The only way to avoid it is to know what people would do to cheese, and see how you can play your level the unintended way. Find any potential cheese, and make adjustments to eliminate them.
well if you want the intended route to be the route they take you should also make it the ONLY possible route. your intended route was mostly an auto level in the end.

Since this video was posted it's clear that he didn't use the intended routes, and thus didn't get the intended experience. Blaming someone for cheesing your level is just a way to blame someone else when you didn't meet your goal. Please note that I haven't rated the level in any way, neither the way Ryu played it or the way it was intended to be played.

You should have already known if you watch his videos. A cannon shooting shells, everybody think of shellmets by that, especially those who play regularly. The intended way was nice and clean. Next time make the level to proceed in only forward direction, not back and forth. And make softlocks which can only be opened using the intended way.

It's been almost a year since I uploaded this video. I didnt even have any views until about 5 months after I uploaded it. It really sucks all the HATE comments I'm seeing. I know Ryukahr in real life. I had fun watching him cheese my level. That's why I smiled so much throughout it all. I was just happy to see him play it honestly. It breaks my heart that so many people comment such horrible things though... I get you dont like my level or think it was poorly designed, but you dont have to attack me personally and I'm sorry my level had flaws. I tried for many hours to make something nice but I was just inexperienced and left loop holes I didnt think about. With this level of hate from so many people I may just delete this video... which sucks... because I enjoyed actually making it..
Oh, thats a shame, I personally enjoyed the video and had fun playing the level you made. Its sad to see a creator thinking about taking down his creation because of some mean criticisim. I hope my comment changes your mind and shows you that some of us really enjoyed the work you put into this.

As someone who has made kaizo levels that Ryu hasn't been able to beat, let me tell you, this level was pretty poorly made. The biggest indication was when you said he "cheesed the ending"..What was there to cheese in the ending? There's literally nothing stopping him from freely moving in that space. If you want him to fall directly down, then make a narrow path that he can't go around. The level also had zero indication on what you were even suppose to do. The underground sub level where you had all those doughnut blocks and piranha plants was probably the MOST confusing part..Nothing about that section tells the player to do what you said was intended. There's about a 1% chance anyone would have even gotten the timing right on that section, too. If it's suppose to be pretty much auto to where it's timed to not hit you, you should make it so they don't have the choice to start the timer on the doughnut blocks whenever they want, because unless they are psychic and know the exact timing YOU made it for, then they will die every time.
Yea, Ryukahr is great. I love watching his channel. The thing you learn real quickly from watching him is that he will cheese anything and everything. He tries to take things to areas that they weren't supposed to be in. Also make sure to COMPLETELY wall off your sections, otherwise he'll try to go over them. He's great.
Alllllrighty, I understand you had good intent with this, but cm'on, it's a confusing level. It has no real indication of what the player is actually supposed to do. So here is a way to fix every single issue possible in this level: 12:23 Make a 3,2,1 countdown with pink note blocks to indicate the level is a race, other than the shell being launched there was no indication this level is a race. Make a contraption next to the 3,2,1 counter with a mini thwomp over some stone blocks over a P switch (Make sure it takes 3 seconds for the thwomp to hit the switch so it correlates with the countdown) and put a second BB launcher on top of a breakable block right next to the BB launcher that launches the shell you must race. With this, once the thwomp lands on the p switch the breakable block turns into a coin making the BB launcher blocking the shell launcher fall. Now, the shell will launch right as the 3,2,1 countdown ends. 12:25 Make the first 3 shells that fall spiky so the player knows to spin jump on them and can't grab it for a shellmet. 12:39 That final shell MUST be spiky or the player can use it as a shellmet. It's a complicated thing to cheese but gotta be safe. 12:43 Make the springs note blocks, you can't pick them up. 12:47 Two things, since you're racing the shell, put arrows to the left so the player can immediately recognize they need to head left. ^ Secondly, if the note blocks are placed instead of springs and you did what I told you to make grabbing a shellmet impossible the player won't be able to go right. (This was an edit btw :P ) 13:01 This didn't occur, but a player could easily hop down the space the shell you ride comes from, put a one way wall there. 13:18 Delete the two blocks that push Mario back, if a player walked left at that moment they lose the shell and have to walk the whole way. 13:22 Place a saw in the path the shell runs down and arrows pointing upwards indicating the player must go up. 13:24 Ohhh my gosh its a race, right? Put arrows leading down that path so the player doesn't hesitate to take it. 13:41 This part is supposed to be Auto, right? Make the pipe trap you over the donut blocks and put saws on the sides of the narrow tunnels so that the player can't enter the tunnels the shell is going down. 13:59 Soooo what here is preventing the player from jumping over the shell? Place saws above Mario's running path but not above the note blocks so that running is the only possible option to escape the area. 13:59 Put a saw above that POW block. 14:02 Place an arrow pointing to that second POW so the player knows to hit it, or just make the pow on the floor so the player grabs and throws it. 14:08: The player has ONE chance to realize they need to ride the shell and jump on it? N-no, put a shell launcher there 14:38 Make that exit pipe way easier to reach, one second of waiting and there's no way someone is hitting that. 14:49 Don't put the donut blocks there, that is if you want to keep the fight. Bowsers fights are usually not very fun at all, and waiting around dodging his flames until the shells kill him is definitely not fun either. 15:42 So how was that minute of waiting? At this point just place walls going down from the edges of the pipe so the player has to touch the flag. Aside from 2, all these fixes are extremely simple and something that turns this level from a complicated mess into an actually fun gem. There's a reason this level is expert and it's because it's so unclear and complicated people don't know what to do in it. A little can go a long way.
Good level. Some arrows and some more liberal use of walling off unintended areas with one ways or walls will go a long way. Would have been very fun to play properly, just gotta make em do it!

