When I was going to a Catholic school in high school, they had Doom on the computers. Makes sense I suppose in the context of fighting the demons of hell or something but that sure was a lot of fun to play with my classmates.
Honestly, Catholic school (at least from my experience) was just public school with uniforms and mandated Christian stuff. Some of the people that go there aren't even Catholic, but just wanted a "world class education"
I was born in the mid 90s, so the first piece of Christian/Biblical entertainment media for kids that I ever saw as a kid was Dreamwork’s “The Prince Of Egypt”. It set my expectations so high that whenever I found new Christian media content I would always be left disappointed because I knew it could be so much better.
@@gracekim1998 I heard it was just through the point of view of the animals and Mary & Joseph are still the main focus but idk for sure because I didn’t actually watch it Lmao
I finally watched Prince of Egypt a week ago, and the quality was amazing. I was never one for Christian media since it was always shoved into my face as a kid, but I could watch that movie over and over again willingly.
The people that made this went to my Sunday school! They brought in computers and put them in a part of the gym. We had to have our parents pay for it to play. Turns out it was the subscription and kept changing my mom despite never playing it at home besides the one time in church. I remember the game crashing and then when it did or 15 minutes were up they would rotate out the kids and make them an account if the parents paid. They handed out weird fliers that were badly done. Omg this was like a wave of nostalgia hitting me.
What kills me is that religious content doesn’t have to be bad. The Ten Commandments, Prince of Egypt, and The Seventh Seal are movies that heavily feature religion as a core tenant of their themes, design, and messaging, but they are still incredibly good when approaching them from a non-religious lense. Even some shows for kids like Tales From the Book of Virtues, Veggie Tales, and Hanna-Barbera's The Greatest Adventure are really special and deserve recognition as good religious based shows. As a non-religious person, I can tell you that the Bible is a fascinating book. It’s got stories of monsters, world ending floods, epic battles, stories of revenge, just everything you’d need to make outstanding television/movies. Just use what’s already there. You don’t need Kurt Cameron break dancing to be your only option for religious storytelling.
Because these people mostly don't go in with the intent of making something good, just something 'christian', it seems. That and also the quality being so shite that people know they can get away with making absolute trash and still making massive profit by making it obnoxiously stuffed with christian everything.
@@Darca1n Weird that they can't get quality if there would probably be people that have beacoup bucks and could fund the project, but if the projects we see are any indication, that investment doesn't bear much fruit
Part of the reason VeggieTales I think was popular among even those that aren't religious is that they focused on the message of the Bible story more than the Bible part. For example, the story of Rack Shack and Benny they focused more on the part of the story of standing up for what is right even when everyone is against you, or Daniel in the Lion's Den, they focused more on being brave. I remember there was always a little part on the bottom of the DVD that says "A lesson in self-worth/A lesson in faith/A lesson in perserverance" etc. Granted it helped that they focused solely on Old Testament stories as opposed to the stories of Jesus.
I was able to watch regular cartoons fine, but my parents also got us a set of movies called Living Scriptures that told stories from the scriptures. And they were good. Animation was good, dialogue was good.
I’m glad my parents were more open to me viewing content outside of Christian content. There’s some gems, but they’re in a sea of sludge that I am thankful I was not subjected to mostly.
my parents were Jewish they tried to send me to Hebrew school but I did not care and they were not super serious they ate pigs and stuff lol only celebrated major holidays barely but I grew up an aesthiest and am glad if God exists he exists if u believe u believe but everyone can be a good person and should enjoy what they like as long as it's not harming anyone at the end of the day
That was my parents as well. Only Prince of Egypt is the notable one for me. But I'm thankful my parents didn't totally shield me and my siblings from anything and everything outside of Christianity. Which is evident from my mom buying me and my younger brother an Nintendo 64 and PlayStation later on lol 😂❤!
My parents did the same, the only Christain media I experienced was a Polish show on tv for kids called "ziarno" (ziarno means seed) and we used to watch it quite often but when it changed and me and my siblings stopped enjoying it my parents didn't forced us to watch it and im very thankful
There's a game by M. Dickie called "The Bible Story" where you can punch Jesus and insult the Devil's appearance. Oh and it's also based on a wrestling game engine M. Dickie made meaning you can suplex non-believers and Romans into submission. EDIT: I meant "The You Testament" sorry. Forgot the name.
Christians be like: "nothing says child-friendly like some infanticide and genocide and violence". No anger here, just the double standard is stupid, Violence is bad but biblical violence is good? The Prince of Egypt heroically killing thousands of children is... questionable?
The bible was actually super dark in a lot of places. Most kids are fed sugar coated versions of biblical stories rather than the actual ones and often times don't read the actual book for themselves until they're in their late teens or an adult. The bible is EXTREMELY thematically and literarily rich, so it's basically impossible for younger people to truely understand it. I was introduced to the majority of Bible stories through a graphic novel called "the action bible," which contained incredible art and highly condensed stories that kids could understand with a lot of the violence, carnage, and sex minimized. There were even a few spinoffs too that covered stories not contained in the final print of the "complete edition." I highly recommend it to basically any christain, young and old especially if you need to familiarize yourself with the general narritive of the bible.
@@krimsonkatt Let's be real, the vast majority of Christians (adult or not) haven't actually read the bible. In America, 7% of the population have read the bible but 70% claim to be Christian. Nearly half of those 7% are atheists, which means that proportionally more atheists have read the bible than Christians (10% of atheists and 6% of Christians). As Mark Twain (supposedly) said: "The best cure for Christianity is reading the bible".
Christians are nothing if not hypocritical... I mean, we can talk about religious violence in America or the "Jesus with a sword" idea. The Old Testament is very dark. For all the talk evangelicals do about Jesus, they REALLY love that Old Testament god.
Not sure if I'd describe that last part as "heroic"; that scene shows Moses downright horrified at what he learns and it's at that point the movie lets you know it's earning that PG rating.
I used to have a dvd box set of a Bible series called ‘Testament’ It was the only thing besides Veggietales that made the Bible interesting. Each episode was animated in a completely different art style from stop motion to hand drawn to even a moving painting.
@@ArloTheSilver the chosen is, but not testament I've actually never heard of it before but it sounds interesting The chosen is really good though it's well written and the sets and cinematography low key slapp in my humble opinion
