  • This is a run along I-24 in Tennessee. It starts at the eastern terminus with I-75 in Chattanooga, following it out of the city. It goes into the brief segment with Georgia before heading Northwest, crossing the Tennessee River and climbing the ascent of the Cumberland Plateau to Monteagle.
This video is part of my June 2020 Atlanta series. A significant partnership with FreewayJim was in effect during the visit, being able to utilize his equipment and ride along during the trip.

Anybody who can survive this road should qualify for NASCAR.

I've always enjoyed seeing I-24 through there. Glad you and Mr. Jim had a good trip, and I enjoyed your perspective on the route. I hope to get my perspective on it next summer after I get my new Toyota Avalon highway cruiser!

Hopefully you get to travel out, sounds like a good car! Looked at the current revision on Toyota’s website assuming yours is equivalent. Toyota makes good vehicles no doubt. If I were to buy a new one from them now, I would gravitate towards the Yaris or Corolla models, all I really need. Thanks for watching!

Some great lush greenery there. Yeah I think my car would struggle a bit on the grade too.

That stretch of road holds a lot of good memories with my family sadly most are gone now. On a better note there is no more beautiful place on Earth than TN, GA and AL.

You got the oddball part right. However, I remember driving from Atlanta to Nashville a couple of times. The drive is pleasant.

I’ll take your word for it, I hope to fill in the gap between Monteagle and Nashville personally whenever I visit again.

Thanks for a nice ride, brought back memories of traveling thru the Monteagle stretch as a child with parents to/from Florida from Chicago area. It was absolutely unforgettable.

That must have been quite a journey from those two places, both I hope to check out in the future. Thanks for watching!

Roadgeek ROYALTY in that car! It seems funny to me that, although I've driven this section of I-24 numerous times, 30 (or so) years have passed, and this is sort of like a whole new experience to me.

Jim is the undisputed king, I am happy enough to be a part of it. I think if you haven’t been around an area for a long time, even if it hasn’t changed much, seeing it today really makes it feel new. I feel that numerous times whenever I visit my homeland of the San Francisco Bay Area.

A couple notes on that stretch that are rather interesting. I've been a passenger on that stretch many times, having been born in Georgia, and growing up in Ohio, we made numerous trips down south to visit family in Chattanooga and south.
When I was a kid I vividly remember the original 1-24 stretch from Monteagle to Chattanooga. It was a nightmare at times. There were 4 lanes in total, two each way. The median was Jersey barriers, and the shoulder was right at the edge of the mountain, and it was a rather precipitous drop, for a good share of the trip down. It was always jammed with traffic. When trucks passed you were scared that you'd go over. I was a kid but that memory is ingrained in my head. The second time I went through was when they were building the Eastbound lanes. At the same time they were building the truck runaway ramps so there were parts where it was even tighter. There were parts where the westbound traffic was basically 12 feet from the rock walls.
Once they had the eastbound lanes opened they were able to put regular shoulders on both sides of both directions. There are homes, farms and all in the median. The reason for the wide median is so they could put the truck runaway ramps. It's also on the other side of that particular part of the mountain. The Westbound lanes are also on the edge of the mountain.

Nice ride through! Hopefully it was a different experience compared to being in California, where grades seem a part of everyday life. Too bad the traffic clogged up going down Missionary Ridge.
Look forward to your other vids!

What really got me was how green it actually was in person, no joke. I felt like I was watching an HDR movie with how vivid the green scenery was. Monteagle was more than satisfactory, I’ll have to drive it myself with a decent car next time. Thanks for watching!

Great video! It brings back pleasant memories. Would you say your video editing software is user-friendly for a beginner?

It has a simplified mode and some helper tips. I thought it was friendly when I first started years ago.

Cool thanks! I have two more videos coming, all on Fridays. I’ll probably get around to working on the next set before the holidays.
Also, if you are interested in Vegas Pro/Movie Studio from Magix, you can do the free trial to see if the software is to your liking before committing money to it. I think the new version (17?) has a dark-theme based timeline, which is really nice to have. If you do buy, go for at least the Platinum version upgrade, since I found the base version too stripped down.
