5:19 About Luffy's outfit : in the manga he wears the same one until Enies Lobby. And the fun fact here : all outfits worn by the live action Luffy in this trailer are the real life adaptations of those drawn by Oda on the color spreads. So in a weird way this is canon.
Let's not forget that Buggy's introduction in the manga is him effectively force-choking a cremate; the sinister clown is how he was portrayed before the fighting started and the goofiness came out
@@Kono_D._Oda many seem to forget the fact that across many notorious figures Luffy faced, criminal masterminds, Top jail warden in the world, someone with God complex and actually having the ability and capabilities of talking the talk and walking the walk, admirals, someone's entire niche is cutting things with strings and also a criminal mastermind, Mihawk, giants, the strongest creatures in the entire world, and none of them, none, managed to damage the strawhat, only the yonko himself Buggy did, it's actually insane we had two yonkos fight so early on in the series.
Zero being against saying attack names is a funny way of getting around the fact that he literally can't say his names, since he has a sword in his mouth. I doubt the show will go the same route of 'he speaks from the heart' so this is a funny compromise. They could have Sanji show up and do a named attack, and Luffy glances at Zoro like "See?" and Zoro doubles down on not doing it, BECAUSE Sanji does it, thus beginning their rivalry.
I feel like people forget how terrifying Buggy was when he was introduced. There are some amazingly threatening panels in the manga during Orange Town.
FR When we first see him he looks like he's forced choking someone and giving Vader vibes like cmon Buggy was a menace when he was first introduced bro
@@whitecat1441 sure that’s how the community views him now. Look back at Buggy in his introduction in chapter 9. He is draped in shadow, revealed sitting on the throne and he murders someone on his crew for making fun of his nose. Sure that’s comedic but also ruthless and scary.
I feel like 80% sure that the guy Zoro is fighting is the original Mr. 7 from Baroque Works. It will probably be shown in a flashback after Luffy learns who Zoro is before recruiting him or something.
"Zeff built the Baratie with the idea that starving pirates could find it in the middle of the ocean. So in the One Piece Live Action, they added a lighthouse at the top of it. Love the attention to detail " Someone said this on Twitter :)
I saw Murphy's stream reacting to the trailer, and when she was talking about Buggy, someone in chat said "Imagine this Buggy laughing after he gets decapitated by Zoro". And I was like "OH MY GOD, YES!" Buggy is going to steal the show. That's the feeling I got from the trailer.
The best thing is that when he does hit his goofball stage, they can just tweak the make up a little to make him appear a bit more approachable. Bang, easy as!
@@7thlittleleopard7 I don't think they need to tweak the make up. The context is what's going to do the job. He can go from creepy to "Did you just say I have a red nose?!" in a funny way in 1 second.
The way Nami speaks in the trailer makes her seem cold, but Nami pre-Arlong Park WAS a little cold, so I think that dialogue is going to be before Arlong Park.
I hope so too. This is the only thing I wasn't sure about in the trailer. I really hope they don't make a cold and masculine "strong woman" out of her. She's strong but feminine. And not strong as in "physically strong" and "brave", but in a similar way to Usopp with overcoming her fear and weakness. It's an important balance for the crew. So please please don't fuck her up in the Arlong arc… she's justified in being cheeky until then. But if she goes Captain Marvel on Arlong, monologuing about patriarchy keeping women down, then I'm out no matter how great the rest of the show is. It's an incredibly important arc for them to not fuck up. All of the East Blue arcs are because they establish the Straw Hat crew members. But this one is particularly emotional and delicate, and probably the most memorable one. They aren't allowed to fuck this one up no matter what.
Oh yeah, absolutely. Remember she tied Luffy up and handed him right to Buggy as "her boss" once she found out he was also a pirate. Sure, she saved him when Buggy was gonna blow him sky high but that's just because she didn't want to be like those pirates. She'll probably start off as standoffish and then slowly be won over by Luffy and crew. I can't wait!
I love the idea of "calling you finishing moves is cool" gag. I really hope they do it because I can see how perfect a team dynamic gag it could be, as well as a good way to have such a culturally different thing be easier to accept.
I know it didn't happen in the anime/manga, but after how this trailer ends, I really want Mihawk to call out a named attack when he wounds Zoro. Zoro gets this "you've be gotta be kidding me" look as he goes down. Then at Arlong Park all of a sudden he's all "onigiri" this and "dragon twister" that, and Luffy notices, gets a big grin, and Zoro's like "Not. One. Word."
I'm very happy that this trailer seemed to be all about the building of the crew. That's a good sign to me because that's really what East Blue really is all about. It's the origin story of the Straw Hat pirates.
