You kind of contradicted yourself, as you noted, something good did come out of it. In fact you could argue that if Goku hadn't spared frieza, frieza wouldn't have trusted goku enough to sacrifice himself with goku against jiren, and if jiren won he likely makes a more selfish wish that doesn't result in every universe being restored. So that victory at the TOP you mentioned does kind of finally justify goku's sparing of frieza. It wasn't really justified in the original Z though.

Vegeta didn't attack him and start killing people again till the Buu saga, but he did kill lots of audience members as well. Even cell ended up killing trunks and goku as well as king kai and bubbles (and gregory in the anime). So even if frieza did manage to kill goku, it certainly wouldn't be the first time, and as with the other times, wouldn't negate the good his sparing him ended up doing. Frieza was completely powned, lost half his body and an arm, and Goku lost all interest into fighting him by that point, him giving some ki to him was more of a move out of annoyance towards the lizard suddenly asking for help... and he himself acknowledged being too good. Against Moro, there is none of it, Moro was just being beaten down, but Goku looked hellbent into murdering him... yet, the moment he asks sorry, Goku is "Ok pal, now just go back into prison!" ...

He healed Vegeta on Namek because they had a common enemy at the time. And because Goku was salty he never won one-on-one against Vegeta. He healed Cell because he wanted to push Gohan to the limit. He even regretted his decision after Piccolo TED talked him. He healed Moro because Moro can give him a good fight... except that Jiren, Broly, Beerus, Whis, and plethora of gods and angels exist.

Moro's senzu is so fucking frustrating. They should've had it be like "Right as Goku deems him too dangerous to spare and goes to kill him, Moro reveals that he figured out what senzu beans are, what they do, that Krillin had some, and that he managed to steal one from him to use just in case things went pear shaped." We know that Moro's *incredibly* smart (It's this trait that sets him apart from most DB villans) and could probably figure that out given some context clues. They could've built that up with some foreshadowing; have it so that Moro keeps kicking the fighters' asses so hard that Krillin has to burn through his supply real quick in secret and Moro'd be like "I don't get it! They should be dead by now! How can I completely break one of them, be busy breaking another, only to turn right around and see them alive and well as if nothing happened?! Something's keeping them alive, I just know it!" This could've very easily been implemented as a way to shake up the senzu dynamic. But no. Instead we got Goku being a dumb fuck.

Him giving it to Moro is undoubtely the worst... because there is no excuse for it... heck, the chapter right before made it look like Goku was going to be heck savage and utterly vaporize Moro, but instead... and it is even absolute filler in terms of "plot" because it wasn't the senzu that gave Moro the change to win, but Meerus's power from his severed hand! And it's EXCRUCIANTLY painful seeing how Goku not only NEVER learns, but the story itself never present this action as something that may cause some good! Every time the goodies are shocked or scared or believe they're doomed, not ONCE they believe in Goku, so why should we as readers?

This is actually one of the smartest things he's ever done. It's genuinely very long to explain but to try and summarise. Merus' death caused Goku to realise life is worth preserving even if it means putting your life on the line for it. Goku before Merus only saved his home (Earth) and family. He didn't care for the rest of the galaxy. So when Goku promises Merus to protect the galaxy, this also meant helping those who took a wrong path and giving those a second chance. Not the same as Frieza as Goku wanted to let Frieza. Moro was never going to leave jail again, but to at least live is what Goku wanted by taking on Merus' will, he had to reform villains like Moro too. He was not looking to make a rival out of Moro. For the first time Goku saved a strong opponent for the simple fact of wanting them to live. Moro accepted this offer which means Goku could fulfil Merus' will. However Goku isn't stupid. He knows Moro will just heal in prison for 10 million years and break out. He already learnt from Frieza that healing someone brings out the true intentions. So he gave the senzu bean to Moro as a test. Will Moro at full power still obey or will he obey as predicted. Moro failed the test and did the same mistake Frieza did. Goku knew Moro was lying and beat his ass again. Moro was weaker than Goku no matter what and the senzu bean didn't change that fact. So it was a good test to see if Moro was able to change with evidence. Ofc Goku knew Moro wouldn't change but having that evidence, justifies his execution. Rather than killing someone without giving them a fair trial. That's the summarised version, hope I made sense.
Good thing 73 did not use piccolo clone technique, imagine 4, 73 just copying powers, than Moro ate them. Moro could even send 1 after buu to copy his powers, and to take out the threat.
The Cell and Piccolo senzu are the only ones I accept. Especially Cell. He had so much faith in his son that he believed Cell would get his nucleus wrecked
@@sanjuro8815 I think he means the ones that he accepts were necessary. Vegeta getting a senzu wasn't really necessary when Goku had the ability to beat Jeice and Ginyu. It just served to give Vegeta his power back so he could just peace out and leave Goku to fight Ginyu alone. And power levels ended up not mattering in the fight at all since Ginyu just took Goku's body anyway.
Thats ridiculous. Goku is never shown to be smart and is in no way can see the future so he had zero knkwledge that gohan would be stronger. He simply took a chance and everyone almost died because of it. He is a bad father and a dolt for cell and moro

