Folks It is a ceramic flower pot. Buy 5 at a time they are dirt cheap. When you decide to clean your filter - STOP! Throw it out and replace it with a new one. You can scrub that ceramic all day you are not getting rid of the trapped sediment. It is now inside the ceramic. Just replace it, I ran a Reverse Osmosis water system for a Regional Dialysis Center, this filter is not a new concept, I been using in Thailand for many years. Nice vid tho,,,,

Congratulations for the many people (I'm one of them) who have taken an interest and also implementing your water filter creation. I love iit because it works and is so much cheaper than the $400.00 one I bought and have to buy filters for it every 6 months at a cost of $100.00 + now. I do still use a copper urn for drinking water. 😊
hey- that's really kind of you to come in here and say that. I hope that all is well with you? and that whatever happens over the coming months/ years that you keep a cool head and that you make all the right moves.
Some pots may be sprayed with a clear coat is where the sanding may be needed to remove it.. To help prime the pot. One might place the pot in a bucket or bin big enough to submerge it in hot water and allowed to soak like over night.

Well my friend, hate to say it but the rain water is just as tainted. Chemtrail heaven. But what can we do? Exactly what your doing, the best we can do with what is given to us. Great video!
Great addendum, I had a question about the terra cotta and you answered it. The rest of those concerns you either addressed originally or were not thought through prior to posting. Thanks for your patient response
In the tropics I came across 'drip stones' which were put on window ledges to produce cooled filtered water. Your terracotta filter made me wonder if you could do something similar? Perhaps use a clay chimney pot for the body? Probably only useful in the summer, but that's when cool drinking water is so refreshing anyway. More power to your elbow!
I repurposed one of my dark colored rainbarrels into a rain catchment barrel by moving it into the yard as opposed to keeping it where it caught runoff from the roof. I will be moving another barrel out into the yard as soon as I get it emptied..... I have gathered the materials to make several of the water filters. This is such a genius way to create a long lasting, very good water filter & catchment system! Thank you for sharing this!
Thanks for this. The water in Wanganui is terrible, combined with the old pipes in my rental...😬 I am going to be trying this as I can't sustain buying drinking water any longer. Great Channel.
Hallo! After having watched your first Video (?) oh this we went straight out and got what was needed! Quite proud of our version we could hardly keeps ourselves from constantly turning the tap to watch our first "selfmade" drinkingwater! 1 day later unfortunately still nothing but a fine coat of sweat around the terracotta pott. I wonder, if the clay hast something to do with it? So, now, thanks to the heavy-lead-problem I will be out again later to get hold of an italian make! Fingers crossed, that is the solution!?? After another 3 days I unfortunately must say, it wasn't. The Pott hast let through about 5 ml. As I am getting rather nervous on Not having our own emergency supply I have bought a Berky filter. How disappointing.
You know what? You just gave me an idea of storing rainwater that I can filter later. Btw, I still have to check your other video on how to make water from air. Thank you.
WOW!! What a great cheap efficient way to filter water! Strictly out of curiosity, I would love to see the test results from city water, versus your rain water; both having gone through your filter. Only because I wonder if the terracotta would maybe filter out some of the chemicals the water treatment plants add to it and how much it would remove? No matter either way though; this is GREAT! If your water source was poor to begin with, you could easily have a plastic tub on top with gravel sand and charcoal for the water to filter through first. This is a wonderful idea!!
Filtered rainwater will always be acidic, too acidic, what they call "aggressive". Aggressive water does a lot of things you don't want it to do. Get an aquarium ph kit. Test and then add phUP dropwise and retest until you are at 7-7.2. You will protect your health. It really is a step you shouldn't omit if you are drinking rainwater long-term.
I am a fellow Kiwi new to your channel. A couple of days ago I happened upon your water filtration video, immediately subscribed and this is only the second video I've seen. I am looking forward to making my way through your previous video catalog. All the best for the future.