That show was such a meme. When I was a kid I thought it was a star wars spinoff with all the literal lightsaber fights, my favorite part of star wars growing up and the sole reason I watched Episode 1 far more than I watched the OT just for the Darth Maul fight.
If they really wanted to make a bible game, there's so much in the bible that could give them material for interesting gameplay. Hell, they could make a Christian stardew valley, and ACTUALLY put effort into it.
,,,Okay, i feel like "Christian Stardew Valley" would work, but probably in the sense of it just being stardew valley taking place in a christian town, and that aspect influencing the story in interesting ways. Like needing to go to church to keep your reputation up with some characters or skipping church can raise your rep with other characters, etc when i first read your comment it made me try and remember the day in catholic school where they talked about how to farm according to the bible lol
@@izzy_izzy_izzybelle I mean there is religion in stardew like with Yoba. Maybe in heart events you use teachings of God to inspire marriage candidates. Have praying to god boost your field growth, have sinning do weird effects to your crops. Instead of defeating monsters down the mines, you jump into hell and defeat demons or something xryfftyg I’m not religious but it could work if they really wanted it too- tho uh- depending on the type of christians who make it, they may remove same sex marriage 💀💀
I always liked when the Christian themes weren’t as straight forward. I like when it’s blended into the story more. I think it’s more impactful that way anyway. I do love veggies tales though, I’ve looked back at old episodes and I’m so surprised at how funny it is! My child brain thought a lot of movies were Christian when they weren’t (to my knowledge). Like Lion King! I thought Simba was like the prodigal son who rediscovered his faith. And his father was symbolic for God-telling him that Simba is His son! I also thought that movies that said “follow your heart” or “listen to your heart” were telling me to listen to Jesus. Because Jesus “lives in my heart” as I was taught. 😂♥️(He still does too)
Funny you mention Lion King, when the Rhythm of the Pridelands/TLK 2 had "He Lives in You" on their soundtrack. A song that completely removed from actually being about lion dad actually fits perfectly well with Christianity.
@@maidenreligion12 that reminds me of a time I went to a Christian summer camp and they put on skits with music for the campers.. one was a skit to Vertical Horizon's Everything you want Lyrics.. only they acted as if it was about finding Jesus..it works surprisingly well. ( I had to look it up to make sure it wasn't a Christian song. it isn't. )
As someone raised Christian and is kind of ehh about it currently I would love to play a good Christian video game honestly lmao hmu if you need a play tester in the future 🤣🙏
Yeah, I haven't been a Christian in almost 30 years, and when he mentioned the upcoming Jesus game I thought "Well, if I get to play as table-flipping merchant-whipping Jesus, that could be entertaining."
Oh my god core memory unlocked. I went to a Christian private school in Alabama at the time this was released; the article you quoted is from the Alabama online newspaper. Our school was planning on integrating it to our curriculum for the younger grades. Nothing ever came of it, but there were a few schools across the state that got the weird early access stuff... but jeez I never thought I'd be hearing about it again. Tbh I try to block out everything from that school. Too much religious trauma. Good video Saber as always!
Hi hello I also went to a private christian school in Alabama. 🙃 I almost never see anyone from here, let alone with the same unique religious trauma that is Southern private Christian school. So I just wanted to pop onto your comment and let you know there is another out there that understands the struggle. :)
Incidentally, Club Penguin was made by Christians, they merely didn't show it much in game. For example, the original version of the 'Hydro Hopper' minigame, before they adapted it for the game, was based in a Christian summer camp.
ikr I felt so bad growing up for kids who had parents like that so glad my famy chill af and im an aesthiest and to do what I please im a good person and I can't believe Christian school exists ppl gotta go to public school or they become weird or snowflakes
@@maybeskin8190 There's a Christian Academy maybe 6+ miles from my house, not sure how long it's been there, but not shocking when I literally can count like 10+ church signs or directions (since some are near intersections and thus have to market where they are for people driving otherwise) from my work to home (which is maybe an 8 mile drive max)
Honestly, it's stuff like this that makes me say that the Christian entertainment industry needs to really raise the bar of standards. Because it's either low grade shlock that soley relies on being Christian to carry it, or outright propaganda pieces. Seriously, just because something is targeted towards a Christian audience, doesn't mean you can just phone it in, and just pump out low grade shlock.
You know there's a musical about Jesus being a rockstar? It's called Jesus Christ Superstar and that's pretty good. There's a manga series that's about Jesus and the Buddha being roommates. I don't think it's disrespectful and that's pretty fun if you're not offended by it's existence. It's called Saint Young Men or something like that. It has a short anime adaptation but the manga has more content so. Preference . If you want recommendations.
There's also Rosa de Guadalupe which is in Spanish but there's subs and probably dubs. It's on Netflix now I think. It's brainless TV about random different people dealing with different problems and their faith helping them cope or helping them see the way and in the end it tells you the moral it was going for. It's called the Rose of Virgin Mary in English. Como Dice El Dicho does the same thing if you end up liking RdG. It's called As the saying goes in English.
My babysitter and her family are Christians and she introduced Veggietales to me. Made me a fan of Veggietales even though I wasn't a devout Christian. My parents were Christians and I was baptized. Noticeably between my babysitter and my family, anime was a no no and certain cartoons like Teen Titans and Justice League was not allowed. She didn't allow her kids to watch Pokemon or Digimon so I would sneak in cards , comics and manga so her sons could see them and they were always excited. My parents are much more open and knew that stuff did not taint me in anyway. I remember they first saw Bible man and they were like 🙄. I think they found Christian cartoons and shows to be campy. Eventually my parents left the church. I left in high school. Never returned. Neither did my parents. I think my family found it too stuffy for them. My dad really got into Star Wars and my mom was getting lazy on Sundays. 🤣
I had the same upbringing. Baptist church, 3 pastors in the family, religious private schools all my life before college (minus 3rd and 4th grade), Boy Scout troop run through my church, etc. etc. Wait until they find out I've been studying Paganism for the past 2 years
Growing up I never even heard of Harry Potter until Middle School. I've still never read a book or seen a movie. I'm changing that soon, but that's what Christian upbringings do to you. They strip away everything you could know and replace with stuff you're forced to learn. You didn't have a say. You were born into it.
The only media religion has been kinda good in is music. There's plenty of bands which I only found out years later they were christian bands. Guess that means they didn't get the message across but the music was good.
Technically TwentyOnePilots are Christians too. They don’t necessarily make any more obvious worship except for maybe ‘March to the Sea’ or ‘Trees’? A lot of there songs can be listened to with multiple lenses however which I think is really awesome
