Thank you for posting this. I had originally tried to change my MAC address using the ifconfig method and it totally killed my connection until I restarted. This works so much better.
If your Mac address didn't change first you have to put your wifi or ethernet adapter down and then change the Mac address it definitely works and don't forget to up the adapters

You have to shutdown down your interface card before trying to change its mac address , not changing it directly , to do that type the following command *Ifconfig wlan0 down* *macchanger -a wlan0* or whatever your option is *ifconfig wlan0 up* Note : in my case my nic is named wlan0 , yours can be different To check it , type : *ifconfig | grep HWaddr* Hope this helped :D

Macchanger does not work anymore on Linux. You can change address but the same time you get disconnected from network. When you reconnect to network the original mac address comes back. The best option is to buy few USB wireless cards and use them as they are needed.
I should have written it does apply to Ubuntu 16.04. I tried some changes as others described on internet to that problem and those solutions did not work. Mac changer still works on Kali Linux. I think Ubuntu is going gradually to toilet as windows OS.
@@georgewashington90 Well Ubuntu was made to be more noob friendly to new Linux users. Kali Linux was purposely designed as pen testing OS. I think the reason why Ubuntu sometimes does not want to function correctly is probably because it's configurations weren't set correctly
Also to add on, when you state that macchanger does not work on Linux anymore, you're reffering to all Linux OS's which is incorrect. Each one is designed differently from each other (i.e. Kali and Ubuntu). Macchanger currently works for me using Kali Linux.

Command it shows an error.inteeface up or insuffient permission:device or resources busy
If it says insufficient permission then use sudo before the command for root privileges

If your device resource is busy, you need to do it with your wifi shutdown, i had that problem and fixed it
