YouTube Demonetized My Channel for Invalid Traffic

- UPDATE: I want to thank everyone who contributed to my channel to help with impact the invalid traffic issue I had been dealing with the past two months. After chatting with creator support for a sixth time, a supervisor informed me that while there is invalid traffic on my channel, my revenue is no longer being impacted. This is contradictory to what I was told all other times I contacted support but needless to say is great news. I will make a video update tomorrow or Wednesday but plan to keep the original video up to bring awareness about this issue with the hope that UA-cam looks further into it so other content creators are not unfairly punished.
About two months ago, UA-cam partially demonetized my channel for invalid traffic. Invalid traffic refers to an influx of views on a channel in a fraudulent manner such as a creator watching their own videos on a loop or paying a company to increase views. Despite not doing anything malicious, UA-cam has not offered a solution to the invalid traffic I am not causing. Today, my ad revenue is down about 50% which will cripple my channel long term. Your support is needed for me to continue to post videos on a weekly basis.

Ycombinator is probably just links from hackernews (assuming the screenshot you showed while mentioning sites you didn't recognize, was one of those sites). It's basically a more tech-centric/nerdy version of reddit as far as I understand it. I don't think that would get flagged, and it's certainly a normal site that Alphabet/Google/UA-cam is aware of.
I donated to your channel. I hope it helps some.
All, I purchased his antenna review and recommendations then tipped him $20 a few months later as it all worked great. Fuk UA-cam, they are screwing you. If they detect invalid traffic they can block it, but they don't.
Rumble cross post?
FYI - UA-cam / Google has been doing this to a lot of people. They are just making up an excuse NOT to pay them the money they are bringing in.
They did this to me with google ads in 2008 - Stole over $3000 from me
I think you nailed it. At the end of the day, Google is another greedy corporation looking for money at all costs... even those they depend on... the content creator.
Yes, now that is the case.
One hundred percent.
Sounds about right.
Alphabet needs to be broken up, it's a monopoly.
Alphabet is such a mysterious company - what exactly do they do besides Google?
Yes, they do
No they don't there is other streaming platforms out there
I concur! And our government is complicit in their becoming one!
@@ebinrock Alphabet owns the Android operating system, Chrome OS, Chromebooks, etc. Yes Alphabet enabled me to move away from Microsoft Windows & go to Chromebook & Android Phones & Android Tablets.
YT is so greedy. They never do this to content farmers. They do this to content creators.
I wonder who the content farmers are!
@AnotherGlenn They are chanels produced in foreign countrires and are voiced over with the same content. Ex: 5 minute crafts has a lot of channel, same content.
I've never heard the term "content farmer" before but gather it is channels that use content creator's videos to gain views of their own. The most popular version of this would probably be reaction videos. I've noticed I rarely see the original video, I see mostly reaction videos. Completely annoying. I might try to migrate away from UA-cam.
@@jadamwhitmanwe just talking about the fact that there are so many reaction videos. It seems the thing to do. We have to go searching for the original video, but the reaction of that same video just pops up 🤔 very annoying 😏
UA-cam will spam 20-30 scam ads per video without an ad blocker!
Your channel is mostly about helping people shut off cable, satellite and other massively overpriced media services. I wouldn't be surprised if there is some collusion going on between UA-cam and those companies... trying to financially cripple folks like you. But you've helped a lot of people, including myself, with great info over the years. I appreciate what you do.
I agree with you thoroughly
UA-cam IS a content provider, a streaming provider, a FAST service. It's their thin ice you have walked onto!
@@mcass777 This is true. I didn't even think about UA-cam TV.
I thought of the exact same thing.. YT probably thinks that he is competing against their own service YT premium
I don't blame you for being so angry. YT sucks.
Take the lack of transparency as either incompetence or a tacit admission of guilt (greed).