Some of those Gospel songs & singers i used to vibe as a kid sometimes in my mom, & dad's old car quite honestly boost-up precious, & A1 childhood memories like Urban Gospel, & Caribbean Gospel even doe i rarely went to Church as a kid.
Skillet is one of them I love the band and knew they were Christian but many don't know I remember hearing them in Hot Topic and was completely shocked like wow proof good rock can transcend multiple genres
@@elizabethsmith3374 They're one of the bands I thought of while typing my comment. I remember a few years ago I was listening to one of their more recent albums and thought it suddenly sounded very religious. I looked it up and found out they were a christian band, at least to me it wasn't very obvious before.
Christian media is almost uniformly mediocre, shading into terrible - movies, music and games. I think there are two main reasons for this: 1. It is derivative of mainstream media. Christians seem to have a need for popular media, but mainstream media is almost always demonized by Christian media and Christian preachers - I don't need to list the many "satanic panics," from D&D to Taylor Swift. So, there is a call for experiences similar to mainstream media, but it needs to be "beyond reproach." This leads to a feedback loop, where the more Christians make derivative media the more Christians will promote it as an alternative to the mainstream, even if that media is mediocre and uninspired compared to the original mainstream content. 2. There is a definite feeling within Christian media (most prominently Christian music) that artists should "put God first," which means eschewing virtuosity in favor of easily-digestible, low-effort work. Adam Neely explores this in his video on listening to music that you hate - which for him is Christian contemporary music. Anyway, Christian media is consistently mediocre, and there are, sadly, reasons for that which boil down to economics.
3. Christianity‘s main goal is to extract tithes from its followers and get them to vote Republican, which does not inspire creativity in their unpaid staff.
@@Cajek2 I Yes, with a "but." Many churches operate on tithes, but when it comes to Christian media like movies, games and music the motive is profit. The vast majority of Christian media is not tied to any particular church or even denomination, but is branded generally "Christian," making it available to the widest possible audience. Since these things are not tied to any particular branch of Christianity or individual church, the name of the game in Christian media is not "tithes" but profit pure and simple.
@@thacobell4700 Good point. I'm originally from Cali, and there are a number of very liberal-minded and inclusive, left-leaning churches. I would point out St. Luke's Episcopal in San Diego's North Park as an excellent example. (Incidentally, because many Sudanese refugees attend that church, the music is authentically african and an exception to the more general trend of curbing virtuousity.)
Every time I see Christian media like this I get this feeling that the people involved with it are incredibly naiive and innocent. Not very "street smart" about how popular media works. Kind of "squares" as the old parlance goes. In one way it's very charming, but in another it's like watching grown men and women behaving like children whose crappy drawing they just posted on the fridge is the best thing ever made. Not ever having been to church or ever considered myself religious, it's amusing to see all of this from an outsider's perspective.
The only good christian animated show that I remember was "Chi-Rho: The Secret". We often watched it during our religion lessons at elementary school. It was well animated and actually had some nice plot and characters. The main protagonists even fell in love with each other at the very end.
And then Prince of Egypt and that Joseph one are some of the few good movies about stories featured in the Old Testament (and mostly like other books for others too)
There is still the Stories from the Old & New Testament by Nest which are good as well as the Dreamworks classics Prince of Egypt and Joseph. I definitely agree as a believer in Jesus it’s baffling to me how media made by Christianity isn’t very good… Though really there is definitely each one has a story why it went wrong rather they didn’t have the funds, the time, or to scared being creative. Though it’s rather different story when a Christian makes content that isn’t a Bible but more inspired like say the Hobbit. Yes, Scott the creator of FNAF is a Christian from what I heard so there is that.
It’s just about what the creator’s mom said that probably tempered the creative aspects of the show in its Christianity: 1) Don’t depict Jesus as a vegetable 2) Don’t depict the vegetables praying 3) Focus on how God loves everyone and made them unique. Could you imagine the show’s legacy if they showed vegetables praying to a picture of zucchini Jesus?
I live in northeast Alabama, and around 2009-2010 we had a strange man show up at our door, he was selling subscriptions for this game and for a couple of other games. It was all Christian stuff, and my mother is disabled, so it was always difficult for us to go to church. So my parents figured this would be a good way for us to get some Christian content and for us to learn about the Bible. The guy selling these was a scammer, me and my brother where interested and wanted to play the games; but once my parents paid, we never received anything. We never saw the guy again, and we never could reach him on the phone or by email or anything.
Some popular Christian music from the 2000s had some pretty good bangers. When my parents had me go to church school after the elementary school day in the early 2000s, watching Veggitales definitely was a highlight.
@@rompevuevitos222 It's more our American sensibilities, albeit more modern, I wonder what the European context would be, since they have an issue with violence moreso than we do, but sexual stuff is given a pass more often, iirc
I still enjoy Bibleman, lol. It is just so campy, and a lot of times you get that Adam West Batman vibe from it. I also enjoyed watching Superbook, Commander Kelly and the Super Kids, and Flying House. McGee and Me was fun to watch too. Not saying that these were masterpieces, and there is a point that most Christian media that targets kids are really really terrible. A lot of the people who make it just go: It's Christian, that's enough for Christian families to buy it. Of the Christian Games I had growing up, I only really enjoyed Catechumen. SIDE NOTE: I was raise Christian and still idenitfy as Christian, and I make fantasy RPG games using RPG Maker. Well, because of this...my grandma keeps trying t convince me to make a Christian RPG with RPG Maker. Seeing videos like this....sometimes I get tempted to do it just to see if I can make something good with Christian lessons and morals tied to it.
I'd have to rewatch Bibleman, but from what I remember it was a franchise that took itself somewhat serious. By that I mean they set up their universes' rules, set up the boundaries, set up what the universe was about. It was campy, it was a little preachy but it at least didn't make the rules up as it went. You can tell it was made by someone who at least cared about story, it's like The Room how that movie is over the top and campy but at least Tommy Wisseau thought he was making the best movie he could and in those cases I can respect that more than someone who half-asses their universe or movie.
Yaaay, Someone else who watched commander Kelly, Flying house and the super kids and Mcgee and me! I think Mcgee and me was ok, same with bibleman lol. But I also identify as a Christian and I'm a writer lol. Sometimes i wanna make something that is christian and good too, but idk
Have you ever heard of the ‘Buck Denver Asks’ series? Their main iteration was “What’s in the Bible?” while my favorite one was “Why do We Call it Christmas?” It was made by the same guy who made Veggietales. It’s really cute and informative. Even my parents were learning new stuff and they’ve been Christians for like 20+ years. It’d be pretty cool to see your reaction/thoughts about it.
