Thanks Ernie, very instructive and encouraging, like you long time licence holder (1965) need to get to grips with cw, always struggled due to dyslexia. HNY
Oh man! Ernie you might not know how helpful this video was to me. I just got the rig delivered today. I glanced at the tiny font on the paper manual and it's hard on these 74 year old eyes. lol I found an online manual, but I have less patience every dayfor reading manuals (what else is new for old dudes?) lol so I very much apperciate the effort and time you spent showing and telling the CW functions on this rig. I love CW, but I got this rig mainly for learning the digital modes in case of some power emergency and as a suppliment to my TS440. I'll learn the digital stuff, but I know I'll use the G90 on CW, so your explanations helped demystify the CW part of the rig. Thank you so much for sharing. I'll look through your other videos hoping to find the same sort of helpful tips for other modes on the G90. Thanks again and 73.
The audio was fine. One comment is that it was hard to see what button you were pressing to cycle through the settings. Also, I take it that it the (sidetone?) frequency isn't adjustable?
Since I'm just memorizing, I decided to start off with 20wpm. Why learn at a slower speed and then have to retrain your brain all over a second time??? You did an excellent job on this, now do the rest of the controls! 😊
I have to wait until my G90 comes back from being out on loan to a new Ham. One of the cornerstones of my club, the DVRA, is helping newcomers with equipment and training. The G90 is on loan for 6 months to a very smart 13-year old who is a new General. I do look forward to getting back to the radio.
I've seen that with some rigs, it will put into memory CQ CQ CQ (etc), and play it back as a broadcast, so the operator doesn't have to manually do it it time. Can the G-90 accomplish this, and if so, how? Many thanks! 73 de N4ANO
Hi Ernie, this is good info to me as I just got one (G90) as well. Going through your videos, back tracking as you would call it. Question, on the bottom of the rainbow after you started to do some changes, those letters appeared, how do I get rid of it again?
Using FLRig, I am able to key the rig in CW, but no power goes out. I have been unable to get power out, often no keying at all, with programs such as CW Type, etc. Do you by chance have any settings that will allow keying with FLRig, etc?
Why am I getting a constant tone immediately when I plug my straight key into my radio? I followed every step that you explained, but when I plug my key into the back of my G90, I'm getting a constant 'beep' until I unplug it.
@@ernietech-101 I figured it out. My Straight Key came with a 3.5mm Mono plug and it needs a Stereo plug. With the Mono plug it constantly emits a CW tone. I need to rewire it.
Thanks! when QSK is off can you safely practice without an antenna attached since you aren't transmitting? or it best just too always have one attached to not fry the radio? Thanks
Excellent post! This was a clear explanation and very helpful!
Once again a great tutorial for those of us considering the G90. Much appreciated
Glad it's helpful 🙂

Thanks Ernie, I found that very informative. It comes at a good time for me as I also have a G-90 and am trying to learn more. Cheers ZL2VTH

My G90 is out on loan right now so I can't check into this for you. Sorry

I think you can change keyer volume by pressing the “funct” key and then “key”
I'll give it a try
And change the side tone frequency as well.
Your audio sounds fine! Also, Xiegu is pronounced she-eh gu. There's no zee sound in Chinese.
And still I get it wrong. Next time. Thanks!
Are you using a dummy load?
So where is the link to the paddle?