I agree they suck royally one of the worst corp in America up there next to Bank of America and AT&T
I know the problem is more widespread than just cord cutting channels, but what immediately popped into my head was they are trying to discourage cord cutting since it is in direct competition with UA-cam TV. The fact that they won't tell people what is triggering the issue is pure BS IMHO.
That's a valid point, I think. Many of the channels that I watch that have been complaining about this are channels that do some sort of "helping people out" content.
I thought the same thing. What happened to just making UA-cam TV a quality product that people will choose over OTA? Why the thumb on the scale, YT?
Absolutely.
It's easy to make this assessment but remember, they lead AI development, which we all know is faulty. AI is most likely running the entire system with content creators. And, since humans have been eliminated from the actual decision making process, no one really knows what's happening with his channel and just pass out "canned" suggestions to questions.
Their AI system probably has an acceptable margin of error. No one will be concerned until it effects MANY creators or the companies bottom line. When the limit get's too great, they will put get some AI specialists on the problem to get the error rate down further. I believe this is happening because AI is in control, not actual humans.
UA-cam is evil. Alternative platforms are the way to go now.
Who else here thinks that yt is intentionally creating this 'invalid traffic' situation on creators' videos algorithmically in order to boost their own pockets and to try to force creators to buck up or get off?
UA-cam is not doing it on purpose. The whole back end at UA-cam is messed up to the point of no repair. This includes ad revenue, the stats and the search engine.
Google/UA-cam should be honest and admit it to everyone.
Unfortunately, you're dealing with a corporation that has no conscience, coupled with no means of customer service. Even commercial voice customers can't get assistance. When things work, they're good. When they malfunction, you're on your own.
That's certainly possible. The corporation is now chasing pennies and nickels, despite being profitable.
... and sometimes even when things work great, they are canceled or crippled.
Unfortunately, if you don't produce the "right" type of content YT will eventually do this to these very hard working creators.
The revenue model isn't too linear anyhow. "Fred goes grocery shopping" got more views than this one. They don't both bring the same benefit!
You just defined traditional corporate america's operations. About almost all of them.
yeah, youtube is like Fakebook. Likes to tell you you're doing something wrong when in fact you probably didn't do anything wrong and the fact that they can't tell you what caused it. Much love and respect brother
Owned by our enemy
UA-cam is run by idiots that don’t explain about invalid traffic, my friend made a video about a video game Captain Toad, and then there was a bunch of shroom comments that were irrelevant to Captain Toad, and got demonized for that video, it’s not his own fault! Those shroom spammers shouldn’t be posting, and the content creator shouldn’t be punished!
Anybody who informs the public and doesn't work for the elite is getting their money turned off. It's horrible. We see it. Yet nobody stands up. Thank you SO much for your service. We appreciate you.
Because you’re against the big guys . You’re about saving us lineups and running free tv . The big guys don’t get our money . UA-cam is tied in with them or shall I say google
It wouldn't surprise me. That or my channel is being sabotaged.
@@AntennaMan I follow many types of UA-cam channels from motorcycles and motorcycle
Mechanics to law equipment mechanics to tech videos to yours . I’ve seen at least 1-2 of each genre say that have been shadow banned in one for or another in their UA-cam life .
@@AntennaManI could see a mainstream media company paying a bot site to sabotage your content. It would be pennies to them. I'm a pretty big conspiracy theorist and a bit of a tinfoil hat person though lol. You make honest content with fair reviews. I hope you can find a solution.
@@AntennaManthat’s what I was going to say. You’re making enemies. “They” really are out to thwart you. The less you speak the truth, the more it benefits them. And I’m not one for conspiracy theories either.
@@meffffy