Bible school always ended up being super fun when I was a kid because my church always had fun activities planned and 'themes' with matching decorations and stage plays. Even prizes that could be won each weekend throughout the grade levels.. Despite all that the biggest thing I came away with in terms of teaching Christianity was how god awful ALL Christian media was. Easily the most memorable part. It's quite the shame really
To point out one piece of Christian content I do remember quite fondly, Adventures in Odyssey. A radio drama of all things that my church had some CDs of. Really good stuff with a pretty good range of topics and stories. (Stuff ranging from things as mundane as a family scrambling to get ready for church in the morning, to more serious topics like the soda shop owner recounting his time serving in WW2 in the Pacific theater.)
"you can't move the camera and move at the same time." 1: I can. But I used to set arrow keys instead of WASD in the past; because arrows make more sense to me. Yes, present tense. Since I tend to use gamepads whenever possible, I'm only burdened with keyboard when a gamepad is inconvienent. 2: Left-handed people would use such a setup, too, but with the mouse on the left side of the keyboard.
That jab at Bibleman was uncalled for. The original writers for the first couple episodes were hilarious. The mild antisemitism afterwards was upsetting though.
I feel duty-bound to mention: I absolutely played this game and honestly have great memories of it. Were not a big video game house (not for religious reasons we just were a Disney movie and books people). No idea how my mom found it other than we were (and still are) a very religious family. I remember the controls being weirdly satisfying and it was mostly just helping biblical figures take care of problems. I have a specific memory of a David vs Saul fetch quest game going back and forth between David hiding and Saul hunting him. Weird game. And I can confirm, never had an online multiplayer.
One of the artists for this game, Josh Hano, made a game called Nefarious, which got a subsequent webcomic. Huge fan of it. He confirmed this on the official Nefarious discord server.
Honestly, You've GOT TO watch the Chosen. It is one of the best forms of Christian media I think I've ever watched. It doesn't feel preachy or even that the quality was neglected to pander to Christian audiences. It's an AMAZING series and it gets super interesting (especially later in the first season). I had the privilege to meet some of the cast and it was a super cool experience; I found the disciple Judas to be especially funny. 10/10 would recommend.
Uh, does Narnia count as a ‘Christian’ series? I mean I was 10 when I watched the really old animated movie from ‘79, and I’m not Christian, and even I could tell Aslan was Jesus immediately.
it doesn't. Lewis was an "on again off again" with his faith at the time of writing Narnia and honestly it does have similarities but in a way, but the pagan influence is still very strong
Very much an influenced by but not actually Christian. But it's an interesting read when you do know what is being referenced when it's not the obvious stuff.
By the time Lewis wrote his books, he was deeply Christian. His on/off tines was during his adolescence and young adulthood. He was already knee deep into Christian Apologetic by the time he wrote Narnia. He wrote the Screwtape Letters near a decade before the first Narnia book. As a master of allegory, he incorporated many Christian themes but did not set out for an allegorical work.
Need to get some guest hosts from different religious backgrounds to help but there's a lot of really terrible religious kid's media in general - it's just easier to see the Christian stuff because it tends to get shoved in western audiences' faces more.
Islamic media (atleast here in Indonesia and Malaysia) is pretty good. It's not the most top-tier quality but stuff like Nussa, Omar and Hana, Diva and Friends, and Upin & Ipin are enjoyable enough (tbf Upin & Ipin isn't really an Islamic show, just has a lot of Islamic characters and morals)
In my opinion the absolute best part of our Religion classes in school is when they show us christian movies and stuff, like honestly, I couldn't stop laughing, they were so poorly made I thought they were parodies. So glad there are some actually good christian entertainment media like Veggietales and The Prince of Egypt but the things we were shown in class were just so so freaking hilarious ironically.
I grew up Christian and VeggieTales was the only Christian cartoon I would seriously watch. My mom wasn't too strict on the media we could watch, so me and my brother could watch secular cartoons as well!
In the comments of the lost media wiki page about it, someone said they found the file that holds the game itself and actually linked it in their comment.
I grew up much the same way. Even went to a similar school in my later school years. And I have many of the same opinions regarding Christian media, especially games. That is why I decided to start my own Christian Game company specifically designed to reject what makes these games so bad.
I don’t know if you’ve ever seen it but one of the few Christian Games I’ve played that was legitimately engaging if not good is El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron. It’s not Bible stories by any measure but the art style and biblical characters of archangels and god certainly make it an interesting play
"When it comes to Christian content, it's Christian first, and then, maybe, quality next." The same applies to any media created to push a particular narrative/ideology (religious or otherwise), as opposed to media driven by a sincere desire to entertain, inspire, inform, celebrate, persuade, provoke, etc. The latter type is still inevitably influenced by the creator's own convictions and experiences, but the media product itself has a life and identity of its own.
God is probably on his throne thinking, “Is this the best quality content I can get? Just look at my neighbor down there, having all the quality he wants.”
0:28 good to know, It always struck me as very odd how old internet content creators like the Nostalgia Critic or the Angry Videogame Nerd were completely oblivious to Protestantism and other forms of christian fundamentalism, as someone from another country I assumed most of USA had plenty of christian denominations everywhere.
I was raised vaguely non-denominational Christian with some catholic or baptist or Methodist (and later Mormon) leanings depending on the side of the family we were hanging out with. I grew up watching Veggie Tales and Adventures from the Book of Virtues without even internalizing that they were Christian specific. I thought it was just the story they were telling, not that I was watching something that was essentially Christian propaganda, even if it was quality. Seeing how much other crappy Christian-centric shit has sprouted up in the last 20 years, I’m realizing that the best “Christian” media are the ones that include stories and people from all walks of life. Showing Christianity off as one of many, instead of as the Only.
_The Miracle Maker_ (1999) was another very decent Christian animation film that I'd say is worth checking out. Animated in both 2D and stop-motion, and had Ralph Fiennes as Jesus!
As someone who grew up in what seems to be a similar environment to Saberspark in terms of religion, I am just glad I was able to watch and play more or less whatever I wanted as a kid. Otherwise, I probably would have had a much different childhood media wise.
There is a Christian stemapunk mmo my family played a couple years ago, cant think of the name, but from what I remember, it was pretty competently done, had a turn based combat system, unique art style, and 3 season of content last I checked. Had to look it up, it's called the aetherlight chronicles I believe, and it looks dead.