Two notes: the pirate in Baratie is "Crescent-Moon" Gally who is the villain of the first version of Romance Dawn and who has made several appearances in the anime and manga and alongside Garp you can see his right hand man Bogard.
Aye good call on Gally man, and I’m super suprised I haven’t seen more people talking about how Garp is clearly on the ship. I can’t exactly see bogard but I’m sold
Btw the Zoro's opponent in that scene could very likely be Mr. 7. Which leads me to my favourite thing about the OPLA, we could get alot of scenes that we are introduced to later on, like Shanks getting the Gomu no Mi from Who's-Who or even a glimpse of Mihawk vs Shanks.
Yeah having full context of everything in the manga is part of what’ll make this a must watch for me, hopefully they’ll do a lot of kinda natural hints and background details and shit
@@JToaster That way of thinking is why I’m so sure after the series is over they will make One Piece:Retold. It would be a filler free, recontextualized, modernly paced, beautifully animated series. You could even put in the cover story’s or a short scene of the artwork in clips at the end of the show like Clover Clips in Back Clover.
@@florianhamon9530 This is the previous Mr. 7 that Zoro killed because he was trying to recruit him for Baroque Works. This was only mentioned in the anime/manga, and will now be shown in live action.
For the longest time I couldn’t watch this channel bc i was like why are the videos so long?? 😭 but then i started out of nowhere and now i watch them daily before bed, they’re very comforting honestly.. doesn’t seem like im gonna be running out of videos anytime soon lol
And did you notice that Luffy's different shirts are inspired by clothing he has worn in color spreads?! I am VERY happy with their attention to detail!
The thing from the trailer that gets me hype is something subtle and played as a joke, the yelling attack names joke. What if when each fully trusts Luffy, they will shout the name of their attacks because it makes Luffy happy.
many seem to forget the fact that across many notorious figures Luffy faced, criminal masterminds, Top jail warden in the world, top assasin with claws, someone with God complex and actually having the ability and capabilities of talking the talk and walking the walk, admirals, someone's entire niche is cutting things with strings and also a criminal mastermind, Mihawk, giants, the strongest creatures in the entire world, and none of them, none, managed to damage the strawhat, only the yonko himself Buggy did, it's actually insane we had two yonkos fight so early on in the series. Adding on, it's crazy that the strawhat is still safe, with Roger, shanks, and Luffy and Oda knows who wore the strawhat before Roger, and the damn hat still in one piece, swords and ships got destroyed and the hat seen way more fights still safe.
I appreciate your perspective on Luffy. One of my biggest issues with this trailer was his characterization. I’m still not sold, but I know it's hard to translate Luffy into live-action. Not just his rubber ability but his personality as well.
Yeah, I feel like Luffy's shonen-ness is going to be toned down a lot, probably just because of different mediums and whatnot. This might be the first official case of "Smart Luffy" lmao
the lines is what i’m doubtful the most now, idk I don’t like how these jokes are being told or what the punchline is. It feels “netflixy” yknow. Generic, and lazy.
It would be so funny if in the dialog of the series, everyone looks at Usopp and sees and acknowledge that he has a long nose, sort of like a running gag reference to the source material, even though the audience sees a perfectly normal nose😄
Honestly this was the first anime live action trailer where I’ve seen people be optimistic more than down right hating it. Pretty impressive. It looks goofy af to me 😂 but I’m still hopeful that it can be entertaining at least. I do hope you do a review for each episode when it releases
The fact there is not the official names of the fruit moves sucks . Like gum gum or gomu gomu Like i needed to hear bara bara not chop chop or gura gura over quake, only real gripe outside luffys accent
Yeah, imo if you're going for a live action go all the way into adaptation mode. Like green hair isn't that weird in the world of anime, but irl it's unnatural and so looks weird. So it'd be better imo to use someone with black hair. And instead of orange hair for Nami maybe go with a redhead. Etc. But it's one piece and it should be a little goofy. Lufffy's power seems kinda goofy if you think about it realistically just by itself (and it makes sense with what his power is, after all). But one piece in general doesn't take itself too seriously which is a major strength it has imo
I don’t think the character that zoro is fighting isn’t a member of Buggy’s crew. If you’ve seen some of the script leaks, there is a scene in the first episode that has Zoro fighting the Baroque Works agent who tries to recruit him
What I am curious about is in the CGI department: Captain Smoker. A guy that can turn into Smoke will be daunting to see, but I have faith in them after seeing this.
The clothing choices is great for Luffy and the potential of all their outfits is insane, like some people actually forget the DRIP they have in the movies lol.