Why are you still using tinfoil? Aluminum foil is just so much better. And a lot cheaper too.
Imagine that, a billion dollar company making more money for themselves by not paying the content creators fairly. I feel for you, their success is dependent on others to create something they do not have.
Trillion dollar company
This is unacceptable and I am convinced that it is Google doing so intentionally to reduce UA-cam payments to creators.
Creators who speak their mind get buried. Mindless boot lickers and influencers get pushed to the top. U weel eet z bugz.
YT has been inserting more advertisements, for longer times while squeezing dollars out of creators like yourself by underhanded means. YT needs some competition to keep them in line.
Ads before THIS video were I was forced to watch for 30sec instead of skip after a few seconds.. I say this is NOT a coincidence, but a cruel irony perpetuated by Google/ yt as a FU to @antennaman for calling them on the bs!
Tyler, I was totally demonetized for 10 months for reuse, which I never did. I feel your pain, it's ridiculous. Your rant was great. I eventually just bit the bullet and deleted nearly all my content and started over again. I felt sick for months, but there is not much that can be done. Hang in there.
I can't believe you were completely demonetized! Glad you figured it out even if it took a while. I'm hoping that the issue can be solved without me having to create a whole new channel.
I was demonetized for 5 years for "reused content" which I did and in 2019 they got rid of my monetization. Even though it was TOTALLY FINE from 2014-2019. I lost a friend, due to complications in our friendship, we were not on the same page. Then, My grandparents passed away 3 /12 years apart. Covid happened and It was the HARDEST TIME OF MY LIFE!!! how did I get it back after 5 years? I made more original videos, got very busy hanging out with my dad and messing around with Radio transmitters, that I had no time to work on videos. I didn't post for 3 months, I reapplied, hoping in vain that my monetization would be back. And the AFTER 5-6 LONG YEARS, I FINALLY GOT MY MONETIZATION BACK!!! I was SO happy that day.
It’s probably VPN traffic. Advertisers can pay for location based ads and all those VPN services that UA-camrs advertise are circumventing that location based advertising.
Ah, I hadn't thought of that.
COME ON UA-cam!!
Get it together and help out!!
We support you!
I know you do, and I greatly appreciate it.
YT is greedy AF. Wish we had options
I'm looking into other platforms.
We do have options; unfortunately, (1) they don't have the marketing muscle to get the kind of viewers UA-cam has; (2) UA-cam is pre-installed on every phone, be it iPhone or Android, and phones are pretty much the standard way people (especially the all-important 18-25 crowd) are viewing videos - on the other hand, alternatives are not on every platform, especially on smart TV's and set-top streaming devices like Roku - hey, call me old school, but I still prefer watching any kind of video content on an actual TV! And (3) UA-cam, I think, still has the most user-friendly playback interface (showing you thumbnails as you scrub through the video and remembering where you left off on a video, etc.), and competitors' interfaces are still not user-friendly in a lot of respects.
Odysee?
We do have an option; don’t watch!
The DuckDuckGo people tell us to watch Vevo to avoid the tracking software and cookies.
:( We love your channel. So sick of these sites abusing creators.
You're a favorite UA-camr, and I hate that you have to deal with the worst, most underhanded treatment that UA-cam is capable of towards its creators. Might be time to consider one of the UA-cam alternatives.
Sorry to hear that. You are a hero and have a great channel! Have never had anything other than OTA. Served on on our local TV board (GCMETREC) founded exclusively for providing OTA here in our western Colorado town. Sadly, board has been hijacked by members that want to do away with OTA. I'm 72 now, rescued a 1940s RCA set from my grandparents basement in 1961. Had that in my bedroom for years!. Good luck.
You sound like my dad...If Katrina had not hit, he would have still had all those black-and-white TV's (whether they worked or not) and radios still in the house!
@@ebinrock Sounds like a great guy! Lots of radios here, too. Love listening to AM long distance at night. Also CB license early 1970s, GMRS and Amateur (Ham) licensed. Built my first crystal radio set in 1958. Thanks for sharing!