My gosh, what about the fever dream of The Zoo Race? It makes no sense. But yeah, I do appreciate good quality Christian content. Wish the people making such would actually try somewhat to properly convey stories in the dang book well rather than a contender for "Closest to Rappsittie Street Kids Award" of quality.
I LOL’d because there was a commercial right after the John 3:16 quote some dude was walking down some stairs and then fell through the stairs but only to chest level, I think I need some sleep.

Personally, I thought The Bible Game was a good Christian game. It was sort of a mixture of a gameshow and Mario Party and had a good soundtrack. In fact, me and my brother liked it better than Mario Party lol
I only remember bits and pieces of 2 Christian Games on my Family's PC back when I was 7. One was a Noah's Ark game that I believe consisted of mini-games and Bible Stories. The other I remember was a Jonah and the Whale game that had a Kangaroo mascot.
You should on your main channel review Story keepers! Its a Christian series too and no one talks about it! I also played big bible town when I was a kid if you have questions I remember all of it. I also played it to completion and had a membership too.
I definitely had the demo of this game on CD as a kid. I ran up the mountain right in front of the spawn point and fell off the map. I never touched it again.
I'm now getting religion ads because of this video. It's more like toontown I watched this animation series called story keepers when I was a child duing the 90s. It was a British animation that was based in the roman Times where Romans tortured Christians. It follows a group of said Christians as they escape Empire Ceaser and his army, on the way as the title goes they tell stories of the old testament. It wasn't bad but I haven't seen it since I was around maybe 7,10 at the time. But as I remember the animation wasn't bad it was quite engaging
10:57 I'm playing the 3DS remake of SMT Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers and has a reverse problem: It uses 2D static character images (not sprites, digital illustrations) on 3D backgrounds, which still look like they belong on the Sega Saturn, even though the 3DS can render slightly above sixth-gen console graphics, albeit at a lower resolution...
I would like you to make a video about club penguin itself and the problems it had, notably the treatment towards players that didn't do the paid service

