I know a lot of these comments are old, but these are some of the greatest guys - they played in our town and stayed in our house many times . I still love listening to their music and them being on Letterman was freaking amazing
I'm a professional barber in Rhode Island. The shop is in a community village that is very rich in history. Genuine neighbors creating a town unlike many others. The lead singer John is a humble individual. I was cutting his hair for a year or so before I realized who he was. He still hasn't indulge in much personal matters which is quite common in my profession. I figured out who he was and was indeed taken back by his humility. He still doesn't know that I know who he is. I don't intend to either. No fan boy here just a story I thought would provide insight on how cool he is
Currently my Favorite band! I am astounded that they haven't received more recognition, but at the same time, i kind of enjoy being the only one in my town spreading the name of Deer Tick.
Saw these guys for 5 bucks on Saturday in Portsmouth NH. John McCauley, the lead singer, gashed his hand open towards the end of the set and had to hold his hand with a towel to stop the bleeding while he sang the last song of the night. I'm definitely a fan- gotta respect the man for playing through the pain!
I know the guitarist, Ian. He was one of my brother's best friends. I saw these guys a couple of weeks ago at the John Boyle O'Reilly Club in Springfield, Mass. They were so fucking awesome. They ARE THE BEST.
Im from Bandung City West java Indonesia, they are indeed a good band, the last few years until now they are still fresh to me, I hope I can watch their great show live
I saw them in 2009 in a tiny coffeehouse in Jamestown, NY. There were about 40 people there hootin for them and they put on a SHOW. I was impressed by their passion, as well as the excellent playing, singing, and lyrics. They are going to become widely known.
My ex girlfriend brought me to a deer tick show about 5 years ago in San Diego. I’m not sure where she heard of them but they were new to me. We had a long complicated relationship but I have never loved anyone so deeply on so many different levels. I guess that’s why I stuck around for 17 years. She took her own life last September and it still haunts me every day. When I got a notification that Deer Tick was playing a show in town, I figured I’d stop by UA-cam and watch this video. Great band, great song… but oh so bitterswee
Yeah, it's crazy but I've not listened to them until the last couple days either. Everything going on with this song...instrumentally, lyrically and in the way he delivers it has had me going back to it and other tracks I have never heard, and there's not been a song done live on UA-cam that I didn't play 2 or 3 times on repeat...so far I can't bring myself to stop and soak in the 10 or so I've put in a playlist. Other than what he did about a decade back with Dawes and Delta Spirit's front guys in folk rock super group Middle Brother, just about every song by Deer Tick is new to me. I knew they made music I liked and I kept keeping them in mind for some other time. Thankfully, this is the song that made me take notice...I was excited to hear more, expectation higher than usual. I'm more than impressed, as each listen, more than hoped, adds to the original sound I had hoped for. Anyone who loves Deer Tick should not pass on the collaboration album I mentioned. Both the album and band are called Middle Brother and "Million Dollar Bill", Blue Eyes and "Daydreaming" are great songs to start...but really every single track sounds better than you could expect to get out of most "super-group" made albums that usually are so over managed and under developed. Folk Rock gem imho.
Wow, this is great! I can hear a throwback to sounds of the 60s and 70s, but this is not copying it. I haven't been convinced lately by new bands, but this one did.
@man754 saw this guy at the seminole community center in niceville fl 5 or 6 years ago when he was on tour by himself. i remember thinking he was gonna go big one day. congrats!
Funny thing is...I used to see them out on the little porch outside of the Coffee Exchange on Wickendon Street in Providence having coffee and a smoke. I'm not sure what folks are doing here trying to plow them into the ground? This is a pretty solid piece by Deer Tick on the big, national stage that is Letterman and the endearing thing is that they aren't polished at all. Long live Providence Rhode Island! Keep the line moving boys!
Love the band. First saw them at Newport folk.. Then at Mogegan Sun Casino's Wolf Den. Looking forward to show at the Knickerbocker Cafe, RI with Joe Fletcher and the Wrong Reasons, another very good band. Deertick's lead singer is sarcastic and sassy, but their song writing and performance is solid.
Why is Letterman holding such an enormous CD? Do Deer Tick have their own 'I PAD' sized CD's or something? I can't keep up with all these crazy new technological developments.

They are cool guys. One show I was at, they just stood around in the lobby with us ticket holders, hanging out.