I agree with you on the whole "Not a Crew thing" because I find one of the hardest things to achieve in these Live adaptations for Anime's is the deep bonds that are developed between characters that usually takes place over years of time in our world. Avatar the Last Airbender was the perfect example of this, because the Live Action movie was so bad, but it was almost disgusting how fast they went from meeting each other -> 3 min montage of them traveling different places -> best friends for life. Like what? so yeah I agree, it seems like the "vibe" will be about them all coming together as a crew, and that will develop over the course of the show
Avatar was soo good. Feel like they made Aang a bit too young for this netflix version. Maybe because of how aging in season production will work if its popular.
The only thing that feels a little off is the voices, but we can’t be expecting the same Luffy we all know and it will just take some time to get used to.
I mean we all are use to listening to an old lady voicing Luffy for like 20 years so yeah it's gonna be different. Personally it's not really the voice tone for me but the dialogue and accent of luffys that is a bit off.
agree and it is 100% because it's were so used to their voices be it english or Japanese for literal decades now so it feels a little weird hearing someone else in the roles
The spot on the top was added for the series, its a lighthouse. As yes the restaurant ship is meant to be out in the ocean and the lighthouse is to help people find it. It's hard to tell from the scenes showed if the Baratie is moored somewhere or if the scene is actually out at sea and the Merry and other ships are basically docked at the ship.
I personally think that when it comes to the night time shot of Gum Gum Pistol the way his hand looks makes sense because of him having the characteristics of rubber it comes across a little more that when he stretches his fist and arm are made out of rubber. It might not be 100% accurate to the source but I think it works
Seeing how we are not going to see character thought bubbles, Buggy being played straight is the right way to do him in the first season, especially since he really will not return until season 5 or 6 if the show does well, at which point you can definitely transfer him into the comedy character we know him to be. Now the only thing I hope occurs in episode one (hopefully called "Romance Dawn") is that we hear Bink's Sake being played in the background of Makino's Party Bar. The lyrics don't need to be sung, but hearing it being played on a piano would be great.
I think Luffy's stretching will look better if it's faster and has more combo attacks. For example, if they just do a stretching punch and that's it, it looks kinda lame with the wind up and everything, but if he immediately follows up with a whip to attack another fodder it would make the scene much more dynamic and harder for your brain to stop and analyse what's going on (therefore harder to think it looks bad or lame). All in all I think everything looks great, the Sea King CGI is better than anyone could've imagined, the way they went about it makes it have just enough facial expressions that you'll be able to see it getting scared by Shanks. My favorite scene is from Taz Skylar about to jump in the water to save Luffy in Arlong Park (the background has green scenery so I don't think that's when he jumps to save him in Baratie), you can really see the resolve of a man knowing he'll have to confront a fishman underwater.
Can we all be honest with ourselves though - even in the manga or anime, Luffy's stretching never really looked 'cool'. It was always a bit creepy, a bit weird and a bit goofy. Which is what Oda intended. So, this fits. It fits fine. XDD (Not to say his forms don't have coolness, but early game Luffy stretching always looks weird and silly. Because it is. XD )
@@7thlittleleopard7 I definitely agree, but if this is meant to capture an audience used to Hollywood blockbusters then it can’t be like that. Just like how many people nowadays have trouble getting into the first episodes of One Piece, because the shounen animation nowadays is so much better and more dynamic people get bored with the early Luffy fights. But yeah, it can’t be exaggerated too much either otherwise they wouldn’t be able to upgrade his speed with gear second (if the show ever reaches that point)
Shells Town looks like it was shot in Italy. Those houses built on the cliff side remind me of the Amalfi Coast, and that huge banner of Captain Morgan is perfect, as he basically ran the town like a dictator. The Baratie looks like something out of a pirate theme park, which somehow makes it more epic than the original. Buggy looks like the Joker cosplaying as Buggy, which is fitting for a clown pirate. I also like the crew dynamic. They may find Luffy weird at first, but he'll win them over eventually.
There has already been a lot of comments I’ve been seeing regarding the teaser. Most are feeling hopeful, some are feeling doubtful and some are just in the middle. I also have my own mix feelings about it (they are mostly positive), but I would still watch it solely because of the dedication and passion that the cast and production team put into this series. Recently they posted a clip of the cast reacting to the teaser for the first time. And Luffy’s actor, Inaki Godoy, was crying throughout. Emily Rudd who’s playing Nami almost cried during the live Tudum event! To me it shows me how they put in so much effort to work on a massive project that is One Piece. And I’m very sure they know how much expectations are put on them by not only from the fans but as well as Oda himself. It’s why for me I love this cast dearly. Their friendship is also very apparent to me which is just great for the Straw Hats. That photo of them huddled together before they went on stage filled me with so much joy. Sending much love to the cast and crew! And I can’t wait for August 31.
That tension scene was perfect, at first I actually thought that happens in the manga, Luffy trying to act as a serious leader in an obviously goofy manner with the crew and getting shut off immediately is exactly the kind of stuff you would expect from the Strawhats.