I really wish that all parents learn that part of being a good parent is allowing your kids to think for themselves. & this includes with religion too. I grew up Christian, went to church every Sunday, was involved in the church to some extent at least, & didn’t really interact with nonChristians. But because I was able to to think for myself I still became a pagan. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with being Christian. Just don’t force your beliefs down anyone’s throat & that goes double for children, especially your own. Any religion can be beautiful or ugly, depending on how you go about it
Friends and heroes was good. I watched that at Sunday school and it had a full plot not focused just on Christianity but did link back. We loved that in Sunday school
While we’re on the subject, does anyone else remember the “Kingdom Adventure” Christian puppet series? 😂 I feel like that was one of those shows that I remember being good and not overtly Christian, even though it had a ~Christian~ message.
Does anyone else remember that terrible Christian manga called serenity where they harass a delinquent girl into being Christian? And they basically say that she's a bad person because her moms divorced and she wasn't raised Christian?
I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again: it’s sad that the only legitimately good Christian cartoon that I can think of, is the one about talking vegetables.
Holy crap! This looks exactly like a single player game I played on my pc as a game, I believe it was called “Bible Champions” And was also made by 3rd day. My Christian grandparents gave it to me for Christmas one year. it would be great if you could look into this.
@@w1ccaphobia I was thinking more of a TV series where Peter I think that's his name has only been bible man for a few months and is dealing with his anger. I could imagine some really great fight scenes.
One of my favorite Christian content growing up was actually an anime. 'In The Beginning' was a great show that ran on Saturdays in the morning that didn't shy away from the violence featured in most Bible stories. I was fortunate that I was able to catch it before going to Church on Saturdays. Other Christian shows I enjoyed was of course, Veggie Tales, The Beginner's Bible, and The Greatest Adventure: Stories From the Bible
I miss going to Lifeway to be honest. Sad, it had to close unfortunately. I went to the last one ever 2-3 years ago before it closed. But, the stuff there was kind of expensive. We had one here years ago, but was closed later on. Turned into an FYE.

