In regards to the Brazil and Belgium games.
there were *thriteen* injuries in those games.
Pope, Shaw, White, Saka, Kane, Palmer, TAA, Reece James, Walker, Maguire, Stones, Ward-Prowse and Grealish.
To put that in perspective, that is Englands Entire first team defense, half it's reserve defense, half its main attack, its primary striker and most of its reserve midfield.
there were at least 6 debuts and the only first team players that featured were bellingham, Rice and Foden.
Declan Rice had the captains armband because the next 4 in the line of succession were all out injured.
These games were not even played with a B team, it was a B/C team and Belgium STILL did not win. Not to mention both of their goals came from mistakes England made - Not Belgium being the better team.
I would also like to point out,
France lost to Germany and conceeded in 7 seconds - Nobody says a word
Portugul lost to Slovinia - Nobody says a word
Spain lose to colombia - Nobody says a word
But if england DRAW with Belgium, then they get utterly crucified.

England’s stats against Brazil and Belgium were a real eye opener. I remember when England used to lose to these teams the post game analysis was always predominantly about England’s inability to keep the ball. No one can say that anymore.

This is the weird oversight I keep seeing. England's defence has been the only real constant in the last couple of tournaments, conceding 6 goals in 12 games in total. Pickford was also a literal match winning keeper in the 2018 world cup

I'm very much hoping that England wins the tournament because logically it's the best moment by far. No key players gone from the team, so there's so much experience gained. They've tasted defeat so they're probably as motivated as never before, and the key thing - this season's individual performances. So much quality from Kane, Bellingham, Saka, Foden, Palmer, Rice. Granted, there may still be life for this team in '26 (Kane and Maguire will be 33, probably the oldest players in the squad, possibly past their prime though), but it is THE moment to win. I'm confident they can maintain the pressure but I have a gut feeling that somehow they won't. I hope it's wrong, but something in my body or my mind tells me that it's gonna be a triumph for Germany. We'll see this summer

I like this team. Trent has to play. You need to pick Bellingham and Foden in middle. And by playing a three man defence with a centre back who can play on the left you partially solve the left back problem. Sure this team is weak on the left, but is outstanding in every other position. They just need to score more goals than they concede. This team could do it.

@@techopialimited1453 it’s a shame Southgate would never try anything so bold but defensively I don’t think it’s too compromised. I see Trent as a deep lying playmaker who can drop into right back when needed but he’s there to recieve the ball and spring attacks with plenty of options ahead of him to aim at. Saka and Gordon would both work hard on the flanks to support. And it provides the double pivot without sacrificing the creativity where we are strongest with Foden and Bellingham both given freedom to play. If it clicks, I don’t think any defence could cope!

I’d disagree with that. Southgate was part of the international youth set up before becoming manager. He helped create a pathway for players to get into the senior squad if they were in the youth squads.
Before that the senior squad was picked mostly by which team you played for, and players from one team would stick together (ex players have confirmed this in interviews).
I do agree that he knows how to deal with the media, but then again that’s part of the job too. Where i think he lacks is confident decision making on the pitch in crunch games. His record against the top 10 in the world speaks for itself.

Southgate was a defender, his style of play is posession and defense which makes no sense when England have one of the best attacks in the world right now. Thats why he is critisised because he does not utilise what he has. He focuses of defense with a team that could pummel most others. The England defense is not as solid as it could be so the team should be focusing on relentless pushes and counters into the attacking third. Instead he reverts to form and will pass back from the attacking third all the way back to the keeper and try to play it out like that over and over again.
Thats why he is critsised. I will admit he HAS done a good job, but with the amount of attacking power on that team, he should be taking it one step further - he doesn't.