@conormurphy4328 it wasn't some unspoken tension Ifso that would be out of character it was them actively screaming at each other and yet he was like I'm sensing some tension like he had just barely noticed it I think it works vary well
The One Piece live action trailer actually have given me faith in future live action projects Let's hope that this doesn't end up like DB Evolution, Death Note or Cowboy Bebop
an awesome detail i noticed is that all the shirts we see luffy wear in the teaser aren’t just arbitrarily picked out by the costume department, they’re all actual shirts that oda has drawn luffy in!
omg THANK YOU for the comment on Buggy picking his aesthetics in order to scare people you're the first person I saw who actually made the connection and I appreciate you for it
I liked what I saw personally from Buggy D. Clown, Luffy's gum gum powers, Zoro's action scene's and the Sea King looked 👌 along with Shanks plus the costume/production designer's did great and the humor mixed in with the crew interactions was good to me
I think them playing into the naming finishing moves thing with zoro at the start, will help with how a lot of zoro's moves are named after sushi and food. So him not having a great idea for it, except his favorite foods as a kid, makes sense to me for his character a lot to be honest.
Tbh I actually had a huge smile on my face the whole time. I think this is charming and Oda is a perfectionist so I believe in him! I know it will never be the 1:1 so I’ll take what I can get! I started one piece when I was nine years old so I feel a bit sentimental ❤️
@@pablocamargo8744 Oda specifically gave the green light to this so he CAN have input while he's alive. The difference between the OP live action and other anime live actions is the fact that the original creator for those other live actions have very little involvement meanwhile Oda is very much involved in the writing and cast approval.
I actually really liked this trailer. I went with some small expectations but this trailer really did well. The interactions were amusing too. This seems to be a better live action then some others I have seen.
I am completely fine with it being its own thing while keeping true to the feeling you get when reading One Piece. It does not have to be an exact copy of the manga, there is anime for that. A live action adaptation does not mean animated sequences are not good enough, it means there are opportunities to give fans a new experience. I hope they adapt information form SBS volumes. I think people forget that Buggy was menacing in his first appearance with moments of goofiness.
Luffy says all the best fighters yell out their finishing moves. As they start fighting stronger opponents I want it to turn out to be true in-universe much to Zoro's horror lol 😅
So I just watched the trailer and I have to say...my expectations have risen. It actually looks decent. I still dont really think they should do this sort of thing, but it could work. I do expect some changes to have been made to the tone and characterization, purely because of the change in medium, but thats OK. An adaptation is an adaptation, things HAVE to change in the translation. So long as it retains its heart and soul, thats whats more important. It is worth pointing out that, for as funny as Buggy is, he is also RUTHLESS. He blew up an entire town in his first introduction and was perfectly willing to slice Nami to pieces for betraying him. Buggy IS a murder clown, the only reason we dont see him like that is because of his goofy design and the fact that hes going up against people who are just so much more dangerous than he is.
I believe that the enemy Zoro was fighting in red is the previous Mr.7 that was stated to have fought with him in the SBS, & because just not too long ago he was announced to have benn casted
See, the thing is when it comes to Buggy - they're presenting him as scary murder clown at the start, which is great. Perfect even! And then, when he starts to become more of a goofball, they can just tone the make up down a little. It's really that simple and honestly, pretty ingenious. That way he can be BOTH. Easily! Because it's make-up it doesn't take much to tame it down, make it a little goofier, and suddenly we have our charismatic Yonkou clown!
I think Oda and the Netflix team delivered. I haven’t really ever liked live actions but I think this is beautiful and the cgi with Luffy’s ability looked very balanced. I’m very excited to see this in a few months even if it flops (which I doubt it will)
@@Strawhat78well not prematurely. The acting looks like they grabbed random HS drama kids and sound about the same. But the normal issues with cgi don't look to be showing and it doesn't all look fake while trying to be real. I doubt I'll like it but gonna watch and judge later
People are already shitting on it but when I saw it I was amazed and I'm looking forward to it sm. Oda is in on this and I'm sure he'll do his best to keep the spirit of OP while LA! That Gum Gum Pistol I loved it😭
10:14 That's the original Mr. 7 that tried to recruit Zoro before he met Luffy. It's never shown in the manga, but Zoro talks about it in Alabasta, when he discloses he knows about Baroque Works
While there are some things that I do not like, I do see a lot of love and care for the original material being put into this. I am looking forward to it, which is perhaps the first time that I could say that for a life action adaptation of anything.
I like to think that in-universe Zoro's hair isn't naturally green, he's just meticulous about touching up his roots. I could even see him working it into his swordsman philosophy or something like that.