hey saber! there's this small unfiction game series on youtube called diminish and it's absolutely beautiful. i would love if you could review it! it's very small and i believe it deserves more recognition because it's truly such an amazing and real art piece that has made me cry plenty
First of all Bibleman wasn't really that bad. It's decent as an ironic watch. The actors didn't take it seriously and neither should you. View it like the silly 60s batman show with "bat shark repellent" and you should have a decent time. Just stay away from the animated series. It's trash. As for good christain media besides Veggietales, there's a series I watch called "The Chosen" which is an adaptation of the story of Jesus done in live action. Honestly it's amazing and really helps flesh out the world and the people in the story compared to the biblical accounts. Plus it has S tier set and costume design that helps you get super immersed in the show, like the events shown actually happened even though most of it is biblical headcanon. There was also this show I had on DVD as a kid that was about the ten commandments. The MC was the grandson of Moses and had a bunch of talking animals. There were 10 episodes and each episode was themed around one of the 10 commandments. So the first one was "you shall not worship any other gods" which was an adaptation of the golden calf story where one of the talking animals had a god complex and willingly joined the ceremony thinking he would be worshiped when really he would be the sacrifice. He was then saved by Moses. Another episode was an adaptation of the story of the guy who stole treasure from some city when they were ordered to destroy everything, and he also found oil or something and swore on god's name a lot. The last episode was the MC stealing a toy from his best friend and then breaking it, which was about the commandment about not coveting. If I remember correctly it was pretty good with decent animation, but I haven't watched it in over a decade so I can't say for certain if it's good. Finally, there is one last series I would like to talk about: the dragons in our midst series. Honestly, these books are the best written books ever made. They are absolute masterpieces and are SEVERELY underated. It's a christain book series involving dragons and it's SUPER deep with insanely intricate worldbuilding and so much emotion. The MC is a half dragon with the power to breath fire and his GF is a girl with dragon wings who can fly. Every book just gets more and more insane until it's starts involving the LITERAL NEPHILHIM, demon dragons, and the events of Revelation. It's wild. The second book brought me to tears when one of the characters died, and the main villain of the first arc is so absolutely pure evil that you can't help but absolutely despise him. I never read past the first arc but let me tell you the later books get INTENSE. Honestly one of the greatest series ever written and puts Chronicles of Narnia and it's generic fantasy bullcrap, beyond obvious cheesy biblical parallels, and thinly-veiled racism (in the last book) to shame.
Praise God that this game doesn't exist anymore...