Everyone is saying Bellingham and foden must start, I beg to differ. High press is the way to go as premier league top teams are all familiar with. First press will be Keane (watkins even better but that will never happen), Jude/Bellingham will be tight to opp dm and fast wingers are required so Saka and Gordon. Rice will press their no 10 to stop him turning with the ball and the key for high press success will be this next guy, which should be mainoo. This is the best way to defend and relieve pressure for the defense, especially left back, which obviously will be targeted by opponents. This will work against most teams because of individual supremacy. France will be the biggest challenge, make sure grizzman is manmark, (preferably mainoo, ask KDB he knows)

  • @FootyFan-k3l
    @FootyFan-k3l 5 місяців тому

You cannot put Foden on the left when there is no left back... He will have to hold width and won't be able to invert because there isn't a left back that can be trusted to get to the attacking areas. But him and Walker have worked off the right for City a lot this year in a way that allows him to invert. Either trust Bellingham to be a box to box 8 (like he has been for most of his career) or put Foden on the right and move Saka. If the PL player of the year, who won that award for his work in the pockets this season, is shoved on a touchline and then judged because he isn't producing then England will go another 4 years without winning the Euros, and they will deserve it.

I do believe it's now or never for Southgate, he has had plenty of chances and did not deliver. No excuses, he has to deliver. Yes, the talent is immense, Foden and Bellingham with huge seasons, but still too young IMO, maybe Foden to step up but its' still a big ask, while there are some chockers in the team like Kane and Saka so from where the winning mentality's gonna come? Pickford is prone to mistakes, the CB's aren't good enough and they will be tested with defensive mentality of Southgate, so big ask for me it's who's gonna deliver in key games, in the quarters, semis when they will get teams of their level? I do hope Lady Luck will turn on the English fans as they were competitive recently but it's just small details that make the difference, but the mentality is just not there, and they will need a better coach to work on their mindset not this politically correct and let's feel good limited manager, you need a Mourinho type to make you hungry and fight for your life because they do have one of the most talented squads in the history, not sure if it;s the best, i mean I look at France and they have two teams and the right manager and mindset.

That back injury might knock him out of the tournement. He has a month to heal, maybe a little more if England can get past the group stage without him.
The big issue is that without him England has no really solid striker. Nobody anywhere near Kanes level except Greenwood who has blown his chance already. Watkins is above average at a push, Toney is unproven in competition, Sterling is past his prime and Rashford is really *not* on form.
    Who else is there?
Without the captain, England might be in trouble before it even begins. Not to mention Luke Shaw, Englands only solid left back, is also likely to miss the Euros, in addition to Ben White who is one of Englands best defenders who is refusing to play for England for unknown reasons.
England defense has taken a battering before it's even kicked off and if there is one place England are lacking it is the defense. All that plus the Captian might be out for the bulk of it as well.
Gotta love the Luck england have at tournements...

England have failed to qualify five times, the exact same number as Italy and Spain, France have failed six times and Portugal eight. Italy won on penalties and a replay. Portugal won in the 109th minute, also relied on extra time to progress through the tournament. France won the 2000 final in the 103rd minute. The difference is minuscule, and when they do win it’s either extra time or penalties apart from dominant Spanish side that won back to back even though they had penalties in the semis against Portugal.

Whenever u see him play he offers very low chance creation and usually has strengths in defensive duties and goal scoring when it comes to positioning, all things a box to box does. Even then if bellinghams best position is the 10, which its not because he doesn’t have the qualities of a 10, then you’d have the bench him for the player thats performing better than him in that position which is Foden. You could say his goals tally is what shows it but all that shows is that he’s a box crasher for real madrid. Meaning he makes late runs into the box and scores goals from a position in the 6 yrd box. This action is reminiscent to Box to box midfielders that do this such as gerrard and lampard. Basically saying that if u play bellingham in his actual best position the 8 u still get the goals, thats the player real madrid bought and its not like hes functioning as a 10 where hes a creative machine hes just there to score goals and hold up play a lot like a centre forward. Midfield threes gotta be Rice and bellingham in a double pivot (where bellingham can be the best version of himself and still bag goals thru box crashing) and foden at the 10 (where he can be in his best position assisting and scoring around his striker).