It’s a sobering reminder about how they can rip the rug out from underneath and have no accountability to even explain why. Keep the faith @antennaman, you do great work!
Even if you decide to stay with UA-cam , consider mirroring your content to other platforms and getting your own website.
Best wishes and God bless!
they know where the invalid traffic is coming from as its a known fact that they can follow the source of the views

Antenna Man of all people???
Until people start suing, this kind of thing will not go away.
UA-cam profits from streaming TV networks. Your videos encourage people to get TV from Antenna directly impacting UA-cam’s profits.
Antenna Man, You're so talented! I had to hit the like button!
I am so sorry that you are going through this… I hope it gets resolved soon!
Me too. Thanks for watching.
Thanks! Maybe they will notice
Cable companies are probably behind this.
They're mad about your message.
Follow the money.
And, dish companies as well.
I doubt it. Cable companies focus is on high speed internet services. They see the writing on the wall for cable TV & don't care. That said, perhaps broadcasters would be concerned as people ditch cable TV, but I don't think they are concerned about Tylers channel with so few subscribers.
YT is a joke
YT from late 2005-2014 is better
@@RaysGamingChannel2003 And, when did the CIA gets its backdoor controls into Google (aka YT)?
Its always been a joke especially with its censorship in the comment sections
How does being a communist function...huh...got a taste.
UA-cam has definitely gone downhill recently. Outside of the issue I'm dealing with, I see that creators have had to severely sensor themselves to not say very basic PG words like kill or pornography.
My guess is they want to cut costs to appease the shareholders and are just giving bs reasons.
Hope you get this resolved. Tyler helped me find a great antenna for my home.
I am so sorry about this, your channel is so good, please keep up the good work and I hope you can get resolution on this matter.
Unfortunately Alphabet doesn't care about content creators unless they are in the top 15%. I can't do patreon but I did paypal you a donation sir. Good luck!
Perfectly said. 👍
I'm sorry about this, man.
I would consider alternative revenue streams. Get channel sponsors, and upload to Rumble, Twitter and Instagram, and try build a strong community over there as well. This is exactly why relying only on one revenue stream is a bad idea, as it can be gone tomorrow.
I do have other sources of revenue but the channel was a decent chunk, and cutting it by 50% will really impact it. For example, I may spend $100 on an antenna with the hope that ads from the video bring in $150. With the 50% cut, it's no longer feasible.
Create your own line of antennas and pitch them on QVC. Aren't they right down the road from you in PA?
@@AntennaMan I hear you, man. Again, I'm sorry. But UA-cam is not a secure income. If they don't feel like they need us anymore, we're gone. UA-cam is trying to become the next cable TV. So guys like you and Michael telling people to cut the cord, hurts their bottom line. I believe that might be the real reason behind this. So again, if I was you, I'd work on building a solid following on all these other platforms.
Best wishes and good luck to resolving what must be a very frustrating issue! I love your channel.
The video with the interview with the sation owner in Oregon was a good one. UA-cam either give this man a clear explanation of what exactly is going on and how to fix it, or correct his channel status!!
I'll be reposting that video next week. I didn't want to take it down in the first place but when I saw a chunk of views originating from a foreign country, I had no choice.
@@AntennaMan when you repost put it through and Editor and change it a bit, and change the title and thumbnail.
IF YT is just doing this to cut down on what they HAVE to pay out... Sounds like a grounds for a class action lawsuit. Might speak with some attorneys.
Sorry you’re going through this, I’ve been watching you for years. I hope you get it figured out. I’m rooting for you. Also thanks for all your videos and answering questions.
Love your stuff Ant. It really sucks that this is happening to you of all people. Hopefully yt straightens this out soon.
"Here's how to not have to subscribe to UA-camTV" is basically how they view OTA content. Hosting your videos is in direct conflict with a major revenue source for them.
You're a good man. I watch you videos all the time.
Absolutely ridiculous. I saw Lon post your video on X detailing this after I followed his own issues too. Hope you can get it resolved soon.
Hi Tyler, I’m sorry this is happening to you and your channel. You’ve been a great advocate for over the air television -wishing you the best.
Watching your own videos on a 300k sub channel should have no statistical impact on traffic count. I only have about 1.7K subs and watch my own videos to make sure they look OK and I didn't make editing mistakes or whatever and there's no real difference statistically. So something else is going on. Sorry to hear about this antenna man. YT needs a good whack with an antenna.
Sounds like the creators need to get together and possibly make a legal case out of this! This angers me for everyone this is happening to! 😡

Seriously, you'd think a large website like UA-cam would have an actual support team, but nope, they just have shitty bots that just give you unhelpful responses. I've seen people deal with it on Twitch (like DankPods and his Drum Streams), and I've dealt with it on Discord, hell Discord's probably the worst because their account recovery team got mostly laid off.
The tech industry right now is just horrible, and too much focus is being placed on maximizing profits rather than actually helping people, and yes, Google is a monopoly.

I was debating between a UA-cam channel or substack. I think I'm going to substack! This is ridiculous!

Ironically this gave me a flashback to 2012 when I made 4 pennies on a video to have them take the pennies away because of the same reason. Sad days that 12 years later SSDD.

I hope you get this figured out. Your videos have helped me and I'm sure a lot of other as well.
Sadly, we need Congress to pass a law (sigh). UA-cam is notorious for NOT telling viewers which comment on which video got deleted for violation of the rules. They penalize channels (like this one) without specifically telling the creators where the problems are.
UA-cam is a source of full time income for millions of people. We really need to have a law passed forcing transparency because obviously, UA-cam doesn’t have the desire to do it without being told to.