One thing to remember with Luffy's CGI is that Luffy's body ACTUALLY becomes rubber when it stretches. It's not human skin. So if it looks like rubber texture verses skin, that isn't off.
The different shirts luffy is wearing seem to be from outfits he has worn in the color spreads that Oda has done, I checked a couple of them against the book and they are spot on so it seems they hopped into the color spreads for additional clothing ideas, which is a sweet touch.
The show is going to show Zoro killing the former Mr. 7 when Baroque Works tried to recruit him, so maybe that is who he is fighting? Also that Buggy shot was most likely from early in the Orange Town arc meaning he is still treated as a threat.
Jokes for the Bingo card: We're not a crew, we're not friends >>> last episode >>> WE ARE! Sanji actually thinks Zoro has moss growing on his head Zoro flashes back to training in Kendo (which requires calling hits) The reveal of John Giant's height (15ft?)
I'm not sure if Inaki touching the Merry is a real scene of the series or if someone simply filmed him going to the Merry during the set building phase - and all we see in the background are the real workers building further ship sets. We have to remember that it's a teaser trailer so not all scenes have to be in the final product.
You guys REALLY don't understand how movies/TV shows are made and it shows. It's fine 🤷 cope all you want, but it is final product. There's literally nothing else they can do before the release to "fix" any CGI, no time to reshoot scenes that don't work, etc. Etc. You guys are cute though. Dumb hopefuls, but cute.
Honestly I think it looks good I'm cautiously optimistic about it due to Oda being extremely close with working on this. As well as the main writer showing up on y'all reverie meeting years back and it shows that he a true fan of this. I'm optimistic towards this now I want to see arlong and the fishmen.
Considering the labor of love behind the casting, set designs, and close involvement with Oda, we should take a grain of salt without going to an immediate hatred against this production. What we see in anime/manga means that we mere humans CANNOT perform the insane feats that such characters perform in imagination. But I’m very much looking forward to see this series in entirety before making judgment calls.
The actor for Luffy has a very hard role to play as Luffy's carefree / simple-minded personality isn't easy to portray and unfortunately it isn't something you can teach. You either have it or you don't. Johnny Depp playing Jack Sparrow is a perfect example of how to play the fool and still do justice by the character. The guy playing Luffy is using the comedy effect of Luis Guzman who often plays the fool in his roles but it just isn't translating well to Luffy's character if you know him from the anime or manga.
The one thing that I don't think they'll truly be able to nail is the expressiveness of the characters, which to me plays a big role in what makes One Piece unique.
@@jackroberts2704 I think he is talking about stuff like how luffy has a massive smile that is like one of his signature things and also how when some characters are shocked and surprised they make this super crazy face kinda like the iconic eneru shocked face, I think he is talking about stuff like that which they could do with cgi I suppose but it would probably look awful lol
That's not really a one piece thing. It's just an anime thing with the cartoons face stretching. Even "serious anime" like bleach do it from time to time.
It looks great so far! Most of the criticism seems like the odd nitpicking but the tone, cast, set, and even CG look good. I love how creepy and goofy Buggy looks too.
This is one of the rare times where im happy they arent copypasta'ing the manga or anime but are trying to find the balance of a real world setting of a goofy pirate manga, theres gonna be cringe dialouge as its inevitable but as long as they capture the essence or spirit of one piece i believe it will succeed, and judging by the overall reaction of ppl being whelmed(not overwhelmed nor underwhelmed) thats a good sign of a mild success when considering the live action genre
I get that some things can't really work for live-action, but I'm really gonna miss stuff that is integral to the characters. Like most of the comedy coming from Kaku in Water 7 (if this series ever gets that far) is him being compared to Ussop. Same goes for stuff with Sanji's eyebrow and Duval/his family way later... Kinda would be like Nami not having the Tattoo, at least to me.
They can still do those things. They have cast a guy who looks like Usopp to play Kaku. They can make Duval have Sanji's hair and flirty demeanour. It's not going to be an issue, at least not as much as people think. There's ways around these minor plot points and ways to set them up to still work without nose and eyebrow.
@Lukas Emmel That’s one of the ways live adaptations of anime can fail, though: they try to keep things exactly like the manga/anime when, in reality, if we saw an anime character in the world, he would look like a freak of nature. I would bet money that they tried both the nose and the eyebrows and made the wise judgment call that they just look too off-putting in real life.