Goku was trying to appeal to Cell's desire for a challenge by basically telling Cell that even with the senzu bean, Gohan would still win. It was the same way Cell took advantage of Vegeta. He built up Gohan so that Cell would want to see what Gohan could do. By building up his son's abilities to Cell, he was trying to make sure Cell wouldn't just go for the kill, which Cell could have done.

Note, these are just moments that Goku used sezu beans on his foes, not other times he's spared or left enemies to live. Such as: Giving Frieza some of his energy to get off Namek and live., Sparing Fat Buu when Goku could have easily defeated him with SSJ3 because he wanted to let Goten and Trunks be the heroes this time Letting his guard down to lecture Frieza only to get nearly killed by a ray gun.
Goku: “Hey Moro!” Moro: “Hmm?” Goku: “Senzu Bean!” Krillin: “WHAT!?” Piccolo: “AGAIN!?” Vegeta: “WHY!?” Goku: “Sorry, I can’t help myself!” But in all seriousness, that was stupid move for the writers to do. Goku was aware of his mistake in the Cell Saga and tried to give one to Gohan instead. I hope they don’t do this when the anime returns and make it different, maybe have Moro steal a Senzu instead and eat it after learning what they can do.
I personally think we still don't know the effects of this senzu bean yet since it happened just last month. After all, I think everybody would have said the same thing about all the other precedents you mentioned in the video right after they appened, nobody would have thought that saving Piccolo would have given us one of the most valuable z fighters or that super sayan 2 would come out of the Cell one. I think we should just wait and see what happens with it, after all in the latest chapter Goku apologized (implying some kind of development maybe) and the GP just called, who knows... Also, Moro as a z fighter would have been quite interesting, tho unlikely, but the senzu could have been the deciding factor here.
What was so aggravating, was that people acted like this was the first time he had done something like this and everybody was so mad. I remember arguing with people that said This was literally the first time he had done this.
One thing to note is that they all seem like bad decisions at the time and it's not until a few arcs later (in exception to cell when you find out it was a good idea within the same arc) when you find out that giving the enemy a senzu was a good call. It's too soon right now to see if it was a bad idea or not. And also if goku never healed moro then they would have never found out about uub and who knows how important that will be in the future.
I mean, why is him giving Moro a senzu bean irredeemable? Moro, Vegeta, Piccolo, Cell, and Frieza were all cold-blooded killers who sought to destroy everything he loved. There is no difference in intentions there. Whenever I talk about this topic, I always hark back to "the ends do not justify the means." It doesn't matter what happened after Goku giving his opponent a senzu bean- it is the intention behind the action that should be judged (at least in my opinion- not sure Goku thinks that way). If anything, him giving senzu beans to already defeated or worn out opponents makes him consistently merciful. He has never killed enemies without giving them a chance (minus when he was a kid and Yakon), so I'm honestly confused as to why this time is "different." His mercy is what makes him different from the vast majority of other saiyans and is the reason the Z Fighters even exist. As you said, him giving enemies senzu beans has always worked out for him. If we assume he's thinking rationally on his past actions, why wouldn't he give Moro a senzu bean? It has literally never failed before and the people we thought were pure evil (like Moro) and incredibly dangerous (again, like Moro) were used as a force for good, ultimately, in saving the multiverse from Zeno's whims.
What makes this different is that Moro was CLEARLY not going to change. Goku should've learned with Frieza that not everyone changes AND he just let Merus. disappearance mean nothing. Not to mention he didn't HAVE to give Moro a senzu bean. It was uncalled for