Hi, thankyou for this podcast, awesome design, I'm going to be following suit as my water filter is getting a bit costly, nothing else like the taste of fresh water, massive respect, J&HXx

Hi... so good to see a kiwi channel and someone facing kiwi prices and products! Where did you get an Italian terracotta pot? The affordable ones I am seeing online are from Aussie but say italian (whatever that means)
For those wanting to know The 12 inch terra cotta planters use a 1 and 1/8 sink plug. Note 12 inch is the description. I believe that the diameter. The 8 inch is a smaller hole. I believe a 15/16 cork will fit. Going to check next time I go to the city. The 12 inch also is the right size for a 5 gallon bucket. And the pots at Lowe's Home depot are Italy terra cotta. I never looked until I seen his video. Btw Make sure the ones you buy are not cracked. First store I went to every one of the 12:inch were cracked. Matter of fact every one of the other sizes were also crack except to one 8 inch I bought.
I made a version of this filter as soon as I saw your video. I made it with a glass water dispenser and a flower pot made in Germany. Unfortunately, the pot was probably too small or the clay was too fine and the water had a hard time filtering through. I was averaging about a drop every few hours, lol. I even sanded the pot inside and out. I do highly recommend finding a natural cork to plug the bottom. Your terracotta might be more porous than mine, but it's also possible that the wooden plug is leaking and allowing more water to flow through. Craft stores sometimes have natural corks, but they might be mixed in with decorative corks made with glue. I went down a research hole after I found your video. Terracotta filters, such as the ones made by Potters Without Boarders, are made with a 50/50 mix of clay and sawdust. The sawdust burns away in the kiln, leaving tiny holes in the clay that allow water to pass through more easily. Plain terracotta flower pots do naturally have microscopic holes within them that allow water to pass, but the flow rate is abysmal without the sawdust step... Clays from different locations would obviously have different properties and grain sizes, however. I found another crafty man on youtube who made a filter with a much larger pot. His flowrate was a few gallons every 24 hours. Not great, but better than my set up. The larger pot, added weight of the water, and larger surface area helps to improve water flow. I'll try out a larger pot tomorrow and update this comment. I've also started looking for terracotta filter manufacturers who are willing to ship to the USA, but no luck so far. Honestly, it might be easier to take a pottery class! So besides finding a larger pot, I might also try Itallian terracotta or a clay olla pot.
so easy to check for leaks - just lift the pot and see how it drips- It should be 'sweating' evenly all over below the water line with no drips from the cork or bung.
@@joanobrien722 From my research, yes. It can take several hours for the pot to be primed with water. However, the clay may still not be pours enough to allow for an easy flow rate, as mine wasn't. I ended up turning my pot filter into a traditional charcoal filter. The base layer is natural iron sand from ebay, the middle is activated charcoal from the pet fish store, and the top layer is Zeolithe from the pet fish store. I plugged with hole with cotton as a filter and sprayed the rocks with colloidal silver. I washed every layer of sand/rock separately under running water. Water tasted like clay for the first few days, but now its very soft and clear.
You’re freaking brilliant sir. People that can’t grasp what you were saying in your first video, well let’s just say, they’re “special”. 😂😂😂. Love ya, all the way across the pond, Cindy ❤
If you feel the need for a decent scourer you can simply make a paste from a few drops of water and some Bicarbonate of Soda. It to has anti microbial properties and is a great cleaning agent! If you do make one with a glass outer collection container watch out for light causing growth of nasties!

You can buy a clay disk with silver and place it over the hole in the bottom. If you pour slowly, the disk shouldn't budge the silver in the clay will help purify the water just needs to be replaced about every 6 month or so because it will get dirty from any contaminants that might be in your water😊👍❤️
I recently found your channel and find it incredibly enlightening and fun. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your brilliance. Much love from the Midwest US. 💖
Great system I'd be tempted to use it without the collodial silver, as I'd be more worried about turning blue than about catching anything from the filtered rain water.
Oh - STOP IT lol. search it on the net- you will only find photos of one man turned blue- cos he was an idiot who made it badly and drank litres of it daily for years. It diddnt kill him.

Dear sir, I am from the Netherlands. The drinking water is polluted here. I love your video about making the waterfilter! I wonder wether the terracotta pots block the chemicals? I want to filter the drinking water. That is my question to you dear sir
The same people who scream about eating off stoneware but they cook their food in stainless steel that has been recycled from Churnable. 🤣 You did a great job and hey even the bad comments count for the algorithm so keep them pacified and continue to share your wonderful stuff with us. You are appreciated and my Mother and I are planning on making this filter. Love your rain water catch barrel. Now I have another project to do.