People seem to forget the Cowboy Bebop trailer. It looked good enough but the show turned out to be trash. If people think that Netflix will make a decent live action adaptation, then I got a bridge to sell.
some people doesnt want the look ..but for me it will look like a "cosplay" if they really made a copy out of their costume..this is good actually because oda and mackenyu is their ..and if your real fun of onepiece you will support this...because for me its really good
Chopper can actually be done pretty easily. Make him a small human with antlers similar to the show “sweet tooth” I mean he already ate the human human fruit
I’ve been thinking about this too, you could do a puppet like grogu for his first appearance and then when he joins the crew move his post time skip self acceptance to there and just have him be in heavy point full time
Agree, but i bet many people would really hate it. Even a small detail change like usopp's nose and sanji's eyebrows make certain people rage. Besides, the strawhats (especially luffy) often make a joke about having chopper as 'last resort food' and having to say that to a human is....lol.
Seeing how 50% of the community is positive about this it will be even funnier to see their "hopes and dreams" crushed when the full thing gets released. Wonder if it's gonna be cancelled even faster than cowboy bebop. Only a completely naive sweet summer child that was born only yesterday could think that this can turn out to be good (or they are just dub watchers, because their standards are already that low so they can't see what's wrong with it). Judging by the trailer it's even worse than I've imagined. Can't wait for the release so I could die from cringe and say "I told you so".
My issue with Sanji not having the eyebrows is that it feels like they are getting rid of an important part of him. It has to do with his backstory with his family and its because of this that both Zoro and Sanji both start their insulting each other bit which leads to them always fighting one another. Quick note as well when Luffy meets Zoro he is not wearing his bandana like he did in the manga nor does he throughout the trailer which means its probable that Zoro will never wear it.
They can absolutely fix that easily - just have his eyebrows go curly when he accesses that power. Bang, Done. Fixed. Not a big deal. What would be a big deal is them having to apply all the makeup all the time to fix his eyebrows when they're going to be around water and sweat and such so often. It's better to just not in this case, since he's main cast, going to be on screen a lot and have to worry about all kinds of liquid (sweating from fighting, cooking, having to dive in water to fetch Luffy and fight at times - Arlong Park, for example).
[Spoiler alert] That could easily be 'changed', his parents have a normal eyebrow and he's the most 'human' amongst his siblings so you can interpret that. The problem should be his siblings who are the perfect genetically modified human result, something certainly has to change aside from their power, well they have colorful unnatural hair already but other characters also have that. Oh well they probably will make something different in the later run idk, that's still a looooong way to go lol
@@yoongisugaagustd7418 But it goes against who he is, that's just wiping out an important part of his backstory. There are many talented Cosplayers who are able to do the eyebrows perfectly and this just comes off as lazy
I love the over the top joyful faciall expressions of Ruffy in this trailer. That is really crucial to a true portrayal and the actor absolutely nailed that!
My comment is that, they seems to have those one liner self aware joke, very similar to the mcu style, like the "shout the name of the attacks" "sensing some tension between crews" which kinda also very out of charac5er for luffy
@@ssheeessh at the very start of the show honestly kind of since nami was just pretending to go along with it and zoro didn't seem like he was completely sure about all of it untill the mihawk fight
@@sigma723 There's literally a short of nami seeing Zoro for the first time on YT, and she's in awe at the dude Zoro, no way I'm hell would he say something like that. Such corny writing, as OP said it's just sooo MCU. There's some serious cope in this video and I can't force optimism about this adaptation anymore. I tried for over a year but nah my gut was right.
Honestly, Zoro IS the type of character that would hate calling out their attacks and he IS a no nonsense “let’s get this shit done and over with” type of character. So the comment he made at the end about not calling out the attacks is totally in character. The goofy rough cartoonish looking CG actually works because this is One Piece, it’s supposed to look over the top and cartoonish and rough. Honestly, when I saw this trailer, it gave me goosebumps. The showrunners themselves are avid fans of the source material, and boy can you tell. The love for the source material is clearly pouring out of every frame and shit. The flare that Netflix uses amongst every anime adaptation that they have ever done actually works here. I have to say, the series and teaser trailer feel like a throwback to those 80’s/90’s action adventure type movies like Hook, ET, The Goonies, Labryinth, and The Princess Bride. I love that.
I love the fact that is isn’t a 1:1 Yeah the music is so awesome I am happy that you liked it Tekking🧡Also the fact that they put Mr.7 is cool + Building Going Merry is better because ussop will be more emotional about it
@@vgmaster02 I think it was like a year ago or something that they were saying that the script of episode 1 was leaked and it also had Zoro fighting against mr. 7 + there was a leaked casting for an actor that supposedly he was playing mr. 7 so yeah probably it is him.
29:44 I can just see this moment setting up the end of the running gag in the cheesiest and best way. As Luffy asks the rest of the cast if they're a crew now, the all respond with a resplendent "We Are!" before we hear the Luffy cheer in the trailer and it cuts to the credits alongside an english rendition of OP1
14:00 Thank you Tekking for explaining this, as your words resonate to a lot of fans but there is always those people that will complain about the smallest things.