Goku giving a senzu bean to Moro would work so much better if Goku have defeated Moro in ultra instinct sign but then Moro would have a trump card which lead into Merus sacrificing himself triggering Goku's mastered ultra instinct.
Piccolo was forgiven by goku, and now he is an essential member and served as a father figure for his son while he was dead. He spared vegeta after all the evil things he did and ended up the way he is today. He tried to spare frieza many times and once he failed to redeme himself goku killed him in dbs rof but then he brings him back and frieza is an essential in the Top, a seemingly unredeemedable villain was changed by goku's ways and saved all of creation. Kid buu was pure evil so what did goku do? He wished him back as a good person and it came full circle to wash away this current villain. So thinking of all this, for me it would be weird if goku didn't try to spare moro at least 2 times, it us just the way goku does things because those are the values taught to him. People are just whining without understanding the deeper meaning and true strength of goku, his true greatness as a character. If you think that moro was pure evil and irredeemable then look back at villains like frieza and kid buu and how goku's kindness and values have shaped them to become essential parts of the story to solve the problem. Goku is a cool ass character and people need to appreciate him more.

I honestly still don't think the decision on Cell was wise since this argument is not only just theory, but its also something we are given little clue was ever the actual plan. It still reads like a needlessly stupid sense of loyalty to a "fair fight" in this setting (whatever the hell a "fair fight" means in dragon ball), and a dash of overconfidence in stories where everyone else believes the opponent can destroy the earth. The timing doesn't help either as they always happened in moments of implied weakness from the antagonists. At least the piccolo one could be seen as a pivotal story and character moment for the franchise while still actually having something to lose since Goku wanted to save more than just his opponent but the dragon balls as well. As for the Vegeta one, that can also be read as a "moment of desperation" which is a vibe the entire frieza saga aimed for.
Holy giving Cell a Senzu was debatably the wrong thing to do but it was the best thing for the narrative. Goku directly powering up Cell before he starts torturing Gohan adds a lot of weight to Piccolo’s condemnation and makes his choice to stay dead seem a lot more reasonable.
goku legit shit his pants when he saw Gohans new power while training in the Time Chamber... it makes alot of sense in that point ... but in terms of being a father and taking care of your son.. it made zero sense.
Giving vegeta a bean is the only one that is logical because he did help his son and friend fight and could've help him fight. Piccolo is also acceptable because if he died so would kami. Cell was him just be overconfident in his son, Making a bad decision. And moro was a dying brain cell making its last decision.

Sorry, still disagree with the Cell one. Goku should have been able to read that Cell was just as over confident as the Saiyans or Frieza. Being restored to full energy wouldn’t change that nor in all likelihood how he treated Gohan. Also giving one to Cell before taking one himself is just idiotic. At the very least he could have split it and given Cell half the other half.
I have said before, but I think Goklu's actions make sense if he had a sort of semi-conscious, semi-unconscious slight precognitive understanding that things will turn out right in the end. He says so a few times in the series, plus his few, one-off uses of mental abilities, like reading Krillin's mind, or his fever dreams where he already met the androids before meeting them. No-one ever does that beside shim in the series when reaching this new heights of power. Vegeta has a dream when out, but only of Trunks and Goku surpassing him and not of any events to come. I wish Toriyama would have explored this more. But, regardless, if he has this real mental connection of what will happen, even if only slightly, it's probably why he's so confident in doing this actions. Even sparing villains like Vegeta, who he knows can come back and kill all he loves. That being said, it doesn't excuse what's going on here. This is more crappy Super arcs, with a cheap copy of cool things regurgitated from the past and making Goku a complete idiot again.
I disagree with most of these because at the time they were evil with no sign of changing. The only one that can be excused is the Vegeta one, you can say it’s payment for helping Krillin and Gohan.

