I was fortunate enough to go to the Petticoat Junction theme park in Panama City a few times as a kid.
Btw my grandfather, who was a retired railroad engineer, knew the owners of the park and would often go there and run the train for old time's sake. He also would help train new people how to run the engine. Unfortunately he actually passed away in the cab of the train while training a new engineer ... while this incident was sad, for a man whom had spent his entire life on trains, there could not have been a more fitting place as a final chapter of such a wonderful life and man.
ps. I loved my Papaw very much and was very fortunate to have been able to ride with him on trains when I was very young.

Hi! I still sing the song for fun with anyone who remembers the show. As kids, my two sisters and I liked it a lot, especially because I was brunette, and they were blonde and redhead. Kate really touched my heart. Sometimes I’d watch clips and tear up during her scenes, as she read as the quintessential kind mother to me. Her kind energy helped me get through a childhood permeated by darkness. When I pass over, I’d love to hug her and say thanks. 💕

The producers did a great job with the two replacements for Billy Jo and the one for Bobby Jo since many people never noticed it. I was disappointed to know that Linda Henning was the only Bradley sister who stayed throughout the entire series, there were a few episodes she missed. She was my favorite human character but "being a dog lover for 61 years, my favorite over all character was "Higgins" the dog. It kind od upset me that they didn't give him a name. He waa incredibly well trained.
The first "Benji" movie was Edgar Buchanan's finsl appearance in shoe business and he thought that after 8 years the dog wouldn't recognize him butternut he jumped into his lap upon seeing Edgar, he held the dog close and cried tears of delight abd someone caught it on camera. I would have loved to have witnessed that very touching moment!

The Andy Griffith show wouldn’t have worked for a crossover because Mayberry was in NC while Petticoat Junction was in Missouri.

    • @TonyBoyOhBoy

True, but The Beverly Hillbillies are in California and they had many crossovers with Petticoat Junction. They could have created some connection. They actually kind of did in a Danny Kaye special with Buddy Ebsen playing Jed Clampett's "brother" and Howard Morris basically playing Ernest T Bass character as has son. It's on my list of future programs to do.

Excerpt that the Beverly Hillbillies came from the same county in Missouri before going to California and Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, and the Beverly Hillbillies were all produced by Paul Henning who himself was from the area in the Ozarks of Missouri that he was trying to replicate.
Andy Griffith had different producers and aside from Barney and Gomer, it was never aimed at making people look so stupid. Andy Griffith characters would’ve made a better tie in with the Waltons who lived in the neighboring state of Virginia.

The supposed Christmas crossover photo at 1:29 (with Jethro in Roman armor) is different from the 1968 Xmas show with both casts (seen in the clips). By Dec. 1970, Lori Saunders joined Beverly Hillbillies as a new character. There wasn't a 2nd Xmas crossover show. That has to be a publicity press photo not taken from any episode.

At the Red Caboose Motel in Ronks, Pennsylvania (outside of Strasburg, PA), there is a replica of the front facade of the Shady Rest Hotel with a sign over the porch titled "Shady Rest Hotel". It sits about 25 yards parallel to the railroad tracks for the Strasburg Railroad, a short line passenger tourist RR running from Strasburg to a junction of the former Pensylvania RR. At the junction, the engine disconnects from the train and runs along a side track to the head of the train to go back to Strasburg station.

I believe it wasn't until the 4th season when they began showing the Shady Rest building itself. The image was probably a mass painting or it could have been a photograph of a private home taken from a distance. This since the interior shots we all dine in a sound stage though it appears authentic.

It was a painting and model with a Tyco model train of the Cannonball in the foreground, with a toy train smoke unit starting in mid series, because Tyco had just produced the model train set.
The passenger platform and water tower was/is at the train park in Central California where Sierra #3 the Cannonball resides. (Sierra #3 Also in: The Rifleman, Casey Jones series Alan Hale, The Big Valley, Gunsmoke, the Wild Wild West, Alias Smith and Jones, Barbary Coast, Kung Fu, bunches of movies, Back to the Future III.
The hotel live action scenes were done at Barbary Coast Hotel in Oregon.

In The Beverly Hillbillies, Benaderet played Jed's Cousin Pearl, not Aunt Pearl. Pearl was mother to Jethro and twin sister Jethrine. Max Baer played both parts, though Jethrine's voice was dubbed by Linda Kaye Henning. Henning, as mentioned, went on to play Betty Jo Bradley in Petticoat Junction.

In recent years in watching reruns of the show over and over again, I always found it fascinating that Linda Kay was the Hrnning's oldest child but played the youngest Bradley daughter. Linda had two siblings just like she did in the show, only it was a brother and a sister instead of two sisters.
Another interesting point is the Betty jo was the only I e if the three to not be replaced, she still wasn't in every episode. I think she missed out on five of them.
Also, she married Steve on the show and a year later they were married 8real life force years.
It was just in the last few minutes that I realized why the Elliott baby was named Kathy Jo. Jo was after her uncle Joe and Kathy wA after her mom Kate (Katherine)!

@@TonyBoyOhBoy I always thought as a child , that the Shady Rest Hotel was based on the shenanigans of real life people from Portland Oregon . Due to the fact that (according to the ending credits) the t.v. show was filmed in P. Oregon . While I knew the Kathy part of Kathy Jo's name was for Kate (Katherine), I always assumed the Jo part was simply the same as the sisters, and was short for Josephine. I don't think Andy Griffith would have been a good blend with any of the shows as far as I crossed over. Did not hold the same values as sheriff kahler his character by any measure. I have actually been to Eldon Missouri a couple of times to pick up vintage vehicles. It would have been interesting to have had time and knowledge about the hotel to go by and look at it. Or at least look at where. It had been. These shows were always selling my favorite. But they were in syndication before I start watching them. There's a school they liked to call himself hard work you and I think it's in Bolivar Missouri. But it's interesting about the students to actually take in. The point is at the museum for many years maybe even decades they had The Beverly hillbillies truck. I think there were actually two of them. I had Uncle who had a business in the area and we went by there a couple of times. Also silver Dollar City is a real place as far as the amusement park. The blacksmith featured on the episodes of Beverly hillbillies. He was a friend of my uncle. Okay how long ago Sunday items were spoken about. But maybe an idea for another episode of you on UA-cam. Thanks for bringing back some memories memories

The Shady Rest Hotel never made good business sense.
It was in a small city in the middle of nowhere, so even if it was on the main road it might not do good business. But it wasn't. You had to take a local train (the Cannonball) which apparently only ran from Drucker's Store to the Shady Rest. Who would even think to take a train out into the woods like that? And what if you wanted to check out at 3AM but the train didn't run until 8AM? I don't even see how they built the hotel if there is no road. As a kid this made zero sense to me.