I think this is the 1st time ive ever seen a world where the map does more work than mario has to. 60% of the time mario is just waiting. The map was harder to read than it was to play, and unless youre holding the players hand showing them where to go, they are not going to figure all that out -- and even if you did, they arnt playing a game, they are being taken on a tour. some will like it, others will feel like they just wasted a lot of time. Objectively, most players will just feel bad that you put in the effort for such a map with so much potential but little required to play it.

But I watched one of his videos and I found him too excitable for my liking. Poobear is boring, and quick to rage. Only other I've checked it was Dashie, which was horrible

Tbh, alot of the comments seem to be aggressive towards this guy for no reason. This guy doesn’t seem upset at Ryu for cheesing the level, but more so at the fact that his level that he put time into was cheesed rediculously.

Not a bad level in its functions and mechanics, just a really terrible job of indicating to the player what they must do. I'm sure you'll learn from it and make better levels in the future that people will play how they were designed to be played 👍

This is why I made him an uncheesable level after I saw him cheese the level I sent him. But so far he hasn't seen it and to make the level worse it's a water level with Red Coins.
5:19 that's not him finding a way to cheese it.. He has no idea what the intended route is, he's just doing whatever until something works. It's at this point you should take measures to prevent cheese, otherwise the intended route will be lost on the player.
Great idea on the level, you got basicly the hard work of timing done, but i would love to see somebody edit this level to make it uncheesable and more clear on what to do. Like at the first crossroad, you could make it that if you come from below (first time) the way would be blocked to the right, but when you ride the shell, the way would be clear. There are so many tricks in Mario Maker to block or makes ways accessable.
The idea of going left just to end up going to the right and then sometimes racing and sometimes riding is very confusing. Its impressive, but not at all how I would have attempted the level.
Most people’s mindset including me is that they always try to find the fastest way to beat the level as I have come across lots of hard levels but because you can easily despawn things by walking of the screen it makes it that much easier
Your level aesthetics look really good and the timing for them looks really hard to tweak to make it just right when designing the level. It would be really fun to play it the intended way because riding on the shells look really cool!! There wasn't much indicators though which is what made the level kinda confusing. While I do agree with the people that you could brush up on the flaws in this level, I don't think you deserve all those hate comments because you tried really hard to design the level and you were also receptive to Ryukahr's playing. I wish you all the best, man!!
This level reminds me of babysitting a little kid pretending to know what he wants me to do. There was no clear path to this level. But hopefully you learned.
Ryu always goes for the shelmets, always tries to grab something and take it with him and if nothing else uses it for jumps. Whoever makes the level is responsible for the cheese that's in it. Ryu is just an expert at exploiting it.