Moro's senzu is so fucking frustrating. They should've had it be like "Right as Goku deems him too dangerous to spare and goes to kill him, Moro reveals that he figured out what senzu beans are, what they do, that Krillin had some, and that he managed to steal one from him to use just in case things went pear shaped." We know that Moro's *incredibly* smart (It's this trait that sets him apart from most DB villans) and could probably figure that out given some context clues. They could've built that up with some foreshadowing; have it so that Moro keeps kicking the fighters' asses so hard that Krillin has to burn through his supply real quick in secret and Moro'd be like "I don't get it! They should be dead by now! How can I completely break one of them, be busy breaking another, only to turn right around and see them alive and well as if nothing happened?! Something's keeping them alive, I just know it!" This could've very easily been implemented as a way to shake up the senzu dynamic.
But no. Instead we got Goku being a dumb fuck.

Him giving it to Moro is undoubtely the worst... because there is no excuse for it... heck, the chapter right before made it look like Goku was going to be heck savage and utterly vaporize Moro, but instead... and it is even absolute filler in terms of "plot" because it wasn't the senzu that gave Moro the change to win, but Meerus's power from his severed hand!
And it's EXCRUCIANTLY painful seeing how Goku not only NEVER learns, but the story itself never present this action as something that may cause some good! Every time the goodies are shocked or scared or believe they're doomed, not ONCE they believe in Goku, so why should we as readers?

This is actually one of the smartest things he's ever done.
It's genuinely very long to explain but to try and summarise.
Merus' death caused Goku to realise life is worth preserving even if it means putting your life on the line for it. Goku before Merus only saved his home (Earth) and family. He didn't care for the rest of the galaxy. So when Goku promises Merus to protect the galaxy, this also meant helping those who took a wrong path and giving those a second chance. Not the same as Frieza as Goku wanted to let Frieza. Moro was never going to leave jail again, but to at least live is what Goku wanted by taking on Merus' will, he had to reform villains like Moro too. He was not looking to make a rival out of Moro. For the first time Goku saved a strong opponent for the simple fact of wanting them to live. Moro accepted this offer which means Goku could fulfil Merus' will. However Goku isn't stupid. He knows Moro will just heal in prison for 10 million years and break out. He already learnt from Frieza that healing someone brings out the true intentions. So he gave the senzu bean to Moro as a test. Will Moro at full power still obey or will he obey as predicted. Moro failed the test and did the same mistake Frieza did. Goku knew Moro was lying and beat his ass again. Moro was weaker than Goku no matter what and the senzu bean didn't change that fact. So it was a good test to see if Moro was able to change with evidence. Ofc Goku knew Moro wouldn't change but having that evidence, justifies his execution. Rather than killing someone without giving them a fair trial.

@@sanjuro8815 I think he means the ones that he accepts were necessary. Vegeta getting a senzu wasn't really necessary when Goku had the ability to beat Jeice and Ginyu. It just served to give Vegeta his power back so he could just peace out and leave Goku to fight Ginyu alone. And power levels ended up not mattering in the fight at all since Ginyu just took Goku's body anyway.

Goku was trying to appeal to Cell's desire for a challenge by basically telling Cell that even with the senzu bean, Gohan would still win. It was the same way Cell took advantage of Vegeta. He built up Gohan so that Cell would want to see what Gohan could do. By building up his son's abilities to Cell, he was trying to make sure Cell wouldn't just go for the kill, which Cell could have done.

Letting his guard down to lecture Frieza only to get nearly killed by a ray gun.

I personally think we still don't know the effects of this senzu bean yet since it happened just last month. After all, I think everybody would have said the same thing about all the other precedents you mentioned in the video right after they appened, nobody would have thought that saving Piccolo would have given us one of the most valuable z fighters or that super sayan 2 would come out of the Cell one.
I think we should just wait and see what happens with it, after all in the latest chapter Goku apologized (implying some kind of development maybe) and the GP just called, who knows...
Also, Moro as a z fighter would have been quite interesting, tho unlikely, but the senzu could have been the deciding factor here.
What was so aggravating, was that people acted like this was the first time he had done something like this and everybody was so mad. I remember arguing with people that said This was literally the first time he had done this.
In the manga he gives Piccolo the bean in 1988, not 1989. You even get to see Vegeta in the manga in 1988.