I think that's fair, but also I personally find these types of small details to be the things that help build trust with the audience, like showing they care enough to include these things. Not to suggest that I don't think the live-action crew cares, just my thoughts on small details like that.
5:19 About Luffy's outfit : in the manga he wears the same one until Enies Lobby.
And the fun fact here : all outfits worn by the live action Luffy in this trailer are the real life adaptations of those drawn by Oda on the color spreads. So in a weird way this is canon.

Buggy is going to steal the show.
@@med2904 She's really cold at first she doesn't care much about luffy until Arlong park so let's hope that's what happens
Would be funny if Zoro joined and didn't consider her part of the crew yet hence the remark
That dialogue was 100% pre Arlong it looked like during Buggy's arc
One. Word."
I think the "not a crew" is specifically about Nami not wanting to join at the beginning

Apparently the guy Zoro is fighting is the former Mr. 7 who wanted him to join Baroque Works. His design was roughly drawn by Oda in an SBS.
if that's true it could be an early set up for the alabasta arc
Two notes: the pirate in Baratie is "Crescent-Moon" Gally who is the villain of the first version of Romance Dawn and who has made several appearances in the anime and manga and alongside Garp you can see his right hand man Bogard.

Amazing! Thanks for the info! It makes so much sense and just makes is so much better
I personally think that when it comes to the night time shot of Gum Gum Pistol the way his hand looks makes sense because of him having the characteristics of rubber it comes across a little more that when he stretches his fist and arm are made out of rubber. It might not be 100% accurate to the source but I think it works
Yeah, it has a bit of uncanny valley, BUT i don't think it's a bad thing per se, due to how the devil fruits are portrayed in the east blue
That,"Heaven Shaking Sky Canon" caught me off-guard LMAO

Luffy did stretch in real time not just like winding up. I think it was during the fight scene with the guards in shells town.
That shot is reminiscent to how he punched Alvida.
Can we all be honest with ourselves though - even in the manga or anime, Luffy's stretching never really looked 'cool'. It was always a bit creepy, a bit weird and a bit goofy. Which is what Oda intended. So, this fits. It fits fine. XDD
(Not to say his forms don't have coolness, but early game Luffy stretching always looks weird and silly.
They may find Luffy weird at first, but he'll win them over eventually.
most of the season was filmed on location in South Africa but there was filming in the Canary Islands too
There has already been a lot of comments I’ve been seeing regarding the teaser.
Same feelings.
Get ready for immense disappointment and a lot of "I told you so".
Respect the hard work but if its mid its mid...
Believing anything you see an actor do on camera is genuine is a mistake.
That tension scene was perfect, at first I actually thought that happens in the manga, Luffy trying to act as a serious leader in an obviously goofy manner with the crew and getting shut off immediately is exactly the kind of stuff you would expect from the Strawhats.
Except Luffy picking up on emotional tension between crew members is absolutely something he wouldn’t do. It’s so out of character
@conormurphy4328 it wasn't some unspoken tension Ifso that would be out of character it was them actively screaming at each other and yet he was like I'm sensing some tension like he had just barely noticed it I think it works vary well
The One Piece live action trailer actually have given me faith in future live action projects
Let's hope that this doesn't end up like DB Evolution, Death Note or Cowboy Bebop
If I recall, Netflix wasn't supposed to release anything that Oda didn't approve of himself. Netflix also can't afford to fuck this property up.
an awesome detail i noticed is that all the shirts we see luffy wear in the teaser aren’t just arbitrarily picked out by the costume department, they’re all actual shirts that oda has drawn luffy in!

The Buggy clip was simply fantastic
The head canon of them warming up to Luffy and calling out their attack names too is my favourite! I LOVE IT!!
I think them playing into the naming finishing moves thing with zoro at the start, will help with how a lot of zoro's moves are named after sushi and food. So him not having a great idea for it, except his favorite foods as a kid, makes sense to me for his character a lot to be honest.

I feel the same! Everyone hopes their expectations will come true. Feel like people that react really negatively to this trailer are way to nitpicky
Buggy IS a murder clown, the only reason we dont see him like that is because of his goofy design and the fact that hes going up against people who are just so much more dangerous than he is.
to me off the trailer the humour feels more realistic and grounded and the tone feels a little more serious which I'm all for given it's a live action

I've been waiting for your take on the teaser the whole day Tekking😍
Plus it looks like for the "We're not a crew" scene it is actually before Nami joins the crew, this is before Syrup village more than likely.
While there are some things that I do not like, I do see a lot of love and care for the original material being put into this. I am looking forward to it, which is perhaps the first time that I could say that for a life action adaptation of anything.