I'm so glad they played Baltimore Blues
You know I've always wondered what would happen if Kurt Kobain, Bob Dylan, Gimli and my substitute math teacher got a band together.
Lol math teacher i love it!!
hahahahahahaha
Hahaha
I assume Chris is the math teacher? Lol

They got a sound that doesnt fit on tv, and I love it. Keepin it original

Im filming Deer Tick along with Middle Brother and Dawes tonight in Chicago at the Metro. Im fuckin stoked!
One of my favorite bands and songs, and still my favorite rendition of it a decade later
How can you dislike this, they fucking killed it

This brought tears to my eyes ♥️🙏🏽
I'm so so sorry. Yet happy for the memories you have with her.
From the Eastside to Galilee, Rhode Island is beaming with pride for DeerTick!!
Great debut!
A great example of an amazing vocalist who wouldn’t make it past the first round of American Idol
I don't know how i only JUST heard of these guys, but I did...and they are fuckin great. Can't wait to listen to more
Still watching??

How could u not like Deertick. that voice is incredible
Such a greatly written song. Period.
"Let's do a ball of coke and then go play Letterman."
- Deer Tick, probably.
Lol John is so fucking high here hahaahha
U mean 8ball
@@no834 lol
Wow that’s sad
The lead singer and the lead guitarist are definitely blitzed here. The whole band is rushing the rhythm too so maybe they’re all coked out lol
This band is simply amazing.
I really like this up tempo version
It was Deer Ticks time!! Great performance and hopefully we will see many more of their performances on TV!!
Wow, this is great! I can hear a throwback to sounds of the 60s and 70s, but this is not copying it. I haven't been convinced lately by new bands, but this one did.
i love this version. lol. they are great live.
I'm from the future. John McCauley will perform with members of Nirvana. It will be awesome!!!
awesome, went to high school with the drummer. He's grown quite a beard since I last saw him 6 years ago
Just saw them last Friday in Providence for free. Great show and they played two encores.
They killed this
saw this this Letterman last night. Totally dig this song
I only wish this song was longer. It's so great, but it deserves a nice spacey guitar section, or something.
Anytime you can make Letterman go damn that was great....thats rather badass
I can't believe these guys aren't megastars
Yay for Deer Tick on TV!
band is awesome. favorite band at the moment along with diamond rugs
saw them last night in Portland ME and they were great!
They killed it here. Nice.
Good Job, You guys were due for that show.
great piece of music!
This song and this performance are brilliant! How can this have just 119,000 views???
HELL YEAH! TV DEBUT! CONGRATS GUYZ!
Drummer doesn't suck......plus he's a very good singer.
clownin around is my favorite DT jam

Can't wait for the free show in Providence on July 8th
My best friends aunt was going out with some dude that knew a guy that was related to the singers cousin.
great job chris! (and the rest of the band)
Haters got to hate.... big dish of jello? They are really good. They are themselves and that is what makes them so good.
This band rocks. Come play a show in Edmonton!
I'm glad to say I'm from Providence
My new favourite band since 10 minutes ago ;)
@TheUsersongs that song IS their older stuff... reworked a little... but that song was on their first album War Elephant...
I saw them open for Dr. Dog @ Emos in Austin. They were kick ass, one of the members (which wasn't in this video) played keys and saxophone.
Robby Crowell
honestly .. the best performance on letterman
check out their first album, Baltimore Blues No. 1
Lol @ guitar player getting into it. I wish I had that courage in front of a crowd, let alone national television!
It's strange that they didn't play a song of the new album at the time
this was on my birthday : )
amazing song. sick lyrics
@man754 saw this guy at the seminole community center in niceville fl 5 or 6 years ago when he was on tour by himself. i remember thinking he was gonna go big one day. congrats!

They'll be back on Letterman on Wednesday! 10/12/11
that is my brother's friend!!!!!!! Ian on the right!!!
The way Letterman says "day-boo"
solid music
Funny thing is...I used to see them out on the little porch outside of the Coffee Exchange on Wickendon Street in Providence having coffee and a smoke. @dhide14 When they told him he'd get to have drumsticks in the band, he thought they were talking about a bucket of fucking chicken.
Awesome
I agree. I kept hearing people compare these guys to the Replacements, and, really, they're not on the same level at all.
Play a show in Florida!
Why is Letterman holding such an enormous CD?
Do Deer Tick have their own 'I PAD' sized CD's or something?
I can't keep up with all these crazy new technological developments.
Nice. Like that stocky drummer feller. Real good.
My feelings exactly.
Deer Tick kicks ass!
Good on ya boys.... keep it up.
one heck of a beard, one heck of a song
@j51162b Pity it doesn't sound like it; that would be something to hear!
They're still very good, though.
the guitar player used to be in titus andronicus and he dances like a god
The lead singer is my friend cousin
real good
This version sounds a lot better than the studio album one
@iluvmusicqwe
Those are not sunglasses.. They're BluBlockers!
I wonder why they didn't play something off of their new album.
baltimore blues #1
@robertwilkins Was that the night they played the Legion? I saw them the night before at Dickens and it was possibly my favorite show of Sled.
What's with all the dislikes?! This band is fucking rad!!
mtv should play this sort of music it could help
that was fucking siiiiick
