a little tiny sucker 😊

Awesome! It is a small one for sure. I think it was originally designed to be a mobile rig back in the day. Either way, I hope you enjoy it! Great little radio. Thanks for watching. 73!

@@ZedBeeEI got a 120, about 2 years ago. with p/s, speaker, and desk mic. All original docs including purchase receipts too! Very cheap. I played with it before I got my general just to listen and note it has a funky band selector pot. No idea how difficult it will be to get to. Removing the knob got me nowhere (hoping electronic spray would cure it). The digits in the display go wonky as I change bands and I can wiggle and they correct. Sometimes.
Could you share the user group info you found? I DO want to play with radio and as it’s only 2nd owner, see what’s left in her now that I can.
      Thanks for the great vid

@HowToHam_Tom HI Tom. Yes, I will search around for that user group when I get home later. It has been awhile but if I find it, I will definitely share the link with you. Take care! 73.

@@HowToHam_Tom Ok, here is the link to the user group. groups.io/g/kenwoodts120130/topics I'm not sure how active it is these days but there is quite a bit of good information to look through on it. I hope it helps you find your issue. If you do happen to get it resolved, please let me know. GL es 73!

study the "service manual for the ts 130". there is a pa board that may have a component with a problem. the final transistors are still available, but not the drivers. I had a ts430 that uses the same pa board. recomment you make a video when disassembling the radio so you will put it back together again. too many details to remember. note: kenwood used transistors for the drivers wich had reversed position of the collector ,base and emitter. could not find them in the market.

    • @ZedBeeE
      @ZedBeeE  Рік тому

Sergio, the PA board is a tricky one to take apart on this radio. That is for sure! I will leave that one for a "last resort" if I can't figure out the problem. I do appreciate the suggestion and will let you know if I had to go that deep on it. Take care and 73! ..

    Unfortunately, K4EAA passed away.

I was sorry to hear that. From what I understand, his wife is still running his online shop for those hard to find Kenwood "hybrid" parts. Not sure for how long though. Thought I had put his site in the description. www.k4eaa.com/parts.htm