Buggy being scary makes sense - at this point of the story, Buggy was genuinely menacing. It took time to reveal how goofy he really is.
I love Tekking and his virtuous positivity. Really seems like most of the major OP youtubers are feeling it. Morj will probably hate it though😂
When Tekking was talking about naval battles, all I could think of was "This was how pirates hunted in ancient times".
I hope that if the live action makes it to Skypeia, they cast Eminem as Enel.

@@DandyAndy23shut up lmaooo
I could totally see the guy playing Luffy pushing a zombie back in a grave, and that’s all I need
It's a show though so it might actually be easier to show expression in a live-action medium wouldn't you think?
@@jackroberts2704 I think he is talking about stuff like how luffy has a massive smile that is like one of his signature things and also how when some characters are shocked and surprised they make this super crazy face kinda like the iconic eneru shocked face, I think he is talking about stuff like that which they could do with cgi I suppose but it would probably look awful lol
That's not really a one piece thing. It's just an anime thing with the cartoons face stretching. Even "serious anime" like bleach do it from time to time.
Well not all animated show all over the top emotions can be translated to live action that easily tho
Im not even surprised Tekking made an almost hour video from a minute and some change worth of content🙄😂 I'd be shocked of he didn't
It looks great so far! Most of the criticism seems like the odd nitpicking but the tone, cast, set, and even CG look good. I love how creepy and goofy Buggy looks too.
which doesn't surprise me. Been hearing those same criticisms levelled at OG One Piece for years tbh
Those are trivial things, really.
And it's Netflix, if by a miracle it's liked, season 2 will be the change
My issue with Sanji not having the eyebrows is that it feels like they are getting rid of an important part of him. It has to do with his backstory with his family and its because of this that both Zoro and Sanji both start their insulting each other bit which leads to them always fighting one another. Quick note as well when Luffy meets Zoro he is not wearing his bandana like he did in the manga nor does he throughout the trailer which means its probable that Zoro will never wear it.
He's literally wearing the bandana in multiple scenes in the trailer, what're you talking about
They can absolutely fix that easily - just have his eyebrows go curly when he accesses that power. Bang, Done.
@@7thlittleleopard7 yes you are correct
my bad he does do it throughout the trailer. I am wrong on this
[Spoiler alert]
That could easily be 'changed', his parents have a normal eyebrow and he's the most 'human' amongst his siblings so you can interpret that.
Matt is in Netflix's back pocket.
I love the over the top joyful faciall expressions of Ruffy in this trailer. That is really crucial to a true portrayal and the actor absolutely nailed that!
I'm sorry Ruffy? What translation did you have?
@@transyuri4534In many translations that aren’t the English one. For instance, German.

I appreciate that for the characters' multiple attires, they are using Oda's designs from different covers and the like : D
I am so excited to watch it I hope that it will receive lots of love because ODA deserves it. Actually his masterPIECE deserves it ❤
2 seconds appearance of shanks is the most accurate thing in this live action
My comment is that, they seems to have those one liner self aware joke, very similar to the mcu style, like the "shout the name of the attacks" "sensing some tension between crews" which kinda also very out of charac5er for luffy
Actually, I can kind of see Luffy and Zoro arguing about whether or not they should call out their attacks.
@@metallord6960 Can you see ANY strawhats yelling "WE'RE NOT A CREW"?
@@ssheeessh at the very start of the show honestly kind of since nami was just pretending to go along with it and zoro didn't seem like he was completely sure about all of it untill the mihawk fight
@@sigma723 There's literally a short of nami seeing Zoro for the first time on YT, and she's in awe at the dude
Zoro, no way I'm hell would he say something like that.
Such corny writing, as OP said it's just sooo MCU.
There's some serious cope in this video and I can't force optimism about this adaptation anymore. I tried for over a year but nah my gut was right.
@@ssheeessh Before Arlong Park? Yes, especially since Nami DOESN'T think she's part of the crew at that time.
I love the fact that is isn’t a 1:1 Yeah the music is so awesome I am happy that you liked it Tekking🧡Also the fact that they put Mr.7 is cool
+ Building Going Merry is better because ussop will be more emotional about it
Wait, is THAT the red-suited guy Zoro's fighting in the trailer?? That's Mr.7??
@@vgmaster02 I think it was like a year ago or something that they were saying that the script of episode 1 was leaked and it also had Zoro fighting against mr. 7 + there was a leaked casting for an actor that supposedly he was playing mr. 7 so yeah probably it is him.
@@Aourora No, they can't tease Baroque Works like that. Don't tease a potential season 2 with Vivi like that, Netflix. We want our Vivi! XD

I can just see this moment setting up the end of the running gag in the cheesiest and best way.
@@tiger.2342 Just by looking at this short trailer i can tell that they cared about small details.
