Summer solstice means long days and short nights while winter solstice means short days and long nights
Oooo th x
Thanks now I don’t have to watch this stupid video my teacher assigned me 🙂
Oh I didn't know that! Didn't see it in the video definetly
Not long and short, solstice means longest and shortest!
@@hiteshsaxena1553 solstice means Sun to Stand Still.
Happy Summer Solstice , also happy international yoga day

Where I live we are in the darkest period right now. We have 19,5 hours less sunlight per day compared to the brightest day in the summer. Sun goes up 9.50, and sets at 13.15 in the afternoon. Really depressing in the winter, but the summers makes up for everything. The sun never sets in the summer :)
Sounds depressing both ways! I want darkness to nap.
Happy Winter Solstice!

Happy winter solstice everyone. 😍😍💕💕💕
This is a very special day for me, because one of the two main characters of a story that I'm writing, was born on this day. 🤗
I love summer solstice. ❤️
Can you share your story? I am really interested

@@ash.youlikeit5648 sorry, I can't share the story before it's published, that would be akin to shooting myself in the foot, isn't it?

This means in North America, the days will start getting longer again starting now! More daylight!
Actually, the days will start getting shorter again in North America (as we head towards winter). They start getting longer after the winter solstice.
I LOVE watching this video ❤ thanks National Geographic 👏👍
Best presentation I have seen on the subject.
Me: How can you confirm which pole is north and which pole is south.
NatGeo: Flips the world.
When trolling fails.
It's easier than you think. North is not found in nature. North is the description we gave to a particular direction, and then used that as "up" on maps, even though it's not necessarily "up" in nature.
@thnktank1 ..can you tell me wich direction we are in space? Up or down, or to the side? In relation to a compass we know exactly where the "north pole" as we named it, is. Same as we know where the "South Pole" is. If you wish to name it with something else, that's completely up to you. But I bet you will run in to some linguistic issues if you decide to start using your own, made up, language in the world.
On the flip side, it might give you free room and board for a while, as they sort you out ;) This is civilisation after all.
@@rndmfella1874 "Up" is subjective.
Great video!
The real reason for Christmas!
No, it's not. It is Jul, Jól, Jule, or Yule. Many of now Christian celebrations are centered around Pagan/ Heathen traditions to more easily convert us to Christianity.
Christmas is the celebration of the birth of the christian Christ. Yuletides, Yule etc. is the solstice/pagan tradition you're thinking of.
@@freshairkaboom8171 The cross has 4 angles of 90 degrees. × 4 = 360 degrees. The circle = The Sun. Happy winter solstice. 😁

What? Im out of the loop

This is my Christmas!
In the Jalali calendar which is used in Iran, summer and winter solstices correspond exactly with the start of summer and winter.
Soheil Rashidi They can't
That's impossible, the exact start of summer and winter change each year. Unless you add and retract days to compensate for that every year, which would make the Jalali calender pretty confusing.
It is so good really helped me understand
Thank you. Love it
Here in equatorial region. We have equal amount of day and night every single day of the year
I'm curious, because of the tilt in the axis of the earth, during the summer & winter solstices, is it a bit "cooler" during the solstices compared to the equinox? I wouldn't think so but just curious (also where are you located? thanks!)
@@Anolis9 I live in indonesia, near the equatorial line. We have two season based on monsoon. There are not much difference on sun position here. But due to vast amount of region in indonesia, there are slight tilting on sun position in the lower or upper region of indonesia. It doesnt disturb the day night cycle, it just like in rainy season it goes dark faster than the dry season.
If you asking which is cooler... Maybe its cooler when in rainy season. The sun doesnt really do much on the temperature here.
No it's only during equinox
Simple Short and Accurate 👍
very nice
Cool. Thanks.
Tq so much for uploading
Very well explained! Key word: tilt of North Pole which many fail to mention.
More detail??
…and that Earth orbits the Sun without much - if any, variation year by year
Good summer and winter
learnable
This is the real Christmas.
The light of the world begins its return to glory (in the northern hemisphere) and brings new life to the world.
A solstice is the same as the story of Christ being crucified and resurrected 3 days and nights later.
It's going to happen tomorrow 22 here in Philippines
CLAVELLE in June 21 the summer solstice in Philippines
how? We are in equator, we aren't in northern hemisphere or southern hemisphere, it would be nearly impossible to detect it happening, unlike living in those region that aren't tropics it would be completely noticeable but in tropical country such as Philippines I doubt so.
I don't know, why I am feeling cold after seeing this 🌨😰

Hello everyone
I’m here cause my astronomy teacher got me doing an assignment 🌚
Arun jatav gyanoday vidalaya jabalpur
SOLSTICE = beginning ? Nope, I disagree.....solstice = MID-POINT of summer / winter.......after Summer Solstice, Sun starts moving Southwards (for Northern Hemisphere inhabitants) and after Winter Solstice, Sun starts moving Northwards !
The temperatures significantly increase 2 months after the summer solstice or significantly lower for 2 months after the winter solstice
I wouldn't say 2 months, I'd say about a month and a half the temperature goes really low or really high and you experience your lowest or highest temp of the season bc after 2 months you start experiencing warming or cooling
Solstice are actually point in space they are not days. Those who study astronmy knows.

There is no tilt of the Earth.
The Earth is straight up in the universe.
The sun moves up and down to the maximum 23.5° angle north and south of the Earth in a 6 month time period.