Thank you so much. I'm retired & I can't afford those fancy water filters. Some questions, do I need to boil the rain water before drinking??? Is this system just for rain water?? What about water from other sources, like a pond or creek..
I said it before I'll say it again this is a brilliant channel you remind me of me on steroids in other words I'm very similar to you but you are a lot smarter I'm not putting myself down I have my genius moments but your channel is just like my head I'm always inventing things making things etc etc.... I have a Can-Do attitude and I seem to get presented with problems that nobody else ever seems to get so I've become very adept at problem solving with whatever I have at hand....God bless
At the very least you have produced a great video. As far as whether or not this is a good method of filtering water, seems to me the ultimate test will be your own health over time. Considering that, may I ask how long you have been doing this? Have you sort of kept notes on your own health? So far have you seen any negative effects that might possibly be attributed to the water you are drinking? I may like to try this myself however I need to know for a fact this is a method of thoroughly purifying water before I have my family drinking this water.
Where can I get the wood for my plug. I can find everything else, but the right antibacterial wood. I was reading up on the Lawson Cypress and it says it's poisonous. I think that's because of the antibacterial components in the wood. Do you have a link for buying the wood?
A bientôt !
Both great videos. Thank you. Question though.... I am not sure what colloidal silver to use as far as concentration is concerned. The link in the last video didn’t bring up a specific strength of silver. Could you please explain what concentration is best and do you just spray it or soak it on the inside and outside. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing. Does the terracotta pot act as a filter ? I’ve seen others that have extra filters in them. Just new at this and trying to figure it out.
My rain barrels get algae inside during summer. Do yours too? I am using charcoal from my mason oven for "biocoal" or terra preta, but I will use coal as a filter for various things, eventually for drinking water unless flower pots suffice. Thanks for the video.
you may need to find the right sized cooking "stock pot", and convert it by drilling the hole for the tap. I have used a Stefani ceramic 'filtering' system that I didn't want to have to pay to replace the ceramic candle that does the filtering, as they are becoming more expensive.
Question for you my dear: I do not have cypress available here in Utah where I live. Can you please give me with a hand; I'm a single mom and need to make this its so important for all of right now since judgmenton American is here. Do you have any suggestions ? Please let me know. Thanks Elizabeth

Thank you so much for these videos, new subscriber from Arkansas in the United States.
I loved your first video as I said about the wood stick you put in it anti bacterial type absolutely brilliant thous criticizing your amazing home made Berkie was genius and in Canada know $500 and crazy higher saving is a must now adays and don’t let a few uneducated people about it bother you, pat your self on the back I say Bloody bravo!!!!
Thanks 👍
You can buy a clay disk with silver and place it over the hole in the bottom. If you pour slowly, the disk shouldn't budge the silver in the clay will help purify the water just needs to be replaced about every 6 month or so because it will get dirty from any contaminants that might be in your water😊👍❤️
I recently found your channel and find it incredibly enlightening and fun. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your brilliance. Much love from the Midwest US. 💖
You are awesome for saying so- Thank you
Great system I'd be tempted to use it without the collodial silver, as I'd be more worried about turning blue than about catching anything from the filtered rain water.
Oh - STOP IT lol. search it on the net- you will only find photos of one man turned blue- cos he was an idiot who made it badly and drank litres of it daily for years. It diddnt kill him.
Just add a silver coin into the tank.
Very clever with your water filter pot!
Thank you for all your time !!! You are fantastic 🙌🙌🙌
I found your channel guide by accident, now I’m such a fan. I love each show❣️❣️❣️
Thank you Marc- so kind of you to take time to let me know.
...what a great idea!!....so i got everything on your list...i am very happy to be prepared and im sharing this simple ingenious filtering method with everyone i know...
...and i bought some seeds and garden tools so i can be totally prepared to grow my own food while my emerg fd supply lasts 6 mos....have your followers heard what adapt 2030 says about this yrs crop report and why getting fully prepared before sept 15th might be the time that grocery stores start needing police due to food rioting and flash mob stealing all the food?....ive told everyone i can about it...MAY GOD BE WITH US! May the Universe let its abundance flow!