One thing to note is that they all seem like bad decisions at the time and it's not until a few arcs later (in exception to cell when you find out it was a good idea within the same arc) when you find out that giving the enemy a senzu was a good call. It's too soon right now to see if it was a bad idea or not. And also if goku never healed moro then they would have never found out about uub and who knows how important that will be in the future.

I mean, why is him giving Moro a senzu bean irredeemable? Moro, Vegeta, Piccolo, Cell, and Frieza were all cold-blooded killers who sought to destroy everything he loved. There is no difference in intentions there. Whenever I talk about this topic, I always hark back to "the ends do not justify the means." It doesn't matter what happened after Goku giving his opponent a senzu bean- it is the intention behind the action that should be judged (at least in my opinion- not sure Goku thinks that way). If anything, him giving senzu beans to already defeated or worn out opponents makes him consistently merciful. He has never killed enemies without giving them a chance (minus when he was a kid and Yakon), so I'm honestly confused as to why this time is "different." His mercy is what makes him different from the vast majority of other saiyans and is the reason the Z Fighters even exist.
As you said, him giving enemies senzu beans has always worked out for him. If we assume he's thinking rationally on his past actions, why wouldn't he give Moro a senzu bean? It has literally never failed before and the people we thought were pure evil (like Moro) and incredibly dangerous (again, like Moro) were used as a force for good, ultimately, in saving the multiverse from Zeno's whims.
What makes this different is that Moro was CLEARLY not going to change. Goku should've learned with Frieza that not everyone changes AND he just let Merus. disappearance mean nothing. Not to mention he didn't HAVE to give Moro a senzu bean. It was uncalled for

So thinking of all this, for me it would be weird if goku didn't try to spare moro at least 2 times, it us just the way goku does things because those are the values taught to him.

I honestly still don't think the decision on Cell was wise since this argument is not only just theory, but its also something we are given little clue was ever the actual plan. It still reads like a needlessly stupid sense of loyalty to a "fair fight" in this setting (whatever the hell a "fair fight" means in dragon ball), and a dash of overconfidence in stories where everyone else believes the opponent can destroy the earth. The timing doesn't help either as they always happened in moments of implied weakness from the antagonists. At least the piccolo one could be seen as a pivotal story and character moment for the franchise while still actually having something to lose since Goku wanted to save more than just his opponent but the dragon balls as well. As for the Vegeta one, that can also be read as a "moment of desperation" which is a vibe the entire frieza saga aimed for.
Holy giving Cell a Senzu was debatably the wrong thing to do but it was the best thing for the narrative. Goku directly powering up Cell before he starts torturing Gohan adds a lot of weight to Piccolo’s condemnation and makes his choice to stay dead seem a lot more reasonable.

Sorry, still disagree with the Cell one. Goku should have been able to read that Cell was just as over confident as the Saiyans or Frieza. Being restored to full energy wouldn’t change that nor in all likelihood how he treated Gohan.
Also giving one to Cell before taking one himself is just idiotic. At the very least he could have split it and given Cell half the other half.
I have said before, but I think Goklu's actions make sense if he had a sort of semi-conscious, semi-unconscious slight precognitive understanding that things will turn out right in the end. He says so a few times in the series, plus his few, one-off uses of mental abilities, like reading Krillin's mind, or his fever dreams where he already met the androids before meeting them. No-one ever does that beside shim in the series when reaching this new heights of power. Vegeta has a dream when out, but only of Trunks and Goku surpassing him and not of any events to come. I wish Toriyama would have explored this more. But, regardless, if he has this real mental connection of what will happen, even if only slightly, it's probably why he's so confident in doing this actions. Even sparing villains like Vegeta, who he knows can come back and kill all he loves.
That being said, it doesn't excuse what's going on here. This is more crappy Super arcs, with a cheap copy of cool things regurgitated from the past and making Goku a complete idiot again.