I like the ideas you implemented in your level, definitely tryin to do something cool i can tell. Only problem is that Ryu is a MASTER Cheeser sir. You gotta reallllllllly make sure you find out anyway your level can be cheesed an then find a way to completely de-cheese it lol. I think people are misinterpreting him as being upset. I think he was more amazed at the cheese Ryu found and happy that he was playing his level at all.

I just want to say that I think your level was really cool, and while it may not have had the best indication of what to do, the intended solution did look really nice and flowed in a way that was enjoyable to see. Thanks for the video and don't let the negative comments get you down. It may be cheesable but the level is still pretty cool in my book.
That's the problem making levels for some of the worlds best players. They know every mechanic, meaning if cheese if possible, they will find it.

You need to watch more CarlSagan42. He cheeses almost every level he can. That way you know how to prevent cheeses.

I trialed him after seeing him in a collaboration with poobear and some others, he seemed pretty cool at the event. But I watched one of his videos and I found him too excitable for my liking.
Poobear is boring, and quick to rage.
Only other I've checked it was Dashie, which was horrible

Tbh, alot of the comments seem to be aggressive towards this guy for no reason. This guy doesn’t seem upset at Ryu for cheesing the level, but more so at the fact that his level that he put time into was cheesed rediculously.

Not a bad level in its functions and mechanics, just a really terrible job of indicating to the player what they must do. I'm sure you'll learn from it and make better levels in the future that people will play how they were designed to be played 👍

But so far he hasn't seen it and to make the level worse it's a water level with Red Coins.

5:19 that's not him finding a way to cheese it.. He has no idea what the intended route is, he's just doing whatever until something works. It's at this point you should take measures to prevent cheese, otherwise the intended route will be lost on the player.

Great idea on the level, you got basicly the hard work of timing done, but i would love to see somebody edit this level to make it uncheesable and more clear on what to do. Like at the first crossroad, you could make it that if you come from below (first time) the way would be blocked to the right, but when you ride the shell, the way would be clear. There are so many tricks in Mario Maker to block or makes ways accessable.

The idea of going left just to end up going to the right and then sometimes racing and sometimes riding is very confusing. Its impressive, but not at all how I would have attempted the level.
I thought the level was really genius once I saw how it was meant to be played!

Most people’s mindset including me is that they always try to find the fastest way to beat the level as I have come across lots of hard levels but because you can easily despawn things by walking of the screen it makes it that much easier

Your level aesthetics look really good and the timing for them looks really hard to tweak to make it just right when designing the level. It would be really fun to play it the intended way because riding on the shells look really cool!! There wasn't much indicators though which is what made the level kinda confusing. While I do agree with the people that you could brush up on the flaws in this level, I don't think you deserve all those hate comments because you tried really hard to design the level and you were also receptive to Ryukahr's playing. I wish you all the best, man!!
This level reminds me of babysitting a little kid pretending to know what he wants me to do. There was no clear path to this level. But hopefully you learned.
Ryu always goes for the shelmets, always tries to grab something and take it with him and if nothing else uses it for jumps. Whoever makes the level is responsible for the cheese that's in it. Ryu is just an expert at exploiting it.

This was such a terrible level. You're lucky it even made the cut. In fact, you really got to wonder why he posted it? Because when you watch his video, there is no obvious intended route. Why would he even bother to find one?It just looks like a child's mess. But you've only yourself to blame. I am sorry this happened to you for what it's worth.

The level actually isn't bad. The intended route is actually really clever and with a few crucial fixes he could force that route without arrows.

To be honest as long as you know you can put on a shell as a helmet this level's cheese is extremely obvious in multiple places. Will you ever fix the level??

I like the ideas you implemented in your level, definitely tryin to do something cool i can tell. Only problem is that Ryu is a MASTER Cheeser sir. You gotta reallllllllly make sure you find out anyway your level can be cheesed an then find a way to completely de-cheese it lol. Also, their really wasnt any indication that you were supposed to let the shell do the work most of the time, especially in the part with the piranha plants. Atleast you tried though and he played it.. so.. theirs that