Dear sir, I am from the Netherlands. The drinking water is polluted here. I love your video about making the waterfilter!
I wonder wether the terracotta pots block the chemicals? I want to filter the drinking water. That is my question to you dear sir
does not block chemicals- thats why I drink fresh rainwater- Its the best I have available. This and Colloidal Silver make it better again.
@@t.h.o.r. thank you for your anwser in patience and kindness 🌻
This is an excellent idea...l have seen many diy filters but this is tops
The same people who scream about eating off stoneware but they cook their food in stainless steel that has been recycled from Churnable. 🤣 You did a great job and hey even the bad comments count for the algorithm so keep them pacified and continue to share your wonderful stuff with us. You are appreciated and my Mother and I are planning on making this filter. Love your rain water catch barrel. Now I have another project to do.
Yes I bet the complainers all have plastic water pipes and non stick fry pans!
Thank you for sharing this information!!
I'm sorry you had to repeat yourself. You were so clear in the first video, but thanks for doing for those who missed the details.
great videos mate , cheers fron Niagara Falls , Canada
You are awesome! Thank you. Keep sharing my friend ~
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you so much. I'm retired & I can't afford those fancy water filters. Some questions, do I need to boil the rain water before drinking??? Is this system just for rain water?? What about water from other sources, like a pond or creek..
What do you think of adding activated charcoal and some purified sand??
Love this good on you ! We work with what we have 🍃🌼🍃
Rain water also has hydrogen peroxide naturally in it..which is a natural anti bacteria..pets and plants prefer it to.
Great Kiwi Lad.... thanks for sharing👍
Ist's just a great idea and very good explaining - Thank you!
Subcribed ..... and greetings from Germany 🤗
Thank you for sharing this information. I have access to tap water. Can activated charcoal or other materials be used to filter impurities?
Where can I get the wood for my plug. I can find everything else, but the right antibacterial wood. I was reading up on the Lawson Cypress and it says it's poisonous. I think that's because of the antibacterial components in the wood. Do you have a link for buying the wood?
Thank you for this important follow-up video
I’m wondering if using a pumice stick would work for cleaning inside the water pot?
excellent info! wish you loads of luck....
A bientôt !
Thankyou, and yes I agree- activated carbon would be a big improvement.
THANKS ONCE AGAIN ,,, MANY BLESSINGS
Thanks for your knowledge. Greetings from Nottingham UK
Aye up!- I used to live in Letwell
Ya did good! I will be using this method as soon as I get a flower pot. 🌼
Both great videos. Thank you.
Question though.... I am not sure what colloidal silver to use as far as concentration is concerned. The link in the last video didn’t bring up a specific strength of silver. Could you please explain what concentration is best and do you just spray it or soak it on the inside and outside. Thank you.
Great video, I still want to know if it will clean dirty water?
Thanks for sharing. Does the terracotta pot act as a filter ? I’ve seen others that have extra filters in them. Just new at this and trying to figure it out.
Great job in answering the questions
I try. so hard to get people to read pinned comments and follow links to further info. you are one of the chosen - haha
thanks man for simplisity of life from Brazil
Enjoying your creativity! Thank you for the inspiration. Will be trying this filter.
My rain barrels get algae inside during summer. Do yours too?
I am using charcoal from my mason oven for "biocoal" or terra preta, but I will use coal as a filter for various things, eventually for drinking water unless flower pots suffice. Thanks for the video.
Looks good this but how does your system actually take the likes of chlorine out of my tap water, which is pretty bad just now?
Thank you for the extra comments though you did say some of it in your original video. Great idea! 💕🌿
Just: well-done!!
Great video! I've looked for a stainless steel can to hold the water. They don't seem to sell one.
you may need to find the right sized cooking "stock pot", and convert it by drilling the hole for the tap. I have used a Stefani ceramic 'filtering' system that I didn't want to have to pay to replace the ceramic candle that does the filtering, as they are becoming more expensive.
Question for you my dear: I do not have cypress available here in Utah where I live.
Can you please give me with a hand;
I'm a single mom and need to make this its so important for all of right now since judgmenton American is here. Do you have any suggestions ? Please let me know.
Thanks Elizabeth