Same it could be so much better but mediocrity is pushed.

Ten Commandments was even a remake, technically, since the director did a silent version before the version that's more well known

Christians be like: "nothing says child-friendly like some infanticide and genocide and violence".
No anger here, just the double standard is stupid, Violence is bad but biblical violence is good? The Prince of Egypt heroically killing thousands of children is... questionable?
Most of the movies and games are probably so awful because they exclude the cool, violent stuff so that parents buy it for their kids.

My child brain thought a lot of movies were Christian when they weren’t (to my knowledge). Like Lion King! I thought Simba was like the prodigal son who rediscovered his faith. Funny you mention Lion King, when the Rhythm of the Pridelands/TLK 2 had "He Lives in You" on their soundtrack. A song that completely removed from actually being about lion dad actually fits perfectly well with Christianity.

Christian media is almost uniformly mediocre, shading into terrible - movies, music and games. I think there are two main reasons for this:
@@Cajek2 You've never been outside the Bible Belt, have you?
@@Cajek2 I
Yes, with a "but." Many churches operate on tithes, but when it comes to Christian media like movies, games and music the motive is profit.
The vast majority of Christian media is not tied to any particular church or even denomination, but is branded generally "Christian," making it available to the widest possible audience.
Since these things are not tied to any particular branch of Christianity or individual church, the name of the game in Christian media is not "tithes" but profit pure and simple.

Go for it. It wouldn’t hurt to bring some actually good Christian media into the world.
@@ChrisSuperDude Exactly. Just avoid the Full 3D Animated seasons. I tried watching them and they lost all the charm the live action stuff had.
Honestly same to that! Like, I wanna put an effort in and see if I can make a good christian game, but unsure of what i’d even go for lol
I'm a Lutheran, and I spent a good chunk of my childhood going to Sunday School. I haven't heard of or played this game until I watched this video.
Let's be glad that this is lost media

1: I can.
As a left hander, I’d still be inconvenienced since I use the mouse with my right hand
That jab at Bibleman was uncalled for. The original writers for the first couple episodes were hilarious. The mild antisemitism afterwards was upsetting though.
4chan's /pol/ board must of became the new writers after the first couple episodes
Wait, there was mild antisemitism afterwards? I grew up watching it and both that and Spiderman were my first superhero media I saw.

LarryBoy and the Bad Apple was a PS2 game that sits deep and heavy in my memory.
Also “Adventures in Odyssey” had a PC game I can barely remember.
@@jaycemeswain7262 The Pagan influence is still very strong in Christianity, so imho it's even and Narnia still counts in a not propaganda way.
@@autobotstarscream765 Lewis & Tolkien(they were good friends) were heavily inspired by pagan myth, most notably Norse.
I would be traumatized and probably become atheist with some of these horrible things
Need to get some guest hosts from different religious backgrounds to help but there's a lot of really terrible religious kid's media in general - it's just easier to see the Christian stuff because it tends to get shoved in western audiences' faces more.
I'd be really interested to see media from other religions to see the differences and similarities

@Designs I mean the game Fight of Gods actually has very good graphics, the levels are cool and it's a more than a decent game overall
I grew up Christian and VeggieTales was the only Christian cartoon I would seriously watch. My mom wasn't too strict on the media we could watch, so me and my brother could watch secular cartoons as well!
Passion of the christ is not just controversial, it is antisemetic.
So cool! If you upload stuff I’ll sub!
"When it comes to Christian content, it's Christian first, and then, maybe, quality next."
The same applies to any media created to push a particular narrative/ideology (religious or otherwise), as opposed to media driven by a sincere desire to entertain, inspire, inform, celebrate, persuade, provoke, etc. The latter type is still inevitably influenced by the creator's own convictions and experiences, but the media product itself has a life and identity of its own.

"Get the Bible"
**Hardcore music from a UA-cam ad plays immediately after**
God is probably on his throne thinking, “Is this the best quality content I can get?
When can we get a review for Bibleman?
I remember a bit of that growing up, but Veggietales was always so good
_The Miracle Maker_ (1999) was another very decent Christian animation film that I'd say is worth checking out.

Personally, I thought The Bible Game was a good Christian game. It was sort of a mixture of a gameshow and Mario Party and had a good soundtrack. In fact, me and my brother liked it better than Mario Party lol
I mean, Mario Party is kinda unsuferable

It's more like toontown
I watched this animation series called story keepers when I was a child duing the 90s.
I’m glad shows like Chosen have come out. To bring quality back into the christian media sphere.
I'm so happy someone mentioned The Chosen. It is so well made.

One of my favorite Christian content growing up was actually an anime. 'In The Beginning' was a great show that ran on Saturdays in the morning that didn't shy away from the violence featured in most Bible stories.

Honestly one of the greatest series ever written and puts Chronicles of Narnia and it's generic fantasy bullcrap, beyond obvious cheesy biblical parallels, and thinly-veiled racism (in the last book) to shame.
most golden-age Hollywood blockbusters were religious stories! Ten Commandments, Ben-Hur, absolutely incredible masterpieces!
